AN: Hey everyone! So first off Happy April Fools to those that celebrated that and Happy Easter as well. I'm so happy that everyone enjoyed Mamabear Lilith and yes Eliza, Carl pretty much mined his way under that bar. Now, I can honestly say Doyoufeellikeaheroyet1 I don't know if Zetial will become a future babysitter, but you've planted seeds my friend so who knows. And Wacko12, you had me so confused with the Grogu comment. XDD I spent an hour wondering who the heck that was and needed my husband to shine some light on it for my dumb butt. I'm unfortunately not a huge Star Wars fan, having grown up more with Stargate and Star Trek (Kirk and Picard all the way), but I'll have to give it a watch some time.
Now then, time to wrap up this story and lets see how this ends for now.
Chapter 5
Sleep Sweetly Now My Child
When Lilith returned home, she wasn't surprised that Charlie seemed a little more clingy than normal. She whined every time Lilith tried to put her down and would start to cry loudly if she couldn't see her. Though Lilith was at least happy it didn't seem like Charlie was scared of her and to be honest she did love the feeling of her daughter wanting her close.
The rest of the day progressed calmly after that. Lilith played with Charlie on the floor and tried to get her to talk only to be met with little giggles and naughty smiles as she would pretend she was going to say something only to jam a fist in her mouth. And dinner time was its own beautiful messy affair as well. Charlie had insisted once more to try and feed herself and ended up wearing more of her food than eating it, Lilith as well when she tried to wrangle the spoon back.
It was almost as if the whole debacle with Carl and Elizabeth hadn't happened and Lilith was more than happy to forget it. But there were little reminders throughout the day as well. Like when Charlie would reach for her and Lilith would see the claw marks Elizabeth had left behind. Lilith knew they would heal soon but that didn't change the fact that she felt a pang of guilt when she saw them. Then there were the times when she would just walk out of the room for a moment and Charlie would desperately follow her, whining as she crawled.
It made restroom visits a little awkward, but Lilith accepted it if it meant Charlie felt safe.
Bath time became a new experience for the pair as well as Lilith decided to wash with her. Normally Lucifer took care of bath time, claiming it was his way of calming her down before bedtime. Lilith snorted as she recalled sneaking a peek at him as he was giving Charlie a bath just a few days after she had learned to sit up. He had said it was a bubble bath, but as far as Lilith could see, there weren't any bubbles between her daughter and the hoard of rubber ducks she shared the tub with. Nor did she exactly see how he was 'calming' Charlie down by re-enacting the whole collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales to her with added battles. It had been fun to watch though as he panicked when Charlie had grabbed Sir Quackenberg the Ninth to chew on him mid-battle.
"Well, at least I can do this bit right," Lilith thought as she settled in the water with Charlie in her lap. The water was a bit cooler than she preferred it but Charlie's instant squeal of joy as she proceeded to drown one of the many ducks was enough for Lilith to put up with it. By now, the marks were just tiny crescent-shaped marks. They would be gone by tomorrow and then they could pretend it all never happened. "Oh my, what's this Charlie? Is that Princess Duckling swimming away?"
With one arm around her daughter to keep her in place, Lilith reached for two very special rubber ducks Lucifer had created not too long ago. Of all of the ridiculous number of rubber ducks, these were her favorite. It was a simple set made up of tree ducks, one being slightly smaller than the two others, but it was easy to see who they were supposed to be.
"One little duck went out one day. Over the hill and far away," Lilith began to see as he pushed the tiny duckling that looked like Charlie to bob away. Charlie cooed as she leaned into her mother's embrace, basking in the familiar soothing sound of her mother's voice. "Mommy Duck said 'Quack, quack, quack'," Using her magic, Lilith called both the Charlie and Lucifer ducks to float back to them. "And then Daddy Duck came home to bring her back."
After a few minutes, Lilith could free Charlie rubbing her eyes, the exhaustion of the day finally hitting her. With the grace given to her by her creator, Lilith eased out of the bath and allowed one of the maids to drape a large towel around her. After drying herself and Charlie, which had been a little tricky since Charlie didn't want to be put down, Lilith got dressed in a sheer nightgown before dressing Charlie in a white sleeping romper with little apples all around it. For once, Lilith didn't go to the nursery to tuck Charlie in though. Instead, she went to her and Lucifer's bedroom, summoning a bottle along the way to feed Charlie.
It was times like this, that she wished she could have breastfed Charlie just as Eve had done for her children, all twenty-some of them. Maybe it was because of the curse God had placed on her, but despite how well-endowed she was, Lilith had never produced any milk to feed Charlie with. Not that it mattered, the bottle had allowed Lucifer to also feed her when Lilith was too exhausted.
"My sweet little Spitfire," Lilith mused as Charlie tiredly latched onto the bottle, slowly drinking her fill. "You're going to sleep in here with. Just for tonight though. Daddy doesn't need to know."
There were a lot of things 'Daddy' didn't need to know if Lilith could help it, especially with what had happened today. In fact, Lilith was certain that Lucifer would probably lose his cool completely, probably even make it rain red if he ever found out what Carl and Elizabeth had done. And Lilith couldn't let that happen.
Lucifer would never forgive himself if he actually killed someone. The angel side of him wouldn't be able to handle it.
The sound of Charlie beginning to suck in air alerted Lilith that the bottle was empty and she calmly moved to burp the baby. As she patted Charlie calmly, Lilith mused that there had been a tiny when she could hold Charlie's bottom in the palm of her hand but now her baby had gotten so big, her hand could just barely cover it.
'I think I understand Luci better now when he was crying about her growing bigger,' Lilith mused as Charlie curled up against her chest with a tiny yawn. "Alright little one, time to sleep. Now what lullaby to sing..."
Lilith thought for a moment as she settled in for the night. Ironically, she ended up choosing a song she recalled Eve who sang to her children on nights when they would suffer nightmares. The second wife of Adam had never been an awfully bright woman, but it seemed she had been gifted with her own musical talents just as she and Adam had been.
"Sleep sweetly, my little one, sleep peaceful and calm. So sweetly you'll dream. Like the bird in their trees. Like the flowers now resting within the meadows. God, our Father has said: Stand guard, my angels, and protect. While my precious little ones sleep in their beds..."
She couldn't recall the rest of the hymn, but it hardly mattered as Charlie had already drifted off into dreamland. Kissing her gently on the head, Lilith settled herself down for the night. As sleep slowly started to overtake Lilith, she silently thanked that Lucifer wasn't very interested in what happenings were going on with the Sinners of Hell and that he would be away for a few more days.
There was no way in Hell Lilith was ever going to him what had happened after all.
Lilith wasn't sure when she had drifted off to sleep, but the next time she opened her eyes, she found Lucifer standing over her as he gently picked Charlie up off her chest. The man looked haggard and apologetically down at her, cradling his sleeping daughter close as he leaned down to kiss her.
"I'm sorry Love, I didn't mean to wake you." He whispered to her.
"What time is it?" Lilith whispered back, glancing at the clock on the wall to find it was nearly the witching hour. "You're back early."
"Yeah, the meeting ended early. It wasn't all that important," Lucifer answered, fighting the golden blush that was working its way up his cheeks. "Here, let me put Charlie to bed and-"
"No!" Lilith nearly jerked out of bed, freezing when she heard Charlie give a tiny groan in her sleep, though thankfully she didn't wake up. "No, just... let her sleep here tonight."
"Weren't you saying she needs to learn to sleep in her nursery?" Lucifer looked surprised. Normally she was against sharing the bed with their daughter. "Not that I mind but-"
"Just for tonight. One night won't hurt." Lilith assured him.
Smiling, Lucifer gently laid Charlie between them as he undressed and joined them in the massive bed. No sooner was he laying comfortably with them, did he unfurl his wings and wrap them gently around his tiny family, protecting them from the cold and anything else that might threaten them as they slept. Beneath the shield of feathers and wings, Lucifer looked lovingly at his tiny family.
"So, what did my two precious girls do while I was away?"
Lilith pondered for a moment as she gently stroked Charlie's hair. She was safe now, protected between her parents with her father's wing shielding her from the world.
'Stand guard, my angels, and protect,' She thought amused before leaning forward and kissing Lucifer softly on the lips.
"I fired Carl."
"Hhhm, you did, did you?" Lucifer signed sleepily before her answer finally registered in his brain. "Wait, you did what now?"
Lilith just laughed a little as they settled for the night.
AN: Oh Lilith. Keeping secrets isn't something I would advice as a parent, but I can't claim I don't have some from my husband and vise versa. We all have things we've done we aren't proud of. Though, I probably wouldn't keep this secret from him.
But hey, it's not like there's a chance this will bite her in the ass ever right?
Right?
Anywho, the bath time song is a revamped '5 little ducks' song and the lullaby Lilith sings to Charlie is a danish hymn called "Sov sødt, barnlille (Sleep sweetly, small child)"that's often sung at baptisms. It's always had a very special place in my life, despite not being very religious, because it was my grandmother's favorite song. It's a very sweet song that is pretty much a mother telling her baby to sleep peacefully because God has told the angels to protect them while they sleep. The lyrics are roughly translated because I can't find the hymn in English, if there even is one.
Here's a link to it sung by a chorus of young girls. It's really pretty: watch?v=KU9FmelpoWs
Also, yeah, no milestone hit here. I'm saving the first word for something a little special. Quick question for you all though. What are your thoughts on Charlie possibly having wings in the future? I know she doesn't have then in the series but I kind of like the idea that they are there but she doesn't know it because it's been kept secret from her or maybe forgotten. I'm asking because I know at some point she's definitely going to go flying with her dad, the question is just how.
Well as a little teaser, I can say the next story is gonna pick up right from Lucifer getting home and remembering how they learned they were going to have a baby. Until next time, take care everyone.
