MHA Demons Tale
Chapter 4: First Day Blues: Part 1
A/N: With the addition of the 3 characters Kira, Sean and Elliana being added to the story some characters will be removed. Lucky for all of you die hard fans this story focuses more on Class 1-B so we don't lose anyone from 1-A, as we feel they are all too important to the main story to remove from it (We being me and my girlfriend who's helping write this story). The following class 1-B students will be replaced in the following way.
Kira will replace Togaru Kamakiri
Sean will replace Nirengeki Shoda
Elliana will replace Pony Tsunotori
If this upsets you in any way we're sorry but this decision was made a long time ago when we planned this story and has been cemented for a long time. We are also English, so we spell some words differently. Please enjoy the chapter, leave a fave, a follow and a review.
Kira lay still in bed, his eyes still closed. He was terrified to open them, just in case everything had been a dream and he was back off to Fukuhara.
The world didn't share his pessimism, as his door was soon nudged open by his trusty Great Pyrenees companion, who began to lick his face to wake him up. "Morning, Hoshi," Kira grumbled, scratching the fluffy white dog on the head.
While he scratched Hoshi's head, he caught sight of his U.A. school uniform, hanging on the front of his wardrobe. Kira's eyes widened: it wasn't a dream, he really was off to U.A.!
"I'd best be moving. Thanks for waking me, boy," he said to the dog, giving him one last stroke before heaving himself out of bed.
After a few quick minutes in the bathroom, Kira quickly came back to his room and put his new uniform on. It was a little big on him, but Fey had told Kira when they bought it that he would grow into it in no time.
Once he looked in the mirror Kira felt, for lack of a better word, awkward. It felt like to him that the clothes he was wearing didn't really belong to him yet. He still looked very much like the Kira from Fukuhara, but he knew the uniform was the first of many steps in the right direction for him.
Once he was done he headed downstairs rather sheepishly to show his parents. The second he got down there, Kai gave him the biggest smile he'd seen in a good few years, while Fey looked as though she was going to burst into tears.
"Hey, that looks good on you," Kai complimented him, placing his spoon down in his bowl to gaze at his son. "That uniform hasn't changed from when we were there, has it, Fey?"
That seemed to snap Fey out of whatever trance she'd gone into when Kira entered the room, and she nodded. "You're right, Kai. It really hasn't," she agreed. "And now the next generation of heroes are wearing that same uniform."
She winced, and placed the remainder of her toast and jam down. "Excuse me, boys," she told the pair of them, pushing her plate away and leaving the table.
Kira flashed a glance at his father, who watched his wife leave the room with an unreadable expression on his face. "Dad, what's going on?" he whispered, concerned about his mother as he'd never seen her wince like that before, as though in pain.
"Your mom will be okay, don't worry about her kiddo. She's a strong woman. But enough about that, I bet you're so excited, aren't you?" Kai replied, smiling at his son again while Kira grabbed a plate of toast that had been left out for him.
Kira nodded, chomping on a slice of toast. It was a half-truth, because he was excited, excited to be finally leaving Fukuhara and Sasaki behind, with no chance of her following as he'd been very tight-lipped about the whole ordeal. But the other half of him was also incredibly nervous, because as a result of Sasaki's cruelty, he'd never had any friends and as such didn't know how to socialise. The only person he'd really socialised with was his mother's goddaughter, a girl he'd called his cousin, and he hadn't seen her for years. He wondered what she would have been like now, if he'd have continued to see her.
Kira shook his head quickly. He couldn't dwell on his estranged cousin, he doubted she ever lost sleep thinking about him anyway. He had more important things to worry about, like making sure he left on time. It wouldn't do well to be late on his first day, he thought as he finished up his toast and placed the plate back down on the table.
"Sorry about that, boys," Kira heard his mother's voice behind him. He turned to her, worried.
"What was that about, Mom?" he asked, putting his hand on her shoulder. "Are you sick?"
"No, no. I'm fine," Fey assured him, taking his hand on her shoulder and rubbing the back of it with her thumb. "I had to take some painkillers. Just something I deal with as a woman."
Kira wasn't sure why, but he could've sworn he saw his father's expression darken at those words, however at his mother's reassurance, he brushed it off. "Okay, if you say so," he shrugged. "I need to get going in a minute, or I'm gonna be late."
"Of course honey, we don't want to keep you. Can you at least give your poor mother a hug before you go?" Fey asked, holding her arms out for Kira.
Kira immediately obliged: despite being quite an independent boy, Kira's bond with his mother was certainly something special. They were an incredibly close pair, and Kira knew Sasaki's torment would've utterly broken her heart.
However, Kira realised too late that this was actually a clever ploy by his mother, because as soon as she hugged him he could feel her messing with his long black hair. By the time he managed to pull away, he realised she had put it in a low ponytail.
"Mom! Come on! I hate having my hair like this! I look like a dweeb with it in a ponytail!" he complained, but Fey just shook a finger in response.
"I gave you a choice, Kira. I said you either get a haircut OR you tie it back. Since you refused to choose, the choice will default to this unless you decide to get it cut," Fey replied, making her son groan.
He had hoped that by not choosing, that his mother would drop it and nothing would change hair wise, as he liked having it down so he could hide his eyes behind something when things were rough for him, but he couldn't argue that with his new circumstances, that might not be necessary. Also Fey was an incredibly stubborn woman, and if one argued with her then there was a very good chance they wouldn't come out on top, Kai having found that out the hard way many times.
"Oh, fine. But I don't like it," Kira told her firmly, picking his bag up. His heart started thudding, realising that his life was about to be vastly different from what it used to be.
"Don't focus on that, Kira," Kai chipped in, wheeling himself over to his son. He placed a hand on Kira's arm, causing the teen to look over at him. "Your mother and I hope you'll have a great first day. Have fun, son. Just remember, this is the start of an amazing new life for you."
"I am so proud of you right now," Fey added, wiping a tear from her face before giving Kira a quick kiss on the cheek.
Kira smiled. "Thank you, both of you. I'll try my best to have a good day," he told his parents, giving Hoshi a pet on the head before opening the front door.
However, just before he was about to leave, Kai stopped him with a hand on his shoulder, making Kira turn to face him, curious about what his old man had to say.
"Before you go Kira, I just want to tell you something," his dad said to him in a serious, but calm tone. Kira kneeled down so he'd be eye level with his dad, as he felt this was very important.
"Always remember this. If you see someone within your reach who you can help, you must. For that is what a hero does. I lived by these words everyday when I was a hero, and now I pass them onto you in the hopes you'll live up to them. Also, I hope you know every day I'm proud to call you my son," Kai told him, in the most heartfelt manner Kira had ever heard from him.
Kira just pulled his dad into a hug and nodded. "I will, Dad. I promise you," he told him before he stood up, wiping away the tears that were forming and finally making his way outside.
Kira breathed in the morning spring air as he began the now-familiar trek to U.A. As it turned out, they didn't live too far from the school, so when she had a morning free, Fey had taken him on the route that he was to take when he eventually started so he could memorise it.
All too soon, the tall building of U.A. loomed into sight. Kira's heart was still thudding in his chest, both out of nerves and excitement. He couldn't believe this was happening, that he was here outside U.A. High, about to pursue his long-term dream of becoming a hero.
Entering the building, Kira almost couldn't focus as he collected his schedule from the receptionist on the front desk. Glancing down, he saw that he had been placed in the Hero Course's Class 1-B. He'd heard from his parents that there were two classes in the Hero Course, Class A and Class B. Kai and Fey themselves had been in Class A, so he was at least thankful for that slight difference so he didn't feel as though he was completely copying his parents.
Finding his classroom easily enough, Kira slid the door open to find a handful of students already there, either sitting at their desks on their phones or having a leisurely chat in small groups. Kira noticed a young boy with dark skin and pure white hair sitting at a desk by himself scrolling through his phone, a girl with short silvery-grey hair covering her left eye and holding her arms up to her chest in a zombie-like state, and she was talking in a low voice to a girl with black hair in a shoulder-length bob who looked entirely unimpressed, and a boy with beige skin and beige hair who looked as though he had no lips who was sitting near the two girls, staring off into space. A couple of desks away from him sat a girl with wavy green hair and pointed teeth, who was watching a video on her phone. Kira caught sight of a pair of black headphones covering her ears, which explained the lack of noise from her video.
Kira's breath seemed to hitch the moment he opened his mouth to greet any of the students, as he remembered his anxiety about not knowing how to socialise. A couple of the students turned to look at whoever had entered. The boy with no lips nodded in greeting and the green haired girl grinned at him, showing even more of her shark-like teeth.
Kira chose to just sit at his assigned desk, cursing himself at not knowing what to do in reply to any of the other students' greetings. He lowered his head, hoping that nobody would approach him as he could feel the anxiety gripping him, causing him to break out in a sweat.
More students entered the classroom, but no one paid Kira any attention. Every time someone entered, Kira flicked his eyes over to the door, not lifting his head up. On one particular occasion, he was met with a strange sight: this student had incredibly long blond hair, possibly even longer than his which looked very feminine, but they wore trousers, whereas the girls wore skirts, meaning the student had to be a male. He had a loud voice, which was accompanied with an exotic sounding accent.
"Tokage, Honenuki! The pair of you got in!" the newcomer hollered, grabbing the hand of the boy with no lips and nodding at the girl with pointy teeth.
"Hey, Yamamoto! It's good to see you again, it's been a while since we hung out. Can't believe we're in the same class!" the girl, now known to be Tokage, replied with a smile.
"Morning, Yamamoto. Can you not yell so loud, please?" asked the boy, or Honenuki as he was now known to be.
"Oh, sorry," said Yamamoto. "Have you seen or heard from her yet? Because I haven't," he added to Tokage.
Tokage shook her head. "Nope, I haven't either. No idea what she's doing, planning a big entrance if I know her. Heck, I don't even know if she's going to be in this class," she shrugged. Yamamoto shrugged as well, nodding in agreement.
Tokage and Yamamoto began to chat about other things, Honenuki chipping in at times. Kira could easily surmise that they'd all met prior to starting U.A., especially Yamamoto and Tokage as she'd previously stated that they hung out before. Judging by their exchange about a girl, Kira guessed that there was one missing from their little group.
A little while later, the door slid open again, but everyone seemed to freeze at who stood in the doorway. A young girl, with bright, waist-length shocking pink hair parted to the right and buttery golden eyes accented by a tiny amount of purple glitter, had entered the classroom.
The boys, bar Kira, appeared to stare unblinkingly at the girl as she smiled and waved to the others, before she emitted a high pitched squeal of excitement when she spotted Tokage and Yamamoto, dashing over to the pair of them to catch them in a tight hug.
Kira couldn't believe it, he felt as though the world was playing a horrible trick on him and he didn't find it funny in the slightest. He knew EXACTLY who that newcomer was: she was Elliana Shiro, a teen idol known locally as Musutafu's Sweetheart, social media influencer, YapTube vlogger, daughter of the famed Rescue Shiros AND his mother's goddaughter. She was his estranged cousin, who he'd refused to see for approximately a decade at this point.
Kira and Elliana used to play together when they were young children, before the appearance of their Quirks. Everyone joked that they were inseparable, and Elliana coming over to play was one of the happiest times in Kira's life. He had so many fond memories of them from when they were children: he used to have a trampoline in the backyard which they would spend hours jumping on, they'd play with their hero toys in the living room, and she'd often show him tricks she had learned at her gymnastics class (she was an avid gymnast, he remembered that well). One of his favourite memories from that time was when Kai would pick the pair of them up and hold them in his arms, especially when they were tired.
After his Quirk developed and the torment from Sasaki started, Kira completely cut Elliana off, shutting himself in his room whenever she came to his house, as he believed she deserved better and he didn't want the torment to extend to her. Despite Elliana knocking on his bedroom door every time she came over, Kira stood firm to his decision and never opened the door, even telling her to leave him alone if she was really persistent. Eventually she gave up, either due to her finally believing he was a monster, or because she grew tired of constantly being refused, Kira didn't know. All he knew was he had lost his cousin, his closest friend. Despite him believing it was for her own good not to associate with him, it had still been incredibly painful for Kira to stop seeing Elliana, and now here she was in the same class as him.
He kept his eyes down on the table, hoping he wouldn't catch her attention. He also prayed that she didn't recognise him, as he didn't put it past his mother to show Elliana any photos of him she'd managed to capture over the years. However, when he flashed her a quick glance, Elliana seemed to be completely engrossed in animatedly chatting with Tokage and Yamamoto, a large happy smile on her face. That never changed, he thought nostalgically, as he always remembered her smiling.
"Oh, that's just not fair," Kira heard someone muttering next to him. Turning his head slightly to his right, he caught sight of another boy with blond hair, although this boy's hair was nowhere near as long as Yamamoto's. His eyes were a light blue, and they were currently narrowed in contempt as he watched Elliana with her companion Yamamoto. "Doesn't he realise how lucky he is, and also how out of his league he is?!"
"I'm . . . sorry?" Kira asked, utterly confused. Just how many blonds were in this class?
"Oh, hey," said the boy when he heard Kira speak to him, flashing him a quick grin before going back to staring at Elliana and Yamamoto. "I was talking about that guy over there. He's delusional if he thinks he's got a chance with a beauty like her."
Kira himself dared to look at the duo, hoping Elliana herself wouldn't notice him. To his relief, the pair of them were talking in hushed tones as Tokage had gone back to her video, and if Kira strained his ears a little bit more, he realised they were no longer speaking Japanese, they were speaking a whole other language. It sounded like English, a language Kira knew the entire Shiro family was fluent in. Yamamoto clearly spoke it as well, because he answered her with ease while she giggled and whispered to him. Kira knew that having another English speaker around would be a comfort to her, as she always preferred speaking it at home.
"She . . . probably doesn't think so," Kira muttered, looking back at the other boy.
"Of course she doesn't right now," the boy scoffed. "Just give her time. She thinks he's alright now, and when he eventually makes a move on her she'll be so disappointed and heartbroken. Well, luckily for her -" he smirked, leaning back into his chair. "- I have a shoulder completely ready for her to cry on."
Kira blinked, not sure what he'd just heard. He had a feeling he knew where this was going. This boy definitely had a crush on Elliana, and he'd clearly deluded himself into believing she was going to like him back eventually. He was definitely the obsessive kind.
"Oh, by the way," said the boy when Kira didn't say anything back to him. He stuck his hand out. "I'm Monoma, Neito Monoma."
Kira glanced at his hand in front of him, and gingerly shook it. "I'm, Takahashi," he muttered. "Kira Takahashi."
"Nice to meet you, Takahashi," said Monoma with a smile. Kira was relieved for the distraction from Elliana, as he found him to be a lot more bearable now. "So I've gotta ask, who's your favourite hero? Mine's a little obscure, cause he retired around eight years ago now, but he was really cool when he was working!"
"Who's that?" Kira asked, giving Monoma his full attention now the conversation wasn't about how obsessed he was with Elliana Shiro.
"Phantom Lupin," Monoma announced. Kira's heart just about stopped. "You probably don't know him, a lot of people don't."
"I do know who he is," Kira replied. Monoma's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "He's my favourite as well."
"No way!" Monoma exclaimed happily. "You've no idea how many people have forgotten him! Well, I haven't! I'm actually on his fanpage!"
"Are you?" Kira asked in surprise. "What's your username?"
"Phantom Thief! I know, but a bit of homage never hurt anyone. I'm actually thinking of using that for my hero name!" Monoma explained with a smile. "I was slightly worried about it being a little on the nose, but I think I can get away with it."
"Wait." Kira knew he'd seen that username before. "YOU'RE Phantom Thief? I'm Lupin Jr!"
"Oh wow, you're one of the admins! Small world, isn't it?" said Monoma, chuckling. "I hadn't met any Lupin fans for so long, and now here I am talking with one of the admins of his fanpage!"
Kira smiled. He was definitely enjoying this conversation. "You want your hero name to be Phantom Thief? I'm sure he'd love that," he told Monoma. He knew the old man would definitely love to know that he still had fans, and that he certainly hadn't been forgotten either.
Despite Kira's anxiety about socialising, he was finding it relatively easy to talk to Monoma. He wondered if that was because they were talking about heroes, or because Monoma was a Lupin fan, but he hoped it wouldn't end, as he found he was enjoying himself talking to Monoma.
"Yeah, I wanted my hero name to be a little tribute to Lupin. I picked Thief because my Quirk is Copy, so it lets me use certain Quirks if I touch people. Not very impressive, I know, but-"
"I think it's cool," Kira cut him off.
Monoma's eyes widened with hope. "You do?" he asked.
"Yeah. With that Quirk, you could have almost any Quirk you wanted and do almost anything given the right situation," said Kira, nodding. "I'm assuming you were . . . picked on because of your Quirk?"
Monoma nodded, his expression morphing from one of sadness to one of smugness. "Yeah I was, but I'm in U.A.'s Hero Course, so who's laughing now?" he asked, folding his arms. "It's okay, I'll show them."
"Okay, that's enough! Quiet down, everyone!" a rough voice yelled at the students from the door. A man with exceptionally long canines, white hair and clad in a red outfit had walked into the classroom, and was now standing at the front with his arms folded, his eyebrows lowered. This must have been the Blood Hero: Vlad King. Fey had given Kira a heads-up that he was going to be his homeroom teacher.
At his command, the students all ceased conversation and sat down into their assigned seats. The teacher nodded in approval at this, and continued. "Welcome to U.A.'s Hero Course, Class 1-B. I'm the Blood Hero: Vlad King and I'll be your homeroom teacher for the duration of your time here. Now you know who I am, but I'm going to guess that not everyone in this class knows every person here. That won't fly in my class, as you're going to be stuck with everyone for the next three years, so you're going to need to know your class!"
He paused, glancing around at the students. "So, before we start, we're going to do a little exercise. You'll stand up and tell the class your name, and one fact about you. And no," he added, lowering his eyebrows again, "your Quirks don't count as the fact about yourself, so think of something else!"
This was met with groans from some of the class, at which Vlad King tightened his lips. "I had to do the same when I started, so don't complain!" he told them hotly. "Besides, it's a great way to break the ice."
Kira pondered this. He had to admit it was a good exercise to break the ice, like Vlad King had said. It would be an easy way for him to remember everyone, not that that wouldn't have been easy for him anyway.
He watched two people go before him, and he learned their names were Yosetsu Awase and Sen Kaibara, and Awase liked mobile phone games and Kaibara liked cameras. All too soon, they had sat back down and all eyes were on him.
Kira could feel himself breaking out into a sweat, as he nervously stood up from his seat. "My name is Kira Takahashi, and-" he trailed off, realising in horror that he hadn't put any thought into what his fact about himself would be. What could he possibly say? He was bullied for ten years straight because of his horns? No, he didn't want people to pity him. He attended Fukuhara Junior High? No, that was an easy cop out. His estranged cousin was sitting in the room, and she probably didn't even remember him? No, nothing about Elliana as people would probably think he was lying and he didn't want to be remembered as such.
Wait, remembering! That was it! "I-I have an eidetic memory," he finished, the words practically tumbling out of his mouth in sheer panic. He sat down as quickly as he could and hung his head, his cheeks burning in shame. That had been so embarrassing, and had probably not left a good first impression on his new classmates. They were most likely thinking he'd made a complete fool out of himself, and probably even stifling their laughter at him as well. It wouldn't have been the first time that had happened.
"You've got a what?" he heard the boy called Yamamoto say in his odd accent from a few seats away. Kira cringed, not wanting any more attention than necessary on himself.
"An eidetic memory," said a female voice, one that was incredibly familiar to him. He dared to look in his peripheral vision to his right, and to his amazement, he saw the redhead girl who he'd helped during the Entrance Exam. She had turned around and was talking to Yamamoto. "It means he very rarely forgets anything. Another term for it is "photographic memory.""
"Oh, cool! Wouldn't mind having one of them, I'm always losing shit!" Yamamoto chuckled heartily.
Vlad King's head seemed to snap over to Yamamoto at the curse word, his face twisting furiously with a vein bulging in his forehead. "YOU!" he bellowed, pointing at Yamamoto, who looked very much like a deer in the headlights at being called out. "LANGUAGE!"
Yamamoto appeared to flinch at the shouting, and almost shrunk down into his seat. Clearly, this wasn't the first time he'd been caught using bad language. "I've got my eye on you, boy," Vlad King growled, shaking his finger at the blond. "Now, who's next?"
After a few more people, Kira heard a very happy voice talking. "My name is Elliana Shiro, and I was born in America!" she shared. Kira could practically hear her bouncing on the spot as she spoke. He clenched his fist: clearly she had been much happier without him, therefore he felt no need to tell her who he was to her.
"My name is Sean Yamamoto," the odd accent broke Kira from his thoughts. "And I'm half-Irish." That explained why he spoke the way he did, he was half-Irish and he obviously favoured that half in his bad language.
When everyone had introduced themselves, Vlad King ordered the class to change into their gym uniforms and meet him outside for their Quirk assessment test. Kira felt slightly better about using his Quirk than he used to, so he already knew he was making progress.
Kira stood up when everyone else began filing their way out of the classroom. Kira kept his head down, hoping to just go with the crowd but as with many things in his life, it didn't go the way he wanted.
"Hey!" he heard from behind him. He turned around, and was shocked to see the redhead from the Entrance Exam. He wondered if she was talking to him, but a quick glance around quickly confirmed that: she was looking straight at him.
"You got in, then. Nice one!" she told him with a smile, giving him a thumbs-up like she did after he'd helped her. "I had a feeling you would, you were incredible at the exam!"
Kira flushed, not used to someone heaping praise onto him like that. He was more used to being put down about his Quirk, not praised for it. "Um, thank you," he muttered, daring to meet her eyes. They were teal and sparkled happily. "Y-you were great as well."
"Thanks! I'm Itsuka Kendo," she said, holding her hand out. "I never got your name at the exam."
"Kira Takahashi," he replied, shaking her hand. This introduction thing was slowly becoming easier, he noticed, because this time he didn't hesitate before shaking someone's hand.
"Very nice to meet you. I look forward to training with you," said Kendo, smiling at him before she withdrew her hand.
Before Kira could reply, two loud voices reached his ears. He glanced to the left, where he saw Elliana messing with Yamamoto. She appeared to be poking him repeatedly on the shoulder, and he was snapping at her in English, clearly telling her to knock it off, looking incredibly annoyed with her antics. Elliana was grinning, fully aware that she was being irritating and also talking back to him in English, albeit with a sugary sweet tone.
"DO! NOT! TOUCH! ME!" Yamamoto howled in Japanese, grabbing Elliana by the hand when she went to poke him again. "You know I don't like it!"
Elliana huffed, yanking her hand away from Yamamoto and folding her arms over her chest, a scowl spreading across her face. "You are no fun!" she complained, stomping her foot. Kira recognised this all too well: she was an only child and therefore she was VERY spoiled.
"Mm-hmm. And you're a spoiled brat who's about to throw a fucking tantrum. There, we're even," Yamamoto snapped, staring Elliana down. He had a height difference of at least five inches, so he was able to do this with ease. Kira was amazed that Yamamoto had brazenly called out her behaviour like that, because it seemed like he was one of the first to even attempt to do so.
Elliana's scowl deepened but Yamamoto paid her no mind, instead pushing her forwards with the rest of the students. "Now move it, I'm not being left behind. I don't want to be on the receiving end of our teacher's temper again, thank you," he ordered, shoving her again.
"Don't push me!" Elliana barked angrily, her scowl etched into her pretty face.
The taller blond shook his head. "Oh, do us a favour and put a cork in it, ya overindulged bitch," Yamamoto said wearily, rubbing his hand down his face. "Carry this crap on, and I'll tell your butler."
Elliana's face blanched, the colour draining completely from her cheeks and her eyes widening to the size of plates when Yamamoto mentioned the butler. She clamped her lips together, clearly stifling whatever retort she'd had brewing to throw back at Yamamoto, and turned to follow the rest of the class.
"She's got the right idea," Kendo muttered to Kira, beckoning him away. "Let's get moving before Mr Vlad King gets annoyed again."
