SEPTEMBER 22nd, 75AW,
ARC FAMILY HOME, CITY OF DOMREMY, KINGDOM OF VALE
If one trusted their own family records, the Arc Family had a long and storied history, serving as some of the first Huntsfolk of the Kingdom of Vale after the Vytal Peace Accords and prior to that they had served as Knights in all four of the Great Knight Orders of Vale. For centuries, this most martial of Valean dynasties had protected, served and died in the service of their nation gathering honours and accolades aplenty.
Alexandre Arc, the family's current patriarch, was the Lead Huntsman of Domremy, acting as Head of the Association in eastern Vale and Catherine, his much loved wife of twenty years, served as primary combat instructor at Pharos Academy.
As both parents were often busy, their children had become quite self-sufficient quite early on. Once, their eldest child Saphron kept them all in line with a gentle hand and a smile. But those days had ended when she had left for Mistral so as not to be sent to Beacon. The next eldest Marie had tried her best, but she had been in the last year of training at Pharos herself and finding a method to work around her semblance of Decay.
So that left the next eldest, Caroline, to deal with her eclectic group of younger siblings over the weekend. The wild, rambunctious and battle-hungry daughter of the Arc Family was not the best of cooks, but knew enough to get by.
When all the family had the chance to cook together, they'd spent hours whipping up a feast before sitting down to eat together. Clam chowder with crackers, Turkey with gravy and all the trimmings, mountains of potatoes both normal and sweet, coleslaw and cranberry sauce, whatever little birds or rabbits the twins had snared…and whatever fish had been available at the market that day. This would be followed by some sort of dessert, usually some sort of achingly sweet cake coupled with whipped cream and mixed berries.
Today however, as it was just the six Arc children that remained at home, Caroline had made the decision as to what they'd eat. A classic staple of their native city, and one they could all make with ease: the Domremy Cheesesteak.
She had been quick to organise her siblings. Henriette and Elisabeth would go down the block to the bakery and buy some freshly baked long rolls, one for each of them, whilst she thinly sliced up the meat and onions. When the twins returned, Jaune would be the one to actually fry it all up. Slices of that cheese from the Bastion Mountains on the Western border with Vacuo would then be placed atop the meat and onion mix and allowed to melt. After this, the mixture is scooped up into a roll and cut in half.
This process was repeated for each of the siblings, starting with the youngest Louise, then Annette, then the twins. Jaune had prepared Caroline's at the same time as his own, so they could enjoy their meal whilst their younger siblings cleaned up. She tapped her roll against Jaune's, and dug in.
"I'm gonna miss this when I go to Beacon." Caroline remarked after the first few mouthfuls.
Jaune merely responded with a non-committal hum as he ate.
"I know you don't want to go." She said, "And I know you don't want to hear it, but y'know what I'm about to say."
Her brother glared at her. "Please don't.."
"Too bad! Remember, we're Arcs Jaune." Caroline reminded him with an almost sad smile. "We don't get the choice."
Valean Cuisine is clearly American inspired, but with the size of the US squashed down to the size of a single Kingdom. So Patch might have its own 'Valean Cuisine', Mountain Glenn had its own, the City of Vale has its own, etc.
