Gwen had never expected to feel torn this way. She loved Rhys, he was a good man, he adored her, he was funny and sweet, a great cook, and he worked hard. A big, cuddly, bear of a man, he made her feel safe and secure in his arms. She'd never had any doubts about their relationship. Not until she'd joined Torchwood.
Rhys was safe, familiar, predictable, but however much she loved him, the one thing he wasn't was exciting.
Torchwood, when she'd been investigating the organisation on her own, had provided a thrill. Special Ops, Andy had said, and she'd wanted to know more so she'd practically stalked them, found their base, and they'd let her in. Working for them now, every day was an adventure, and then she'd go home to Rhys, her ordinary boyfriend, and it was a let-down.
Where once it had been warm and comforting, now home was dull. Gwen couldn't help thinking about Jack, the way he flirted with her and she flirted back. She kept willing him to make a move on her, she was more than ready. He never did.
So now she's sleeping with Owen. It's exciting, but still not enough.
