Chapter one
(Third person)
40 years ago the high lord and high lady of the night court had a second child when she was born there was a blast of power signalling she was to be the Heir to the night court.
In Appearance she had her Fathers violet eyes, her mothers hair golden brown hair, Her powers However were a combination of both, she could wield basic magic from all courts, summon wings when she pleased but her most dominant power was that of her fathers.
As the heir to the night court Artemis needed a good relationship with the current 7 high lords and 2 high ladies of prythian a task her father put her to once she completed the blood rite with her cousins Cassie and Elara this spring.
That was a few moons ago she had spent a few days to a week in the courts depending on her hosts hospitality, She was visiting her last court currently she arrived a few days ago and was yet to have a conversation with the high lord she luckily had her aunt and uncle at this court so spent her time with them when the High lord of Spring yet again ignored her or feigned a reason he had to leave and couldn't show her around. she was currently holed up in the library at the spring court avoiding her aunt Elain who kept trying to get her to tend to the garden there was only so much she could endure.
(First person)
ugh i slam the book i was reading closed and put it back on the shelf, of all the courts i have visited the past few moons spring has been least fruitful Tamlin has barely noticed my presence and when he has its been grunts or mere pleasantries.
Dad? how long do i have to stay here, Tamlin is not giving me a chance, it's a waste of my time. I don't have to wait long before i hear his answering chuckle.
why don't you try and win him over with your charms or your smart-ass mouth?give it another week if you don't get anywhere then you can celebrate fire night there and come home.
fine.
I arrive for dinner a little late in a low cut forest green sparkly gown in honor of Tamlins court when i enter my eyes scan the room quickly aunt Elain and uncle Lucien sit together talking, a few sentries stationed at the back wall looking bored but alert, finally my eyes settle to Tamlin at the head of the Table to find he's staring actually staring at me intently as i walk closer to the table we keep eye contact, this close up i can really see how green his eyes are Beautiful i think to myself.
'Are you going to offer her a seat Tam or let her stand there all night?' Lucien drawls from the other end of the table.
Tamlin clears his throat 'Please sit Lady Artemis'
'Drop the Lady, aren't we to be friends?' i take a seat near him and accept a goblet of wine from the serving fae.
'Forgive me, Artemis for my lack of presence since your arrival i have been distracted as of late'
'Oh?'
'Court matters which i wouldn't want to bore you with'
'i wouldn't say that Tamlin maybe i can help?' Tamlin looks to Lucien as if waiting for his input but Lucien shrugs 'She won't back down Tam shes unfortunately just like her parents' i stick my tongue out at him before Tamlin turns back to me i paste a sweet innocent smile onto my face.
'We have had a few unwelcome guests cross the border recently' interesting
'Why don't you just deploy more sentries? why do you need to bother with such trivial things?'
'I do not have the sentries required for the job'
'why's that?'
'Your Mother turned most of my men against me a long time ago and i still haven't gotten near to the forces i used to have'
i glanced over to Lucien and Elain politely ignoring our conversation. I knew a bit of my parents past with Tamlin but for my mother to do that what on earth did Tamlin do to her?
I look back to Tamlin there was no anger in that gaze just sadness did he regret what he did?
'What did you do to her?' i ask quietly, he sighed before answering
'I' a pause 'i did not treat her correctly' He rubs at his temples and continues 'I acted like she was my property and didn't want to share her' i was slowly picking at my food while he confessed his actions but i stopped to place my hand over his when a jolt of energy zipped up my arm, i pulled my hand back and looked into Tamlins eyes who was looking at me with amazement even Lucien looked over cleared his throat
'Myself and Elain are going to take a walk around the gardens before retiring goodnight Tam ' he dipped his head at me 'my lady' he said with a wink then they were through the doors and the servants cleared up their dishes.
'Tamlin, you must hate me for what happened, why would you accept my dad's request for my visit?' This time he put his hand over mine that bit of energy was still there but i didn't flinch this time.
'Rhysand helped me come back to myself, I was in a bad place he made sure i took care of myself and eventually i got over Feyre but i know she will never forgive me she still hasn't set foot into spring since the day she left 60 years ago'
He takes a sip of his wine before continuing
'When Rhysand told me you completed your rite and was starting to go to the courts introducing yourself formally as Heir to the night court i was cautious about you coming here' He sighed and waited for my response
'What you thought id breeze in here and destroy your court just like my mother?' how dare he assume what i was like before meeting me properly
'I had only met you a few times when you was a child when rhysand would bring you with him when he checked up on me you mainly spent your time being coddled by your aunt eEain, you seemed to cringe away from me whenever i entered the area you was in, how was i to know who you would grow up to be?'
I cringed away from you because you spent most of the time as a beast any youngling would be scared
Tamlin's eyes shot up to mine as if he heard me, he shook his head before standing up.
'Why don't you come with me for a ride to the border tomorrow?' i pushed away from the table and joined him walking towards the door
'That would be nice, goodnight Tamlin' Tamlin took my hand and pressed a kiss to it
'Goodnight Artemis'
