The Black Manta was back home, and Sonny made sure the freed scientists were brought to the hotel that the Pirates used to house Visitors during the Football cups, to recover.
They were gonna need it.
Many didn't trust it.
Magnus' reputation wasn't one of kindness.
Sonny would try to change that.
Eventually, when they felt better, the Pirates could help the former captives to get a new life, safe from Technoid, or they could join the fight.
Sonny also thought of the football team.
He wasn't sure if he could trust Bernie, who claimed that Sonny didn't know what he was doing.
He could handle some grumbling, but anything more was disrespectful.
He decided to keep an eye on the other man.
Sonny knew some of his decisions were unpopular, but it was the best he could do to keep the most people happy and safe.
It worked for some, but not for all.
Sonny watched as some of the more injured captives were taken to a shelter.
Another Pirate, Cole, ran it like a hotel, so Technoid's attention wouldn't be on it too much.
It was the safest place to keep refugees.
Sonny also suspected that Bleylock would be furious when he learned about this.
He'd shuffle other prisoners around.
Sonny needed more information that they currently didn't have.
They'd have to have access to some pretty secure servers.
Corso would disagree.
Sonny wouldn't inform him of this.
Sonny was snapped out of his thoughts as he saw Ken and the others getting ready to head to the shelter.
"If you want to be part of the Pirates, our doors are open. We ain't much, but we can promise we're better then your old employee." Sonny tried.
Ken nodded, a faint smile on his face.
"Doesn't look like I can just return home. That's where they'd look first. And there's no talking to Maddox." Ken said.
Sonny nodded thoughtfully.
"He doesn't know. Bleylock knows what not to say." He said.
Ken nodded.
"You speak from experience Sonny? I know he hovered around you a lot." He said.
Sonny gritted his teeth.
"Bleylock is a spiteful man. Would you be safe going back home?" Sonny asked.
Ken shrugged.
"I don't know Sonny. With Bleylock in a position of power, we're all in danger. He seems to know everything. Promise me you'll be careful. He seems to have a special place in his heart for you." He said.
Sonny nodded.
"I know. And for everyone's safety, that's all I'm going to say." He said.
Ken nodded, and left with his colleagues.
His nerves were shot.
He needed someone else to talk to about this.
Maybe Sonny's bodyguard…
Corso was on a mission with Bennett regarding their prisoners since the rescue.
Meanwhile Sonny made sure the people would be alright.
Fact finding missions were usually boring and Corso didn't expect this one to be any different.
Someone named Bleylock was involved, and their previous work was mostly redacted, involving chemical weapon manufacturing.
What did Sonny have to do with all this?
Did he know about Bleylock's doings?
Or was he ignorant?
Would he hide something like that?
Corso didn't know.
But he was going to find out.
Not just for himself, but Sonny as well.
And after a few days, he noticed some things.
Sonny wanted to know some things from the scientists, considering Bleylock.
It felt almost like a fixation.
This bothered Corso when he went to the shelter with Bennett, to ask the refugees some questions.
Including Ken Shudder.
He knew Sonny from before.
Maybe he could shed some light on things.
"You're worried for him, aren't you?" Ken asked.
Corso looked at him.
"He's the boss. Of course I'm worried." He said.
Ken wasn't satisfied.
"If you really want to do protect him, you should know that Sonny has hated weapons ever since he got out of military service and into the sciences." He said.
"There is no record of him having done military service." Corso said.
Ken nodded.
"None of us have. That's the first thing they strike from our records. I've seen Sonny's before it was gone. He was a Pilot." He said.
Corso nodded.
That would explain the skills Sonny had.
"Who gave the order to pull him from the military and into Technoid's ranks?" He asked.
"Bleylock, probably. He saw the man's talent in Scientific research." Ken said.
Corso nodded.
"This Bleylock sounds like a threat. Can you tell me more about him? So I can protect Sonny better." He said.
Ken nodded thoughtfully.
"Not much, but what I do know is creepy. Apparently Sonny and Bleylock shared a room at their University? How that panned out, I don't know. Just make sure Sonny knows how to defend himself. Even with weapons, even if he doesn't like it." He said.
Corso nodded.
"Noted. Anything else?" He asked.
Ken sighed.
"Just don't let him go off alone. Bleylock will know what he did, and he will seek revenge. Sonny knows more than he lets on."
