Night had fallen rapidly and the first year students had gathered in the Ballroom where they had been provided some basic bedding, they were to camp out in the Ballroom overnight. Oriole, Ruby and Yang sat together against a wall, having changed into their pajamas some time before. Oriole was once again in a light tan nightgown, while Ruby wore a black tank top with a heart on it and white pants with pink roses. Yang was dressed the most provocatively between the three sisters, wearing very short black athletic shorts, and a short orange tank top with a flaming red heart on it.

Oriole kept glancing at her oldest sister, wondering how she was so confident, especially with so many people around. Yang repositioned herself to try and see what Ruby was writing down in her notebook, being nosy was just part of her personality. "It's like a big slumber party!" she announced, deciding to strike up a conversation, they had been sitting in near silence for some time.

However Ruby didn't bother to look up, continuing to write in her notebook. "I don't think Dad would approve of all the boys, though." In this case Oriole couldn't find anything to disagree with, there were so many boys around, some walking shirtless making her feel embarrassed to have her eyes open, she had thought about covering her eyes with her hands but that would have made things worse.

Yang let out a seductive purr as she stared at the boys walking around. "Oh, I know I do!" Suddenly she let out an annoyed or even potentially disgusted sound, Oriole tried to follow her line of sight and giggled seeing Jaune, the blonde boy from before walking around in a full feetie pajama suit. Suddenly Jaune had a new friend, Daiki appeared, arm wrapping around Jaune's shoulders… Oriole squealed loudly and threw her blanket over her own face. Daiki was shirtless.

Yang let out a new sound, even more animalistic than the one before as she spoke about the boys. "What's that?" her voice coming out a little husky. Daiki was very well built, his sun-kissed skin showed several crisscrossing white scars across his chest, abs, and back. The boy was laughing happily while ruffling Jaune's hair, clearly at some point the two had met, and at least Daiki thought they got along quite well though Jaune looked awkward with the much more outgoing Daiki.

"A letter to the gang back at Signal. I promised to tell them all about Beacon and how things are going." Ruby still hadn't looked up from her writing. "Now stop distracting me. I didn't get to take my friends with me to school! It's weird not knowing anyone here!"

"What about Jaune? He's... nice! There you go! Plus one friend! That's a hundred percent increase!"

Ruby didn't look up and threw a pillow at Yang. "Pretty sure Weiss counts as a negative friend. Back to zero…"

Yang laughed, ignoring Ruby's attempt to get her to leave her alone. "There's no such thing as negative friends! You just made one friend and one enemy! And not to mention Daiki! Boom! Two friends! Look, it's only been one day. Trust me; you've got friends all around you! You just haven't met them yet!" Rolling over Yang saw Oriole hiding under her blanket and a mischievous smile came across her face. "And what has you all hot and bothered over here Ori?"

Waving over to Jaune and Daiki, indicating that they could come over. Honestly she would have preferred to not have Jaune come over but for some reason Daiki seemed to get along with him so she would deal with having Vomit Boy around. Oriole couldn't see what was going on outside of her blanket, but the sudden silence from Yang was suspicious.

"Yeah… I'm not doing that." Daiki's voice came through and made her yank the blanket off her head so she could see. Daiki was standing a few feet away, Yang was standing beside him as if she had been whispering to him. "I've been hit by you sisters enough for today." Seeing that Oriole had come out from her shelter Daiki gave her a smile. "Good evening Ori… is it cool if I call you Ori?"

"Y… yeah…" Oriole muttered, her eyes drawn to his body, the scars seemed to be from blades or other weapons instead of claws. "What happened?" the direction of her question was obvious from how blatantly she was staring at his chest.

"A drawback to this." Suddenly he was sitting just about a foot away from her, opposite of where Ruby was laying down. "I'd rather leave it at that if you don't mind."

"How do you pick how you end up?"

"I just think about where I want to be, then I'm there… I need to see it though, I can't go somewhere I can't see." Daiki said with a shrug. "I wouldn't be able to imagine everything that might be there… imagine impaling myself on something because I didn't know it was there?"

"Has that happened?" Oriole asked with a gasp.

"No, because I haven't tried to Blink somewhere I can't see."

"So… how'd you two meet?" Yang asked, referring to Jaune and Daiki, they seemed to have formed a fast friendship even though it was only the first day.

Daiki laughed and was suddenly beside Jaune again. "This blondie puked right where I was sitting, luckily I got out of the way."

"Motion sickness is much more common than people think!" Jaune whined, but Daiki just laughed.

"I guess he was just jealous of me, I know I look good just sitting there, and someone like him has to work for it."

"W-what's that supposed to mean?" Jaune asked, suddenly feeling attacked.

Daiki laughed a bit. "Don't worry my friend! We'll get you a lady by the end of the night!" pumping a fist into the sky, to everyone else watching it was clear he was messing with Jaune, but as the victim of the teasing he couldn't really tell. "I don't suggest these sisters though…" Pointing at Oriole. "Too punchy," finger moving over towards Ruby. "Too into weapons," the finger slowly made its way towards Yang, a grin on his face. "Hmmm… this one is just right… but she's mine."

"Who's yours?!" Yang demanded, indignant, blushing brightly at his words. "When I want you, I'll let you know," Yang tried to turn the tables on him.

Daiki laughed, utterly shameless. "Ah, my mistake."

Yang raised an eyebrow, seemingly unimpressed by Daiki's audacity. "Your mistake indeed," she retorted, her tone laced with sarcasm as she crossed her arms over her chest.

Oriole couldn't help but stifle a giggle at the playful banter between Yang and Daiki, though inside several conflicting emotions warred. Ruby finally looked up from her notebook, her eyes flickering with curiosity as she observed the interaction unfolding before her. "You seem to enjoy teasing people a lot, Daiki," she remarked, a hint of amusement in her voice.

Daiki shrugged nonchalantly, a mischievous glint dancing in his eyes. "What can I say? Life's too short to be serious all the time," he replied, flashing a charming smile that made Oriole's heart flutter despite herself.

Jaune couldn't keep up with what was happening. "Uh… I'm still here… can I go to bed now?"

Daiki looked over at him and gave a shrug. "If you want to Jaune, I won't hold you hostage any more."

Oriole and Yang noticed that Ruby was staring off into a corner nearby with a few dimly burning candles, and a girl wearing black pajamas sat reading in silence. " That girl…"

Yang tilted her head slightly. "You know her?"

Shaking her head Ruby seemed like she was about to go back to writing while she spoke. "Not really. She saw what happened this morning, but left before I could say anything."

Yang reached down and grabbed Ruby's arm, forcing her to her feet with a quick yank. "Well, now's your chance! Come on Ori, let's meet Ruby's other friends!"

Oriole wrapped her blanket tightly around her shoulders before she stood up and trailed after Yang. Daiki decided to follow the group, he had no reason not to do so, Jaune had already wandered off, likely back to his little camp site.

Ruby struggled but she couldn't break free from Yang's iron grasp. "Wait! What are you doing?!"

Yang stopped in front of the girl reading, a friendly smile on her face as she led the small procession over to the girl's quiet corner. "Hel-looooo! I believe you two may know each other?"

The girl looked up, seemingly annoyed at the interruption of her book, but her expression showed one of surprise before she spoke. "Aren't you... that girl that exploded?"

"Uh, yeah! My name's Ruby! But you can just call me Crater…" Ruby tried to come off friendly but hesitated, almost giving herself a terrible nickname. "Actually, you can just call me Ruby."

Nodding the girl stopped looking up at them, her eyes flicking back down to the book. "Okay." A clearer signal she was not interested in conversation could not be more evident.

Ruby and Yang began to whisper back and forth rapidly, Oriole smiling a bit awkwardly at the situation. "Perhaps I should have stayed over with our stuff."

Daiki shrugged. "And miss the skit? This could be in a skit on VCSV… oh, it's starting again," he whispered back to Oriole.

"So... What's your name?" Yang was attempting to strike up the conversation again.

A sigh of disappointment came from the girl as she looked up from her book. "Blake."

"Well, Blake, I'm Yang, Ruby's older sister!" Pointing over her shoulder at Oriole and Daiki. "That's Oriole, our youngest sister, and Daiki, we met him earlier today, just like you and Ruby," a small pause where she thought about what to say next, "I like your bow!" She said, reaching, there wasn't much she knew about this girl so she was just trying to find something to talk about.

At this point Blake looked completely annoyed by the distraction, her voice taking on a barely concealed irritation. "Thanks."

Floundering Yang plowed forwards, trying to keep the conversation alive. "It goes great with your... pajamas!"

"Right…" Blake was attempting to turn back to her book, intent on just ignoring Yang at this point.

Oriole and Ruby began to laugh a bit nervously, they were feeling uncomfortable, even they could tell that Blake didn't want to talk with them anymore but once more Yang continued to attempt. "Nice night, don't you think?"

"Yes - it's lovely! Almost as lovely as this book!" Blake snapped out, her politeness almost at its breaking point. "That I will continue to read." her teeth clacked together in annoyance. "As soon as you leave!"

Daiki decided to step in to try and smooth things out between the sisters. Daiki cleared his throat, stepped closer to Blake with a disarming smile. "Hey there, Blake. Sorry for the intrusion. We just wanted to say hi and get to know you a bit. No harm intended."

Blake's demeanor softened slightly at Daiki's more respectful approach. She closed her book, placing it gently on her lap as she regarded the group with a more neutral expression. "I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm more of a solitary reader, you know?"

Oriole nodded understandingly, feeling a bit embarrassed for intruding on Blake's quiet time. "Yeah, we get it. Sorry for bothering you. We'll leave you to your book."

Yang shot Oriole an apologetic glance before turning back to Blake. "Sorry to bother you, Blake. If you ever want to chat or hang out, we'll be around. No pressure, though."

Now, only after they were about to leave did Ruby decide to speak up again. "What's it about?"

Everyone snapped their necks to look at Ruby. "Huh?"

"Your book. Does it have a name?" Ruby persisted, it was unusual even to her sisters for Ruby to take the initiative to try and talk with a stranger about anything but weapons.

Blake hesitated for a moment before answering, her neutral tone shifting into a slightly more friendly one, "Well... i-it's about a man with two souls, each fighting for control over his body."

"Oh, yeah... That's real lovely!" Yang snarked, however none of them laughed.

Ruby earnestly continued to talk with Blake, ignoring Yang's interruption. "I love books. Yang used to read to me and Oriole every night before bed if Dad was busy. Stories of heroes and monsters... They're one of the reasons I want to be a Huntress!"

Blake let out a giggle and shook her head slightly. "And why is that? Hoping you'll live happily ever after?"

Ruby nodded, against Blake's expectations. "Well, I'm hoping we all will. As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books... Someone who fought for what was right, and protected people who couldn't protect themselves!"

Blake couldn't help but smile at the optimism Ruby showed. "That's... very ambitious for a child." Suddenly the gentle smile shifted into a forlorn one. "Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale."

Ruby shrugged. "Well, that's why we're here! To make it better."

"Ohhhh! I'm so proud of my little sister! Being all mature and stuff!" Yang called out as she wrapped her arms around Ruby in another of her bear hugs.

Ruby struggled, unable to get free from Yang's grasp. "Yang! Cut it out! Let me go!" she called out, starting to cause a ruckus as her struggling caused Yang to lose her footing.

Oriole stepped in but only to prevent Yang from falling down. Any further intervention would have dragged her into the struggle, Ruby had almost grabbed her arm in the short time she had been in range.

Blake laughed at their antics, despite acting as a loner she didn't mind company sometimes. "Well, Ruby, Yang, Oriole, it's a pleasure to ha-"

Weiss' voice cut Blake off to the group's annoyance, they were making headway in getting to know Blake. "What in the world is going on over here?! Don't you realize some of us are trying to sleep?" Weiss tried to stomp her feet but without her heels the sound was rather pathetic. At the same time Oriole was making mental comparisons, Weiss was actually her height, almost… and a similar build.

"Oh, not you again!" Yang and Weiss spoke at nearly the same moment voices overlapping and their clear dislike of the other evident.

"Evening Weiss!" Daiki said with a grin and a wave, he seemingly had gotten around, though his Semblance might have had a hand in that. "We were just about to invite you over."

Weiss, her expression a mix of indignation and embarrassment, directed a sharp glare at Daiki. "I hardly think your idea of an invitation aligns with mine," she retorted, crossing her arms tightly over her chest. The dim lighting of the ballroom cast shadows across her face, highlighting the frustration etched into her features.

Daiki merely shrugged, undeterred by Weiss' cold demeanor. "Well, it's not every day we get to share a sleeping space with such esteemed and beautiful company such as those gathered here," he replied with a playful wink, his grin unwavering.

Weiss bristled at his attempts at charm, her cheeks flushing faintly as she struggled to maintain her composure. "Esteemed company? I highly doubt that, especially with the likes of you around," she retorted, her tone dripping with sarcasm. Despite his playful demeanor Daiki's eyes took on a sharp glint at Weiss' provocation before slipping back to his good natured smile.

Oriole, ever the peacemaker, stepped in before the exchange could escalate further. "Come on, Weiss, we're all just trying to get settled in for the night. No need to get so upset, let's all just go to bed," she said, her voice carrying a note of diplomacy.

Weiss shot Oriole a withering look before casting one final disdainful glance in Daiki's direction. With a huff, she turned on her heel and retreated to her corner of the ballroom, muttering under her breath as she went.

Daiki merely chuckled at Weiss' departure, now seemingly unfazed by her icy demeanor. "She's got spunk, I'll give her that," he remarked, his eyes twinkling mischievously.

As Daiki's attention shifted back to the group, Yang couldn't help but shoot him a sideways glance, her expression a mix of amusement and mild irritation. "Quite the smooth talker, aren't you?" she remarked, her tone light but tinged with a hint of teasing.

Daiki's grin widened in response to Yang's comment, clearly enjoying the banter. "Well, what can I say? A little charm goes a long way, how else can I live up to the legacy of my newest hero," he quipped, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

Yang raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk playing at the corners of her lips. "Just don't let it go to your head," she teased, her tone filled with mock admonition.

Oriole, standing quietly beside them, couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at the easy teasing and flirting between Yang and Daiki. She admired her sister's confidence and the way she effortlessly gave as much as she took verbally, but a part of her couldn't help but wish she had that same level of self-assurance.

Leaning over Blake seemed to have determined it was bedtime and blew out the candles, for a brief moment their region of the Ballroom was plunged into darkness. Within that darkness two sets of flickering glowing green orbs met, one set suddenly vanished, the owner having closed their eyes or looked away, their actions given away by the sound of shuffling feet. Daiki broke the silence, his smile standing out in the dark. "Let's go to sleep yeah? Big day in the morning."

Yang laughed and shoved him once she could see. "Sure, but you won't be sleeping with 'esteemed and beautiful company', go back over to the boys' side," she shooed him away with a hand, smile evident on her face.

Daiki held up his hands in mock surrender as he stepped back, bowing sharply at the hip. "Your wish is my command oh 'esteemed and beautiful,' Yang," seemingly guessing this would have ended poorly because once the last word left his mouth he was just gone. His figure appeared nearly fifty feet away standing in the 'boys' area', he mockingly blew a kiss towards the sisters.

"What a weirdo," Ruby said before turning back to where their blankets were laid out. Yang and Oriole however didn't reply and both sisters were grateful for the dim moonlight.
