A/N: Hey everybody! So like I said in the last Chapter, I'm gonna finally do Chapters of this fic centered around the other major fandoms of this series, starting with this one. Likewise, this is also going to be much lighter toned than the first and third Chapters, although there might a bit just a smidge of dark thrown in.
For the timeline, this is going to take place after Dark Legends: Enter Buffy and it is set during Season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in-between 4x11 and 4x12. Let's get rolling!
Now Playing: "Sleigh Ride" by The Ronettes
Sunnydale, December 2019
Ah yes… it was currently the most wonderful time of the year: Christmas!
So much holiday cheer was in the air at this moment, with families spending time together, children opening up gifts and playing with their toys, and many Dads trying to drink as much eggnog as possible. But there was one such family who rarely had this level of excitement in their lives.
A car was driving its way into Sunnydale, driven by none other than Andy Barclay, and right beside him was his wife, Nica Pierce. In the back seat sat their niece, Alice Pierce and her friends, Nora Darhk, William Clayton, and Trixie Espinoza, their 11 month old daughter Cindy Barclay, and their good friend and member of their old Dark Legends team, Gibb Smith.
For the reason they were heading over Sunnydale, just a couple of months ago, they had traveled to this town to investigate the mysterious paranormal activity that surrounded it, particularly with the rumors of there being Vampires running all over place and the big "Sunnydale Eclipse" that was big on the news. And upon their arrival, they had met some… intriguing people.
Those being the Scooby Gang led by Buffy Summers, the Slayer, and consisting of Willow Rosenberg, the Witch in progress, Xander Harris, the normal guy, Daniel "Oz" Osbourne, the werewolf, and Rupert Giles, the Watcher. On that day, they had formed a nice bond with that group, and now, given that they were in the holiday mood, they figured they were going to meet up with them once again, but under better circumstances.
Suddenly, Cindy was feeling a bit fussy as she started to whine.
"Nica, baby alert!" Gibb called.
"Alice!" Nica ordered her niece.
Alice understood what she meant and grabbed Cindy out of her carseat and handed her over to Nica, and subsequently handed her Cindy's bottle.
"Now, what's the matter?" Nica asked in baby talk, patting Cindy on the back. "No need to get all pouty. It's Christmastime, and we're about to go see some old friends."
At that moment, Cindy finally calmed down, much to everyone's relief.
"I gotta admit, guys. I still can't get over the idea of Vampires being real." Gibb said. "And that says a lot after all the shit I've been through over the years."
"I know, it's a lot to take in." Alice muttered.
"Oh yeah. And the whole… Slayer thing… so cool." Gibb continued.
"Definitely on that one." William agreed.
Just then, the car had finally pulled up in front of a house. One set within Revello Drive.
"Alright, I think this is the place they told us to meet them at." Andy told everyone.
"Thank God, we still have gas this time." Nica mumbled.
With that, the Dark Legends grabbed all of their belongings and got out of the car. They started walking their way towards the house, and once they stopped, they all stood there for a good 5 seconds.
And then, Andy lightly knocked on the door about three times.
Almost immediately, the door was finally opened, and a curly brown haired woman, looking to be in her early to mid 40s, greeted them.
"Hello, can I help you?" the woman asked.
"Hi, are you Joyce Summers?" Andy inquired.
"I am." the woman, Joyce, replied.
"My name is Andy Barclay. This is my wife, Nica Pierce, our niece Alice, her friends, Nora, William, and Trixie, our daughter Cindy, and our friend Gibb Smith. We're friends of your daughter, Buffy."
Joyce stared at them for 3 seconds trying to process what Barclay just said… and then suddenly chuckled as if someone just made a joke.
"Oh yes, you're the Dark Legends folks Buffy told me so much about." Joyce said happily.
"Yeah, you can say that." Alice said, before pointing towards herself and her friends. "But when it's just us four, we're the Dark Titans."
"Well, nonetheless, come on in, make yourselves right at home."
The Dark Legends then stepped inside of the house, and Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, and an unknown young woman with brown hair came into the scene.
"Hey! Glad to see you've made it!" Buffy said, shaking Andy's hand.
"Of course." Andy nodded. "And luckily, we didn't get attacked by Vampires this time in order for this to happen."
"Good to see you all again." Nica greeted, still holding onto Cindy, who was sucking her thumb.
"Of course!" Willow said, before turning her attention towards Cindy and gasping. "And I see your baby's gotten so big after last time."
"Yeah, she sure has." Andy muttered.
At that moment, both Willow and Buffy started to coo over the baby Barclay, talking in baby talk around her. Joyce also joined in on the action, and started to pinch Cindy's chubby face.
While this was going on, Xander noticed Gibb among the group.
"And who might you be?" he asked.
Gibb formed a smirk.
"Gibb Smith. Rhymes with pimp."
"Sounds a lot better than my rhymes." Harris muttered.
The brown haired woman formed a big grin on her and waved at the group.
"Hi!" she excitedly said, the Dark Legends staring at her in a bit of confusion. "I'm Anya. I'm a former Vengeance Demon who's lost all her power, but is now in a sexy relationship with Xander, which is ironic because-"
"Anya!" Xander yelled. "Please. You're saying too much."
Anya formed a bit of a glum look at her boyfriend, but then understood his request.
The Dark Legends shared funny looks with each other, before awkwardly waving back at Anya.
"Nice to meet you." They all said in unison.
"Is it just me, or does she act more like a kid than we do?" Trixie whispered to Alice. "Not saying that's a bad thing or anything but just something I noticed while around her."
"Yeah, you got a good point there." Pierce murmured.
With that, the Scoobies and Dark Legends headed off to the kitchen. And when they arrived, they sat at the table and chatted while they were eating the delicious dinner Joyce had made. And man… It definitely was good.
"So, on Halloween, there was this one corrupt company called Silver Shamrock." Nora started. "And they were selling these… pumpkin masks that were killing kids."
The Scoobies kind of cringed at the thought of that particular thing.
"And I thought our Halloween was scary." Buffy said.
"But it's okay, because us Dark Titans came in and whooped their asses!" Trixie said.
Now that made the Scoobies laugh.
"Wow, imagine that. A bunch of fully grown men getting beat up by a bunch of middle schoolers." Willow snarked, which made everyone laugh even more.
"We should've told you about when we assisted Green Arrow in taking out that Ricardo Diaz guy last year." Alice told them.
"Oh yeah, now that was something." William agreed.
"To be fair, from what I've heard on the news, that guy didn't seem all that impressive." Xander mumbled.
"Agreed. Bunnies are much more terrifying than that Diaz individual." Jenkins said randomly.
Once again, the Dark Legends shared funny looks after Anya said that… An ex-demon was scared of bunnies? Really?
"Yep, most definitely more kiddish than us." Alice whispered to Trixie.
"I heard that!" Anya piped up, causing everyone to laugh this time.
Burp!
Everyone turned around and saw Gibb holding a carton of eggnog in her hand.
"Pardon me."
Everyone else laughed once again.
"I like her." Buffy commented.
Suddenly, they turned their attention to the television playing in the living room. On their screen was a news report of the Flash fighting some… giant blood monster thing.
The news headline read:
Bloodwork still at large!
"The Bloodwork Paradox continues in Central City as now Bloodwork has affected the city's entire population. Can the Flash be able…"
"Jesus. Hopefully they fix that problem soon." Nica murmured, as she fed Cindy some of Joyce's mashed potatoes.
"I mean, a bit of blood powers shouldn't be the worst thing Flash has dealt with." Andy shrugged, to which everyone else nodded in agreement.
"Well, I guess while we're on the subject of stories, why don't we tell you about some of the stuff we've been doing since our last meeting?" Buffy asked.
"Sure, go for it." Andy replied.
Buffy smirked after he said that, and with that, began sharing some stories.
"For starters, when me and Willow started college, we had an encounter with this Vampire named Sunday, who had the whole gang of other Vamps worshiping her as if she was some God. Giles looked more into her history after we'd beat her and it turns out, she was something referred to as a Slaypire."
"A Slaypire?" William inquired. "Like… as in a Slayer turned into a Vampire?"
"Yep, exactly." Buffy confirmed. "Speaking of, our old classmate Harmony is a Vampire now."
"And she is quite annoying." Xander added.
"To make matters worse, remember that one Vamp we mentioned to you last time, Spike?" Buffy asked. "The one that attacked our school two years ago, and awakened the Judge."
The Barclays and the Dark Titans nodded.
"He's back in town. Him and Harm were in a relationship briefly, then he had a chip implanted into his head that makes him not kill humans and… let's say we kept him prisoner for a little bit."
"Sounds exciting." Gibb snickered.
"Oh, you don't know half of it." Buffy said with a smirk of her own.
"On the subject of relationships, me and Oz broke up due to some… complications." Rosenberg said glumly.
The Dark Legends stared at her in solemnity for a good 5 seconds.
"Sorry to hear about that." Andy said softly.
"Thanks." Willow nodded. "But I'd prefer not to share any more details about that."
"Understandable." Nica nodded. "It sucks too, because I actually liked that guy."
"Oh, Andy, I did briefly meet up with Angel in L.A." Buffy told Andy. "He actually came over to Sunnydale first without even telling me because his new friend with visions said that I was in danger."
"How'd your meeting go with him?" Andy asked.
"Kinda underwhelming to be honest." Summers shrugged. "I showed up at his office, we talked and I told him we should keep our distance, a demon showed up, he killed it and then… that was it."
"Never even knew he was living in L.A. Maybe I'll have the chance to meet him sometime." Trixie muttered.
"Yeah, and since Lucifer's time-traveling on the Waverider, your Mom might have a new-" Nora was about to quip, but then Trixie punched her on the shoulder. "Ow!"
"Then just a week or two ago, we all lost our way of speaking… literally." Xander told them, shocking the Dark Legends.
"Basically, these freaky looking demons from a fairy tale known as the Gentlemen took away our voices so that they could steal human hearts." Buffy explained with a bit of uneasiness in her voice. "It was quite a scary time, but luckily we got them back, and I destroyed them with a scream."
Everyone just sat there in shock after Buffy explained that whole thing. Just the thought of having your literal voice taken away from you was…
Yeah, quite the scary thought there.
"Oh man, that's about as scary as some of the shit I've experienced." Gibb murmured, chugging down some more eggnog in the process. "And to think the Hellhounds that attacked Springwood the very week you guys first visited this town were scary before I exorcised them to Hell. Then I had another encounter with the Demons Three that week, but those assholes are always so annoying."
At that moment, Giles stared at Gibb for about two seconds with a very curious look on his face.
"You exorcise demons to Hell?" he inquired.
"Yep." Gibb replied. "Took me about three years, but I'm sure I've got the hang of it now, as well as magic in general.
"Well, I'm actually quite curious about your story." Rupert said, stroking his chin.
"You sure you wanna know about that?" Smith asked.
"Yes, indeed."
Gibb closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before opening them up and looking up towards the ceiling for 6 seconds.
And after that moment of silence, she began talking.
"When I was a teenager, I was quite obnoxious. All I cared about was smoking and drinking, and I was also in quite the abusive relationship with a boy named Trey. Didn't help that my father was also quite abusive himself. But then one day… my entire life changed forever when I found Trey's body broken and folded up in his bed."
The Scoobies all felt a lot of sympathy towards Gibb already due to what she said about her abusive relationship.
Buffy especially given what she had been through with Angel, specifically when he had lost his soul and became Angelus. Although, whatever this Trey guy did to Gibb in their relationship was most likely nothing compared to what Angelus did to torment not only Buffy but all of her friends as well.
"From there, many of my friends kept quickly dying off, with some of them, such as one of my best friends, Kia, mysteriously dying off in their sleep." Gibb continued. "And I'd found out that those were all caused by a man named…"
Smith paused for a moment, before uttering the words:
"Freddy Krueger."
At that name, the Scoobies all shuddered, as they'd heard about the infamous child murderer from Springwood, even if they hadn't known much of him. But what little they do know…
Let's just say he was worse than any Vamp or demon they'd come across over the past few years.
"He was a child killer from my town who killed several children, until their parents burned him in his boiler room. But years later, he came back to life as what was called a Dream Demon, these nightmarish entities that would haunt people in their sleep… and kill them."
The Scoobies' eyes widened even more. Now that was a scary thought.
Not only did they have to come across this guy in their dreams and nightmares, but then they also run the risk of being physically killed in their sleep? Geez…
But for some reason… all of this sounded… familiar to them.
"And he continued his murder spree from the 80s all the way to the early 90s when something happened where everyone just forgot about him. Until about 16 years ago when Freddy decided to manipulate Jason Voorhees." Gibb said, with the Scoobies' eyes widening once again.
"Jason Voorhees?" Buffy asked. "Like… Hockey-masked Camp Crystal Lake Killer Jason Voorhees?"
"Yeah, that Jason." Gibb nodded. "Freddy got him to do his bidding, but then here's the kicker: he saved me from both being killed by Freddy in the Dream World and being raped in the real one."
"What?" the Scoobies asked, once again in shock.
"I know, it's kind of hard to believe. But then that eventually led to them having a huge one-on-one fight with each other until Jason finally conquered him. But from there on, I'd completely changed my ways and tried to be a better person."
"Y'know… since I was a wish-granting Vengeance Demon at that point, I easily could've bumped into you and made your ex go away." Anya suddenly spoke up.
"What, and then get brutalized by Freddy or Jason before granting my wish?" Gibb snarked. Jenkins stared at her for two seconds.
"Touché."
"Anyways, my other best friend, Lori, was killed shortly after that, and then that led to her boyfriend, Will, to be willingly locked up at Westin Hills. And I was pretty much on my own after that." Smith resumed her story. "But 12 years after that, Freddy came back again to torture me. And since I had no moral support, I had to call an exorcist named John Constantine."
"Of course you know Constantine as well." Giles muttered with a hint of an annoyance.
"Why do you two have history together?" Gibb inquired.
"You can say that…" Giles trailed off.
"I guess that's to be expected given you're British like him." Gibb shrugged. "As I was saying though, John assisted me with Freddy, and then Jason also came back. However, that came with a cost as we had sent Freddy to Hell, but he'd dragged Jason with him. And Jason ultimately decided to stay in Hell to keep Krueger busy."
Smith closed her eyes, remembering Jason's ultimate sacrifice that day. It had pained her when he had made that decision, as he was oddly enough the best thing she had to a friend… In fact… possibly even something more than that…
But in the end, it was understandable why he did it. Because if he didn't… who knows if Freddy would've been defeated then.
Once again, the Scoobies stared at Gibb with solemn expressions.
"I never would've imagined Jason Voorhees having morals after all the people he's killed over the years." Willow started. "But what he did at that time was very noble."
"But considering what we'd seen with Angel, I guess it shouldn't be surprising that even someone like Jason would have a change of heart." Giles added.
"Don't forget about me!" Anya exclaimed, raising her hand. "I was a bad guy!"
"No one's forgetting about you, An." Xander said softly, rubbing his hand on her shoulder. "Nobody's forgetting about you."
"After all that, I've decided to dabble into the realms of magic myself as a way to protect myself from Freddy or whatever else." Gibb said. "And then, two years later, I'd put my new skills to the test when I was finally reunited with Constantine and he'd recruited me to Andy's Dark Legends team to fight some asshole named Damien Darhk."
Gibb turned to the Barclays and Dark Titans.
"But I'm pretty sure you guys already told them about that, right?" she asked them to which they nodded. "Good."
She turned back to the Scoobies, and finished her story.
"So all you need to know on that front was we went to pirates, I was sent to Hell and encountered a fake Freddy, and then Hell was unleashed, and I took the real Freddy down once more. And so then, I started to practice my magic even more… and that leads us to now. Thus, that's my story."
Once again, the Scoobies couldn't help but stare at Gibb after she'd explained her story. All of them were incredibly fascinated by the story, as well as her as a person, especially with her change and growth.
But once again, what she'd mentioned about Freddy Krueger's powers… Why did it sound so familiar to them?
And then… it hit them.
"Guys… do you know what that whole Freddy thing reminds me of?" Buffy asked the other Scoobies.
"Yes. Billy." Giles replied.
"Who's Billy?" Alice inquired.
"He was this 12 year old boy who was put into a coma by his coach after losing a basketball game." Buffy explained. "He created an astral body, and that caused nightmares of everyone in Sunnydale to come to life."
"And that was quite the scary time." Xander added. "It made Giles unable to read, Buffy became a Vampire, Willow got stage fright… and I came to school in underwear and was attacked by a clown from my childhood."
"Thank goodness, I wasn't in Sunnydale at that time, otherwise, bunnies would've been all over me." Anya commented, causing a couple of snickers from the Dark Legends.
"Now back then, I had speculated that the reason Billy's astral body caused all of that was because of the unnatural energy of the Hellmouth." Rupert said. "But after hearing about this… now I wonder if there was some connection between Billy and Krueger."
Everyone pondered that question for a little bit, including Gibb. It did seem likely to be the case as when that whole thing happened in Sunnydale, it would've been a year and half after Gibb and Constantine's bout with Freddy.
And from what the Scoobies said about Billy… It did sound a lot like a more restrained version of Krueger's powers.
"Actually, I did do a little research online on Billy just a little bit after that happened." Willow spoke up, catching everyone else's attention. "And I'd found out that he had a relation to Freddy: he was his grandson."
Once again, everyone formed shocked expressions on their faces, including Gibb.
"Damn… I did hear about Freddy potentially having a daughter named Kathryn and that she was the one that last killed him in the early 90s before he came back manipulating Jason," Smith remarked. "So him having a grandson wouldn't be out of the question."
"I never would've thought any lady would be stupid enough to even marry a sick fuck like him, let alone have a kid with him." Andy muttered.
"Andy! Not in front of the baby." Nica whispered, nudging towards Cindy.
"S-sorry!" Andy stammered, realizing what he just said.
"But when I looked this up, there were some articles on the Internet about people speculating him invading people's dreams, but there wasn't too much info about him, which should be a good thing considering the type of person he was." Willow continued. "So I really didn't know much about him… until today."
"So that means… when Freddy came back four years ago before me and John fought him… he must've cursed Billy with his Dream Demon powers." Gibb realized. "Goddammit. He's even sicker than I'd realized."
"God… I feel so bad for the poor kid." Buffy murmured.
"Me too, Buffy." Willow sighed. "Hopefully he's doing better now."
There was about 30 seconds of silence in the kitchen. So silent that you could literally hear a pin drop.
Nobody said a single word…
Until…
"Alright, that was enough of that dreary talk." Joyce spoke up with enthusiasm. "It's Christmas, so let's continue to spread some cheer!"
"That I can whole-heartedly agree with, Ms. Summers!" Trixie said.
"Please, call me Joyce." Joyce replied.
"Either way, anything's better than talking about Dream Demons." William said.
"Totally." Nora agreed.
"And besides, bunnies are still much more frightening than this Freddy person." Anya exclaimed.
"An, would you please stop talking?" Xander asked his ex-demon girlfriend, causing everyone to laugh.
And with that, the Dark Legends and the Scoobies quickly left behind everything surrounding Freddy and his Dream Demon powers, and continued to celebrate Christmas in joyous spirit.
A/N: Well, this was fun to write. So here we have ourselves a Christmas Chapter... released in February, LOL! But hey, it's technically still the Winter Season, so this isn't too late, am I right?
Main reason why I wanted to do this was to just have Gibb finally met the Scoobies, which I was originally considering doing in Enter Buffy, but that story was already very long, adding her in would've made it a tad bit too much longer, so that's why I didn't include her. But here, she was fair game.
Plus, now Anya has finally met our Dark Legends gang! I gotta admit, she was a bit tricky to write, but I still had a lot of fun writing her amusing self. *Snickers*
And then for the big one: the connection between Billy Palmer from Buffy 1x10 and Freddy Krueger. Man, I just can't stop with the connections to that guy, can I? First there was connecting him to Dream of the Endless in my last story, now we have this.
But anyways, when I first started watching Buffy and saw that episode, this idea immediately came to my mind, because the way the nightmares came to life in that episode just reminded me so much of nightmares Freddy would conjure up. And so, in this universe, Billy is Freddy's grandson, and the son of Kathryn Krueger from Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, which I thought for a long time wouldn't be canon to this series, because fuck that movie! But alas, nothing suggested that it wouldn't be, so it did still happen here (unfortunately).
So now, I've finally got one of my earliest Buffyverse ideas out there in this series. And who knows, maybe later on in a future story, I'll reveal that Billy is also the nephew of a certain guy from the Arrowverse whose last name is Palmer. *Winks*
Other than that, not much to say on this one other than thank you to Aragorn II Elessar for helping out on this.
For the next Chapter, I'm thinking I'll either do another Buffyverse-centered one or possibly one centered around Constantine. Still not too sure yet. See you guys then!
