In the Dark (quote from Bring Me the Disco King)
Don't let me know when you're opening the door
Close me in the dark, let me disappear
Soon there'll be nothing left of me
Nothing left to release
Goddammit, where was that man? The omnipresent darkness was oppressive as hell, and there was only one way it was going to lift.
I caught a telltale thrum of magic curling beneath my feet over an open grate and squinted into the darkness. There he was, slumped far below against the wall, his head in his hands.
Figures.
After picking my way through countless false alarms, I finally found the door I was after, yanked it open, and poked my head in. "Exactly how long do you plan on pitching the kingdom into gloomy despair with you?"
He shrugged.
"Jareth, honey, we have people in the kingdom depending on us."
"What's the point? Everything will eventually crumble like it always does. Entropy is king, not me."
I walked over and sat down next to him. "The immortality is getting to you today, huh?"
His fingers slid between mine with a sudden, fierce possessiveness. "I can't lose you."
I sighed softly. My birthdays always brought this out in him, but it had grown to epic proportions lately. I guess it didn't help that I was finally starting to look older than him. "We have so much time still."
"Not long at all," he murmured.
"Hush now," I said, sliding my hand along his cheek. "We're here together now. So be here. With me."
His lips hovered a breath from mine. "I love you so damned much, Sarah mine."
"Ditto," I whispered as I pressed my mouth to his.
