Chapter 3: The Arrival
"We're coming," said the floating orb as it returns to Fredrick's hands then the whole building starts to light up from the inside and outside. The indent lines that run all over the building like veins start pulsating a purple light going from the bottom to the top. The pulses getting faster and faster every second to the point it seems the entire structure has completely lit up.
"W-what's going on?! What did that little ball do?" the werecat asks, as she and Fredrick as well as everyone outside stood still and watch as the strange structure comes to life. Even the ones who were getting very passionate with the ones they have pinned down couldn't help but watch too. The townsfolk were relieved for only they knew they are about to be saved. At the top of the building where all the indent purple lines ended, a massive source of light was building up, blinding most of the flying mamono, until it suddenly fires straight up into the sky. The ball of blinding light explodes among the lower hanging clouds and a very large, darkish purple, smoky circle appears. The mamono continues to watch the spectacle but several magic users are getting concerned about what it might be.
All focus is back on the active structure as its starts pulsating again and this time the energy at the top of the structure starts to expand below in form of an orange bubble. Jean and Fredrick see this energy bubble descending towards them. Fredrick does nothing while Jean makes a run for the door, but the door closes by itself trapping both of them.
"Hey let me out! LET ME OUT!" Jean yells out, pounding on the door, and notices the strange orange barrier mere feet away from her. She turns around to face it, thinking of what to do next. The barrier passes through Fredrick but when it makes psychical contact with Jean, "AH-!" she gets disintegrated. The whole building was now wrapped in a cocoon of energy until it started to expand outward quickly. Whenever the energy field passed through a normal person nothing happens but when it touches a mamono they get vaporized. The mamono ran for their lives away from the incoming barrier while the townsfolk ran towards it. Only the fastest or those who are further away from the strange building were able to make it to safety as the energy barrier stopped expanding and has form a dome over a couple of blocks of the town. Several people on the outside including some who were earlier caught by the invaders were able to run past the mamono bystanders and into the dome for protection. The enraged mamono whose husband have run away from them charged at the dome but were unable to break through so some of them started using their weapons to pierce or use magic to shatter it. Above them, the center of the anomaly was showing signs of movement which basically confirm what some of the spellcasters thoughted it was; A portal.
An object comes shooting out of the portal, it looking like a purple shooting star heading straight down towards the ground. It crashes by the edge of the energy barrier but strangely there was no sign of an impact, just a black smoke rising where it landed. Then another one exits the portal, then another, until a meteor shower of purple lights lands all over the town but not a single one has hit a building, the mamono, or the barrier. As the black smoke dissipates revealing a person dressed in black uniform clothing from head to toe with a very large metallic cylinder shape backpack and a black military-style cap. When the smoke finally clears, the person now standing up showing his face is partially covered with a black mask over his jaw. His skin color was like gray ash and the veins in his neck had faint pink light, finally his eyes. His eyes have black sclera with purple iris, a threatening stare came from them with an aroura of dread and doom.
The silences continued until a young Amazoness cheerfully shouted "He's mine!" She rushes toward him and leaps into the air with enthusiasm only a couple of meters away from him. The mysterious man showing no emotional reaction simply lifts his right arm towards her, and a small purple beam fires out of the palm of his hand. The beams hit her dead center of her chest where her heart is, boring a hole clean through then she falls face first into the dirt in front of the stranger's feet. She's dead and the strange man looks back at the group and then brings his left hand up pointing at them. The group shocked by what just happened to their friend with some of them now readying themselves for battle. Behind the man were four very large metal claw-like hands with chains on each one at the end rising on their own, coming out from the strange backpack and over his shoulder as they ignite in purple flames.
The man's eyes illuminate as he says, "Eliminate them." The words coming out of his were void of emotion, the group didn't have time to react as a barrage of purple beams came from the stranger. The group of eight was very quickly reduced to none and the stranger starts looking for other groups of invaders to destroy.
In the sky, those who can fly watch in horror as their fellow friends or relatives were being slaughtered with absolute efficiency and no mercy. Unaware above them a massive object is coming out of the portal that'll soon be conquering the sky. One of the flying mamono finally notices that there was something above them and yells out "What's that?" The others look up and were stunned to have not noticed such a massive object leaving the portal. It looks like a floating fortress in a shape of a very long boat and soon it showed it was armed as one for it starts shooting out a great many small projectiles. The projectiles seconds later turn around and heads towards the flying mamono, anyone who made contact with them exploded into bloody pieces. Now they are dodging for their lives and any who try to fly away from the battle soon smacked into a barrier. They're trapped.
Beatrice was in the center of it all, witnessing her plans fall into ruins and her entire expeditionary force being wipeout. Unaware that she is being targeted by an incoming projectile and didn't see it until she senses something approaching her at high speed. She turns around to see it, it being a couple of yards away from her still closing in, she throws up a magic barrier at the last second. The projectile hits her magic barrier unfortunately her barrier was weak as the force and shockwave had broken through sending her back towards the ground at dangerous speed. She crashes through someone's house and ironically fell unconscious in that person's bed.
Back on the ground, a small group is trying to escape the slaughter as they were heading towards the west gate, the one they've entered in the first place. Hearing the screams and pleas all around them, they know they've lost and will soon lose their own lives. The group composed of one Lizardman, two Minotaurs, an Ogre, and two Manticores who are sisters. As they continue running through the street, they stopped as they see a Lizardman running across in front of them from an alleyway with terror on her face. The terrified Lizardman sees the group, stops to turn to face them and is about to shout something to them when suddenly an explosion erupts in front of her. When the dust finally settles revealing a revolting scene, the lizardman was now in pieces as both her legs were shredded off her body and her blood painted around a crater where she once stood. Her upper half lay motionless with her lower right arm missing. The cause of her death soon revealed itself leaving the same alleyway she appeared from, it being a massive form of a man. He was the size of a giant and outfitted like a warship for he was carrying two massive cannons resting on top of his shoulders. Behind each of his wrists are two smaller cannons and the ones on the right arm were letting out a small puff of smoke. A single large cylinder-looking container strap to his back and a pair of blocks around his waist. He has a darken brown bold head with some sort of visor covering his eyes. The rest of his outfit was a button-up black trench coat, black pants, and black boots with metal outlines that had blood stains around them. He's now standing between them and their freedom beyond the gate.
The group is very uneasy at the sight of their adversary until the Ogre starts to charge at the giant man with her club held high. The silent giant does nothing until she jumps in the air, getting ready to club him in the head but sees his left shoulder mount cannon angle up towards her. Seeing she can't move out of the way, she brings her club down to shield herself from the incoming shot. The cannon fired a large bright purple light that shattered her stone club and pierces her body leaving a gaping hole as she falls to the ground dead.
"You'll pay for that!" screamed the Lizardman as she quickly dashes towards the mute man but not directly as seeing a frontal attack is suicidal so using her superior speed to flank him from behind in an attempt to strike him down. Seeing the giant is very slow at turning his body, sees a chance to end him in his blind spot, and she leaps into the air. As soon as she was in arm's reach of the giant, he unbelievable catches her by the throat in midair without having to face her. The Lizardman is shocked by both the lighting fast reaction of the giant and the situation she is now in. Sadly, she didn't have time to shake off her shock as the man closes his hand around her neck. A faint snapping sound could be heard followed by a sword hitting the ground. The giant releases his grip on the lifeless attacker as he still gazes at the four remaining invaders.
The two Minotaurs looked at each other and nodded for they decided to charge at him at the same time. One goes to his left side and the other to the right, hoping that man could only react to one of them. As the two close in, the man moves his left arm and aimed the twin cannons at the ground between him and the left flanking Minotaur. Firing the twin cannons at the same time resulted in the explosion sending lots of dust and dirt into the air blinding the left one. Next, the man quickly turns to his right as the right flanking Minotaur rushes towards him with her ax held high. The man sidesteps the vertical slash from her ax and grabs the hilt with his left hand and backhands the wielder in the face with the other. She loosens her grip on her ax as she briefly loses focus from the surprising strong hit. The man easily takes the ax away from her and proceeds to imbed it into her chest. The Minotaur falls to the ground paralyzed due to the fact the ax is made from Demonic Sliver. The man rise his right leg and puts his foot above the downed Minotaur's head. The Minotaur sees the giant's blood-stained heel and realizes what he's about to do, she screams, "AAAHHH"-CRUNCH. The other Minotaur regains her sight in time to see her best friend's head gets flattened by the man's foot. She becomes enraged at this man who just murdered her friend like she was some sort of bug.
"I'LL KILL YOU", She screams as she charges at him, unable to think about anything other than revenge. She goes in with a wide horizontal swing, the giant simply stands there because unknowingly to the Minotaur the man's hip weapons had finished charging up. Just before she can split him in two, the two hip weapons open fire with a spread of a total of eight pinkish-purple lasers, all-penetrating her torso, and the force pushes her back. She falls onto her back and starts losing consciousness as she quickly loses a large amount of blood. The man walks up to her as she coughs up blood as she tries to speak, "D-do it…you...b-bastard." The man points his right-arm-mounted cannons at her and fires a single very low-yield shot into her head, putting her out of her misery.
The group of six was now down to two Manticore sisters. The younger one is frozen in fear as she witnesses her friends being swiftly but brutally killed off while the older one formulates a plan to impair his movement to escape. The older one dashes forward in a zig-zag pattern shooting her paralyzing needles from her tail at him. She sees her needles hitting him, but they are bouncing off as if they were hitting a stone wall. She continues her attack while the man rises both his arms and then pauses. The older manticore is slightly confused by his respondence but decides to keep going. The man seemly has figured out where she was going to land next as he fires all his arm cannons at a specific spot, surprising the older manticore. The blast created a strong aftershock that abruptly redirected the mid-air manticore. She hits the ground hard, her body skipping and rolling around, her ears are ringing, and her vision is fussy as she looks up.
"SISTER!" screamed the younger manticore who just saw her sister being thrown around by the blast and more importantly where she stopped rolling. From the down manticore point of view, she slowly looks towards her sister who is screaming at her. Unable to properly hear any of her sister's warnings, and barely sees the absolute terrified expression on her face. The older sister tries to think straight but darkness suddenly takes her as the man's foot crushes her head into the ground. Blood and brain matter splashes around the giant's foot while the rest of her body twitches and flinches wildly.
"NOOOOOOO!" screams the younger manticore as she is now the last one that's still alive. Seeing her friends, her sisters-in-arm and now her own sister get slaughtered was too much for her, she has a complete mental breakdown while barely saying, "Sister, sister." The man walks up to the broken girl and reaches out with his right hand toward her neck.
"Hold up Arnold." a mysterious voice behind the giant orders as he was mere inches away from crushing the girl's neck.
It was the one who first appeared from the portal and gave the order for the mamono army to be annihilated. The commanding figure walks up to Arnold and looks down on the young, weeping manticore, "Let's start taking the remaining invaders alive for questioning." The mysterious officer raises his right arm and fires a barely visible beam of energy at the girl, causing her to fall asleep. The commanding officer orders his forces to start securing the remaining invading survivors since the battle is basically over and they've won.
In the end, the two hundred mamono horde was reduced to twenty-five survivors as this new force starts collecting the ones who were knocked unconscious, finding the wounded who were trying to hide and the very few who lay down their weapons and surrendered. The flying mamono whose superb skills in flight kept them alive remained as they slowly descend to the ground before collapsing from fatigue as they also surrendered.
The mamono have lost and their fate is now in the hands of these emotionless dark warriors.
