To my readers-I decided that instead of making 2 huge volumes of A Ketchum's journey, I decided to make them into 4 separate volumes. Volume 1 will contain the Kanto and Johto regions, Volume 2 will contain Hoenn and Sinnoh regions, Volume 3 will contain Unova and Kalos regions, last but not least, Volume 4 will contain Alola and Galar regions. I want each and every one of you to know that if you personally don't like the way I'm writing the fanfic, then you don't have to read it. I will not reach through my laptop to force you to read any fandoms that I write for because you can probably find a lot better fanfics in those fandoms over mine. Even if you can't find what you're looking for and still don't like the way I write it, then I encourage you to write your own. Happy Reading!
I DONT OWN POKEMON. I ONLY OWN MY OC AND THE CREATION OF HER REGIONAL POKEMON TEAMS. ALL REGIONAL POKEMON TEAMS WILL BE POSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHAPTERS FOR MY OC.
Shoutouts:
The sun was shining at Professor Kukui's house. Ash and Pikachu were snoring away as Meeko rolled to her side on the floor beside Hayley's bed.
Narrator: After moving to Alola, Ash and Hayley enrolled in the Pokémon school, where the siblings, Pikachu and Meeko have met many new friends and Pokémon.
Hayley, rubbing her eye, grumbling as she came up the ladder to the loft.
Narrator: I wondered where you went off to.
Hayley: Morning.
Narrator: They're learning new things and having exciting new adventures every day!
Ash groaned for a bit on the couch as he starts to wake up and looked down at the Z-rings on both his wrist and Hayley's. He then remembers how they both used the Z-Crystals when they were battling Tapu Koko.
[Flashback]
"Go! Pikachu!" shouted Ash.
"Go! Meeko!" shouted Hayley.
"Here we go! Full power now!" shouted the siblings, once the attacks left Pikachu and Meeko.
"Pika!"
"Lucar!"
Both attacks hit Tapu Koko, and the Z-Crystals disappeared from their rings.
[Flashback ends]
"Morning, Ashy." said Hayley, yawning as she reached the loft.
"Morning, Hayley." replied Ash.
"Pika. Cario." said Pikachu and Meeko as Rotom wakes up.
"Morning! Right on schedule. Time to wake up." said Rotom, then turns to see Ash already sitting up. "Ash! You're already awake! What have you done with the Ash who sleeps late?"
"Good question." said Hayley, gently shaking Meeko awake. "He's never woken up on time before. This is the first time that he's ever done it."
"I can't wait until I can use a Z-move again, which means I'm going to have to get myself a Z-Crystal!" said Ash in excitement.
"I can't wait either." said Hayley.
"Pika." said Pikachu, still asleep and snoring away.
"Lu…(yawn) cario…" said Meeko, waking up and stretches her arms.
"A Z-Crystal?" asked Kukui as Ash and Hayley brought their dishes over to him.
"Yeah, both Hayley and I want to get a whole lot stronger and then have a rematch with Tapu Koko." said Ash.
"Hm." said Kukui, taking both bowls.
"I want to try those Z-moves again. Yeah!" said Ash as he looks at his sister, Meeko and Pikachu. "Right, guys?"
"You bet!" said Hayley.
"Lucario." said Meeko.
"Pika! Pika!" said Pikachu, raising his arm with his stomach bulging out.
"Pikachu! You and your little Pika tummy." giggled Hayley, looking at the somewhat overweight mouse.
"We have a pudgy Pikachu, Alola edition." giggled Meeko, poking Pikachu's pudgy stomach.
"Pikachu." Pikachu said to Meeko and Hayley.
"We still love you though." said Hayley.
"You're both fired up as if hit by a Blast Burn!" said the Professor.
"I remember you can earn Z-Crystals by going through the island challenge. Isn't that right?" asked Ash.
"It isn't the only way, but going through the island challenge is the most certain way!" Kukui said, placing a glass of milk in front of them. "The key to success is to pass the grand trial of each of the islands' kahunas."
"So how do you do that?" asked Ash, draining his glass.
"I will answer that with pleasure." said Rotom. "A grand trial is a battle between a Trainer and the island kahuna. If the trainer wins, the kahuna acknowledges their worthiness."
"Whoa! Sounds like fun!" said Ash, causing Hayley to grin.
"Fun?" asked Kukui. "You're up against a kahuna. So, if you're too overconfident, you can get yourself hurt and…"
"According to my data," said Rotom, interrupting the Professor. "a grand trial is preceded by lesser trials that must be overcome first." Pikachu continued eating with Rockruff and Meeko, gobbling up the food as fast as he can.
"Cario." Meeko warned the mouse.
"Pika. Pika." Pikachu tells her with a mouth full of food.
"Lucar, Lucario." muttered Meeko.
"First some littler trials, then boom!" said Ash.
"All right. I think we should pay a visit to Hala, the kahuna of Melemele Island." said Kukui.
"Right!"
"Let's go, go, go!" shouted Hayley, then runs towards the door. Just before she could reach it, Kukui grabs her by the stomach, lifting her up and places her over his shoulders. "You know, Hayley, you are way quicker than your brother." he said, chuckling.
"That's because I'm cute, Professor Kukui." said Hayley, trying to get out of his grip.
"Let's go." said Ash as he, Pikachu, Hayley and Meeko were out the door.
"Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Cario!" said Meeko.
"Be sure to guard the fort, Rockruff." said Kukui.
"Rockruff, ruff." said Rockruff, whimpering as it watches them head to meet Hala.
A group of Rattata and Raticate were eating fruit from the field until a guy running up to the crop. "No! This is terrible!" said the guy.
"Growlithe!" said Growlithe. Growlithe growled even louder, gaining the attention of both Rattata and Raticate, causing them to scatter. As the Pokémon ran across the road, Rattata and Raticate scared a few oncoming Tauros, helping a man deliver timber and caused a mess.
"Hm?" said Ash as he, Kukui and Hayley saw several people run to the scene.
"Pika?" asked Pikachu.
"What's that?" asked Ash.
"What happened over there?" asked Hayley.
"I'd say an accident." responded Rotom, seeing the crowd of people.
"Attention! This road will be closed until the timber is removed." Officer Jenny said to the crowd gathering around the accident. "Until that happens, please use a different route."
"Have any of you been hurt?" the man asked his three Tauros, who mooed in replied that they were fine. Kukui walks up to Officer Jenny, then asked, "Can you tell us what happened?"
"Professor Kukui!" said Officer Jenny, then looks over her shoulder. "A large group of Rattata and Raticate were eating everything in the field and during their escape, they raced across the road, causing all of this."
"Rattata and Raticate did this?" asked Ash.
"They caused this big mess?" asked Hayley.
"Are you two students at the Pokémon school?" Officer Jenny asked them.
"Yeah! My name's Ash!"
"Pi!"
"I'm Hayley, his little sister!"
"Cario!"
"These are our partners, Pikachu, Meeko and Rotom Dex." added Ash.
"Pikachu! Lucario!"
"Greetings."
"Officer Jenny, at your service." she said, giving a salute. "Actually, I'm a graduate of the Pokémon school, too."
"Wow! That's so cool!" said Ash and Hayley when the crowd behind them gasped.
"Hariyama." said the Pokémon, lifting up the timber with its trainer.
"You're strong!" said Ash, complimenting both Pokémon trainer and his Pokémon. "Those logs are like twigs to you!"
"This gentleman is Hala, the island kahuna." said Kukui, introducing Ash and Hayley.
"Huh? Uh!" said the siblings, running after Kukui.
"Hey, let me help." Kukui said to Hala.
"Us, too!" said Ash and Hayley.
"Thank you all so very much." said Hala as Ash and Hayley pulled on the logs. Hala looks at the Z-Rings on both siblings wrists while Meeko and Pikachu tried to push their end of the log up. Suddenly, just before Meeko could lift up one end of the log, the log was lifted off the ground by Hala and taking Pikachu with it.
"Pikachu!" said Pikachu, clinging on.
"I got you, buddy." said Hayley, running underneath the log to catch him.
"Thanks a lot, Kahuna Hala." said Officer Jenny as Pikachu let's go of the log and drops into Hayley's arms.
"Of course. It's my job to solve any problems the island may encounter." he said, with the log over his shoulder and places it back in the cart.
"I have a cleanup crew on their way here now." said Officer Jenny as sirens blared and a car pulls up. "And there they are."
In the back, a group of fighting type Pokémon were huddled together. "Machamp!" they exclaimed.
"Machamp!" said the first Machamp as it hands a couple of logs to its friend, and it passes the log down the line until all of the logs were picked up and placed back in the wagon.
"Thank you all for your cooperation." said Officer Jenny, as everyone applauded.
"Kahuna, my sister and I are here for the island challenge." Ash said as he faced Hala.
"I'm well aware of that." Hala replied, leaving both siblings confused. "I've been waiting. So, why don't the two of you and the professor come by sometime soon?"
"We certainly will, sir!" said Kukui.
"All right!" shouted Ash and Hayley. The next day, Ash, Hayley and Professor Kukui arrived at Kahuna Hala's house. "Oh, that was fast." said Hala. "Please come on in!"
"Thank you." Kukui said to him as Rotom takes pictures of Hariyama.
"Data updated." said Rotom as Hariyama watches. Ash and Hayley walked by a room and sees shelves full of Z-Rings.
"Uh, is this….whoa." said Ash, taking a glance at his Z-Ring.
"Yes. The Z-Rings that you and Hayley are now wearing are the ones that I made." explained Hala.
"Awesome!" said Hayley.
"You made it?" questioned Ash. "But we got them from Tapu Koko."
"I thought that might be the case." said Hala, then motions them to sit. "One day, I noticed that two of my Z-Rings could not be accounted for, then I realized it was the work of Tapu Koko."
[Flashback]
It was night on Melemele Island and Tapu Koko goes by Kahuna Hala's house, seeing a row of Z-Rings sitting on a shelf. Tapu Koko heads inside, taking first a Z-Ring with an Electrium Z. Upon the second Z-Ring, Tapu Koko stared at both a Fightinium Z and a Steelium Z.
A second later, the island guardian made its decision on the Fightinium Z before leaving out the window.
[Flashback ends]
"Has something like that ever happened before?" asked Kukui.
"This is the first time Tapu Koko's ever taken a Z-Ring, let alone two Z-Rings, that's for sure." said Hala. "It appears Tapu Koko has a strong interest in you and your sister, young man.
"Huh?" said Ash and Hayley, confused at the statement.
"I'm just talking to myself." said Hala.
"Kahuna, Hayley and I like to get a Z-Crystal as soon as we can." said Ash with Hayley nodding. "We'll need them for when we battle Tapu Koko again."
"Again, huh?" said Hala, with a glint in his eyes. "Ah. Ash, Hayley, if you don't mind, I'd like you both to answer a question for me."
"A question for us?" asked Ash, looking at his sister.
"Okay." said Hayley.
"I assume you now know that the people of this have been troubled by rash of wild Rattata and Raticate. Am I right?" he asked.
"Yes sir."
"If you were the person being asked to solve this problem, what would you do?" asked Hala.
"Uh…" said Ash.
"Hm….." said Hayley, placing her hand on her chin, thinking about the question.
"Hm!" said a smiling Kukui.
"I'd know. I'd take Pikachu and Rowlet and challenge them all to a battle….and then," said Ash.
"My young Ash." said Hala, cutting him off.
"Huh?"
"Are you and Hayley interested to learn why the island challenge was started so many years ago?" Hala asked, causing Hayley to come out of her thinking mode and listen.
"How did the challenge get started?" asked Hayley.
"You see, it wasn't simply to make Trainers stronger in battle." said Hala as Kukui pulled Hayley onto his lap. "It was to raise young people in such a way that they will love and protect the islands of Alola, as well as the many people and Pokémon who inhabit them."
"Love all that's here and protect it." said Ash.
"Pika." said Pikachu, curling up into Ash.
"Lucario." said Meeko, sitting at Hayley's feet.
"I want you both to look for answers that won't lead you only to battle." said Hala. "We'll talk about the Z-Crystals after I've heard what you and Hayley come up with."
"Hm." said Ash.
"Sounds fair to me." said Hayley.
"During my trial, I spent quite a lot of time thinking about Hala's question too." said Kukui.
"During your trial?" asked Ash.
"I bet that you didn't have a sister at the time to help." said Hayley.
"I didn't." said Kukui. "I'm an only child."
"Figures. Lucky you." mumbled Hayley.
"Lucar." said Meeko.
"Yeah." said Kukui, answering Ash's question.
"Food for thought, huh? Instead of rushing through things and answering right away, why not take your time and think it over." suggested Hala.
"Good idea." said Hayley.
"Lucario." said Meeko.
"Hm." growled Ash, folding his arms. The next day at the Pokémon school, Lillie had placed the egg on a cushion of a chair. "I have to say you're handling that egg with confidence." said Mallow.
"Bounsweet." said Bounsweet.
"I wish I could agree, but I'm afraid that I'll drop it. Doesn't sound confident to me." said Lillie.
"But that's my point exactly." Mallow tells her.
"Huh?"
"Just think about it. You used to be afraid of the egg itself." Mallow reminded her. Just then, both girls heard Ash and Hayley groan. "Huh?"
"This idea won't work." grumbled Hayley as she threw another piece of paper in the recycle bin.
"Pika! Cario!" said Pikachu and Meeko, worrying about their trainers.
"Ash, Hayley, it's not that bad." said Rotom.
"Easy for you to say, Rotom. You're not the one who's doing it." said Hayley, glaring at the Pokedex.
"Lucario, Cario, Cario." Meeko tells Hayley.
"You're right, Meeko. I'm sorry, Rotom." said Hayley.
"I wonder what could be wrong." said Lana.
"I calculate that was their 786th 'hm' and 'This idea won't work' since speaking with Kahuna Hala yesterday." Rotom tells them.
"Hm? 786 times each?" asked a shocked Lillie.
"Ash and Jordan are thinking about something for that long?" asked a shocked Mallow.
"Incredible." said Lana.
"Yeah, and I'm this close of asking for a Thunderbolt jumpstart." said Hayley.
"Pika?" Pikachu asked her.
"What? I did say I was close of asking." Hayley tells the mouse. "It works with Ash."
"You were going to ask the mouse." said Meeko.
"You were plan A. I would've asked you for a brainstorm." said Hayley.
"All right, please tell us what Kahuna Hala said." said Kiawe as he grabbed the chair in front of the siblings, who then groaned. "We may even be able to help you both out."
"Huh?" thy both said.
"All you have to do is just let us know what he said." said Lillie.
"Of course we're all here to listen." said Mallow.
"Wow, you guys are our heroes." said Ash. "Okay, there's a big group of Rattata and Raticate who have caused problems all over town."
"I know all about that stuff!" said Sophocles. "My neighbors have a food pantry that was attacked. So I took our refrigerator….."
"Sophocles," said Lana, placing a hand over his mouth. "right now, Ash is telling us what happened."
"I'm sorry." he said.
"Then Kahuna Hala asked us what we would do to deal with them." said Ash. "But I couldn't battle with my Pokémon to fix it."
"So that's what he said." said Kiawe.
"I've been trying to figure out which Pokémon would be best to use if it does come down to having a battle," said Hayley. "but I keep coming up with the same two Pokémon for each of us."
"Maybe if we knew more about Rattata and Raticate, that information might give us more of a clue." Lillie suggested.
"Good idea, Lillie." said Hayley.
"I believe that is my cue!" said Rotom, bringing up the information on Rattata and its evolved form when Ash suddenly grabs him.
"That's what Rattata and Raticate look like here?" asked Ash. "They look different from what we've seen."
"Way different." said Hayley.
"Rattata and its evolved form, Raticate, the mouse Pokémon." said Rotom. "A dark and normal type. When they band together, they steal food from people's homes. Long ago, they came here to the Alolan islands aboard cargo ships and eventually grew into the Pokémon we see today. The numbers of Rattata and Raticate eventually grew so large that Yungoos and Gumshoos were brought in from a different region to chase them off."
"That's it!" shouted the students, causing Togedemaru to squeal and run around in a panic, knocking Bounsweet and Popplio off the desk. Eventually, Pikachu picks up Togedemaru.
"Pikachu." said Pikachu as the Roly-Poly rubs her cheek against him.
"Lucario." sighed Meeko. Out in the grassy fields, Jessie pops her head out and looks around. "I think we're in the clear." she said as James and Meowth pop up beside her. "Hello, Freedom!"
"And goodbye living the Bewear lifestyle!" said James.
"No more berries and honey. We can eat whatever we want." said Meowth. "Yay."
"Wobbuffet!" said Wobbuffet, coming out of its Pokeball.
"Thinking back….the food satisfied my sweet tooth, but I don't want cavities." said Jessie.
[Flashback]
Bewear mixes in berries with the honey and feeds Team Rocket.
"Stuffed again!" screamed Team Rocket.
"Wobbuffet!" muffled Wobbuffet.
[Flashback ends]
"If there was a prize for number one caretaker, Bewear would win it, hands down." said Jessie.
"Huh?" said Team Rocket as they hear something running up behind them. Rattata and Raticate ran up, knocking them into the sky.
"Just like old times." said Jessie.
"It's an Alolan blast off." said James.
"Say it loud!" shouted Meowth.
"We're blasting!" they started to say but was quickly caught by Bewear.
"You've got the strength of ten times ten." James tells Bewear.
"If only Jordan were here to count this one." grumbled Meowth.
"We're off with a new Bewear blast!" shouted Team Rocket.
"Wobbuffet!"
"I see, if we ask Yungoos and Gumshoos to help us, we can all solve the problem together?" Hala asked Ash and Hayley.
"Yes, sir." said the siblings.
"Now that was a thoughtful and wise answer, you two." he said. "It's my answer too."
"All right!" shouted Ash.
"Awesome!" shouted Hayley.
"Bingo!" said Rotom.
"Pikachu!" said Pikachu.
"Cario!" said Meeko.
"Now I must be honest and tell you my question was to test whether you both had what it takes to go through the actual trial itself." said the kahuna.
"Huh?" said Ash, taking a look at his sister who nodded. "Then I should be honest and let you know that me and Hayley found the answer together with our friends. I hope it wasn't wrong."
"If it is, we're really sorry." said Hayley.
"No, not at all." said Hala, reassuring the siblings. "When we're searching for life's answers, we should look to our friends for help. That in itself is a very important life lesson."
"Even if said friend is your brother?" asked Hayley.
"Even if it's your brother." Hala replied, standing up. "Then, shall we go?"
"Right!" said Ash and Hayley, letting Hala take them to a cave.
"There are several Yungoos and Gumshoos living in this cave." Hala tells the brother and sister, once they had reached the cave's entrance. "They are all very strong, but there is one Gumshoos who is so amazingly powerful, it is called the Totem Pokémon."
"Cool." said Hayley.
"Totem Pokémon?" asked Ash.
"Yes." replied Hala. "There are several Pokémon in Alola who have that name. Most of them are following the lead of the island guardians, as they assist trainers who undertake the island challenge. So, Ash, Hayley …your trial are to take on the Totem Pokémon in a Pokémon battle and be victorious and then with the aid of the Totem Pokémon, I want you both to chase away the Rattata and Raticate."
"But wait!" shouted Ash and Hayley.
"Why would Gumshoos team up with Hayley and me?" asked Ash.
"Never fear. If you earn the Totem Pokémon's respect, during your battle challenge, it will assist you in your time of need." explained Hala. "I will be watching. I will be the referee during your trial."
"Whoa!" said Ash as he and Hayley see the cavern. "It's huge!"
"It's bigger than any of the Gyms we've been to." said Hayley.
"Totem Pokémon Gumshoos!" Hala called out. "You have a set of Trial-goers! Do your duty and grant them their trial."
"We're Ash and Hayley Ketchum from Pallet Town!" shouted Ash and Hayley. "We're asking you for a battle!"
"Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Cario! Lucar!" shouted Meeko.
"Pi? Pika?" asked Pikachu, picking up something from behind them.
"I can hear something." said Rotom.
"Huh?" Ash and Hayley looked behind them to see a Yungoos running towards them.
"Yungoos." said Yungoos.
"Gumshoos." said Gumshoos.
"Are they Totem Pokémon?" asked Ash as Hayley tilted her head in curiosity.
"Pika." said Pikachu.
"Cario." said Meeko.
"No, Ash, they are not." said Hala. "They're the Totem Pokémon's allies. You both will still have to battle them, however. We shall now begin the Pokémon battles that make up this trial!"
"Is there any data?" Ash asked.
"But of course." said Rotom. "Yungoos, the loitering Pokémon. Gumshoos, the stakeout Pokémon. Both are normal types. Yungoos have sturdy fangs and jaws and when they evolve into Gumshoos, they gain a certain tenacity and patience."
"If that's the case, then, Pikachu, I choose you." said Ash.
"Pika."
"You too, Rowlet."
"It's asleep." said Rotom, once Rowlet came out of its Pokeball.
"Whoa." said Ash. "Wake up!"
"Whoo!" said a woken up Rowlet.
"Meeko, I choose you." said Hayley.
"Yungoos!" said Yungoos, glaring at Rowlet who both hooted in fear.
"All right, Pikachu, Thunderbolt, let's go! Rowlet, use Tackle!" said Ash.
"Meeko, use Vacuum Wave!" shouted Hayley.
"Pika!" shouted Pikachu, releasing a Thunderbolt as Rowlet was about to tackle.
"Lucar…..Cario!" shouted Meeko, creating a ball of vacuumed air, then sends it at Yungoos and Gumshoos, who split as they both dodged the attack.
"Gumshoos!" said Gumshoos, using a Sand Attack, causing all three attacks to stop with Rowlet hitting the ground, Pikachu and Meeko were in the air. "Gumshoos!"
"Pi? Pika!" said Pikachu as Gumshoos appeared behind him and Meeko, knocking both of them to the ground. "Pi!"
"Cario." groaned Meeko
"Rowl!" trilled Rowlet as all three got up.
"Shoos!" said Gumshoos as it and Yungoos used Bite.
"Pikachu, Meeko, dodge it!" shouted Ash, as he and Jordan went for higher ground. "Rowlet, up in the air!"
"Pika! Lucario!" said Pikachu and Meeko.
"(Trills)" said Rowlet.
"Rowlet, Leafage!" shouted Ash as Rowlet trilled, sending out glowing green leaves. "You're not the only ones who can hide in your moves. Pikachu, Iron Tail!"
"Meeko, you too." said Hayley.
"Pika! Lucario!" said both Pokémon.
"Rowlet!" shouted Ash but doesn't see it. "Now what?"
"Oh, Rowlet snuck behind them without a sound." said Hala.
"Go Rowlet!" shouted Hayley.
"Yes! Rowlet, Tackle, let's go!" shouted Ash. Rowlet trills as it goes for the tackle while Pikachu and Meeko use Iron Tail.
"Pika! Cario! Rowlet!" said all three Pokémon as their attacks made contact with both Yungoos and Gumshoos, knocking them out.
"Yungoos and Gumshoos are both unable to battle." said Kahuna Hala.
"All right!" cheered Ash.
"Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Lucario!" shouted Meeko. Suddenly they heard something growling in the cave.
"Huh?"
"Pika? Cari?"
"That doesn't sound good." said Hayley as the ground shakes and a large Gumshoos appears, roaring at her and Ash.
"There!" said Hala. "This Gumshoos is truly a Totem Pokémon!"
"It's so big!" said Ash.
"I'm scared." said Hayley.
"Unreal! This one is three times the size of the previous Gumshoos." said Rotom, taking a few pictures as it roars, causing Rowlet to hit the wall. In the shadows, Tapu Koko was watching the battle. "Gumshoos!" bellowed Gumshoos.
"Pikachu, you and Meeko back away, then use Thunderbolt." said Ash as Gumshoos' body glowed red.
"Pika!" shouted Pikachu as he and Meeko jumped out of the way before sending a Thunderbolt. "Pikachu!"
Gumshoos fights off Pikachu's electric attack. "Meeko, use Crunch!" shouted Hayley with her arm raised in the air.
"Lucario!" shouted Meeko as her teeth became sharp, aiming them at Gumshoos' side.
"Gumshoos!" bellowed Gumshoos as it goes straight for both Pokémon.
"Pika! Lucar!" said Pikachu and Meeko, getting knocked back.
"Pikachu? Meeko?" said Ash and Hayley as Gumshoos appeared behind their Pokémon.
"That Gumshoos' speed is immeasurable." said Rotom. Suddenly, Rowlet goes behind the Totem Pokémon.
"Now, use tackle!" shouted Ash. Determined, Rowlet tried to use tackle again when Gumshoos picks up a rock. "Gum!" roared Gumshoos, hitting Rowlet who hoots in pain as Ash goes to catch it.
"Pika? Cario?" asked Pikachu and Meeko.
"Thanks a lot, Rowlet." Ash said to it. "You got Pikachu and Meeko out of a jam." Rowlet whimpers in his arms as Ash takes out his Pokeball. "Take a rest. Return."
"Rowlet did great, Ash." said Hayley.
"Thanks, sis." he replied. "Pikachu, Electro Ball!"
"Pi! Pika! Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu, sending Electro Ball from his tail.
"Gum! Gumshoos!" shouted Gumshoos, sending an even bigger Sand Attack, canceling Electro Ball. Pikachu gasps as his electro ball disappears when suddenly Gumshoos scratched Pikachu from behind.
"Pikachu, no!" screamed Ash.
"Meeko, Rock Tomb!" shouted Hayley.
"Lucario!" growled Meeko, creating a huge rock over her head and aims it towards Gumshoos, who then dodges it, causing it to break behind it.
"Thinking what I'm thinking, Hayley?" Ash asked her, causing Hayley to nod. "Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"
"Meeko, you too!" shouted Hayley.
"Ah, I don't think using Quick Attack will have any effect at all." said Rotom.
"Not the way we're doing it." said Hayley.
"Pika!"
"Lucario!"
Pikachu and Meeko ran quickly towards Gumshoos. "Pikachu, you and Meeko use that Sand Attack now!" shouted Ash.
"You hear that, Meeko? Follow Pikachu's lead!" shouted Hayley. Pikachu and Meeko went into the sand attack, running around Gumshoos in different directions. "Hm…." said Hala, watching as Gumshoos tries to see where both of them were going.
"Gum! Gum!" grunted Gumshoos.
"Pikachu and Meeko are so blended in with that Sand Attack, they can't be seen." exclaimed Rotom.
"Pikachu, Meeko, now!" shouted Ash and Hayley.
"Gumshoos?" asked Gumshoos as Pikachu came from above and Meeko from below.
"Pika! Pika! Pi!" shouted Pikachu.
"Cario, Lucario, Lucar!" shouted Meeko. Gumshoos was getting attacked from all sides by Pikachu and Meeko, until it finally falls to the ground. "All right, Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" shouted Ash.
"Meeko, use Force Palm!" shouted Hayley.
"Pikachu!" shouted Pikachu.
"Lucario!" shouted Meeko. Tapu Koko watched from afar as both attacks directly hit Gumshoos. Gumshoos fought off Pikachu's attack and slightly dodged Meeko's, before finally falling to the ground, groaning.
"This trial is over!" said Hala. "I declare the challengers, Ash and Hayley Ketchum, wins!"
"Yeah!" shouted Ash with his fist in the air.
"You did it!" said Rotom.
"That was heart pounding." said Hayley.
"Pikachu!" shouted Pikachu, jumping into Ash's arms.
"Lucario!" shouted Meeko, running over to Hayley's opened arms. Gumshoos grunted as it starts to stand up. "Totem Gumshoos?" asked Ash and Hayley as they ran over to it.
"Ash, Hayley, that's dangerous." warned Rotom.
"Huh?" said Hala, seeing that both brother and sister were concerned about Gumshoos.
"Are you all right, Gumshoos?" asked Ash.
"Gumshoos." said Gumshoos, pushing Ash away, then holds out two Z-Crystals. "Gumshoos, shoos."
"For us? Really?" Ash asked again.
"Gumshoos-shoos….Gum." said Gumshoos, thrusting a Z-Crystal in his hand before placing the other in Hayley's.
"Thanks a lot." Ash said to Gumshoos.
"Are you sure you're okay?" asked Hayley, raising an eyebrow.
"Gumshoos." said the totem Pokémon, nodding.
"Thank you." Hayley replied.
"Well, would you look at that?" Hala asked himself.
"It's a Z-Crystal and they're both ours!" shouted Ash.
"Awesome!" shouted Hayley.
"Pika! Pika!" shouted Pikachu.
"Cario! Lucar!" shouted Meeko.
"A splendid victory indeed!" exclaimed Rotom as he takes a picture.
"For a totem Pokémon to give a challenger such as these two, a Z-Crystal is a very rare thing." thought Kahuna Hala. "There's no doubt that Ash and Hayley are the most unusual boy and girl."
In the shadows, Tapu Koko takes off. "Excuse us. My sister and I were wondering if you'd help us chase off all of the Rattata and Raticate." said Ash. Grunting happily, Gumshoos gives the siblings a smile.
"Looks like you have a plan." said Hayley, seeing the grin. Inside a store, Rattata and Raticate were eating up the food. Outside, Professor Kukui and Officer Jenny were waiting by the door.
"Ash, Hayley, you ready?" asked Officer Jenny.
"Yeah." they both said.
"Thanks for helping out." said Ash, facing both Pokémon.
"You're the best." said Hayley.
"Gum!" said Gumshoos.
"Time to open it up." said Kukui, grabbing the door handle and both opens the door.
Rattata and Raticate gave out a puzzled squeak as they looked up to see Yungoos and Gumshoos. "Gum!"
"Gumshoos!" bellowed Gumshoos as it sends out a sand attack.
"Wow, I'm impressed!" said Officer Jenny. "These guys are doing a great job."
A Raticate squeaks in pain as it went through the air. The whole mischief of Rattata and Raticate ran out of the store and into the forest, far away from the store. "Gumshoos!" bellowed Gumshoos as the smallest Gumshoos and Yungoos growled after them.
"Just as the data indicated." said Rotom.
"I like it." said Hayley.
"Pika!" said Pikachu.
"Lucar." said Meeko.
"I can't thank you enough." said Officer Jenny, saluting Ash and Hayley.
"It's all because of the Totem Gumshoos team." said Ash.
"They're amazing." said Hayley.
"Young Ash…Young Hayley …." Hala called out to them.
"Huh?"
"As Kahuna of the island of Melemele, I'm very happy to verify that you both have indeed passed the trial." said Hala.
"Thank you very much." said Ash and Hayley.
"Good for you, Ash and Hayley." said Kukui.
"Your next step is the island's grand trial. Ash, Hayley, I'm really looking forward to it and to see your Z-moves in battle with my very own eyes." said Hala.
"I'm really looking forward to it, too." said Ash, then looked at Hayley. "Right, guys?"
"I can't wait." said Hayley.
"Pikachu!"
"Lucario!"
Narrator: As Hala, the kahuna of Melemele island, looked on, Ash and Hayley rose to the challenge of their first trial and passed.
Hayley: It was challenging.
Narrator: You think so?
Hayley: I know so, Mr. Narrator.
Narrator: Next up? The much-anticipated grand trial, battling the kahuna himself, as the journey continues.
