Chapter 9: Molly the SuperStar

It is quite difficult to define the environment in which our protagonists find themselves. They had spent a not at all comfortable night. It turns out that the guppies had done something we never thought they would do: Deliberately disobey Mr. Grouper. Well, because of the desire to have uncontrolled fun, it caused some consequences in the group of guppies. To begin with, Gil ended up being humiliated in front of many people. Furthermore, that event was circulating on social networks. So, basically, he was exposed to the world. In addition to that, a rather sad atmosphere was generated. Well, Mr. Grouper felt disappointed in his students and had to scold them strongly (something he had never done until that day). Besides, this would cause certain conflicts within the group later.

Let's move on to the morning of the next day. It was a very silent morning. Nobody wanted to talk. The only sound that could be heard was the mansion's servants working to clean the place and prepare breakfast for the guests. At breakfast time, everyone ate slowly and without saying a single word. Everyone's spirits were low. There were no good things to say at that time. However, it is necessary to speak in difficult moments. And this started when a guppy decided not to check her cell phone.

"(sigh) Ookay… No more internet for a while. The only thing that appears on social networks is that video" Zooli commented quietly. Everyone knew what she meant by that.

"It's not a good idea to watch television today either" Nonny added.

"Hey guys...I...Well...I just want to apologize to everyone. You guys got into trouble because of me. It was all my fault and only I deserve the punishment..." Gil decided to apologize with all his friends.

"It's okay, man...We're not mad at you...We're all somewhat to blame. In the end, we were all complicit in one way or another" Goby calmed his best friend.

"Yeah, we are friends. We were never going to leave you alone...even though what you were going to do was wrong" Nonny commented too.

"It's true that I feel bad because we were disobedient...But I wouldn't want to have abandoned you either" Oona said.

"Don't worry, guys. Mr. Grouper loves us a lot...more than everyone thinks. He hasn't stopped loving us no matter what. But...It would be nice if something like this never happens again" Zooli explained. She remembered when she discovered her teachers thoughts about his students that night.

"Yes, I promise not to be disobedient again...Even if it's something super fun" Deema said touching her own neck. Just then, the teacher appeared.

"I'm glad to hear all that, kids. Disobedience usually does not leave anything good" Mr. Grouper appeared. The guppies decided to pay attention to him. Because it seemed like he was going to tell them something else. He was probably going to scold them more, because last night wasn't enough. However, he decided to open his mouth "(sigh) Listen, children. Surely you think that I was very angry with you and that you have disappointed me...And I am not going to lie to you, I was very upset by your actions last night. However, all this is because you are very important to me. I am your teacher and at this moment I am in charge of you. Imagine what would have happened if something serious had happened to one of you... What would I say to your parents? I felt more worried about you than ever. You are good children and I know that it is not common for you to do these types of actions" Mr. Grouper explained his thoughts and feelings. Everyone was silent thinking about what the orange fish was saying. Of all of them, Zooli smiled slightly. Because she perfectly understood the affection he has for all of them.

"I admit it was all my fault. I think I just wanted unlimited fun. Something that I feel that BubbleWood gave us thanks to all this fame we have gained" Gil admitted and recognized his fault.

"I think we all get carried away a little" Deema commented too.

"It is very probable. Kids, I've been thinking about it a lot these days. And after many things I think I have made a decision. Guppies, I think the best thing for all of us is...return to BubbleTucky soon. I don't think the world of fame is ideal for us. We have seen many not very pleasant situations and I think they will be safer at home. Where you will have life as we know it again" Mr. Grouper gave the guppies his final decision. The guppies were silent for a long time until they decided to respond.

"Oh great!" Some guppies said happily.

"I miss the days at school" Oona said with a smile.

"I miss the tranquility of my house and the neighborhood" Nonny commented quietly.

"I miss my parents" Goby said.

"I admit that I will miss the crazy parties but... I want more to return to our ordinary life" Deema admitted.

"Yeah! After everything that happened to me last night...Forgetting everything and going back to what I knew...It's the best for everyone, isn't it friend?" Gil said before he petted his puppy.

"Arf Arf Arf!" Bubble Puppy barked happily. He also wanted to return home to play with the guppies again. And he also got rid of that cat that bothered him and got him into trouble. Although the majority agreed with Mr. Grouper's decision, one of them was not in favor of it. Finally, this guppy decides to speak.

"Huh….Mr. Grouper? Don't you think you're exaggerating a bit? I think we should think better about it" Molly said curiously.

"What are you talking about, Molly?" Goby asked confusedly.

"I mean…..I know it would be nice to come home but...Please...We still have a lot to do at BubbleWood. You forget that we are starting a musical career together. Think a little about what we have right now. It is a unique opportunity. Fame, fans, we have earned everything thanks to our work... We can't just... leave it all as if it didn't matter" Molly commented her concern.

"Molly, you weren't thinking about being a music star forever...or were you?" Deema asked.

"Gil….But it's not the same. What happened to you is different. If only you had listened to Mr. Grouper's orders" Molly said. This surprised the other guppies. Even Mr. Grouper. Let's say she didn't say it in a very correct way. It was like a passive-aggressive phrase.

"Huh? Oh...It's easy for you to say...You were invited...Also, if you only knew what really happened that night..." Gil was upset by Molly's comment. He wanted to rub in her face the fact that he suffered that humiliation from her just to save her from something similar. But when both guppies wanted to continue arguing, the professor decided to intervene immediately.

"Calm down, you two" Mr. Grouper ordered. Molly and Gil stopped right now "Guys, this is not normal between you...And especially not you two who are best friends...Listen, it doesn't matter what happened...The important thing is that I have already made a decision and it will be fulfilled. Kids, after eating, prepare your things and we will return home. This is how things will be" That was what the orange fish said as the final word. No one commented anything and the truth is that everyone was confused by that friction between Molly and Gil. Especially because of the attitude of their leader. What was wrong with Molly? She was the most reluctant at the idea of returning home. What they didn't know is that something had begun to change little by little in Molly. And this wouldn't be the last time they would see something like this.

After all that, the guppies began to prepare their things for the next trip back to BubbleTucky. Where they wanted to return to their normal lives. They missed their families and their routines of school and fun like ordinary children. However, Molly wasn't as excited as the rest of her friends. She decided to go for a moment to the office of the mansion's hostess: Madame Octavia. Molly thought she should say goodbye to the great hostess she was with them. The guppy leader opened the door and found Madame Octavia in her office next to Wallace.

"Very good...Oh! Molly, darling! What a surprise to see you here. Tell me, do you need something? You know that I am at your service" Madame Octavia said politely.

"Hi, Miss Octavia. Hi, Wally….I….I….(sigh) Mr. Grouper has decided that we will return home. And I think that today we are leaving" Molly said with a low tone of voice.

"Oh my….Are you guys really going to leave so soon? And what do others think?" The cecaelia woman asked curiously.

"I think my friends agree. They also want to return home. Well, after what happened last night I can understand it" The pink-haired guppy answered.

"Hmmmm….I see….But...I don't see you very happy to be back home, is that right? What's wrong, dear?" The manager asked her with a kind tone of voice.

"I don't know, Miss Octavia. I would also like to return home but...We can't leave the Bubble Guppies' musical career like this. We worked very hard for this and they don't seem to care. This has been the dream of my entire life and they know it. I...I really...I really would like to stay" Molly explained her situation.

"I understand you, dear. It's not fair for you to have to give up on your dreams just because of pressure from your friends...(sigh) I know how you feel, dear" Madam Octavia said with a compassionate tone.

Now everyone knows me and I was able to crush those who doubted me with my success!" She told her short story to the girl. Madame Octavia tried not to get upset when she mentioned rubbing her fame in the face of people who doubted her. But she quickly calmed down to show the best side of herself to Molly "Anyway...Dear Molly, if you really want to be successful at BubbleWood and become the star you want...You could easily stay with me if you want"

"R-R-Really? But….I dont know….I don't think Mr. Grouper will let me. Also, what about my family? And my friends...I don't think I could be successful without them" The pink-haired guppy asked with doubt.

"Don't worry about anything. Everything is set. I will make sure your family lets you stay at BubbleWood. And don't worry about Mr. Grouper, he's just your teacher. And...oh right...your "friends"...You know, Molly? I didn't want to tell you before so as not to be rude but... I'm starting to believe that your friends aren't really your friends" Madame Octavia started with her persuasion techniques.

Because you are the star that shines brightest in the Bubble Guppies. You are the leader, the most striking among them all. You are the most talented guppy with the greatest potential of all. They just want to come home to be ordinary. But you are made to be more than that. Unfortunately, they want to dull your shine...Just like my "friends" wanted to do to me...Don't you understand, dear? You are more talented and loved by the fans than all of them...That's why they want you to go with them. They are just envious of you. If you stay with me, you will be the greatest of all. The biggest youth superstar in all of BubbleWood. Molly, the Superstar...Do you like the sound of that?" Madame Octavia explained all of this with a convincing tone of voice. Molly began to analyze everything she told her and began to accept many things. Because what she was saying made a lot of sense and fit with the actions of her friends.

"Do you really believe that? My friends...they don't want me to become a big musical star...They know perfectly well that I always dreamed of an opportunity like this...And...And I think you're right. I have created the songs. I am the main voice of the group. I am the leader..." Molly started to accept the image of greatness she had created for herself.

"And sadly, your friends don't want to see that. Mr. Grouper and the other guppies just want to outshine you. They don't want you to show your true potential. Unlike me, I always trusted you. Since you came here, I always knew you had everything it took to be a big music star. If the Bubble Guppies don't want to continue in the world of fame... You can shine in your new solo career. You already have the fans and you have my support" The cecaelia guppy commented on this new option.

"A musical career? My solo music career? It sounds...Sounds great but...How?" The pink-haired guppy kept doubting.

"The only thing you have to do is accept my new proposal. Stay in BubbleWood with me. Together we will take your musical career to the maximum. You will find greater fame, popularity, luxuries, new friends... The world will be in your hands basically. Everyone will love you. You will be someone important. And for us to start working on all this, you just have to do something very simple: You must sign this contract and you will have everything you have always dreamed of" The octopus woman explained her new offer. Wallace approached them with some papers and a pen. The cecaelia used her tentacles to take the paper and pen and placed them on the table in front of Molly as an indirect invitation for her to sign.

"If…If…If I sign this...Will I be able to stay at BubbleWood? But...will I see my family and friends again?" Molly asked nervously.

"Of course, dear. I will be in charge of making all your wishes come true. However, this is a limited time offer. This is your only chance. Otherwise you will go back to your normal boring life like your friends. Remember, we stars must make difficult decisions to achieve our dreams. You have the last word" Madame Octavia said as her final proposal. Molly was thoughtful for several seconds. Then, she simply took a deep breath, picked up the pen, and signed the contract. This meant that she had made the big decision of hers. Madame Octavia smiled as she saw what she did. And Wallace just took the contract and put it away.

"Dear Molly, you have made the best decision of your life. I promise you you won't regret it"

We will focus on the main living room of the mansion where we can see Mr. Grouper with the six guppies with their suitcases prepared to begin their long trip back home. They were waiting for the hostess to appear to say goodbye and probably ask for a return trip.

"Is everyone ready to go home?" Mr. Grouper asked with a smile.

"Oh yeah!" Some of them answered quickly.

"I'm excited to tell my parents everything we did...obviously leaving out some things" Deema said excitedly.

"I can't wait to sleep in my bed again. It's good that they let me take my new teddy bear" Oona expressed with a smile.

"It's your gift. You have the right to take it. Although we receive many gifts, I think we cannot take everything" Nonny commented about all the toys they received thanks to fame and money.

"This was all fun. But all those things are not so necessary to have fun. We only need each other" Goby smiled while he looked at all his friends.

"Is something wrong, Gil?" Zooli asked after she noticed her friends worried face.

"Hmmm….Has anyone seen Molly? I feel like she took longer than expected" Gil shared his concern. That caused curiosity and doubt among the other guppies. It was true, Molly hadn't shown up in a while. Just at that moment, Molly appeared in front of them along with Madame Octavia and Wallace.

"Hello guppies. I'm glad to see you again and...It's a real shame that you want to leave now. You could stay here longer" Madame Octavia said, showing her kindness.

"We greatly appreciate your hospitality and thank you for everything you have given us, but I think it is best for everyone if we return home. BubbleWood's extravagant life isn't for everyone" Mr. Grouper commented.

"Yes, we already miss our old routine" Deema said with a smile.

"Come on, Molly. You are the only one left. We're going home" Gil said with a small smile. However, this is where things were going to change forever. The guppies were thinking about starting to go to the exit of the mansion. But Gil turned to look and noticed that Molly wasn't moving "Huh? Molly?"

"Gilly, Mr. Grouper, guys...I've made a decision. I will stay in BubbleWood with Madame Octavia" Molly said determinedly. That was something that surprised everyone.

"W-W-WHAAAT?!" The six guppies gasped at the same time.

"Come on, Molly. This is no time for jokes" Deema smiled nervously, trying to believe that her best friend was only kidding them.

"Guys, you don't understand. We have a successful career as music stars in BubbleWood. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and you guys are going to waste it. But not me. I'm not going to miss this opportunity. If you are not going to continue, I will. Madame Octavia offered me to start a solo musical career and I accepted it" Molly explained all of this.

"Molly, you can't make a decision that big. You're barely a kid. I'm not going to authorize something like that" Mr. Grouper said seriously. He thought about approaching her, but noticed something that surprised him. Tim and Tom appeared in front of him and stopped him. They both looked very serious as always. At this moment, Madame Octavia approached Mr. Grouper with an arrogant smile.

"Well, do you know something? Your opinion is no longer valid. You are no longer Molly's legal guardian at BubbleWood... Now I am... Now Molly has the right to decide what she wants to do with her music career thanks to this contract she signed" The cecaelia showed Mr. Grouper the contract that her student had signed. The orange fish was able to read the most important thing and this surprised him. It was true! The teacher had stopped having authority over his student. Well, the contract said that Madame Octavia was now Molly's legal guardian for her musical career.

"I don't understand anything" Oona commented worriedly.

"I'm not going to allow it. What about her parents' permission?" Mr. Grouper faced her seriously.

"It's already covered, my dear fish. Why so much opposition to Molly fulfilling her dreams? She will be fine with me fulfilling her musical career" The octopus woman answered with a confident smile.

"HOW?!" All the guppies screamed in surprise. They approached them, although Tim and Tom blocked the way.

"Molly, tell me it's a joke" Gil asked her.

"No, Gilly….I am sure of this decision. I will finally be able to have what I have always wanted. It's a dream come true" Molly said, very sure about her decision.

"Is this really what you want? But Molly...What about your parents? What about Mia? What about us?" Deema asked surprisedly.

"Do not worry. I'm sure they will be proud of me...Something I thought you would be happy for me" Molly said a bit bothered.

"Of course we are happy that you are fulfilling your dream but...Is it really worth leaving everything else behind?" Oona commented.

"Molly...what's wrong with you? You...You have changed...Since when fame is more important than everything else. You've always had everything...And now you think that what you had means nothing to you" Gil decided to face his best friend.

"What are you talking about, Gil?" Molly asked him. The ambience is starting to get more tense than before.

"Molly, you've always had it all. Family, good friends and you are always the center of attention. Do you know how many want to have what you have? But you don't seem to care about any of that" Gil said to her.

"Plus, you're becoming someone else! First you started your competition against Stella. Then you became very demanding with us. You are obsessed with your fame and you are making not very nice friends, leaving aside your old friends" Goby joined Gil.

"That is not true!" Molly raised her tone of voice.

"So? Well, I don't remember any time you asked Gil how he felt when last night's incident happened to him!" Deema said bothered.

"Guys….Guys…Calm down…" Zooli tried to calm them.

"Fame is going to your head. As a good friend, I advise you to think things through better" Nonny advised her. He was calmer than the others.

"I don't understand. You are my best friends. You're supposed to be happy for me. But I only see that you want me to abandon my dreams just for you" Molly crossed her arms bothered.

"Oh wow...This just keeps getting better" Madame Octavia whispered Wallace in his ear. Obviously, hiding her thoughts.

"We are your friends, and that is why we are advising you that you should reconsider your decision" Zooli tried to calm her.

"No. If you were my true friends you would be happy for me and support me. You guys are just jealous that I'm the most popular and famous Bubble Guppy. Does it hurt you that I'm better than all of you combined?! Maybe I need better friends than all of you?!" Molly yelled that angrily. That caused everyone to be in a state of shock. She could only gasp and covered her mouth from what she just said. The guppies couldn't even respond. Those words were very very hurtful.

"This turned out better than I expected" The octopus woman whispered to herself.

"...G-Guys….G-Gilly…." Molly tried to talk. But she was stuttering.

"...Molly…" Gil just crossed his arms "I think you've said enough, superstar. We want to go back home...Because we want to see our families again and...we want to enjoy school and fun...Like normal kids...But it seems that It was never enough for the great Molly…It seems like it was never enough for you to have a good family. It was never enough for you to have great friends like them...(sigh) It was never enough for you to have me as...your best friend" Gil said it with a mixture of anger and sadness.

"...G-G-Guys…" Molly tried to talk.

"Don't worry, "friend". We are not going to "ruin" your career! I hope you find "better friends" than us. That's what YOU said" Deema said bothered. Something that not many expected was that one of them started to sob a little.

"I...I...I just want to go home" Oona sobbed a bit. She felt too hurt by Molly's words. Nonny simply touched her back comforting her in silence. Gil simply decided to turn his back on Molly and looked at the rest of his friends.

"(sigh) Guys, Let's go home" Gil said to the rest of his friends. The guppies agreed without saying another word.

"Guys...please...I don't…" Molly tried to talk.

"Hmpt!" Deema was very offended, so she simply turned her back on her old best friend. Goby simply waved goodbye to Molly and accompanied the blonde guppy to calm her down (or at least try to).

"Good Luck with your musical career..." Nonny said that in his usual calm tone. He tried to be polite even though he felt hurt. And he left with Oona and the rest.

"Goodbye…" That's all Zooli could say. She couldn't say much either.

"Arf Arf Arf" Even Bubble Puppy barked sadly before following his master and leaving her.

"No, please...I...No, not you, boy" Molly started to feel bad for the words he said. Mr. Grouper could not or would not say anything. He knew well that he couldn't do anything to change what happened. He simply looked at Molly and walked away as they were escorted by Tim and Tom. Both brothers made sure that the other guppies, Mr. Grouper and the cub left the mansion premises. Something she didn't expect was that Gil stayed looking at her for a few seconds. He was the last one left. It seemed like he wanted to tell her something, but Mr. Grouper and the others insisted that they should leave now. He glanced goodbye, but there didn't seem to be good terms between them. Molly was very sad. At that moment, she felt two hands placed on her shoulders. It was Madame Octavia in an attempt to comfort and calm her.

"Let them go. Not everyone tolerates the world of fame. You don't need them" The cecaelia guppy commented softly.

"I didn't think that's how things would be. I didn't think this would hurt much" Molly said sadly.

"Oh darling. I know it hurts. But to achieve greatness it is necessary to make difficult decisions...Even leaving behind what we loved... But don't worry, you will be better off without them. You will meet better friends and you will see that all this will be worth it when you achieve greater success" Madame Octavia comforted her.

"But...don't you think I was harsh on them?" The pink-haired guppy asked her.

"You only told them the truth. Not everyone likes it when you tell them the truth to their face. You didn't do anything wrong, Molly" She tried to calm her new pupil.

"Ladies, now that we have new terms...I think we should introduce Molly as BubbleWood's new youth superstar...with her new solo career" Wallace commented about preparing the new announcement.

"Excellent. Molly, we must announce the start of your solo career to the public. It will be a great event and you should wear the best. I prepared some things for you and even prepared some notes so that you can answer the most likely questions that you will be asked" The cecaelia woman explained about the next thing to do.

"Don't you think it's too soon? I still feel like I have to process all of this" Molly asked nervously.

"There's nothing to worry about, Molly. The sooner we start this new stage, the better it will be for everyone. Things are going to change slightly around here. Welcome to your new reign, Molly the Superstar!" Madame Octavia answered with a big smile. Although Molly was still thinking about the things that happened recently, she thought that if she occupied herself with something else she could forget about the bad experience that occurred. When she left, the manager smiled evilly "Hahaha! Everything went according to plan! Without Mr. Grouper and without the other guppies, there is no one to stand in my way. Oh Molly, you are cute and smart...but extremely naive!"

"The plan worked, Lady Octavia. Now Molly will be the superstar you wanted so much" Wallace commented.

"Yeah….And yet there is still work to do. We haven't finished yet. We must ensure Molly's success" The redhead woman replied.

"And by ensuring Molly's success, we ensure your success too...Isn't that right, Lady Octavia?" Her assistant added.

"That's right, Wallace. Now we must proceed with the next phase. Which will be easy without those meddling guppies" The octopus woman smiled evilly. It seems that things were going according to what she wanted.

Meanwhile, we can see Mr. Grouper with the other guppies leaving Octavia's mansion and walking away from there in silence. It was evident that Tim and Tom made sure that they did not enter the mansion chambers again. The group did not know what to say or comment. What could be said after one of them decided to leave them forever for fame? Despite this, some were able to speak.

"And now, what are we going to do?" Oona asked quietly.

"Isn't it obvious? We will return home" Goby answered.

"Just like that? Are we really going to leave Molly like this?" The purple-haired girl questioned the idea.

"That was the decision she made. We can not do anything about it" Nonny replied.

"But things can't end like that. We're supposed to be best friends. We shouldn't separate like this" Oona explained her point.

"Well, she no longer believes that we are her friends. Anyway, she already has new friends that are "cooler" than us...So they make her happy" Deema said that in an annoying way. It was evident that she had developed a slight resentment.

"Oona, don't worry. As long as all of us are united...we will be fine, won't we?" Zooli tried to improve the mood of the moment.

"Guys….(sigh) I know that we all feel bad and perhaps we are not ready to assimilate this sudden change...But sometimes we must learn to accept changes...Kids, what do you think if we go to eat before starting our trip back home? We need to eat well to have energy for the long trip that awaits us" Mr. Grouper explained. Although he also feels many things such as sadness and disappointment, he tried to make the students who were still in his care feel better. The guppies thought about it for a bit and agreed to go eat anywhere their mentor could. Everyone began to slowly follow him. The atmosphere was still sad and many could not even speak much. They knew that things were not going to be the same after that argument. While they walked the streets of BubbleWood going unnoticed...Gil turned to look back only to see the mansion in the distance. He was one of those most hurt by the words of his "best friend." He didn't open his mouth since he left the mansion with his friends and Mr. Grouper. He knew it was possible that he would never see her again. After everything I've done for her, it seemed like it was all in vain.

"(sigh) Molly…"

Wow...This chapter has been very sad and tense honestly. Things could be different from now on. Is this really what things will be like for guppies? How will Molly start her new musical career? Was it really worth it to push aside her best friends? What is Madame Octavia hiding? Will she get her way? Seriously, the Bubble Guppies will leave things as they are? Many of these things will be resolved in the next chapters. It should be noted that we are close to the final stage of the story/special/movie. So things will get more exciting too.

The subplot of the guppies infiltrating the party was a lot of fun (despite the problems that occurred afterwards) I'm sorry to say that things don't seem to get better in this chapter.
