Different Perspectives

Based off another labyficcer's creation about the consequences of impersonating Jareth too well on Halloween: Jareth is a man with a plan.

The delicate not-chime of my warning spell alerted me to exquisite possibility. So many impersonators lacked the right combination of elements - the physical approximation and timing were simple enough, of course. Dressing up as the Goblin King on Halloween was far more popular these days, thanks to the delightful cult following of Henson's movie.

But the movie certainly came with its downsides - now everyone and their mother seemed to know the right words. I should never have allowed Henson to put them in the script (my fault, I suppose, but he was so winsome about it all). I had to reorder time on a regular basis simply to accommodate all the dratted wishings, and it gave me a constant low-level headache.

But this year...well, there was the necessary latent magic and blissful naïveté, combined with the proper inclinations and timing.

I stretched out my tendrils of influence into the dreaming mind, nudging it just so. Not Sarah, my dear...why be little Sarah when you can be the king?

I felt the click of the subconscious decision and my laughter rang through the throne room.

Sweet freedom was coming.
