Chapter 9

They stopped in a wooded area for the night to rest and be prepared to go on the next sunrise.

"Kili, Aurora, watch the ponies," Thorin ordered out looking at the two of them.

Kili nodded his head and allowed Aurora to go first to the area where they were tying their ponies.

Win moved to start helping Bombur with the food not even given the order by Thorin. She began to peel the potatoes for the meal that Bombur was going to prepare.

Kili looked back towards the campsite with a worried gaze.

"Worried?" Aurora questioned looking at Kili as she patted the muzzles of one of the ponies.

Kili let out a breath. "Haven't you noticed that my uncle and Win are pushing each other away?" He questioned looking over at Aurora.

"I have," Aurora said softly, shaking her head lightly. "And it isn't our place to muddle in affairs." She gave him a look. "It is something that they should work out on their own."

Kili sat down on a stump letting out a breath. "I just have a feeling that she is his one."

Aurora's brow raised in confusion. "His one?"

"You know… his badgûna."

"Badgûna means one?"

Kili nodded his head. "In a way, yes. What do you call your ones?"

"Mo fhear-pòsda. Which means husband. Or Mo bhean ghràdhach. You think that she would call him her husband at some point?"

"I think that she would."

Aurora let out a soft hum. "I don't know… she seems rather upset with him… or him upset with her… But as I said fear eireachdail it's not our place to butt in."

Kili rubbed his face letting out a breath. "I just wanted my uncle happy and he seemed happy around her."

"Their choice, fear eireachdail."

Balin came over to Thorin looking at the younger dwarf seeing him staring at Win who was busy working with Bombur on the food. "Thorin you look like you are deep in thought again."

Thorin looked at his long-time friend and let out a soft breath. "Perhaps too much thought," Thorin said, tearing his eyes from Win and Bombur who were making a rather hearty stew for dinner.

"I know that look," Balin said, his eyes twinkling, giving Thorin a knowing look. "You've had that look in your eyes the entire time and before…" Balin said, sitting on a stump and looking up at him. "You care about her."

"I shouldn't though." He said, shaking his head.

Balin let out a breath. "Laddie I know that you want to do it that way, but I can see that you aren't doing an excellent job of it. You care about her, and I've seen the looks that she has given you when you aren't looking. You are not talking to her and she has done the same… since that night on the cliff…"

Thorin let out a breath pursing his lips together. "She called me her mo sheud." He said softly, shaking his head.

"Her gem," Balin said with a knowing look.

"I can't do that to her Balin."

"You two are meant for one another. Just from what I have seen from the time that you were together at the mountain."

"You know that nothing can happen."

"You wouldn't have given her that necklace if you weren't serious about her."

"You know they won't accept anyone but a darrow as a queen…"

"Thorin… I know that she is the one you love. The two of you make a good couple. You shouldn't push her away."

"Balin it's not that easy," Thorin said, letting out a breath and looking out of the corner of his eyes. "I called her my amrâlimê."

"Give this old man a piece of ease. What is wrong with calling her your amrâlimê? That tells me more that you love her."

"But I caused nothing but hurt towards her."

"Listen to me, Thorin. You are Prince Thorin King Under the Mountain. You love a fae woman a Princess. There is nothing wrong with that. I know you remember memories of you and her sneaking out."

Thorin cleared his throat shyly. "How did you… how did you know that we snuck out?"

"It's not hard to guess. You were two youngen's in love." Balin said with a soft chuckle. "But you two should talk it out. I can tell how hard it is on the two of you." Balin looked over, shyly looking over at Thorin before looking away. "Don't do something that will hurt you and her."

Thorin took a breath and looked over to where was working on the stew. He chewed the inside of his cheek watching her stir the pot up.

"Don't wait too long or it'll pass you by."

"I'll be right back Bombur. I'm going to get more wood for the fire." Win said, offering him a small smile. She got up to her feet and sprouted her wings fluttering away to go and get the wood that she promised for him. She took a soft breath as she began to pick up the wood on the ground making sure that it was good enough for a fire. She tried her best not to have tears falling down her cheeks as she picked up the wood. "Don't feel. Don't feel. Thorin wants nothing with me." She thought to herself as she picked up more wood.

"You shouldn't be out here by yourself." A gruff voice called out.

Win turned her head to see Thorin standing there. "Thought you would be talking with Balin." She said as she grabbed more wood and began to flutter back towards the company.

"I was… then saw you flutter away."

"To just gather firewood, Thorin." She said softly as she balanced the wood in her arms trying to be careful to not lose any.

"You never know what is out there."

"You know as well as I do what is out there in the world." She said as she moved past him. "Why are you bothering me?"

"Win… I…"

"Thorin you've said enough days ago." She said softly looking at him. "You call me your amrâlimê and you turn back on it… You don't want to tie yourself to me. That I can understand." She looked away from him as she felt her heart clench in her chest. She said moving away from him. She didn't want to be around him at that moment knowing that her heart could be on her sleeve at any given time if given the chance.

Thorin reached for her arm and pulled her back to talk to him even just for a moment. He wanted to fix this between the two of them. But he could only hope that she would give him the time of day to talk to her.

She looked at him trying to get her arm loose from his hold. "Thorin can we please not do this?"

"I just wish to speak with you just for a moment."

"Thorin," She let out a soft sigh. "You already said you wish you were more for me… but this Thorin… you've always been enough for me."

Thorin swallowed the lump in his throat. "I want to be more to you than a prince… a king who has lost everything."

"But you made a home in the Blue Mountains. A life full and plentiful." She said looking up into his blue eyes that she loved looking into so much. "But I know what you want… you want to return to Erebor and become the rightful king… once that is said and done… you'll need a queen, someone who isn't fae… someone who is a darrow… I know where my destiny lies… and it's not with you anymore." She said softly, removing her arm from his hand.

This is the end of Chapter 9. I hope it turned out well and you all enjoyed this chapter. Thorin messed things up with Win, didn't he? Do you think Thorin will be able to fix his problems with Win before it becomes too late like Balin wants him to or will he just dig a deeper hole than what he is in at this very moment. Please leave a review and let me know what you think of this chapter. Reviews help me keep going when it comes to writing. I hope to have the next chapter out soon. Until next time.
