Chapter 3: The Serpent

Hey there guys, gals, and binary pals. Tardispilot297 here bringing you a brand new chapter of Godzilla: New Dawn. As usual I don't own anything within this story except the characters I create.

Godzilla is and will continue to be the property of Toho, Tri-star & Legendary. Please support the official release.

That said, let's get this chapter going. Hope you all enjoy it.

It had been about two days since Goji and Jaime began traveling up north together. Things were a bit rocky between the two of them at first with Jaime constantly asking Goji questions about himself and talking about whatever came to her mind. Goji would occasionally tell her to stop talking but she would eventually start back up again.

And when that wasn't an issue there was Jaime constantly looking through Goji's bag without permission. While she never took anything, Goji still got annoyed by her doing it. Then there were the nights when they would stop someplace to rest and camp. Goji had made it perfectly clear that he preferred to sleep by himself only to wake up the next morning to find Jaime lying asleep next to him.

After a few hours of driving Jaime started groaning and asking how much longer it'll take to get to their destination.

Goji: Well we've still got a long way to go. Might take a few weeks.

Jaime: Seriously? Isn't there a faster way to get there?

Goji: Not unless you have a plane hidden in that pack of yours.

Jaime slumped into her seat with another groan. After a minute she started to fidget a bit, catching Goji's attention out of the corner of his eye.

Goji: What's the matter now?

Jaime: I have to go to the bathroom.

Goji let out a sigh and pulled the truck over to the side of the road before stopping. Jaime got out of the truck and started running off to find a spot to go. Goji got out as well and yelled out to her.

Goji: Ok that's far enough.

Jaime: I'm not going in front of you!

Goji: Well then you just stay there and I'll turn around.

Jaime: Are you crazy? I can't trust you! You'll look!

Goji: I'm not gonna look, just stay where I can see you!

Jaime: That's looking!

Goji was about to argue only to let out a long sigh and lean against the side of the truck. He looked around paying close attention to the surrounding area. Jaime meanwhile walked down a small hill checking to make sure that she was out of Goji's sight before getting ready to lower her shorts.

As she was doing so she failed to notice something creeping up on her from the right side of her. She was about to pull down both her shorts and her underwear when suddenly something jumped up at her causing her to scream and fall back on the ground just in time to see Goji appear bringing down his machete in a stabbing motion penetrating the shell of her attacker.

Jaime just sat there shaking as she looked to see the large scorpion the size of a dog slowly dying and going completely limp. Once it stopped moving Goji placed his foot against it and pulled the machete out of its body with the blade covered in blue blood. Goji looked over at Jaime giving her a serious look.

Goji: I told you to stay where I can see you.

Jaime just sat there staring at the scorpion before looking up at him as her body continued to shake. She sat there speechless until she slowly looked down at her shorts where a large dark stain was starting to form in the middle.

After a quick change of clothes they were soon back on the road with the two of them sitting quietly with neither one of them saying a single word to each other. Jaime looked like she wanted to say something once or twice but everytime she just changed her mind and continued to sit quietly looking out the window. As Evening was drawing near they stopped close to a nearby barn. Goji reached to the back seat and grabbed the shotgun before stepping out. He looked over at Jaime before closing the door.

Goji: Stay here. I'll be right back.

Goji proceeded to walk slowly towards the barn with the shotgun raised and ready to fire. He stopped at the barn doors and leaned in listening for anything inside. He reached his left hand to open the door and grabbed the handle to start pulling it open. He then went inside to see if everything was clear. After a few minutes he came out to signal to Jaime that it was safe to come into the barn.

They unpacked the truck and sat down to eat with a lantern Goji had found illuminating the inside of the barn. They each sat on a bale of hay while eating a can of beans. Jaime looked around the inside of the barn with curiosity.

Jaime: Who do you think used to live here?

Goji: Probably belonged to some old farmer.

Jaime: What do you think happened to him?

Goji: They either left or they're dead.

Jaime sat silently eating another spoonful of beans.

Jaime: Hey I never did thank you for saving me earlier. Guess that's three I owe you now. *chuckle*

Goji just sat silently scooping the last bit of beans out of the can and into his mouth. He placed the empty can on the ground next to him and stood up.

Goji: Try to get some sleep. We'll be heading out in the morning.

Goji grabbed the shotgun and walked over to the barn door to stand watch. Jaime finished eating and started laying out her blanket on the ground to go to sleep. Or at least she tried to but as she laid down she glanced over at Goji standing in the doorway. She then started to think back to when she saw his back beginning to glow before he unleashed his destructive attack on Eddie back at the town.

Which then led to her remembering when Goji was being tended to and saw what was underneath his shirt. Along his spine were small protrusions poking out of his back like small spikes. His skin also showed signs of small patches of grey scales forming on his body. Particularly around his chest and neck. When her hands made contact with his bare skin to help with the bandages it almost felt like she was touching hot coals. It was the first time she actually felt anything when causing a KK to change.

Jaime looked at her hands. And while there wasn't any permanent damage she could still see the red spots on her fingers where she touched his skin. She rubbed them together for a bit inciting a small uncomfortable numbing sensation. She looked back at Goji who continued to stand guard until he put on his headphones and pulled out his walkman to listen to some music.

She watched him sit down on a nearby hay bale and just look up at the night sky. He slowly started to tap his foot to the beat of the music. The rhythmic sound helped her to relax a little bit and begin closing her eyes letting sleep finally take her.

*The Weight by Grateful Dead playing

Goji sat against the door with the shotgun in his lap. While he knew that sleeping outside was risky he always enjoyed sleeping under the stars. In a few ways it helped him forget about the harsh reality of the world they lived in. He stared up at the stars feeling a sense of peace and temporary tranquility. It was almost hard to believe that it was all supposedly going to end in several months.

Goji looked back inside the barn to check on Jaime and noticed that she was tossing a bit in her sleep. Goji removed his headphones and paid closer attention to her movements. Based on her facial expressions he figured she was having a nightmare. He looked at her for a few moments before placing the shotgun next to the hay bale and stood up to walk over to her. He knelt down and carefully placed the headphones over her ears and adjusted the volume before resuming the song.

It took a little bit before Jaime started to relax a little and become more peaceful. Goji looked at her for a minute and used his hand to gently brush some of her hair off her face. He stood back up and went over to close the barn doors. He stopped halfway and started looking around at the hills not too far away. He kept close attention on one of them while slowly reaching his hand behind his back to grab the pistol stashed in the back of his pants.

A few moments later a vulture landed behind the hill causing him to relax a little and continue closing the barn doors. He walked over to the lantern and knelt down to dim the light.

Back outside behind the hill a few vultures were picking at an animal carcass with an arrow sticking out of its side. A few feet away was the woman laying face down against the hill with her bow laying next to her.

She slowly crawled up to peek over at the barn. Once the light went out she crawled back down and stood up picking her bow up off the ground. She walked over to the carcass waving the vultures away to retrieve her arrow. She walked over to the small tent near her jeep. She sat down by the small fire and removed the veil covering her face.

She let out a short breath and placed her bow and arrow quiver next to her. She then looked at the fire with almost hypnotic fascination. It made her think back to when Goji looked right at her as he was closing the doors. The moment she saw his eyes she felt almost an icy chill go through her entire body. It was then she finally noticed that her hand was slightly shaking at the thought of his fiery gaze.

She grabbed it to stop it from shaking. It had been a long time since she had experienced anything close to fear. So why was it that seeing that man's gaze frightened her so much? What would've happened if she had not used her bow to shoot that animal and attracted the vultures? The moment that thought entered her mind she shook it off immediately and took a few deep breaths.

She had been tracking the two of them for the past few days since they left the town. She watched them every night waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And tonight she had finally decided to make her move and she hesitated. She hid behind the hill and acted on impulse to keep from being discovered like a frightened little girl.

When her hands started to shake again it was in anger instead of fear. She then swore with determination in her eyes and through gritted teeth that tomorrow she would no longer hesitate. That before the sun set on the next day she would kill both that man and the child.

The next morning started out grey and cold as Goji woke up to find Jaime where he last saw her. For the first time she was sleeping soundly away from him. He stood up and opened up the doors to let the sun light in, being careful not to wake her. He walked out to the truck to retrieve his bow from the back seat.

Sometime later Jaime was startled awake by the sound of something dropping loudly on the floor near her. She sat up causing the headphones to fall into her lap surprising her more.

Goji: Careful with those! I went through alot of trouble to find a pair that would fit.

Jaime looked over at Goji who was in the middle of plucking the feathers off a vulture like a chicken. She picked up the headphones and placed them on the walkman next to her. She looked back at Goji.

Jaime: What is that?

Goji: Breakfast.

Jaime: You're kidding?

Goji stopped what he was doing and gave her a look.

Jaime: Ok you're not kidding.

He got back to his task as Jaime stretched out her arms and stood up twisting out the knots in her back. She let out a big yawn. And reached down to pick up the walkman and walked over to Goji where she held it out to him.

Jaime: Thanks by the way. I can't remember the last time I slept that good.

Goji stopped what he was doing and reached his hand out to take it from her. Only to hand her the partially plucked vulture. She looked at him confused. Goji just looked back at her gesturing to the bird in his hand. She stood there a minute before taking the bird.

Goji: I think it's time you learned a few things.

A few hours after eating they were back on the road heading through some woodlands. The skies continued to be filled with grey clouds as they stopped in the middle of a clearing. Jaime looked around confused before Goji stepped out of the truck, pack in hand.

Goji: Come on. Grab your stuff.

Jaime reached back to grab her backpack and stepped out of the truck to follow him into the woods.

Jaime: So what are we doing right now?

Goji: If you're going to be traveling up north, you have to learn a few basic survival skills.

Jaime: Uh, I'm pretty sure I've survived pretty well already.

Goji: Well in that case consider this a refresher course.

Jaime: What course?

Goji pushed some bushes aside to reveal a nearby stream. He gestured for Jaime to follow as he walked over to the stream. She walked up to him as he placed his pack on the ground. He gestured for her to do the same.

Goji: Now here's where the refresher course begins, With you catching us lunch.

Jaime: I'm sorry what?

Goji: Don't tell me you never fished before.

Jaime: Well my Dad did teach me a little.

Goji: Good.

He reached into his pack to take out a spool of wire and handed it to her. She looked at it in her hands as he pulled out his machete to use it to chop off a branch from a nearby tree. He walked back over to Jaime and put his machete back in his pack.

Goji: Hand me that wire.

Jaime gave the spool back to him which he started to unravel before breaking it at a certain length. He put the rest in his pocket and tied the wire to the branch. He took the other end and wrapped a piece of leftover vulture meat with it. He handed the branch over to Jaime. She took the branch and watched as the bait dangled in the air.

Goji: Now try casting your line.

Jaime leaned the branch back before quickly flicking it back forward causing the bait to fly through the air and land in the water. Jaime held the branch in both hands and paid attention to the line. Goji stood next to her looking over her stance, reaching over to adjust it just a little.

Goji: Ok, not bad. Now while you're catching lunch I'll go gather some wood for the fire.

He picked up his pack and walked back through the bushes. Jaime continued to stand there keeping a close eye on the line in the water. The bait swayed a bit in the stream. Jaime stood quietly humming a tune to herself. Suddenly the line started to tug indicating that she'd gotten a bite.

Jaime: Goji! Hey Goji I got one!

She tugged furiously trying to pull the fish out of the water. The line pulled back just as hard. Jaime kept both hands firmly on the branch and pulled back hard. She fell backward onto the ground with a large fish flopping around in her lap. Jaime's face brightened up with an excited smile as she heard footsteps coming up behind her. She got back on her feet holding the fish with both hands.

Jaime: Get a load of this Goji. I caught a really big-

As Jaime turned around instead of seeing Goji she saw a woman standing there ready to strike her with a sword. Jaime gasped before quickly throwing the fish at the woman causing her to miss her strike just barely, only leaving a cut on her left arm. Jaime cried out falling to the ground gripping her bleeding arm.

Jaime looked at her wound before looking back up at her attacker. The woman stood there with her veil covering her face and looking down at Jaime with her hood barely covering her eyes. She could see the fear in Jaime's eyes and a part of her felt a temporary feeling of guilt.

Woman: Nothing personal, kid.

The woman raised her sword and brought it down to finish the job. Only for her blade to be blocked with a machete wielded by Goji who proceeded to slowly push the sword back as he glared into the woman's eyes. Eventually he was able to push her back and turn to Jaime.

Goji: JAIME, RUN BACK TO THE TRUCK!

Jaime wasted no time getting back up and making a run for it through the bushes. The woman tried to chase after her only to quickly block an attack from Goji with his machete. The two clashed at each other with their weapons, both trying to gain the advantage over their opponents.

Their blades collided again with Goji pushing the woman down forcing her on her knees. The woman struggled under the pressure until she twisted the handle of her sword in two separate directions. This caused the sword to split into two separate weapons. She swung the second sword upward, slashing Goji's cheek as he leaned back to dodge.

This gave her the chance to land a kick to his stomach, sending him back. He staggered a little and ducked his head just in time to dodge another sword swipe. He straightened up ready to counter only to have some dirt thrown into his face. As he was blinded the woman leaped up into the trees to chase after Jaime.

Jaime ran through the woods trying to find the truck. In her panicked state she was having trouble remembering where exactly the truck was. And as if that weren't enough a heavy rain was starting to fall making her search that more difficult. She ran past another tree and tripped over some roots falling into the mud. As she got back up she just barely missed the woman's sword slash at her from above. Jaime screamed and desperately ran off in a different direction.

The woman pursued her as they ran through the woods. A flash of lightning shot across the sky above them as the woman closed in on Jaime. She was just within striking distance when Goji suddenly jumped toward her out of nowhere and tackled her, pushing her and Jaime down a slope of mud. As the three of them tumbled and slid to the bottom the woman's hood and cloak were yanked off revealing white hair and butterfly-like wings on her back.

They hit the bottom landing into puddles of mud. Jaime started to get up only to have two swords placed at her neck from behind. The woman knelt there ready to slit her throat. Goji stood across ready to fight only to stop seeing Jaime at the woman's mercy. Goji and the woman glared at each other as if daring the other to make a move. Both looked straight into the others eyes as the rain continued to fall around them.

The sounds of the rain were almost deafening as the two of them stood their ground. Jaime felt it almost difficult to breathe as the woman's blades edged closer to her throat. Goji held his machete up as if ready to throw it. Neither one of them refused to back down until a loud hissing sound grabbed everyone's attention.

They all looked over to find to their shock and horror that not too far away was a massive nest of snakes with most of them ranging in sizes from coyotes to grizzly bears. Everyone stood frozen unable to move for fear that the slightest sound or quick movement would cause this living pile of death to engulf them. Jaime glanced around and spotted a clear path behind Goji they could use to escape.

Jaime: Psst.

Goji and the woman looked at Jaime who mouthed her discovery to each of them gesturing with her head. Goji and the woman looked at each other contemplating their next move. Goji then slowly put away his machete over his shoulder and started signing to the woman, surprising her and confusing Jaime.

Goji: Alright look, obviously this isn't the best kind of situation for either of us to be in.

The woman shook her head in agreement.

Goji: Now the way I see it we have two choices, we can either continue to try and kill each other with the winner ending up as possible snake food. Or we set aside our differences temporarily and work together to not end up as possible snake food.

The woman considered this proposal very carefully.

Goji: So how about it? Truce for now and continue to kill each other later?

The woman looked at the snake nest and then went back to Goji. After a moment she nodded in agreement. Jaime, still confused, felt the swords leaving her throat. Before she could let out a breath of relief her mouth was quickly covered with the woman's hand. They both looked at the snake nest which showed no signs of reaction. The woman then leaned in close to whisper into her ear.

Woman: Don't make a sound or any sudden moves. I'm going to stand up and when I do take my hand, stand up slowly, and we'll move towards your friend. Got it?

Jaime slowly nodded her head. The woman removed her hand and carefully stood up off the ground before holding out her hand to Jaime. Once she took it the woman slowly lifted her out of the mud back onto her feet. The two of them started to slowly walk over to Goji while paying close attention not to rile up the nest. The three of them then stepped slowly toward the pathway out.

After a few careful steps they immediately went into a fast run further into the forest. They kept that pace for a few minutes before finally stopping to see whether or not they were being chased. With no pursuers in sight the three of them each let out a short breath and relaxed a little.

Jaime: Nothing like running for your life to get the heart pumping huh? Hehehe.

Jaime's little joke earned a small chuckle from Goji while the woman let a small smile creep onto her face. The calm moment was soon interrupted by the sound of a loud roar coming from behind them. They turned just in time to see a large wave of water coming right towards them. What scared them more however was the mass of snakes mixed in with the tree trunks and branches.

Goji: RUN!

At Goji's command they all started running trying to stay ahead of the wave of death. They each ran as fast as their legs could carry them. The woman tried to use her wings to fly off but they were too covered with mud to lift her off the ground. Jaime felt something land on her shoulders and curl around her neck. She screamed when she saw the snake bear it's fangs at her until Goji grabbed it's head and pulled it off of her and tossed it away.

They had made it a few more feet before being overtaken by the flash flood. A bright flash of lightning lit up the water surface showing the silhouettes of each of them floating under the raging current. Jaime swam up and burst out of the water gasping for air. She grabbed hold of a log and tried to pull herself up onto it for dear life. She felt a push come up from under her, helping her onto the log.

She looked back to see Goji's head sticking out of the water. He was then quickly pulled back under by his leg. Jaime held her hand out as if to try and pull him back up.

Jaime: Goji!

Back under Goji struggled with the large snake wrapped around his leg trying to bite into his flesh. He grabbed a hold of the handle of his machete and used it to hack the snake's head off. He was about to swim back up when he saw the woman nearby using her own swords to hack away at a few snakes herself.

Before he could do anything else a large tree collided with his face dragging him further down into the depths. The woman slashed another snake with her sword and started to swim back up to the surface. As she did so she failed to notice the large shadow closing in on her. Her head burst up gasping for air. She quickly looked around until she spotted Jaime on the log. Before she could swim after her something large burst up out of the water behind her.

She turned around to see a large dragon-like serpent baring its fangs in a loud roar. It dived its head down toward her prompting her to dive back under the water. She swam quickly to avoid the serpent's jaws trying to swallow her whole. She turned around to face it head on ready to slash at it with her swords. Instead the serpent's face was stabbed by Goji using a tree trunk as an improvised spear. The serpent shrieked as blood gushed from the side of its face filling the water.

Goji and the woman looked at each other and until the serpent charged at Goji with it's mouth open. Goji grabbed hold of its fangs while planting his feet against its lower jaw. He struggled to keep it from closing its mouth and swallowing him. Suddenly it roared letting him go. Goji saw why due to the woman having plunged her swords into one of its eyes.

Goji took the opportunity to swim up to the surface back to Jaime. He swam over to the side of the log. Jaime reached out to try and help him up onto the log. Goji coughed up some water before looking down the river past Jaime. As he did his eyes went wide. This caused Jaime to turn around and become just as shocked as a large waterfall was getting closer down the river.

Jaime: Is that what I think it is?

Goji: Afraid so.

Jaime: So what do we do?

Goji: Same as before, survive.

Before Jaime could ask what he meant Goji grabbed hold of her shoulders and used all his strength to hurl her off the log towards the shore on the right side of the river. She landed face first onto the ground feeling just a bit sore from the impact. She quickly stood back up to look back towards Goji who went further down the river. Her cries to him being drowned out by the rising roar of the falls ahead. Once he made sure Jaime was all right Goji took a deep breath and dived back into the water.

He swam through the depths trying to find the serpent and the woman. Before long the color of the water started to turn dark crimson as something large drifted towards him. Upon closer examination it was revealed to be the serpent's disembodied lifeless head. Goji looked ahead and finally spotted the woman floating nearby near the rest of the serpent. He swam over and grabbed her arm to turn her around and saw that she was unconscious. Without thinking Goji placed his lips to hers in order to get air into her lungs.

In a few short moments her eyes shot open and pushed Goji away to quickly swim up to the surface. Goji was about to follow her when he looked back at the floating corpse, immediately forming an idea.

Back on the surface the woman shot up gasping for air and coughing violently. She then quickly spotted the falls getting closer to her. She turned around to try and swim away from it but the strength of the current was too strong. Suddenly Goji came up to the surface near her. She looked over to see that he was dragging the dead serpent behind him over his left shoulder. He started swimming ahead of her towards the falls. Before he goes over he quickly latches onto a large rock near the edge with his machete. With all his strength he pulls the corpse against the current to wrap around the rock.

The woman inched closer to the edge, still swimming against the current. She was about to go over before spotting the corpse against the rock. She pulled out her swords and quickly stabbed into it, catching her in midair dangling over the side. Goji held tight to the corpse even as it started to slip under the weight. The woman then started to slowly climb up the corpse with Goji struggling to stay on the rock while still holding the other end.

She made it halfway up and was getting closer until the other end suddenly slipped free from Goji's grasp. Both the woman and the corpse started to fall down to the bottom. She tried to open up her wings but they were still too wet to fly. As she fell, time appeared to almost slow down around her as she turned her body to fall face up from the bottom. Her eyes stared up taking what felt like her last look at the sky before she started to close them accepting her fate. When they fully closed she felt something latch onto her body causing her eyes to shoot back open.

Before she knew it her body was being held onto and cradled by Goji who angled them so that he'd take the full brunt of the fall. They both quickly braced themselves as they were about to hit the water below. They crashed into the water with a loud splash which resulted in Goji hitting his head up against a rock near the bottom. As blood seeped out of his head and into the water Goji managed to plant his feet onto the bottom and use the last of his strength to push the two of them up to the surface.

As they broke through they both gasped out for air before swimming towards the shore. They managed to pull themselves up onto the sand where they quickly fell onto their backs panting heavily as the rain finally started to die down. The woman lay there for a bit taking in the fact that she was still alive. After all that had transpired clashing with Goji, fighting the giant serpent, going over a waterfall she was still breathing. It almost made her forget that her enemy was still laying next to her on the sand. She quickly got up and placed her sword up against his neck.

She was about to slice open his throat when she noticed he was unconscious bleeding profusely from his head. She stood still for a moment looking at his deep head wound before remembering how he had grabbed ahold of her to protect her from the fall. It caused her mind to be filled with all kinds of questions. Why did he risk his life to save her when they were supposed to be enemies? Why did she save him from being eaten by the serpent? And why did he kiss her? That last question nearly caused her heart to skip and pound out of her chest.

Before she could ponder on it any further she felt a blade get put on her own throat. Out of the corner of her eye she recognized the figure of Jaime standing next to her holding Goji's machete with both hands shaking slightly.

Jaime: You let him go!

The woman took note of the shaking in her hands and turned her head to face her. Once their eyes met she could see the slight fear in her eyes and for the first time she finally recognized the fact that Jaime really was just a child. Everything she thought she knew was now turned completely upside down. And the "dangerous" target she had been sent to kill was nothing more than a simple little girl. She slowly lifted her sword off Goji's neck and stood up with her hands in the air.

Jaime: Now drop it!

She put the sword down on the ground at her feet.

Woman: Listen I need you to take me to where your truck is.

Jaime: Why should I?

Woman: Because if you don't your friend will die.

Jaime: You touch him and I'll cut your head off!

The woman took a few steps toward Jaime who quickly stepped back with the machete raised.

Jaime: Stay back!

Woman: Just listen to me for a minute! Your friend needs medical attention. If he doesn't get it he's going to die within an hour.

Jaime glanced over at Goji's head wound and slowly lowered the machete.

Jaime: Ok. There should be a medkit back in the truck. If you try anything you'll regret it. Got it?

The woman nodded and went over to get Goji off the ground. She put him onto her left shoulder and started to lift when Jaime ran over to help lift from the other side. They started to walk him up the trail Jaime came down on and within 15 minutes they were back at the truck. They laid him out in the back seat while Jaime grabbed the medkit and handed it to the woman. She cleaned up the wound with antibiotics and wrapped bandages around his head.

Jaime: Why are you helping us? A few hours ago you tried to kill us.

Woman: I'm only doing this to repay my debt to your friend.

Jaime: You mean when he saved your life?

The woman stopped for a second before continuing to wrap his head. Once she was done she stepped out of the truck and turned to Jaime. The two stared at each other for a bit before Jaime cleared her throat.

Jaime: So… what happens now?

The woman stood there for a moment before turning to walk away. Jaime watched her walk away confused.

Jaime: Does this mean you're not gonna try to kill me anymore?

She stopped suddenly and turned around to look at her.

Woman: Let's just call this a temporary stay of execution.

Jaime: And what you're just gonna leave?

Woman: If you want I could just kill you right now.

Jaime: No no it's fine.

The woman turned back around and continued walking.

Jaime: Hey so my name's Jaime, what's yours?

The woman stopped again and looked at her confused.

Jaime: I figured I should at least know the name of the person trying to kill me.

Woman: Maya.

Jaime: Maya. It's a nice name.

Maya's gaze wandered over to Goji in the truck. Jaime turned around and pointed her finger at his direction.

Jaime: Oh and his name's Goji.

Maya: Goji.

Jaime looked back and nodded. Maya turned back around and walked back into the woods. Jaime watched her for a while before letting out a huge sigh of relief and falling back on her butt. A few hours later Goji started to wake up and sit up placing his hand on his head groaning. He looked around trying to find Jaime when he saw her walking up to the truck carrying a bunch of fish on a branch over her shoulder. As soon as she saw him her expression brightened up with excitement as she ran over.

Jaime: Goji you're awake.

Goji: How long was I out.

Jaime: About an hour or two but check this out.

Jaime brought the branch over to show Goji the fish she caught.

Jaime: I caught us dinner all by myself. Pretty good huh?

Goji looked at the fish. While they weren't very large they would certainly help get them through the night.

Goji: Nice work kid.

Jaime smiled at his words as Goji stood up to help her clean and gut the fish.

Goji: What happened to the woman?

Jaime: Oh Maya left after she helped me get you back here.

Goji looked at her confused.

Goji: Maya?

Jaime: Yeah that's her name. She told me after she patched you up and then left.

Goji stopped what he was doing and subconsciously lifted his hand to place it against the bandages on his head. Suddenly memories of him trying to save her life exploded into his mind.

Jaime: You know despite the fact that she tried to kill us she didn't seem too bad.

Goji snapped out of his daze and went back to what he was doing. As night fell they had finished eating with Jaime sleeping calmly in the backseat of the truck listening to music on Goji's walkman. Goji sat in the driver's seat looking up at the stars. All the while his thoughts kept creeping back to the woman now called Maya.

She was unlike anyone he had ever met before. Even when they fought each other he felt a strange connection with her that he never felt with anyone. Maybe that's why he tried so hard to save her life back in the river? He couldn't say for sure but one thing was absolutely certain. Someday soon they would see her again. Whether as an ally or an enemy was still up for debate.

Meanwhile far off back in the town Lucius was in his office sitting at his desk when a photo was placed in front of him. He reached over to pick it up and saw it was a picture of a little girl. Sitting across from him was a young man with light brown hair dressed in a military uniform.

Soldier: She'd be close to about 13 to 14 now and answers to the name Jaime.

Lucius looked carefully at the photo and back to the soldier before shaking his head and handing back the photo.

Lucius: Sorry can't say that I've seen her.

Soldier: Well if you do you be sure to contact us immediately. Understood?

Lucius: Yes sir. Though if you don't mind my asking what does the JDF want with this little girl?

Soldier: I'm afraid that's classified sir.

The soldier stood up and walked out of the office. Lucius watched him with suspicion. Outside a convoy of military vehicles were lined up with soldiers wearing helmets and gas masks loading up food and medical supplies. The soldier walked up to a man wearing a military beret and an officer's uniform smoking a cigar.

Soldier: Major, According to the town sheriff the girl wasn't here.

Major: I see. And what of the other witnesses?

Soldier: According to the other eyewitness reports a pack of KKs came into town and were trying to kill a little girl before they were taken out by some stranger.

Major: What kind of stranger?

Soldier: Well apparently he was a wanderer who was locked up after causing an incident earlier in the local bar.

The Major took the cigar out of his mouth and puffed out some smoke from his mouth.

Major: Another KK?

Soldier: We suspect so sir.

Major: And what do you think, Lieutenant?

A young woman with short black hair wearing a lieutenant uniform walked up to the major and looked over to where they could see the trench in the road with a half melted charred skeleton with claws laying in the middle of it.

Lieutenant: There's no mistake sir, It's definitely him.

The Major dropped the cigar on the ground and stomped on it with his boot.

Major: Lieutenant Himura, take a team of our best men, track them down, and retrieve the girl.

Himura: You think she's traveling with him?

Major: We can't rule out the possibility.

Himura: And if we come into contact with the other subject sir?

The Major turns around to face her showing a large scar down the right side of his face with his eye colored pure white.

Major: Don't take any chances. You see an opportunity to kill him, take it.

And there you have it everyone! Man, I cannot tell you how long it took me to write out this chapter. Anyway as always hope you all enjoyed reading and hey don't be afraid to leave your thoughts in the reviews.
