I do not own Pokemon
Parker started to walk, keeping to the tall grass, stumbling upon a handful of weak bug pokemons that both Vike and Pan had no trouble dispatching, until the trio reached the entrance to Pewter city. He saw a police officer standing guard at the gate, lazily scrolling on his phone while a Growlithe was lapping at his side. As expected, there was a poster with his picture glued to the wall, right next to one of Giovanni, his uncle and a few other team Rocket higher-ups. Parker wasn't sure if he was supposed to be flattered or insult his cousin and uncle for convincing him to join the organization in the first place.
He retreated back to the tall grass moving to the opposite side of the gate compared to the officer. He knew the fence was full of holes: there was almost no materials that a wild Raticate couldn't chew through and he knew for a fact the company didn't have the resources to properly maintain the fence.
After about one hour of walking, Parker found a hole big enough for him to squeeze through and saw into the rice fields that dominated the slopes of Pewter city's mountains. Yet, he didn't cross. It was only a couple hours before dusk, and he was sure the farmers were still working the fields. He would need to wait for night if he wanted to make sure that the road was clear.
And waiting he did.
A few hours later, Pewter city outskirts
The night fell hard on the city, the shadows of mount Moon stretching over Pewter city and once they completely covered the rice fields, Parker moved, crossing the fence into the empty area, Pan doing her best to follow silently and Vike flying up ahead. As he had predicted, the fields were completely devoid of life. Once he got close enough to hide in the shadows of the first few buildings, however, things changed, and he could spot a large crowd gathering near the gate to Viridian forest. An impromptu rescue party, no doubt. He smirked, turning into the dark streets heading toward the Museum of Science.
Parker avoided the park in front of the main entrance, opting instead for a much narrower and anonymous looking walkway that led him to a small shack on the side of the main building, guarded by a small metal door held together by a simple lock.
Parker turned to the walkway, grabbing the largest rock he could see. He didn't have the key, but the lock was't anywhere close to being strong enough to resist being bashed in by a rock as big as Parker's head. After the second strike, the lock gave way, allowing Parker to simply enter the maintenance room. There wasn't much in there, the shack was simply there to protect the boiler from wandering pokemons, but he wasn't here for that. He was here for the actual backdoor to the museum, gently nudged between the two larger boilers.
Parker simply tossed the rock through the glass pane of the door, reached in with his arm and simply unlocked it.
In retrospect, that door was a pretty glaring weak point in the museum's defenses, but he knew that many employees used that same door to catch a smoke break away from the customers. Weird how no one considered it in the contest of a thief breaking in.
He moved past the extensive fossil collection, headed straight for the deposit where he knew the climbing gear was stored. Exactly how he remembered. The deposit was rather well-stocked, and he grabbed both the largest gym bag and the largest backpack he could see. He removed the helmets in the gym bag, putting on one and tossing the others on the floor. He opened the backpack to see a collection of ropes, pulleys, belays, carabines and quickdraws. He smiled, closing the bag and slinging it over his shoulder. With a pre-prepared backpack and an empty bag, perhaps he could also nab something from one of the exhibits?
He dashed into the central hall. Parker looked at the directions: on the ground floor there was the fossil exhibit, the evolution exhibit and the Tanoby exhibit. On the second floor there was a space exhibit.
He knew he wasn't going to find anything useful in the space exhibit, but what in Arceus' name was a Tanoby? He looked at his two companions. He knew what Pan needed to reach her final evolution stage, and while there was a near certain chance to find a moonstone in the evolution exhibit, he was fairly certain that moonstones were also found in the mountain north of Kanto, which was coincidentally where he was going to in the first place. He supposed he could have found a few rare stones to bag, but he didn't have much use for them except for their monetary value.
Taking the gamble, he walked into the Tanoby exhibit.
The room was decorated with blue and azure banners, with ancient columns displayed in rows, as if in some kind of abandoned temple, with multiple display cases lined up.
At the side of the entrance, he spotted two sets of mannequins clad in the armor, one clearly damaged by the ages, while the others were clearly new, crafted in a replica of the ancient ones. Although very different, they clearly showed inspiration from wild pokemons, the left one even including pauldrons either made from or inspired by Cloyster's shell.
He spotted a few other mannequins wearing weird clothes, from brown silky tunics to some sort of leather shirt with the back completely covered with what appeared to be pokemon quills. Sandslash maybe? Parker shrugged. It was a replica, it was probably some synthetic material, but it looked kinda cool, so he shoved it in his bag together with a very fluffy white and green furry coat. Abomasnow maybe? He then dropped his backpack and swiftly put on an extremely cool black set of… ceremonial robe maybe? It was very clearly inspired by Umbron and the golden trim really popped on the black fur. Plus, it was very warm, which would certainly help him while on the mountain top.
Ready to leave, his eyes fell onto one particular item displayed in a case: a sword, undamaged by time, with a closed eye on the hilt and a flowing blue cloth attached to the pommel, in the same design as the banners on the wall. He smiled. A sword would certainly come in handy when fighting wild pokemons.
He smashed the case with his bag and grabbed the sword, admiring it for a second. Then, he swiftly grabbed the sheat on display right below the sword, put the sword in and started heading toward the exit. It was barely two steps out of the room when a flashlight illuminated him.
"Stop! Drop the bag and raise your hands, or I'll let Firecracker here burn you alive!" shouted a man, his finger pointed towards him while a very angry Arcanine seemed eager to attack him.
"Vike, Supersonic! Pan! After me!" shouted Parker, dashing for the backdoor exit, his Nidoran right after him.
The man was hit by the Zubat's Supersonic, his vision suddenly turned blurry and uncertain.
"Fuck! Firecracker! Grab the thieves!" shouted the guard, stumbling after his pokemon.
Parker was almost to the backdoor when the orange figure of an Arcanine sailed over his head, landing in front of him, jaws unhinged in a vicious bite, the pokemon's teeth piercing deep into his arm. Parker let out a pained groan, as he swung his sword at the pokemon's side, leaving a deep bloody gash that caused the Arcanine to release his arm.
Vike swept down, smacking his tails onto the unsuspecting pokemon's face. Fire lit up onto the Arcanine's jaws, only for Pan to slam into its side, charging in at full speed.
The Arcanine turned toward the Nidoran, spitting a tiny ball of fire straight into her face, covering Pan with burn marks.
Vike swept down, his tails slapping into its eye, forcing the pokemon to howl in pain, staggering on his feet. Parker's sword struck twice, shortly followed by Vike's tail hitting the Arcanine in the other eye and Pan's charging in again to headbutt the larger pokemon. The Arcanine swiped at them, claws going wild as he was dogpiled by the trio, red blood tainted with the Nidoran's venom flowing from the sword strikes on his body.
A cone of light flooded the area, and a panicked voice shouted for his pokemon.
"Firecracker! Get back!"
Without waiting for the reply, Parker charged at the door, slamming it open with his own weight, waiting for just enough time for both his pokemons to follow after him. He dared to take a glance behind him, the guard too busy ruffling his pockets for something to bring his pokemon back to full fighting capacity.
He scooped up a hurt Pan into his arms, careful not to hurt her with his new sword, and put her on his head, the Nidoran grabbing onto his helmet as Parker ran straight north, using the shadow of the various trees to hide from what he knew was going to be half of Pewter city's police. He cursed not being able to hit the Poké Mart or even look for a tent of some sort, but he got most of what he needed, so he'll just have to improvise.
He finally reached his destination: the rock wall he used to work at, little more than a warm up exercise for an experienced climber like him.
Except for the fact it was night.
Except for the fact that he didn't have the time to put on the equipment he just stole.
Except for the fact he had a sport bag dangling behind him, a pokemon in his arms and a sword in hand.
No, the sword wasn't a problem, he could just sheath it and handed it to Vike. Pan could hang onto him by herself.
"Ok Pan. Grab my hair and don't let go no matter what, ok?"
The pokemon nodded and grabbed his hairs, pulling a bit due to her weight. It didn't matter at the moment.
He took a deep breath, holding onto the first handle and pulling himself up.
The climb to the top was much harder than the one he remembered, but not as hard as he feared. Once he stood over the wall, he started rifling through his backpack, quickly pulling out the equipment he needed.
Climbing the wall would buy him precious time, a few hours maybe, but he wasn't going to stick around any longer in this city, not after barely escaping from his museum heist.
Once he donned the climbing equipment and properly secured the bags on his person, he headed toward the giant stone wall that was Mount Moon and slowly, very slowly, started his climb.
Notes
Rice fields in Pewter city? well duh, how else can they make Jelly-filled Donuts?
Yeah, Pewter city is a tad larger than it is in the game, similar to how it is in the anime. Because, let's be honest, if cities followed the population density they have in the games... Well, my apartment complex has probably more people living in there than the entirety of Kanto.
Ah yes... ITEMS! They each have their own unique attributes, we'll see if anyone figures them out without me telling them.
Boss: lvl 14 Arcanine (Flash fire) vs lvl 11 Vike and Parker + lvl 9 Pan.
Yes, I am aware that the Arcanine is EXTREMELY low level, but as a stone evolution you could get a lvl 1 Arcanine if you really wanted to.
While I spent about 20 minutes doing research, I have absolutely no experience in mountain climbing, so if anyone here sees me writing something exceedingly stupid, please let me know so I can fix it
