Dinner passes with chatting and eating, complimenting the cooks and listening to christmas music in the background. After dinner Burt grabs a beer and Finn goes to his room to call Rachel and wish her and her family marry christmas. Carol sadly has to leave for work because someone from her department got sick and she jumps in, getting the bonus for working on christmas and that on such short notice. Angela and Pam tell her to go and that they will clean the kitchen for her so she doesn't have to worry about anything.
Kurt and Blaine decide to go in Kurts room and exchange presents. First Blaine gives Kurt his present. "I looked through your books and you don't have that one but it screamed your name" he tells as Kurt unpacks a book. Paperback and small enough to carry in his bag when he wants to read in school or so. "Thanks B. I saw that one but I already bought two books so I didn't took that one but now I have it. I'll start reading it when I finished my current read" Kurt thanks him smiling and carefully sorts the new book on his bookshelf to the other ones. "I also have a second gift but you go now and I do mine last" Blaine says and makes Kurt curious.
"Okay I have two things too. First this" the chestnut haired boy says and gives Blaine a blue paper wrapped package. Blaine smiles when he unpacks it. It's a picture frame with a picture of them shortly after Blaine moved to Lima. Their first picture together. "For your desk or something to decorate" Kurt says and then gives Blaine the second gift in yellow paper wrap. In it is a book. A memory book and when Blaine opens it he sees a deflated yellow ballon glued on the brown paper and next to it Kurt wrote a letter.
Dear Blaine
Merry Christmas to you!
I kept your ballon along with your letters but I thought I keep the letters and give you the ballon. You had a rough year and a new start in a different town and I think the ballon represents how far you've come.
I started filling this book for you with some pictures and quotes and now it's up to you. Keep filling it. Write in it, draw in it or put pictures in it, tickets from the cinema or really anything you like.
Have fun with making this book your own!
Love Kurt
"Kurt this is- Thank you" Blaine says at a loss of words. "You're welcome" his friend answers and when Blaine leans in to hug him Kurt holds him tight. As tight as possible. They could hug forever. "Now for my last present. Stay here I have to get something from the car" Blaine says and leaves without waiting for Kurts reaction. The latter just sits on the bed, looking puzzled but still so very happy.
A moment later Blaine comes back and to Kurts surprise carries a guitar. "Is it what I think it is?" the older asks in disbelief and Blaine mocks "If you think I'm gonna give you a guitar knowing that you can't play no. If you think that I'll gift you a song yes". The curly haired boy sits down and stums his guitar for a moment before he starts playing and then starts singing too.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles
Will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yule-tide gay
From now on our troubles
Will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we all will be together if the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
Have yourself a merry little Christmas now
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years we will all be together only if the fates allow
Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow
And have yourself a merry little Christmas
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
I said have yourself a merry little Christmas now
"That was awesome B" Kurt says when his best friend finishes. "Thanks K" Blaine answers and puts his guitar down. For a moment both stay in comfortable silence and Blaine looks back to the memory book. "This is by far the best christmas I ever had" he then says. With his dad christmas never was very cheerful. "I know. I remember from what you told me in the letters" Kurt nods. Immediatly he gets the feeling of need. Needing to hug Blaine. To comfort him. Turn the tiny sad smile into a happy again.
"Since I can think christmas was a lousy tree, mediocre food and my dad drinking. More than normally. Christmas music from the radio and a little present from my mom, claiming it's from her and dad but as soon as I understood that my dad isn't a good man I knew it's just from her but before that I didn't" Blaine tells. Now Kurt really can't hold it back anymore. He closes the gap between him and Blaine and wraps him into a comforting hug. "From now on it'll be better" he whispers and feels the other boy nod "I know. Today was awesome and tomorrow with the guys, I never knew christmas could be that good". Tomorrow they are invited at Rachels together with Finn, Mercedes and Sam.
"I'm glad that you're happier now. And I'm glad that I'm by your side" Kurt answers and doesn't want to let Blaine go but he does and says "Let's get some cookies. I think we both need some". "Yes please. And hot chocolate please" the curly haored boy adds and makes them both laugh.
It's late when the Anderson-Bells drive home and even after that Kurt and Finn sit on the ground in Kurts room and talk. They often sit on the carpet or so, wrapped in a blanket and talk. Talk about Rachel, Blaine, school, glee, family and basically everything.
Sometimes when they can't sleep they just sit there in each others company, maybe with a tea or hot chocolate. But today they talk. For a while about how christmas went and how exited they are for tomorrow and then of course about Blaine. "It crushed me when he told me that this was his best christmas because the ones with his dad were so bad. No one deserves a parent like that" Kurt tells.
"What did he say?" the tall boy asks and Kurt answers "He described me how pity it was. His dad always drinking. More than usually. No real christmas meal just normal stuff. I know your favorite part of christmas is decorating the tree and the house when we're all together and listen to music. He never had that". "Wow" Finn mumbles "Poor Blaine. But think about it. The best christmas he had was the one with you. I know you. You will show him everything else he missed eventually".
Kurt nods and both boys start laughing. Then the chestnut haired boy looks down again to hide how red he is in the face "He sang for me". "He sings almost every song in glee to you Kurt. You just don't noticed most times" Finn says but his brother shakes his head "That's different. It was just us and his guitar when we sat on the bed and exhcanged presents".
"Which song did he sing?" the tall boy asks curious and Kurt answers "Have yourself a merry little christmas. It was so beautiful and his voice so magic for a second I honestly thought I will start crying". "He likes you. The same way you like him. The songs you more or less dedicate to each other and the way you are happy and behave around each other make it clear for everyone around you. That's not just best friends. You two are inseperable than when you just wrote letters. I and the whole glee club just waits until one of you make the first move so you two finally get together. I think Puck and Santana even placed a bet" Finn says.
The part with the bet makes them both laugh again. Then Kurt says "I wish it would be that easy. But yes maybe some day I or maybe he will make a move. Until then we're best friends". "Good. Keep me updated" Finn says with a look that tells Kurt "You're in that bet thing too right?". "Maybe. Maybe not. Find out by making a move" Finn says and stands up "It's late. Imma head to my room and go to sleep. You should too". He pulls Kurt up to his feet and hugs him quickly "Merry christmas and goodnight". "Merry christmas. Sleep well" the smaller boy answers and lays down in his own bed. He tries to sleep but his thoughts circle around Blaine and keep him awake.
Kurt is tired when he and Finn go to Rachels in the morning but two things immediatly make his morning better. First of all Blaine is already there when the bothers come in and second of all is the coffee that Rachel made. Finn apparently gave her heads up that they stayed up long and knowing her best friend she already made coffee. Sam and Mercedes are the last ones to arrive. They want to bake cookies today. Rachel and Mercedes planned everything and Mercedes brings the last stuff with them they need for hot chocolate and cookies before they eat the cookies and watch christmas movies.
While baking the friends listen and sing along to christmas music and in the evening they ate so many cookies that when everyone goes home they have a stomach ache and a sugar high. "Best christmas ever" Blaine whispers as he hugs Kurt goodbye. "I agree" Kurt answers and waves Blaine again before getting into the car with his brother.
