Chapter 9 A Cruel Mercy

Mary Looks at both Gin and Anna as they were overcome with sadness and exhaustion they were now at Carla's complete mercy.

"Please spare us, you've won and destroyed my pack. Let us leave and you'll never see us again." Anna pleads with Mary.

"If I let you leave, you'll no doubt create problems for other people as you'll no doubt try to rebuild your pack, hmmm?" Mary looks down on Anna with disappointment. "Also didn't I make myself clear when I answered your question about me killing you all?"

"PLEASE Carla let us go!" Anna desperately shouts. Mary sighs seeing that Anna can no longer continue fighting and for Gin, she is crippled and couldn't hurt a fly. Mary thinks for a moment as all eyes were on her until…

"Alright, I'll spare both of you." Mary calmly states for all to hear.

"Carla you can't be serious, you yourself said they are still a problem!" Mark exclaims aloud with the other three also saying similar things.

Mary turns to them and says, "My reasoning is one; that werewolf over there (Mary pointing to Gin) is crippled and poses no threat to anyone." Gin exhales as she feels a mixture of relief and shame at Carla's words. "Two; I have a special purpose for her so she gets to live." The feeling of relief and shame just changed to fear.

Mary looks back down at Anna and says, "As for you dear Anna, I'll spare you the shame (Mary rises her heel with only the tips of her toes still on Anna's chest) of the Alpha being beaten by a mere human by telling everyone that you fought valiantly." Anna exhaled a sigh of relief and relaxed her body finally.

"AND DIED QUICKLY!" Anna shot open her eyes in disbelief as Mary slams her heel down on Anna and the sounds of breaking bones erupted. Anna begins to vomit blood then drowning in her blood as Mary lifts her heel again. Anna latches her left hand onto Mary's ankle while her right hand is placed on her own throat.

"STOP IT! STOP! PLEASE STOP" Gin screams at Mary. The four adventurers couldn't believe the scene they are witnessing, unable to process Carla's behavior or protest against her actions. Gurgling sounds came from Anna as her mouth was being filled with blood, unable to speak or cough properly. Mary brings down her heel one more time completely collapsing her ribcage, Anna's lungs are punctured and flattened and her heart slowly stops. Anna gurgles a little longer until she stops and her left-hand falls to the ground.

"NNOOO!" Gin cries out, heavy sobs can be heard from her, "YOU MONSTER!"

Mary steps away from Anna's body as she walks towards her mace while ignoring Gin trying to swipe at her legs. Once she has her mace in hand, she starts walking to the cave.

"PLEASE STOP, they haven't done anything to anyone! CARLA!" Gin yells out as she crawls as fast as she can. "Didn't kill them please." Gin quickly looks to the four adventurers and yells, "Please I beg of you didn't hurt them, please in the Demon Lord's name DON'T!" Gin places her paws together as if she is praying as she begs them.

"I'm sorry, but we have our quest to fill out. That your pack needs to be taken care of so…" Edward said. He walks to Gin, sword in hand, closing the striking distance until, "I'll make this quick, I promise."

"Edward please leave her alone." The group turns to see Carla looking at them.

"But Carla, the quest said/I know what quest said but I promise the cripple werewolf she'll live because I have a special role for her to play" Mary continues, "Besides if she does try to run away, she won't get far. Now let's finish up here before it gets dark." Mary resumes her walk to the cave and the others look back down on Gin as she sobs in her hands for she had given up on convincing Carla. The four adventurers do not want to get on Carla's bad side as they saw how she deals with her enemies cruelly so they too shall spare the cripple.

As the five get closer to the cave entrance they see two armed males; one visible older than the other and an adolescent werewolf in the middle taking a defensive stance, Mary eyes the two males until the older man speaks, "How dare you do this to our love ones you bitch, we've never seen anyone be so heartless.

Mary speaks back, "I'm only delivering back for what they have done to me in the past."

The other man speaks up, "Our pack hasn't killed anyone, ever!"

"And yet they have no problem taking people against their will to become either a breeding partner or turn into one of them." Mary retorts and continues, "All the affected families are missing their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers. To never see them again and worse those taken lose the desire to return to their original families."

The older man says, "They wouldn't be accepted by The Order and would be killed on sight and us with them."

"And because of that you'll just completely abandon your original family and stay with your abductor and create a new generation of kidnappers? How about you stop thinking with your dick and realize that your real family NEEDS YOU!" The men backup from Mary suddenly shouting at the end while the young werewolf steps up.

"I love my father and we are his family, beside you humans cheat on one another and never show affection to each other."

Mary takes a step forward to the young one and in turn, the werewolf backs up maintaining the same distance between the two as Mary speaks, "Not all humans cheat or lie with their partners, for some of them do find true love without brainwashing them into loving someone unlike you Mamonos do." Mary starts entering the cave with the other four a foot behind her while the remaining combative pack holds their ground.

"Now will you surrender or do I need to send you all to the afterlife?" Mary asks the question while reading her mace. The werewolf wasn't intimidated by Mary's large mace but the two men were as their hands started to shake. "Very well then."

Mary slams her mace down upon the young werewolf as the werewolf steps back before the mace could hit her. The four adventurers rushed pasted Mary and engaged the two men but they didn't put up much of a fight as they were more likely farmers than warriors. They were quickly taken down while the teen wolf got launched back by Mary kicking her in the stomach to the back wall. The young werewolf seeing her father and other man killed by the adventurers takes off running deeper into the cave.

The four adventures chased after her but Mary remain standing as she examines the room and notices a nearly well-blended room on the left side of the cave. Mary readies her mace and walks over there, ready to strike if it's a trap but as soon she turns the corner.

"Grrr." Mary sees three very young werewolf children; One is a baby, another seems to be two or three years old, and the last one seemed to be six or seven. The oldest one of the three holding the youngest one while the middle one was hiding behind the oldest. Mary drops her mace to the ground and takes a step forward.

"GRRrr." The oldest one growls again but clearly shows she is scared out of her skin with the two-year-old burying her head into the eldest's back. Mary moves her right hand to one of her back pockets while she gets down on one knee.

She looks at the oldest one and says in a calm but firm voice, "Don't make me come after you as I did to your pack, for I won't spare you a second time if you should start causing trouble for us humans." Her right-hand reveals a small pink marble and she gently rolls it to the three. The child looks at it rolling to her until it touches one of her toes then all three children are engulfed in a flash of pink light. After the flash, all three children were gone and Mary stands back up, grabs her mace, and walks out of the room to go find her party. Fortunately, she didn't have to walk as she sees them coming back out of the tunnel they entered to.

She asks, "Did that werewolf escape?"

Mark first to answer, "We got her but why didn't you help Carla?"

"There a room behind me that you four didn't notice. It is empty." Mary points behind herself with her right thumb to said room.

"What?!" Mark goes around Mary to see for himself while the other three talked to Mary.

"We didn't have to go after her far since these caves aren't very extensive so she ran into a dead end. Frank quickly decapitate her after she made a final dash at us to escape." Edward explains what had happened. Mark comes back and says, "It's true, the room is empty."

They all decide to leave and as soon they exit the cave, "Please just end me, you have taken everything from me!" The crippled werewolf crawls her way back, her eyes red from all the crying and pain.

"No, you still have a part to play," Mary says as she goes around her. The four adventurers looking at a broken werewolf with mixed emotions. Sarah and Edward feel sympathy for her, Frank was all ready to be done with it, and Mark was curious about a part she was in.

"What part is so important for her to be spared, Carla?" Mark asks.

Mary stops, slightly turns her head enough to show a smug grin, and says, "She is going to be my herald so when any monster comes here because of the smell of blood or by mere chance. She'll tell them what has happened here and how I, Carla Johnson nearly killed them all single-handedly. And that I look forward to meeting all of the forest monsters like I met this pack." Mary resumes her walk back to the city.

Gin speaks weakly but enough for the four adventurers to hear her, "You're the monster."

The adventurers started walking to the city as the sun was beginning to set then soon it'll be night. As they walked back to the city but not as one group, the four were behind Mary, Frank speaks up, "Carla we need to talk."

Mary stops and turns to face the group and asks, "Talk about what?"

Frank says, "Two things, one; your behavior was completely unacceptable, it was reckless and insanely bloodthirsty. Second, you are no hero not only you were able to hold out on your own but nearly defeated that entire pack by yourself. So, who are you and how are you so powerful?"

Mary ponders for a moment then replies, "I'm someone who'd been wronged by them, someone who has lost everything except my rage and hatred because of them. Hell has no fury than a woman scorned, for I'm the grim reaper's bride, who excels at delivering death. Even though I'm not a hero but there are other ways of gaining power and my fury gives me mine. I'll never stop until they feel what I felt that day then they'll understand the kind of monsters they truly are. Does that answer your question, Frank?"

Frank nods his head though his expression seems to be disrupted but Edward speaks up, "Carla, are you a monster?"

She simply smiles, "If you knew what I've done to those who have harmed the innocent and pure then you'll say I'm a monster towards evil. If I'm some lusty crazy monster then no."

"Then why do you behave like you are evil?" Sarah quickly asks.

"There are some people like me who just let their inner demons let loose but if you're my friend then you'll have nothing to worry about from me. Now anything else?" Mary quickly focuses on each one of them. They all shake their heads so they resume their travel back to the city. No more words were said as they all went back to the city but still not as a single group.

The next chapter I'm going to upload is going to be the Rise of the Gear so Dark Interference will take a back seat for now.
