Two weeks had passed since Elizabeth had arrived into the lives of the hotel's residents. In other words, two weeks of figuring out how to care for a baby. The first day had been hectic with Angel, Vaggie, and Charlie trying to build a crib, Husk trying to make a bottle of formula, and Alastor trying to simply make Beth be quiet. Despite being so small, she had quite the set of lungs.
Now, things were settling down as the residents were slowly getting used to Beth. Everyone was back to their usual routine and happy. Well, almost everyone. Alastor found much joy in having Beth but he was so exhausted he felt like he could pass out and sleep for a month. He made sure not to let it show. Showing weakness was the worst thing an overlord could do. For now he just had to keep smiling.
"Good morning, Alastor!"
Charlie bounced into the lobby making Alastor look up as Beth stirred, ready to start crying.
"Shh. It's alright, my dear Beth. Please don't cry," Alastor said soothingly as he gently rocked Beth back into a peaceful slumber.
"Oh sorry. I forgot Beth is such a light sleeper," Charlie whispered, sitting down next to Alastor. She noticed that despite his usual smile on his face, he had very noticeable bags under his eyes. "Al, did Beth let you sleep much last night?"
"Oh, a bit. You know how fussy she can be. I got up a couple times to feed her and put her back to sleep. Nothing I can't handle, my dear."
"Are you sure?"
When Alastor didn't answer, Charlie placed a hand on his arm. "How much sleep did you get last night?"
Alastor looked down and his smile faltered slightly as he whispered, "Two hours."
"Two hours? Al, you should rest."
I told you I can handle it. Besides, it's my responsibility as a father to watch Beth. You and your sweetheart are going to be out today so I can't count on you to babysit. I can handle things here," Alastor forced his smile wider, trying to convince Charlie that he would be fine.
"If you're sure. I still think you should try to rest right now while Beth is sleeping."
"All right. I will try."
"Good. See you later, Al," Charlie said before going upstairs to tell Vaggie she was ready to leave.
Once she was gone, Alastor got up with Beth in his arms and took the elevator to the fourth floor. He went to his room and gently laid Beth in her crib. Once he was sure she had remained asleep he went to his own bed and flopped down, all sense of dignity lost with his exhaustion. He had just started to drift off when Beth started to cry. Alastor's eyes shot open and the sound of radio static filled the room. His eye twitched as he sat up and grabbed a pillow. Beth screamed louder as Alastor shoved his face into the pillow and let out a loud, frustrated scream. It was hard to tell who's scream was louder; father or daughter.
Alastor's scream was cut off as the door to the room burst open. Husk stormed in and picked up Beth as he glared at Alastor. "You. Sleep. Now. I can hear you two fucking screaming from the goddamn bar! Legs and I will watch Beth while you rest."
Alastor watched as Husk left the room with Beth but he didn't try to intervene. Usually he would have torn Husk's limbs off for speaking to him that way but now, Alastor would take any help with Beth he could get. He put the pillow back in place and laid down. Within a minute, he was fast asleep.
Husk went downstairs to the bar where Angel sat on one of the stools.
"Here. Hold her,"Husk said, shoving Beth into Angel's top pair of arms.
"Why am I holding Beth?" Angel asked, gently rocking her so she would be quiet.
"You and I are gonna watch her while Alastor takes a nap."
"Did you just volunteer me for babysitting?"
"Do you have anything better to do?" Husk asked, handing Angel the warm bottle of milk Husk had just finished preparing.
"Guess not," Angel replied, feeding Beth her bottle. She immediately husked up as she drank the milk.
"How do you know how to feed babies so well?" Husk asked, leaning against the counter to watch the peaceful scene.
Back when I was alive, my twin sister Molly started a little babysitting gig. We were little then and nobody knew about my family's 'business' yet. Lots of people signed up and when Molly couldn't take a job, I would fill in. I got pretty good at handling kids."
Husk nodded and watched as Angel set aside the empty bottle. He accepted a rag from Husk to clean Beth's mouth then placed it on his shoulder so he could burp her. Once he was done, he just held Beth while she cooed happily in his arms.
He smiled and spoke to Beth in a little baby voice. "Hi Beth. Aren't you such a cutie? Yes, you are!"
Husk smiled and cleared his throat. "So… Angel. I know we've been going out for a while now and when I say this I don't mean right away or anything but… fuck, I'm shit at this."
Angel laughed. "What? You trying to propose to me or something, Husky?"
"No! I mean… do you want me to?"
Angel blushed. "Huh?"
"Guess not. I guess what I'm trying to say is that at some point in the future I wouldn't mind getting married and having kids. Before you ask, yes, I know that you're trans and though you're a guy you can still have kids. But we don't have to. It just crossed my mind and I-"
Angel cut off Husk with a kiss. He pulled away slowly and smiled softly. "I would love that, Husk. I couldn't want anything more. So… does this mean you're officially my boyfriend?"
"Yeah, I guess."
Angel smiled and gave Husk another quick kiss. He looked at Beth and held her closer. "Do you think our kids will be as cute as Beth?"
"More. But don't tell Al that."
I know there was a lot of Huskerdust in this chapter but I couldn't resist. I headcanon Angel as trans and I know that some females that transition to male can still carry children and that's how I headcanon Angel. I know not everyone will agree with me and that's okay. Quick announcement! The next chapter will have major time skip to when Beth is about 9 years old. Everything is pretty much the same though except for the fact that Charlie and Vaggie are married. I want to write more cute one-shots of when Beth is little but that will be a different story.
