Chapter 5 Course of action
A few days have passed since the mamono attack and with the help of the Dark Guard, the violated town has been fully repaired and the populace's mood has returned to normal or close to. The majority of the Dark Guard have returned to the ship but left a small token force in case of another surprise mamono attack. Inside the ship the Commander has been waiting on the results from both the Doctor and Caesar's investigations in order to launch a counter-invasion, thus the Dark Guard has been on standby until...
"I found it!" the Doctor proclaims.
"You've found the coordinates?" the Commander asks to which the Doctor replies "Yes, by following their unique energy back to their world. Here they are" Dexter hands over the pad that has the dimension coordinates to Commander.
"Good work Doctor, we can now begin our counter-attack and save what's left of the humanity of that world." the Commander states. He walks to a nearby console and pushes a button then says, "Merlin are the probes ready?" He gets a quick reply, "Yes, they can be launched at any time!"
"Good, we're going to use them now. Here are the coordinates to their dimension and fire when ready." Commander orders as he types in the coordinates.
"Yes sir!" Merlin quickly says.
Commander turns back to Dexter and asks, "Doctor have you learned anything else about them?"
"Yes, their reproduction system for some reason can't make viable male offspring of either species. Only daughters of the mother side and not human daughter which only confirms our early intel about them." Doctor replies then ask, "Do you have a plan in terms of investigating further into their world?"
"Yes, but first we'll send the probes in to confirm that is indeed the Mamono homeworld, then we'll send teams of infiltrators into the human settlements to gather intel on the current situation and state of humanity. Later actions will be based on the information given by said teams. Lastly, the teams are to maintain a low profile so no use of our powers or technology unless it's absolutely necessary." The Commander finishes explaining his plan to the Doctor.
"I see, how many teams are you sending in?' the Doctor asks.
"For now, between one to five teams depending on what the probes finds." The commander answers. A few moments later the probes launched from the ship and into the portal that'll have the probes cross over to the target world. Back on the bridge, everyone is looking at the blank main view screen waiting for the video feed from the probes to see what the other world looks like. Seconds later the screen begins to lighten up in a static blur, then slowly a clear view showing the multiple viewpoints from ten probes. All the probes showing a huge forest with an occasional meadow or open spot until one probe flew towards what looked like a settlement of some kind. When the probe reaches the settlement, the scenes it was shown to be abandoned with most of the structures heavily damaged if not completely fallen down. With no signs of life below the probe moves on in the same direction.
Back on the bridge, the Commander asks, "Did the probe send the coordinates of that abandoned settlement?"
One of the officers at their station replies, "Yes, site mapped out for navigation use."
"Good, once the probes finish surveying the surrounding area, we'll go through the portal and head to that location." The Commander explains. "That'll be either a temporary setup base or a long-term forward command base for the upcoming operations.
"Sir probe four has found a populated city in the northwest direction from the portal, about ten miles away." another officer yells out.
"Have the probe increase its height! I don't want the occupants of the city seeing the probe." The Commander ordered. "Yes sir." The probe ascends while still closing on the city, the probe sensors started showing the visual view of the wall that goes around the city to the bridge. Once the probe is directly over the city, it starts hovering in place as everyone starts to examine what's inside. "Looks quite populated, easily over a thousand people there," Commander comments aloud.
"Detecting no Demonic Energy in and around the city, Sir." an officer reports.
"Very good, and the other/Demonic energy detected by probe five!" the same officer shouts cutting off the Commander. They all turn to another monitor to see a campsite full of monsters with easily over a hundred of them.
"What is the location of that Mamono army and any surrounding sites near them?" Commander asks already knowing this Mamono army will need to be dealt with soon.
"That Mamono group is about seven miles away from the city probe four found and according to probe five, there are several smaller campsites nearby that army. All of them Mamono" The office finishes reading the probe data.
"That's a lot of them and close to that city, it must be their next target." Commander guesses.
"Shall we destroy them before they get there?" a cheerful feminine voice asks. The commander looks over to see a woman dressed in black uniform and armored pants with bladed edge black boots, lastly, she wears a black military-style cap. Her shimmer purple eyes looked directly at the commander eagerly waiting for an answer.
"Not yet Mary but we will watch them until we are ready to make our move or if they attack that city first" Commander replies which Mary makes an unsatisfied expression. She walks up to the commander and looks at the monitor and says, "This world is very interesting and a very target-rich environment from what I readied in the reports." A moment of pause as they both look at the monitor seeing the wide range of mamono standing around until Mary asks, "so is it true the humans here are about to kick the bucket?"
The commander simply replies, "Yes."
"Well, we can't let that happen, now can we?" knowing full well what the commander is going to say next.
"Not if we can do something about or if these people of the Order wish to be a part of the Dark Guard."
"I figured you would say something like that." she says to which the Commander immediately says, "Since their problem has now become our problem when these Mamono started invading one of our worlds."
"And they paid for that mistake with their lives, well almost all of them. Want do you want to do with the remaining prisoners? Want me to finish them off or?" She asks. The commander remained silent for a moment remembering the young crying manticore and finally speaks, "We'll let them live a while longer and see if an opportunity arises to use them."
"Very well." After that, she leaves the bridge.
"Sir, several probes have found a few more settlements north, south, and east of the same city, and the probes that are west of the city have detected some demonic energy spots. The spots seem to be moving towards the monster army." The first officer reported. 'Looks like we portal into the middle of the next major battle.' the commander thinks to himself.
"Helm take us through the portal then active the cloak once were out. Our destination is that settlement ruins." The Commander orders and as the ship travels towards the portal, the townspeople below wave and howler at them while their comrades simply watch them enter the portal. The mamono and the humans of that world are unaware of the reckoning that is coming with the death and destruction that'll follow in their wake.
