14127: Bremerton girls, just because the San Diego girls are inches away from breaking Briggs' sanity for good does not give you permission to play "catch up" with Admiral Richardson. Having one nearly broken admiral is difficult enough to deal with!
UNDISCLOSED TIME, BUT POSSIBLE DIMENSIONAL FAULTS AND SHIPGIRL MAGICAL BULLSHIT ARE INVOLVED SO WHO CARES
Destroyers weren't always the smartest bunches on the block. Sammy B, while technically a destroyer escort, was a cut above the rest. That did not mean she was entirely above reproach however. As she wondered around her temporary home in Bremerton, she noticed two things: One, there were almost no ships in the harbor. And two, the one that was there was South Dakota and she appeared to be corralling what looked like logs? Odd.
Normally, Sammy would just walk past it all and pretend she saw nothing. But given that it was SoDac and the battleship had recently arrived from the east coast after her last set of experiments had sent Admiral Briggs to the Fleet Funny Farm for a while (after the screaming stopped), the destroyer had an obligation to investigate. So she changed course, heading for the docks.
As she got closer, she noticed that the "logs" SoDac was trying to corral we're not logs. Firstly, they moved on. Their. Own. And secondly, they talked, their voices never overlapping with each other but impressively loud.
"Keep those screws away from us!"
"If you wanna look fine but just look."
"When are we going to get some fish? You promised us fish!"
"Of course YOU would ask about that. Always thinking about your stomach Ruffles."
"I am not, you take that back you ]**{€|,€€%+*%]&:&:!& ):/,!$?! OW!"
"Such language will NOT be tolerated young man!"
"Oh my god it's a circus!" SoDac moaned, holding her head in her hands.
Sammy B looked at the very distinctive black and white markings on her companions, noting the translation collars SoDac fitted to them, then looked at the remains of SoDac's cloning machine still steaming on the dock, then she slowly turned towards the battleship. She noted that after a moment the whales did too, matching her movements perfectly. So she had backup. This might actually be fun. The destroyer cracked her knuckles.
Admiral Richardson normally ran a very quiet base so for things to suddenly change was surprising but not unexpected. He did after all, lead a majority shipgirl company. But shipgirls were one thing, this was quite another.
This being SoDac being hurled through his office window with a force and accuracy that would make a football punter proud. The battleship landed in the fetal position against the far wall where she remained, only curling tighter on herself and sucking on her thumb. In between her breasts sat a note. Cautiously, Richardson walked over and picked it up. He recognized Sammy B's fast handwriting.
It read: "Dear the Base Commander,
We understand that this battleship has somehow used her equipment to revive us. We are grateful to her but understand she has broken your rules so she has been punished accordingly.
We respectfully request joint status with your human subordinates and are quite happy to remain here seeing as our usual waters are occupied.
Also, if we could have 50 barrels of salmon delivered to us at the echo docks preferably fresh, it would be much appreciated.
Sincerely, J Pod.
PS: We apologies for the property damage."
Reluctantly as he really didn't want to know, Richardson walked to his still open window and looked out at the Echo docks. Sure enough there they were. Nearly 30 of them all from various time periods. How the hell did SoDac collect enough DNA samples to conduct her… okay, he did not want to know.
Leaving SoDac where she was for now. (SoDac was still whimpering and sucking her thumb) Richardson made his way towards the Echo docks stopping only to have the rest of Taffy 3 (who were looking for Sammy) to pick up the requested barrels of salmon.
Sammy B was standing just off the dock with her rigging deployed, conversing with the lead whale. Richardson recognized her immediately. How could he not. He'd been just as devestated as everyone else when she died. That had been 6 years ago and Richardson couldn't decide if he should commend SoDac or enhance her punishment. He settled for hearing what Granny had to say first.
Sammy B turned at his approach. "Hi Admiral. Do you need introductions?" She asked.
"I might for a few of them but you I know very well. I must say it's a pleasure to see you again, Granny." He said.
"Admiral Richardson, I presume. Sammy here has been explaining to us the current situation." She replied crisply. If she were human, he had no doubt they would've shook hands and her grip would've been firm, her gaze as it stood was calculating but carefully measured. Her tone diplomatic. His nod indicated his respect for her which she accepted gracefully.
"I gathered that." Richardson said. "I have ships bringing your requested salmon. Thankfully we have suppliers who consistently replenish our stocks."
"I imagine at some point we will have to discuss our options of residence. In the meantime we are satisfied with remaining right here. A question if I may Admiral?" She asked.
"Fire away."
"Violence is not usually our way but however grateful we are to South Dakota her actions, Sammy B has said, required a punishment. Did we not, go too far as you would say?" She wondered.
Richardson noted the slight range of concern in her voice. "It's nothing SoDac can't handle. She's seen a lot worse from other ships like Seawolf and Kongo." He replied.
"The endless battles of sanity with the science!girls." She sighed. "Yes I understand."
Richardson decided to take a shot in the dark and ask. "You seem remarkably calm about all this." He said.
The look she gave him benefited her name. It was absolutely 100% the look his grandmother gave him when she was trying to carefully explain something he didn't have a hope of understanding but she clearly thought he was an idiot for not getting it. "I have seen much of your war. I lived through part of it and many years before that. I saw your kanmusu, explored your bases. There is little of your society I don't know."
