Hi everyone. Welcome to my new story, 'green eyes'. This is loosely inspired by a fic I wrote around five years ago, and then abandoned. This prologue chapter can stand alone as a one-shot, but I do plan to continue writing this story.

I do not own Harry Potter.

Without further ado, please enjoy the prologue of 'green eyes'.

The land breathed as a pair of green eyes opened for the first time.

Across England, the air suddenly felt lighter, the skies clearer, the sun warmer. The entire world seemed to become saturated with color.

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore's quill paused mid stroke. Sunlight poured through the elegant glass windows of the headmaster's office, and a soft smile crept across his face as Fawkes trilled.

Petunia Dursley looked up from her… petunias, as she crouched in her garden. Her shoulders suddenly felt less tense than they had in months, and the sour expression etched in her face faded. Beside her, the flowers seemed to preen, as if they were straightening up and standing tall in pride, joy, or perhaps a mix of the two.

In a St. Mungo's waiting room, a small congregation of the Order of the Phoenix waited, idle murmurs of conversation filling the otherwise silent room. Sirius Black stopped his nervous pacing and Remus Lupin closed his copy of The Daily Prophet as both men felt a sense of tranquility wash throughout the room. It was a feeling the members of the Order hadn't felt in a long time.

A robed figure frowned as he felt a vague sense of foreboding. His cold, pale fingers tapped the end of his wand as his followers shuffled anxiously to his silence. Lord Voldemort glared.

Lily and James Potter gasped as they gazed into the bright green eyes of the newly born Hadrian James Potter. In those green depths they saw nothing but innocence and purity.

"Oh, Harry" Lily cooed as James shifted around her bedridden form. "Little Harry."

At that moment, Harry James Potter felt love, safety, and comfort. He closed his eyes.

"Yer' a wizard, 'Arry." the giant man said.

"I'm a what?" the perplexed boy asked.

Green eyes flickered in confusion, disbelief, and hope. Hagrid chuckled.

"Excuse me, do you mind? Everywhere else is full."

Harry looked in surprise at the boy his age, before simply replying "Not at all."

Ron grinned at him as he hastily sat down.

Green eyes lit up with camaraderie and friendship as Harry grinned back.

As the boats glided across the black waters of the lake, Harry craned his neck and squinted as he looked for any sign of a school. Through the mist, the castle that was Hogwarts emerged.

Harry gasped, as did many others.

Green eyes widened in awe as they reflected their owner's wonder.

His breath caught in his throat as he stared at the mirror. He was surrounded by people, people he had never met before. They smiled at him, patted his head, and stood proudly next to him.

This mirror… just what did it show?

Tears filled his eyes.

Green eyes filled with longing.

The now solid figure of Tom Riddle laughed at the downed form of Harry.

"So this is the-boy-who-lived? The one who was said to have defeated me? Pathetic." he mocked. His twisted smirk widened as he called out, "charge."

Harry's eyes closed as he gritted his teeth, and pulled the sword of Godric Gryffindor out of the sorting hat. Phoenix song filled his ears as he opened his eyes to face his opponent.

Green eyes burned with determination. He gripped the hilt tighter.

"Harry, I'm your godfather." Sirius said, seriously.

A lump formed in Harry's throat before he rushed to embrace the man who he believed, just a few days prior, to be a murderer out for his blood.

Green eyes held love, affection, and overwhelming joy.

"AVADA KEDAVRA"

Harry stared in horror as the sickly green light blasted into the form of Cedric, who crumpled onto the ground. Blank, lifeless eyes met sorrowful, mournful green.

Harry roared. "I'M GONNA KILL YOU TOM!"

Green eyes blazed in anger and self-loathing.

Just a minute ago, he had been laughing.

Just a minute ago, he had felt a sense of victory, the Order were here! They would defeat Voldemort!

Just a minute ago, his godfather had been alive.

Sirius slipped into the veil of death, Bellatrix's shrill cackling echoing within the chamber.

Green eyes widened in agony.

This couldn't be happening!

He ran after the falling body of his godfather, breaking free of Remus Lupin's grasp.

He ignored the calls, the footsteps after him.

Five steps away…

Four steps…

Three…

Two… he could almost reach the man!

Crimson red filled his vision as a cutting curse tore apart his left shoulder and he fell to the ground.

A sharp kick to his ribs pushed him into the gateway, after his fallen godfather.

"HARRY!"

Green eyes shattered. Death took another soul.

Two figures stood over a bundle of fabric on the ground.

Silently, skeletal hands lifted a corner of the fabric to reveal pale skin, messy raven hair, and a lightning-bolt scar.

The Avatar of Death sighed, then glared at his counterpart. "This is all your fault." he stated, accusingly, in a remarkably unremarkable voice.

The Avatar of Fate giggled behind gloved hands. "I was so boooored~" she pouted.

Another glare. Another giggle.

"Fine." the skeletal boy huffed. "We'll do it your way."

The girl cheered childishly.

Another glare. Another giggle.

The two immortal figures clasped hands and blinding white light filled the room.

Misty dew drops sat lazily upon blades of green grass.

A cool breeze glided through green leaves.

The land breathed as a pair of green eyes opened for the second-first time.

I hope you all enjoyed this peek into my newest story. I will be diverging from canon quite a bit, but I felt it was prudent to acknowledge many significant events which have shaped Harry into who he will be.

Please review! I will try my best to respond to everyone.
