Chapter 2:
"The Invite"
Misa always stayed in her room when the Kira Task Force had their meetings, and this afternoon was no exception. Besides, whenever she went out for a photo or movie shoot, Matsuda was her chaperone and "Manager", but because she had neither, her day was spent rehearsing for the next scene of her movie. The Director gave the cast two days off, for a new location selection, so Misa was afforded those days to learn her next lines.
But it was a scene Misa was having trouble with because the actor she was supposedly "in with love" in the scene was not Light. And she was having trouble picturing anyone but Light in the opposing role. The lines were easy enough to memorize, but the visualization of her "lover" was distracting and frustrating. All she could think of was Light in the role. But Light was as cold as ice to her, saying that her affection was one-sided. In her heart, she didn't believe him.
Why didn't Light express his love openly to her the way she loved him? Was it all this stupid Kira business that was distracting Light from expressing his true feelings to her? She wanted Light to love her, and they were both old enough to make it happen in all sorts of ways.
"Oh, Light…my sweet, darling Light, why do you forsake me? I love you, I love you!"
She said this in front of her dressing mirror, a long standing mirror that showed her from top to bottom. She hugged herself, wrapping her arms around her body—a one-sided warm. But she wished Light was hugging her, and when she closed her eyes, she imagined Light was, and whispering sweet nothings in her ear, exciting her, his hot breath on the nap her neck making her shiver, his body pressed against her back, his passion erupting, as he began to nibble on her ear.
Misa trembled sexually. She opened her eyes and began to breath a little heavy. She had gotten too excited, and it showed. Her face and upper body were flushed. She was only wearing her underwear, a white bar and panties. When she was in her own sanctuary, there was no use in getting dressed up. And she thought it was appropriate for the scene she was rehearsing. In the script, this was what she would be wearing, and her opposite—the actor—something similar. And there was no camera in her room here, so she feel free to explore her sexuality.
"Damn it!" she said. "I need—I want to see you, Light." She huffed angrily. And remembered even after the events with the pervert—Ken Kuzushi—she rarely got to see Light. She was told vague details, but enough. "How dare that—that sicko—do something like that to my dear Light. I'm glad he's dead, or I would have sought out Kira to kill him!"
She dressed, in a dark blouse, and skirt, and stormed out of her room. She didn't care the others were in a meeting, she wanted to see her boyfriend, and do couple things with him. What she really wanted was to go out on a date with him, a real date—and without Ryuzaki—and without Light chained to him like some dog. Light was not a animal!
Misa headed towards the elevator that would take her to the epicentre of the task force, where they had all their meetings. She had only been to it once, but it was a large place, filled with computer equipment, lots of screens, and a lounge area. But when she pressed the button to the floor, a message on a screen asked for a password. Without it, all were restricted. She slammed closed fists on the control panel. "Let me up, let me up! I want to see Light, now!"
The meeting about the Kira Case was over, but Light and his father were still working on the report about Ken Kuzushi at a work station, when Watari's insignia popped up on a small screen with two beeps. "Ryuzaki, Misa Amane is causing trouble in the elevator," he said. Then showed a live video or her slamming her fists to the control panel, shouting vulgar obscenities and demanding to see Light. "As per new protocols, the level we are on is restricted after the Jasper Yuta incident, but she not taking it lightly. She will damage the elevator if not stopped."
L sighed. "Let her up here, Watari. The last thing we need is another problem." Watari agreed and unlocked the elevator. The video showed Misa suddenly ceasing her tantrum, then looking smug, as if her actions had forced the elevator to acquiesce to her. L turned to Light. "Light, you really need to take charge of Misa Amane. I know her type. If you're not careful, she'll control you."
Light was dumbfounded, then turned suddenly as the elevator doors dinged, and opened. Misa burst out, and with her arms stretched out wide, she ran towards Light. Light had no chance to avoid a bear hug that literally pinned him to his chair. Her grip was like steel.
"Misa, I can't—breath!" Light said. "And Ow! My shoulder!"
Light felt his left shoulder. It was still sore after his surgery to remove two bullets after Jasper Yuta shot him. He no longer wore a sling, but it still ached.
"Oh, I forgot," Misa said, and backed off, but then kissed him on the right cheek. "Light, I'm so excited to see you! I just want to hug you, and squeeze you, and have you all to myself."
Light saw a rolling eye look from his father, who then walked away without a word. He knew what his father was thinking. "I thought you were rehearsing for a part in your movie, Misa? Our meeting ended a little while ago, but I'm working on something else. What do you want?"
Misa pouted. "How rude! I wanted to see you, Light. That's what couple do. If we can't go out on a date—" she gave Ryuzaki a nasty stare, then turned back to Light "—then the best thing is to be together here. Your sister is at school, and your mother is out with friends, but since you can't leave here, here is where we should have a date. That theatre in the lower levels….let's see a good movie. How about Casablanca or My Darling Clementine? Older movies, but classics!"
L mused, crouching on his chair. "Hmm, sounds like a good break. I'll get the popcorn."
Misa growled angrily. "Not with you, only with my darling Light." And she suddenly sat on Light's lap. "Now that he doesn't have to where a chain around his neck," she said metaphorically, "Light can come and go as he pleases."
"That's not technically true, he does wear an ankle bracelet," L said. "But I'm starting to rethink that. With the Kuzushi Affair, it wasn't very affective. And it can easily be removed."
"I'm not going to remove it, Ryuzaki. I agreed to wear it." Light tried to adjust himself. "Misa, can you get off me, please. I'm getting a little unconformable."
But Misa did something unexpected, she rotated her body, and now sat front ways, and locked her legs around the chair. Light was shocked. Misa's body was pressed him, her breasts inches from his face. He could see down her blouse. It wasn't an entirely displeasing view.
"Misa! Get off, please!" Miss pressed in, her breasts now firmly pressed into his face. "I can't breath!"
"No!" she said, and then hugged Light. "I want you! I need you! Hold me, Light. I want you to—"
Soichiro Yagami got involved. He tried to pull Misa off Light, but she held on to him tightly, and as Light's father pulled at her, the chair rolled with him. Misa was like some serpent with her body tightly coiled around her prey.
Light got his arms free and tried to push Misa away, but his hands cupped her breasts, and she loved his hands there, and seemed to laugh at his efforts. "Yes, yes, more…"
Misa seemed to be possessed and of one mindset.
Finally, the collective efforts of father and son were successful and Misa was removed. But Misa struggled wanting to be with Light. The rest of the task force members got involved. Mogi and Matsuda held Misa back by her arms. Light rose from the chair, and took a couple of deep breaths. His father at his side.
"Misa! What the heck is wrong with you?" Light said. "Look, I really think we need to define some boundaries. You're here because of the Kira Case, and so am I, but that doesn't give you the right to pounce on me like—like some wild animal when you want some attention."
"That's the very thing! You never give me any attention! You're always here!"
"She's right, Light," Ryuzaki remarked. "You never pay any attention to poor Misa."
Light eyed L. "Shut-up, Ryuzaki. Things are a lot different than normal. This isn't some vacation. I'm here to solve a case and catch a serial killer. I'm also here to clear my name. Once that is done, then—"
"Then—what?" Misa demand. "Tell me the truth. I want an honest answer. Do you love me or not, Light?"
L put an inquisitive finger to his lips. "Well, Light? The lady is waiting for an answer."
Light felt a trickle of sweat down the side of his face. Misa's affection was one-sided, but his could he tell this obsessive compulsive lovesick girl that he didn't care for her back. Misa was a cute girl, but she wasn't his type. He didn't want to string Misa along. He knew he had to say something.
Light opened his mouth, but then someone's phone rang.
"It's mine." Misa yanked her arms feel of Mogi and Matsuda. She frowned at Light. "Excuse me, but it might my Director calling." She reached under her skirt, where she kept a hidden phone pouch, and answered a flip-phone. (Light had felt something hard against his mid-section when she wrapped herself around him). "Yes," she said flippantly. Then her expression suddenly changed. She looked at Light with an almost shocking manner. "Yes, of course—when?" After a few moments later, she ended the call. "Oh, my, god! Light, you won't believe what just happened! I'm ecstatic!"
"What happened, Misa?" asked Light. "Something with your movie shoot?"
Misa smiled largely. "Oh, much better than that. The son of an American wealthy movie company, Cameron Cross, just invited us to vacation on his personal luxury yacht. He really likes my works."
"Who is Cameron Cross?"
The moment Light asked the question, Ryuzaki rotated in his chair and typed in the name in a search engine. A picture came up of a handsome, tall, blonde man, with a bright smile. There was a couple of flashy pictures on the screen. "Wow, good looking guy. Movie star looks."
"He's financed three of my most recent movies," Misa added. "He's heard so much about you, too. I speak of you a lot, and he says he wants to meet you. He has invited us both on a private vacation, that was my agent on the phone. Cameron Cross said he was thinking of expanding my profile to include promotional commercials for perfumes and even sexy lingerie. His father's company has major connections."
"You already do that, Misa-Misa," Matusda said.
"Oh, the Cross-Median Family encompasses a much larger market," she said.
"Why invite us on his luxury yacht, if he can just see you socially? And why invite me?" Light said. "But you know my situation, Misa. You haven't said anything about the Kira Case to anyone, have you?"
Misa shook her head. "I only tell the truth about you and me, nothing about the Kira Case. I was told explicitly never to talk about this case or our involvement, although some people do discuss Kira between takes. They're curious about Kira, and they say they feel safer with him around now."
"Getting back to what you've been saying about us…what did you say about us?"
"That we are lovers," she said with a playful smile, fluttering her eye-latches. "And that you're an animal in bed." She clawed her hands and growled like a wild beast. "Best way to dissuade anyone from hinting on me. So many people often try."
Light sighed deeply, putting an abashed hand to his face.
"Well, looks like you have a reputation for sexual prowess, Light. Good going." Ryuzaki smirked.
Light rolled his eyes. Although it wasn't the worse reputation. He was nineteen, and a lot of his friends had already had relationships. He was inexperienced in the field, so perhaps it was best to allow others to think what they wanted instead that he was a major flop in that department, so far.
But making love was a special thing between two people, he didn't love Misa. To him, they weren't capable. And they were currently caught up in a strange situation that involved them fighting for their lives to clear their names in being two of the worse criminals the world have ever known. They weren't like Bonnie and Clyde, two criminals during the Great Depression.
However, he still didn't like the idea that Misa's co-workers thought they were sleeping together. Misa liked him, but their relationship was merely platonic. And he was only focussed on one thing right now, trying to prove his innocence in being Kira. He wondered why she wasn't do the same thing, apart from her movie career.
L mused. "I think it would be a good idea if you accepted the invite, Light," he said. "If you don't, Misa will be embarrassed. And you know the media, they're like vultures. Once they smell blood, they peck, and peck, and peck. Yet best to cool it with telling your co-workers about Light, Misa. We don't need the media getting nosey about who he is, especially with the situation he's in…and me. But if this is the son of a movie mogul, this could make or break Misa's career. I think it's a good idea. Best to give a little, so you may get a lot later, eh? You never know, love may spring eternal." He winked at Light. "And you may just be able to better understand the subject matter—the person—wherein the report you're writing."
"Nice, Ryuzaki," Light said sardonically. "But, the ankle bracelet. How will I explain it?"
"Yes, well, I believe you're allowed a little latitude after the Kuzushi Affair. You had every advantage to escape, but you didn't. I even sprang for a day at a popular hot springs for you and your family for everything you went through with Ken Kuzushi. We were near one of the best: Jozankei Onsen within the forest. So…let's try a GPS tracker again, and this time, let's put it in a less conspicuous place. I'll have Watari and Mogi devise something up that will correspond to the 'younger generation' these days"
"Huh?" Light voiced.
"So, when is this trip on Cameron Cross's luxury yacht?" L asked. "I'm so jealous. You get to spend a few days living it up with the son of a movie producer. You never know Light, with your looks, this could be the start of a brand new beginning. You could be cast as the next big thing, the next male sex-symbol of your generation."
If it was a joke, Light couldn't tell. Mockery or not, Light took it at face value. Light smiled modestly. "Thanks, Ryuzaki, Although, I'm not one to care too much about my looks. These good looks of mine are all natural."
Soichiro snorted amused. "That's not what your mother and sister tell me. Before school, you spent just as much time prepping in the bathroom every day as if you're going on a date."
Matsuda and Mogi snickered.
Light frowned.
Misa came around, inserted an arm through Light's left arm, brought it close, and said, "I wouldn't mind if Light was a grudger. There's always a hidden side to everyone." Misa then looked up at Light, being a few inches shorter. "Although, you could use a hair cut. Your bangs are a little long for a boy. And where is your forehead, any way?"
More snickering from the peanut gallery, Light noticed.
"But if Light did become the 'next best thing' in Hollywood, then I can be his leading lady," Misa said, clutching Light's arm like a couple. "We could be the next break-out couple, like that romanic couple in that ship movie. You know, the one on that luxury cruise liner."
L swivelled his chair. "I recommend you bring a life preserver, Light. Misa just compared you to the couple that survives a large luxury cruise liner that sinks after hitting an ice-burg and the main male protagonist dies at the end. Not a good thing to compare with when you're about to accept an invite to a vacation on someone's yacht on the water."
Misa stuck out her tongue in jest. "It will be warm, Ryuzaki," she said. "Warm enough to skinny dip. Although," and suddenly Misa had a lustful look in his eyes, "I wouldn't mind it, Light-of-mine." Her brow bounced, hinting at something risqué.
"No," Light said firmly.
"Anyway…we go the day after tomorrow; Friday, and for a few days," Misa said. "We'll have to take a small boat to the yacht. The yacht is currently anchored deeper off shore, because it's so big, but within eye-sight of the marina. And I'm told we'll get more details when and if I accept the RSVP to the invite. And we'll get the V.I.P. treatment."
Misa hugged Light again around his waist.
"Oh Light, I'm so happy! I'm going to get to spend time on a luxury yacht with my boyfriend. I'm going to take lots of pictures for my social media accounts, my fans will love it! It'll also enhance my public image. And who knows, something else may happen?" She winked at him. "I foresee a little romance in the air. Maybe you'll even come to love me like I do you."
Light sighed deeply. "I guess a few days out-of-office could't hurt," he said, then smiled. "Okay, it should be fun. Send the RSVP, Misa. Ryuzaki and I will speak to Watari and Mogi on a course of action for an appropriate GPS tracker."
Misa hugged him even tighter. "Oh, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, Light," she said. "I knew you loved me!"
To be continued…
