Gondor

Boromir stared out as Sauron's forces assembled outside their city. He stood in the first line of defense of his men, Faramir at his side.

He had been put in charge of the defense of the city after his father had retreated into the throne room, following his seeming breakdown. And, as he took in all of Sauron's forces, Boromir knew they were outnumbered. A sea of Orcs greeted him and his defense of Gondor. But he knew that he didn't need to win this battle. He just needed to survive long enough for Théoden and his men to arrive.

"Blimey," The Doctor muttered from behind Gandalf. "They make the Daleks seem small by comparison."

"Even so my dear Doctor, we must face them," Gandalf said from where he sat on Shadowfax.

"This might be the end of Gondor, brother," Faramir said to Boromir, so softly his brother almost couldn't make it out.

"Then it shall be the greatest end in the history of Middle-Earth," Boromir said firmly.

"The Nazgul aren't here yet," Faramir pointed out.

"This is just the first wave. They'll bring in the Nazgul later, to finish us off," The Doctor said and Boromir nodded his agreement.

"The Doctor is right. But we must last until then. Théoden and Aragorn will arrive by then. We must hold the line," Boromir said firmly.

"And we shall," Gandalf said darkly, gripping his staff tightly.

The catapults the Orcs had brought then started flinging rocks, not at the soldiers, but at the castle itself, causing parts of it to collapse. The Doctor pulled some men away from falling debris, looking out at the catapults.

"We need to take out those catapults!" The Doctor shouted at Boromir, who nodded.

"We must return fire!" Gandalf added.

"Now!" Boromir ordered.

The trebuchets that Boromir and The Doctor had placed throughout the wall earlier in the day were then used to fling large rocks at the Orcs. Most crushed some of the army but one struck one of the catapults, demolishing it.

It was then that they heard demonic like screeches coming from the air. They all looked up, seeing the Nazgul coming down on them.

"Bloody Hell," The Doctor swore.

The Nazgul attacked, taking out the trebuchets and picking up some of the man as they took off. The Doctor noticed one of the Nazgul had a rider, a man in dark demonic armor that seemed to be the leader. There was no doubt in The Doctor's mind this was the Witch-King Gandalf has spoken off.

"Remain calm!" Boromir ordered as he saw some of his men begin retreating out of fear. "If we give into fear, all is lost!"

"Fire!" Faramir ordered, leading the archers in firing at the beasts.

"No! Aim for the trolls!" Boromir ordered, seeing the trolls pushing the siege towers closer to the wall.

Faramir and the archers did as ordered, pelting the trolls pushing the towers with arrows. Two of them died, but one managed to push the towers to the wall and a flap opened, revealing a small battalion of Orcs inside.

The archers began shooting at them forcing some off the wall as Boromir and a few other soldiers begin engaging them.

Down below, some of the Orcs were using a battering ram to try and break down the gate, to no avail. Some of the archers along the wall were firing arrows, striking them the Orcs but not stopping them.

"Peregrin Took!" Gandalf called out as he noticed Pippin. "Go back to the Citadel."

"They'd called us out to fight," Pippin informed them.

Two Orcs suddenly rushed towards Pippin. Seeing this, The Doctor drew his sword as Gandalf rushed them with a roar. The Doctor quickly beheaded one of them with a sword from his sword while Gandalf struck the other in the side with his staff, taking him down.

"This is no place for a Hobbit!" Gandalf snapped before striking another Orc.

Several more Orcs rushed Gandalf and The Doctor from behind and they turned to engage. The Doctor slicked one through the armor as Gandalf knocked two aside with his staff. One was rushing Gandalf from behind but, before Gandalf even knew it was there, Pippin drew his sword and stabbed it through the torso from behind. Gandalf and The Doctor turned, realizing what had happened as Pippin yanked his sword out and the dead Orc fell to the ground.

"What was that you were saying about Hobbits?" The Doctor joked and Gandalf chuckled.

"Guard of the Citadel indeed. Now, up the hill you go. Quickly now. Quickly!" Gandalf ordered and Pippin nodded before going back up the hill towards the Citadel.

As Pippin moved back up towards the Citadel, they heard something from beyond the wall. Turning their heads, they saw a huge battering ram, shaped like a word, being pulled and pushed towards the gate by the army as the Orcs all chanted 'Grond'.

"What is a Grond?" The Doctor wondered.

"It was the Hammer of the Underworld, wielded by Morgoth, the equal of what you might call The Devil of Middle-Earth," Gandalf told him grimly.

"And so they've given this battering ram the same name as a fear tactic," The Doctor noted, rolling his eyes at the antics of Sauron. "Typical of men like Sauron."

Far from Gondor, a trio of ships was sailing along the river when they stopped Aragorn, Rory, Gimli and Legolas standing on the shore.

"You may go no further," Aragorn declared and one of the captains got to his feet. "You will not enter Gondor."

"Who are you to deny us passage?" the captain asked angrily and Aragorn looked at him stonily.

"Legolas, fire a warning shot passed the Bosun's ear. Mind your aim," Aragorn ordered.

Legolas did so; the arrow sailing passed the crew, cutting the check of the captain. He jumped back as the arrow stuck a ship behind them in the side.

"That was your only warning shot," Aragorn told them.

"Prepare to be boarded," Gimli said and they crew laughed.

"You and whose army?" the captain asked and Rory laughed.

"Oh, you shouldn't have asked that," he said amused.

"This army," Aragorn said ominously.

Barely had the words left Aragorn's lips when the Army of the Dead appeared, rushing towards the ships. The laughter had left the crew, now replaced with screams of terror.

Gondor

Night

The chanting had continued for several hours, and it was almost time. They heard the banging of the ram on the gate as the enemy continued flinging flaming ammunition at the walls of Gondor. The Doctor, Boromir, Gandalf, Faramir and the rest of the army stood in front of it, ready to defend Gondor when they gate fell.

"Stay steady and true! If they get passed us, then all hope is lost! We are the last line of defense between Sauron and Middle-Earth. We must not fall!" Boromir shouted. "For Gondor! For Aragorn, the rightful king!"

"For Aragorn!" the rest of his men echoed.

It was at that moment the gate burst open, Grond poking through a huge hole in the gate. Everyone stood still, fear paralyzing them.

"Steady! You are soldiers of Gondor. No matter what comes through that gate, you will stand your ground," Gandalf ordered.

His words offered little in the way of comfort, but seemed to give the men their courage back. Grond struck again and the gate was forced open completely. Three huge trolls then burst in, whirling large maces, which then used to immediately begin attacking the army.

"Archers! Fire!"

At Boromir's order, Faramir and the archer fired numerous arrows, which struck the strolls. One was hit in the heart and fell down, dead. But the others rushed forward, leading the Orcs in. As the trolls used their maces to take out the army, the Orcs rushed in, enraging them. The Doctor and Boromir used their swords, taking out as many Orcs as they could before the Doctor whirled around, throwing his sword. It hit a troll in the neck and it gagged before going down with a loud thud. The Doctor then whirled around, striking an Orc in the neck. It gagged, dropping its sword, which The Doctor quickly grabbed before bringing it up and beheading the Orc.

Gandalf and Faramir were fighting side by side, Gandalf taking out the last Troll with his sword. Faramir fired arrow after arrow when, unnoticed by either, an Orc snuck up behind them. It stabbed its sword through Faramir's armor and the second son of the Steward of Gondor gasped, coughing up blood. Gandalf turned his head, staring in horror at what had happened before the Wizard struck the Orc in the neck with his staff with enough force to break his neck. The Orc went down as Faramir fell to his knees.

"Faramir!" Boromir cried out in horror as he saw the state of his brother.

The Doctor saw this as well and made his way over to where Faramir was along with Boromir, who struck down any Orcs that dared get in his way. It was at that moment the rest of the gate was thrown down, dozens of Orcs rushing in.

"Retreat!" Gandalf cried out.

The Doctor and Boromir helped Faramir stand, an arm over each of their shoulders as they all ran for their lives, Gandalf shouting orders to the remaining men when The Witch-King flew down, landing his Nazgul in their path. The remaining soldiers of Gondor fled in fear as Gandalf drew his staff.

"Boromir, get your brother to safety," The Doctor said as he gently removed himself from under Faramir's weight.

"Doctor-" Boromir started.

"There's no point in surviving if those we love are gone. Go," The Doctor ordered gently.

Boromir hesitated for a moment longer before he nodded; turning and leading his wounded brother away as The Doctor and Gandalf faced the Witch-King.

"Go back to the abyss! Fall into the nothingness that awaits you and your master," Gandalf declared, which only seemed to amuse the Witch-King.

"Do you not know death when you see it, old man?" The Witch-King asked in a voice that sent shivers up The Doctor's spine. "This is my hour!"

The Witch-King drew his sword, which lit on fire, to The Doctor's disbelief. The Nazgul shrieked as Gandalf raised his staff. But, to the shock of The Doctor and Gandalf, Gandalf's staff seemed to explode and Gandalf was sent flying off Shadowfax, landing painfully a few feet away. Gandalf raised his head as the Nazgul roared at him before The Doctor stepped between him and the Witch-King, drawing his sword defiantly.

"Step aside, Time Lord, and Sauron may let you live," The Witch-King said.

"We both know that's a lie. I will not yield. But tell me, how is it you know what I am?" The Doctor asked curiously and the Witch-King laughed; a chilling sound that was more terrifying than anything The Doctor had heard before.

"We were warned of you, by someone who thought you were a great threat. But they were wrong, and you shall fall here," The Witch-King said before raising his sword to deliver the final blow.

But, before he could, the sound of a horn blowing pierced the air. The Witch-King paused before flying off. The Doctor stared at the spot where The Witch-King had left before hearing the horn against. Lowering his sword, The Doctor walked over to the ledge, seeing the sun had risen. The Doctor then smiled as saw an army appear on the edge of the battlefield.

Rohan was here at last.

And that's the first half of the Battle of Gondor. Hope the changes were enjoyed.
