(Next morning)
Red, Chuck and The Blues were in their own dorm room that Ozpin had set up for them, preparing to head out to the Emerald Forest.
"This place is great!" Chuck exclaimed, looking out at the window, showing the entire campus. "It has dorms, nice scenery, a cafeteria with delicious food and a library, better than what Pig City has to offer back home!"
"It could be a paradise-" "If those Grimm monsters-" "Didn't exist." The Blues pointed out.
"Yeah, I can see why, especially when you consider the monsters they have to fight." Red said as he looked over all the data on the Creatures of Grimm that Ozpin gave them, which he downloaded to the scroll that Ozpin also gave him.
"These Grimm things are quite nasty in this place. Beowolves, Ursai, Wyverns, Nevermores, Death Stalkers…" Red muttered out the names of the Grimm while The Blues went over to Red's side to see what the monsters looked like.
"Hehe...they all looked like they were ready for a Halloween party!" giggled Jake.
"Woah! Is that a three-headed giraffe!?" Jim asked with surprise and awe.
"Fascinating… some of them even resemble the animals we see back home." Jay remarked.
"Either the pigs will find a way to control them, or they somehow side with them, if both of them are intelligent enough that is." Red expressed his concern.
"That's all the more reason for us to work with Ozpin and these Huntsmen to help fight them, right?" Chuck said while doing stretching exercises. "It's also why Ozpin is having us take this test of his with those first-year students. It is not just to test our skills, but to see what we are capable of. By the way, Red, didn't you say you met a girl who got accepted into this school waaay early?"
"Yep, her name is Ruby. Ruby Rose." Red began. "She's got some skill, apparently her uncle trained her, wields a scythe that can transform into some kind of gun and she's pretty fast too. Well technically not as fast as you, Chuck, but still pretty fast. Apparently, Ozpin admitted her two years ahead of other students like her, so she seems like a special case."
"I happened to meet her when I arrived here. She was showing off her weapon to a boy with a nice choice of clothing. She really loves her weapon, I'm telling ya." Chuck said.
"Can't wait to meet them and see what they can do!" The Blues squealed, barely containing their excitement.
"We should get going then. Ozpin's probably expecting us now and it would be rude to keep him waiting." Red suggested, putting the scroll in his pocket.
"Eh, we'll be there in no time." Chuck said as he opened the window. "Race you guys there!" He challenged as he fell causally out of the window before running down the side of the building, with Red and The Blues hopping out to use their own speed to follow Chuck.
(Meanwhile…)
All the first-year students, including Ruby, Yang, Weiss, Blake and Jaune had all assembled at the cliff near the forest below as Ozpin and Glynda began to give them their instructions for the test.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors." Ozpin began. "And today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."
"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams." Glynda added. "Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates, today."
"These teammates will be with you the rest of your time here at Beacon." Ozpin continued. "So, it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well. That being said, the first person you make eye-contact with after landing, will be your partner for the next four years."
"What!?" Ruby exclaimed.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest." Ozpin explained. "You will meet opposition along the way, do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die." Jaune's face was briefly white as he gulped.
"You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. You will guard that item as well as your standing, and we will grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
"Um… yeah. Sir…?" Jaune nervously raised his hand, but Ozpin appeared to ignore him for some reason.
"Good. Now, take your positions." He instructed as the students each took some form of position on the individual platforms that they were each standing on.
"Uh sir… I've got a question…" Jaune still had his hands raised as the platforms began to launch each of the students out one by one, Weiss being the first. "So, this landing strategy thing… um… What is it? You're like, dropping us off or something?"
"No. You will be falling." Ozpin answered as more of the students were launched into the forest.
"Oh… I see… so, like… did you hand out parachutes for us?" Jaune continued asking.
"No. You will be using your own landing strategy" Ozpin replied.
"Uh-huh, yeah." Jaune nodded nervously.
Yang was about to be launched next as she gave her sister a friendly wink, put on a pair of sunglasses, and was launched. Ruby was next with a smirk before she too was launched, leaving only Jaune.
"So… uh… what exactly is a landing strategeeeeeeeyyyyyyy!" Jaune screamed as he was launched as well.
Ozpin took a sip of his mug before a blur of yellow appeared behind him.
Unsurprisingly, Chuck got there first. He was about to greet Ozpin when he looked toward the forest and saw several students in the air and falling to the forest.
"Are you teaching them to fly?" Chuck asked with confusion as the rest of his friends arrived shortly and saw the students falling into the forest as well.
"Well yes, but actually, no." Ozpin answered. "There are multiple scenarios in which a Huntsmen or Huntress end up falling from great heights, and this is a way for them to come up with a landing strategy in which they do not die from said fall." Ozpin explained.
"I sure hope they are ok." Chuck muttered as he shot a glance at the forest.
"Alright, the students have some kind of test here, but what do we do here? We're not students here." Red asked.
"Much like our students, the five of you will enter the Emerald Forest and make your way to the abandoned temple." Ozpin explained. "However, you do not need to guard any relics, as those are our way for assigning the students into teams. Just make your way past the Grimm to the temple and return to the cliff. We will be monitoring you to see how you fight and get a better grasp of your capabilities. You may choose to help the students if you wish."
"However, just as they must learn to work with others, it is also important for them to handle themselves and not become too dependent on outside parties for help." Glynda added. "As Ozpin said, you can help them, but it is not required. This test for them is to assess their abilities and teamwork, we are just simply observing what you can do."
"Fight some monsters and help some students, seems easy enough." The Blues commented.
Chuck ran back to get a running start, before he dashed through the air screaming, "Waaahoo!" and entered the forest first.
Next was the Blues. Jim hopped onto Jay's shoulders first, before Jay did a back handspring with Jim in his back, before Jim used his arms to launch himself and Jim into Jake's shoulders, forming a human tower. Continuing the momentum, Jake did a front flip near the edge of the cliff, before Jim used his arms again to spring themselves into the air, with the brothers screaming, "Weeee!" Before entering the forest next.
Red decided to try the springboards the students had used. After setting the springboard to its original position, Red stood on the springboard, preparing himself to get launched off.
Funny enough, the springboard didn't launch Red. With a confused look, Red closely inspected the springboard he's standing on, but there seems to be nothing wrong with it.
*Click!*
"Ahhh!" Red shouted as he was launched into the forest last.
"This should be interesting." Ozpin commented as he took another sip of his mug.
"Sir, are you sure it is wise for them to take this test alongside our students?" Glynda asked.
"While they could be mistaken for complete strangers, one good close look at each of them and they will find that is not the case. They will never have seen anything like them, and it's nice for them to interact with our students." Ozpin explained.
"Given what they've told us of these "Bad Piggies", and the threat they could pose to Remnant, Red and his companions will have to take an active role in this world and work alongside us and our allies. This will help test not only how they are willing to work with us, but how our people are willing to work with people like them."
"Of course, you know there will be other consequences." Glynda told him. "The Pigs are not our only enemies."
Ozpin could only sigh. "Yes Glynda…I'm well aware..."
"Ahhhh!" Red continued to scream as he was still falling, and he's about to hit a tree.
"No! No! No!"
"Face!"
"Arm!"
"Bottom!"
"Ribs!"
"Giblets….Ow!"
"My head…"
Red winced, rubbing his head from the rough landing.
Red suddenly heard a loud growling ahead of him. Thinking that a student might be in danger or a Grimm was about to attack him, he quickly shrugged off the pain, got up, and drew out his sword, running towards the source of the growling to investigate.
Meanwhile, Weiss was surrounded by a bunch of Grimm, along with an Alpha Beowulf.
"Remember your training, Weiss." She thought to herself. "Head up, shoulders back, right foot forward… not that forward! Slow your breathing, wait for the right time to strike and… Now!" She shot herself forward with her weapon, Myrtenaster pointing forward, ready to attack the Beowulf in front of her, only for Ruby to suddenly appear in front of her and cut that same Beowulf down with her Crescent Rose. "Gotcha!"
Weiss gasped as she stopped herself, slicing Myrtenaster the other direction, sending a trail of flame along the ground to ignite a nearby tree. This alerted Ruby and left her distracted to get sliced by a Beowolf, sending her tumbling into Weiss.
"Hey, watch it!" Ruby exclaimed.
"Excuse me!" Weiss exclaimed back. "You attacked out of turn! I could have killed you!"
"You'll have to try a lot harder than that." Ruby muttered as they came back-to-back, facing the entire back of Grimm as the largest one, the Alpha, gave a howl, and the fire from Weiss' accident began to spread around the area.
However, before anyone else could make a move, a shout was heard before a red shockwave hit the nearest Beowolf, causing it to be launched towards the other Grimm, knocking them all down.
A streak of red crossed over above Ruby and Weiss, uppercutting another Beowolf that dodged the shockwave by the jaw, causing it to get launched high into the air for some time before it fell to the ground with a loud *CRACK!* and disintegrated.
"Red!?" Ruby recognized him immediately as he stood in front of them.
"Hello again, Excuse me for a moment while I discipline some bad wolves." Red said as he charged towards the fallen beowolves with a war cry, quickly decapitating most of the fallen Beowolves by dashing around the fallen Grimm with quick swipes of his sword before grabbing another Beowolf by the arm, swinging it around rapidly like a whip and pounding some Grimm in the vicinity to the ground like a hammer while sounds of bones and skulls being crushed filled the air before Red let go of the Beowolf, hitting more unfortunate Beowolves.
Two surviving Beowolves pounced at Red, in which Red dodged quickly by jumping high, causing the Grimm to knock into each other before taking out his sword while spinning rapidly in a ball shape, slicing through the Grimm like a buzzsaw guillotine.
Just as he was about to attack the Alpha, as it was the only surviving Grimm left, a burning tree landed in front of him and stopped him in his tracks.
He quickly noticed the flames around the area and decided to handle that instead. Putting back his sword, Red quickly grabbed the upper trunk that hasn't been burnt yet.
Using his strength, he quickly launched the tree into the air before using his voice to propel the tree away from the forest. As Red looked at the burning tree shrinking from his line of sight, Ruby looked with stars in her eyes and a wide smile, practically squealing at Red's display of skill while Weiss was rendered speechless.
Red turned around to where he spotted the Alpha Beowolf and found that it was already gone. "Hmph...the coward. Pretty sure he'll be back." Red turned around and met up with the girls.
"Red, that was so cool!" Ruby beamed. "You were so cool! And… you just bashed through those Grimm like Slash! Boom! Bang! Pow! " She continued to squeal.
"I have experience." Red shrugged before looking toward Weiss. "I see you made a new friend."
"Who or what are you?!" The heiress questioned rudely. "What kind of Semblance just lets you just shout your way through a pack of Grimm and send them flying?! You are clearly no ordinary person! And this place is private property of Beacon Academy! I know I didn't see you on the cliff with the other students, so where did you come from?!"
"What's with her attitude?" Red thought out quietly.
"Calm yourself down first please, My name is Red. No, I do not have a Semblance, that's just my own ability, and I was invited here by Ozpin who's testing me and my friends. We have an agreement going on. Does this satisfy all of your questions?"
Weiss only stared blankly, not expecting her accusations to be answered calmly. "I believe so…"
"Good." He turned back to Ruby. "Did not expect to see me again, Ruby?"
"No I didn't, but I'm glad I did!" Ruby beamed. "Then why are you here in the forest?"
"Ozpin asked me and my friends to join this test to see what we can do as we have an agreement going on. We were briefed that you guys have to get some relics for your team and he said we could help if we wanted, so here I am. I'll explain the rest of the details later." Red explained.
"Friends? You got friends here?" Ruby asked. "Are they all like you?"
"Similar but unique in their own ways, I'm sure you'll like them." Red said before turning back to Weiss. "Well, you know my name, what's yours?"
"Weiss... Weiss Schnee." She replied, slowly processing what Red had said to her. "Wait, you said you don't have a Semblance? How is that possible?!"
"That's because I'm not from Remnant, I'm from Earth." Red simply answered.
Weiss blinked a few times in confusion. "Pardon me?"
Ruby gave a slight wincing smile, having already heard Red's story with Ozpin when they first met. "Would you believe us if we told you. he's kind of an alien?"
Meanwhile, Yang walked through another area of the forest, and yet to find another student. "Hello!? Is anyone out there?! Hello?! I'm getting bored here!"
She heard some bushes ruffle behind her. "Is someone there?" She walked toward the bushes and pushed them away. "Ruby, is that you?" Her answer came in the form of a growl from the Ursa right in front of her. "Nope."
She quickly rolled out of the way to avoid the claw-swipe from the Ursa, getting back on her feet and reading Ember Celica, her gauntlet weapons. She then dodged out of the way of a second Ursa that tried to attack her from behind.
The first one lunged at her, but Yang gave a punch to its gut, using Ember Celica to fire a shotgun blast to knock it back. The second one tried to rush her, but she delivered an uppercut to its jaw, with another shotgun blast from the punch to send it flying upward and dealt a kick to knock it back down.
"You guys wouldn't have happened to see a girl in a red hood, would you?" She asked rhetorically as the Ursa roared at her. "You could have just said no." She ducked under one claw slice and backflipped to avoid the second with a joking laugh. "Geeze, you two couldn't hit the broadside of a…"
Her smile faded immediately as she saw a lock of her own blonde hair fall off, having gotten cut by the Ursa's previous claw slice. "You…" Her eyes closed and then opened to reveal they were red with rage. "You bastards!"
An explosion erupted around her whole body, her hair on fire as Yang shot herself forward with her gauntlets, gunning for the closest Ursa, pounding it all over its body with a flurry of punches and shotgun blasts from Ember Celica, sending it flying.
She wasn't done with it yet as she propelled herself forward with blasts from her gauntlets to continue her beatdown of that Ursa before delivering a strong enough punch to send it crashing through several trees before it succumbed to its injuries and disintegrated.
Yang then turned around to face the second Ursa as it charged at her. "What?! You want some too?!"
However, the Ursa was quickly impaled from behind, causing it to fall over dead. The one who killed it was the same black haired girl that saved Ruby from Weiss's bickering, who began to retrieve her weapon.
"Blake, I could have taken him." Yang said to her, her red eyes turning back to their natural lilac color..
Suddenly, three Ursa appeared on their right, breaking through several trees to roar and attack the pair.
"Looks like you may get your chance!" Blake said as she and Yang readied herself.
However, the three Ursa suddenly reeled forward and roared in pain, much to their surprise.
"I thought you said I may get my chance!" Yang said with an annoyed pout.
"But I didn't…!" Blake wasn't given enough time to protest before large flames suddenly swallowed the Ursas whole from the back like a large predator chomping down on a bunch of small prey whole, which took some time before the massive flames died down, leaving nothing but ashes while both Yang and Blake, looked wide-eyed at what just happened.
"Ok, I'm convinced that wasn't you." Yang said as she gazed closely at the pile of ashes.
"We should get moving." Blake said as she ran deeper into the forest after some silence of looking.
Yang, who wanted to look for the person who helped them instead, gave up with a sigh and decided to catch up to Blake.
Elsewhere, a young man was trekking through the forest's tall grass. He has magenta-colored eyes, black hair, with a single magenta streak on his left side. He wore a dark green, diagonally-button, long sleeved tailcoat with black and gold trimming, as well as white pants and black shoes trek through the forest's tall grass.
He suddenly stops and narrows his eyes, looking around him while a huge black Grimm serpent rises up from the grass behind him and quickly surrounds him with its large, hissing body.
The young man adopts a fighting stance as the snake coils together in front of him and attacks with its long fangs. He quickly leaped out of the way, the snake's mouth hitting the ground but instantly coming up again to hit him back with its snout.
The young man landed in a crouch and noticed that the serpent encircled him again. He quickly drew out two green pistols with sickle-like blades before jumping up and firing at the creature, spinning in a corkscrew motion.
The serpent tried to attack him with its snout again but he dealt a swift kick to the snout, causing the Grimm to get knocked down temporarily, allowing him to strike the Grimm with the blades on his weapon, hurting it before the snake started flowing around him and tried to bite him again, but he flipped over it quickly and drove the blades of his weapon into its head.
He was about to deal the killing blow to the Grimm but another hissing noise stopped him in his tracks. He turned his head behind to see a white Grimm serpent about to bite him, but dodged away from the Grimm's attack in time. The black Grimm serpent, fully recovered, flowed together with the white Grimm serpent.
Turns out, both Grimm serpents share a body, one half is the black serpent's body while the other half is the white serpent's body.
As the young man and the Grimm prepared round two, several arrows of blue energy struck the Grimm serpents in their faces, some arrows even pierced their eyes, dazing them and surprising the young man before a cupcake lighted with a fuse flew between the two Grimm heads, both disintegrating into a dark mess along with the cupcake, with their slowly disintegrating bodies falling to the ground.
The young man turned around to see who finished the Grimm off for him, only to see three kids in blue sliding down a tree like a firepole.
"Guys, I think our ammo is running out." Jay said to his brothers.
"But aren't our arrows energy based?" Jake asked with a confused look.
"No, not the arrows, it's our bombs. We're really going to need to make more of these once we get back." Jay told Jake.
"Did you three do this?" The young man asked the Blues.
"Yep, we did. We saw you alone with a big two-headed snake monster and thought you might need a hand since you were outnumbered." Jim told the young man.
"I could handle it myself, but thank you anyway." the young man said.
"What is that thing anyway?! It has two heads!" Jake exclaimed.
"That's a King Taijitu." The young man told Jake.
"Wow, that's an intriguing name. Speaking of names, I'm Jim. The one behind me is Jay and the one that you talked to is Jake. You can also call us by The Blues. What's yours?"
"Ren."
Before The Blues and Ren can continue their conversation, the sound of a poor imitation of an animal's call entered their ears from the canopy above them. A girl then appeared, hanging upside down from a tree branch with a smile practically glued on her face.
The girl has orange hair and aqua eyes and wore a black sleeveless dress with a white shirt over it and a heart-shaped cut out over her breast line, along white detached sleeves on both her arms and pink fingerless gloves. She also had a pink skirt with a white layer underneath and white boots with pink laces.
"I still don't think that's what a sloth sounds like." Ren told her.
"I agree. Babies make squeaking noises."Jay commented.
The girl appeared to ignore The Blues for a moment, lightly tapping Ren's nose.
"Boop."
She then leapt down from her spot and turned towards The Blues. "Hi there. You guys got some good moves there."
"Thanks." Jake smiled. "I'm Jake, these are my bros Jim and Jay. We also go by The Blues. What's yours?"
"Nice to meet you, Blues. I'm Nora, Nora Valkyrie." She pulled Ren in, wrapping her right arm around him. "And this is my best buddy Lie Ren, but everyone just calls him Ren."
"Hello." Ren nodded simply.
"Nice names." Jay smiled.
"Thank you." Ren replied.
"Well, now with introductions out of the way… aren't you all the cutest kids ever!" Nora squealed loudly as she gave a big bear hug to the triplets.
"I feel like I'm a teddy bear." Jake remarked.
"Nora, let them go, you might suffocate them." Ren told Nora
"Just a little longer." Nora replied as she continued to hug The Blues, making sure she's not squeezing them, although she wished she could, while The Blues were waiting for Nora to let them go.
Ren breathed a sigh as he looked at Nora still hugging the blue triplets.
"This will certainly be interesting." He told himself.
Meanwhile, back at the top of the cliff, Professor Ozpin and Glynda continued to observe the progress of the students, as well as Red, Chuck and the Blues through their scrolls that showed them what was happening in the forest below.
"Our last pair has been formed, sir. Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren" Glynda reported to Ozpin. "And it would seem that Red and his companions have chosen to aid the students."
"Which speaks for their characters." Ozpin replied. "From what we've heard, the Creatures of Grimm and Huntsmen Academies do not exist in their world. So I imagine they must feel the need to protect those they perceive as young and inexperienced just as they protect their young back in their world."
"While that may be true, I hope they don't intend to carry the students all the way to the end of this exam." Glynda said. "We've expressed to them that the students cannot become dependent on others if they are to grow and be Huntsmen."
"I don't think we have to worry." Ozpin responded. "Based on what we're seeing, Red and the others are choosing to work alongside the students as equals, rather than simply handing all the heavy lifting for the students. This shows they are capable of working with others outside of their normal company. It is my best hope that we are able to establish proper cooperation with them."
"Well, this test is not over yet." Glynda said. "There is still much that all of them will have to do."
The two professors then proceeded to make their way back to the main campus, where Ozpin would be watching them all closely. He needed to see what Red and his friends could do, perhaps it could give him and his allies an advantage in the coming conflict. (Or should I say, conflicts?)
"That reminds me, sir. What did you use as relics this year?" Glynda asked.
"Just watch the students and you'll soon find out." Ozpin simply told her.
Meanwhile, Ruby sat on the ground with a bored and annoyed expression playing with a leaf, while Weiss was pacing back and forth trying to find the direction they were supposed to go.
"It's definitely this way." Weiss walked in one direction before turning around. "I mean, this way! It's definitely this way." She then walked back toward Ruby. "Alright, it's official, we passed it."
"Why can't you just admit that you have no idea where we're going?" Ruby questioned as she stood up.
"Because I know exactly where we're going!" Weiss tried to defend herself. "We're going… to… the forest temple!"
Ruby groaned in annoyance. "Can't we just wait for Red? He said he went to scout ahead!"
"Because I'm not going to let some stranger give me directions when I can easily figure it out on my own!" Weiss argued. "And it's not like you know where we are either!"
"At least I'm not pretending that I know everything!" Ruby shot back.
"What is that supposed to mean?!" Weiss questioned.
"It means you're a bossy, stuck-up, know-it-all jerk, who can't seem to accept the fact that she might be wrong!" Ruby argued.
"I'm not bossy!" Weiss argued back. "And I'm not a stuck-up! At least I'm not a kid who snuck her way into this school!"
"I didn't sneak into this school! And I'm not a kid!" Ruby exclaimed. "I didn't even ask to be moved up this far ahead! I'm not a show-off like you!"
"I'm not a show-off!" Weiss shouted.
"Yes, you are!"Ruby shouted back.
"Why you…"
"Stop it this instant!" Chuck suddenly appeared between Ruby and Weiss, pushing them apart. "Aren't you guys mature enough to discuss this and not fight?!"
"She started it!" Ruby pointed to Weiss.
"I did not! And who the heck are you?!" Weiss exclaimed.
"I'm Chuck and I'm ending this argument now!" Chuck told Weiss.
"Hey, aren't you the one that asked me and Jaune where Ozpin is?" Ruby asked Chuck, temporarily forgetting her argument with Weiss.
"Yep, hello again Ruby. I know your name because my friend Red told me about you. Yes, me and Red are friends." Chuck said quickly.
"Anyways… judging by how the two of you are together, I can assume that both of you are partners, right? Maybe if you can stop arguing with each other for once and try to find a way to work together, you two can do many great things, but it's never gonna happen if you're having a civil war with one another! How about we bury the hatchet right here and right now and discuss like rational people?" He took a moment to let the heat die down as both girls remained silent.
"Alright, Chuck… what do you propose we do then?" Weiss asked with crossed arms.
"Well, you can start by sharing what you can do with each other." Chuck suggested. "Like sharing about your abilities and weapons, find a way to make them work together as partners and as a team."
"I guess that makes sense…" Ruby said, rubbing her arm a bit.
Weiss gave a small sigh herself, seeing the logic to it. "Very well, then."
"Why don't you start first, Ruby?" Chuck offered.
"Ok. Well, my weapon is called Crescent Rose." The younger girl brought out her scythe. "It's a customized scythe that can be converted into a high-impact sniper rifle. My Semblance is called Petal Burst, it lets me move pretty fast. I'm not sure if I'm as fast as you, Chuck, but I'm still pretty fast." She said.
"That's cool." Chuck nodded before turning back to the other girl. "Since I don't know your name, but you know mine, tell me your name first then share with me and Ruby here what you can do."
She took out her own weapon. "My name is Weiss. Weiss Schnee. This is Myrtenaster. It's a multi-action Dust rapier. As you might suspect, it is capable of utilizing Dust for various short and long-ranged attacks. Currently, I have fire, ice, lightning, hard-light, wind, and gravity Dust. As for my Semblance, it is known as Glyphs. It allows me to conjure Glyphs of various abilities such as propulsion, attraction, and I'm even capable of infusing Dust into my Glyphs for extra fire-power."
"A lot of options, nice." Chuck commented, nodding his head even though he has no idea what Glyphs are.
"Thank you." Weiss nodded with a hint of pride in her voice.
"What kind of relationship you two have is up to you both, but it should be a good one if you want this partnership to be pleasant. You can at least start by finding ways to combine and enhance your powers and techniques together, along with looking out for one another so that the both of you can accomplish tasks and kick butt more effectively." Chuck said.
"I think I can get behind that." Ruby nodded.
"I do see the logic in it." Even Weiss found it acceptable.
"So…" Ruby offered her hand to shake with a hopeful smile. Weiss sighed before she accepted and shook her hand.
"We'll start with a professional partnership and… see where we go from there." The heiress said.
"Works for me." Ruby said while also fighting back the urge to give a delighted squeal.
"Excellent, now let's go to the temple." Chuck told them with a smile.
"You found it already?" Ruby asked.
"Red actually found the ruins first before I arrived, so he told me to get you guys. Don't worry, it's only about a few miles from here." Chuck answered.
"I'm sorry, only a few miles?!" Weiss questioned. "You made it sound as if it was a walk in the park!"
"It is. Here, let me prove it to you." Chuck said as he grabbed Weiss and hoisted her up in his right arm, much to her shock.
"Hey, wait… what are you…?!" She questioned as Chuck also hoisted Ruby up in his left arm, carrying both girls.
"Please keep your hands, arms, feet and legs inside the vehicle at all times for your safety. Thank you for your cooperation. Get ready…three-two-one-go!" Chuck said before zooming through the Emerald Forest, although Chuck is running slower because he's a bit worried that the girls may not be able to handle his speed.
Even though Chuck is running slower, that doesn't mean he's still not running fast. Ruby squealed with excitement as if she were riding a roller coaster, complete with holding her arms up as the wind blew in her face, blowing back her hair and hood. While Weiss screamed with terror, holding onto Chuck tightly for fear she might get flung away from the inertia.
It took only two minutes for Chuck to reach the temple with his passengers before coming to a stop and setting the girls down. "Thank you for riding Chuck's speedy ride. I hope you have a nice day." He said as Weiss fell flat on her knees, looking rather dizzy while Ruby zoomed up to Chuck with stars in her eyes.
"That was awesome!" Ruby ranted excitedly like a little girl. "You moved so fast! Way faster than me! Wait… can I even go that fast? We're both fast! We're fast friends!"
"Fast friends…that's a nice ring. Put 'em there." Chuck chuckled to Ruby's comments, offering his fist for a fistbump.
Ruby, once again, fought back a squeal of delight as she fist bumped Chuck, while Weiss managed to recover and pull herself up, shaking away the stars from her vision as she regained her senses, looking toward the ruins and the various relics set up on pedestals. "He got us here so quickly… crossing a few miles in a short time…" She thought to herself as she shot a quick glance back toward the man in yellow. "Just how fast is he?"
"Hey Chuck, Weiss and Ruby, glad to see you all in one piece." Red greeted with crossed arms.
"The relics are over there for you to take whenever you two are ready." Red said to the girls as he pointed to the direction where the relics are.
"Well Weiss…" Ruby told her, getting Weiss' attention. "Since we made it to the temple, let's get a relic."
Weiss could only nod, deciding to put her curiosity towards Chuck and Red aside for now as the test is first priority. She took a close look at each of the relics to find they were two sets of different chess pieces, a few white and the others were black.
"They're chess pieces…" Weiss muttered, trying to think of the significance behind them as she noticed a few empty pedestals. "A few relics are missing."
"Some students already got here first." Red explained.
"Oh well, can't come in first every time." Chuck shrugged.
"Let's pick the horsey!" Ruby exclaimed as she grabbed the white knight piece.
"Why?" Weiss asked.
"Because I love animals!" Ruby replied.
Weiss rolled her eyes. "Fine."
"Ruby!"
Chuck, Red and the girls turned to see Yang, accompanied by Blake, waving to Ruby.
Upon seeing her older sister, Ruby used her own speed to shoot herself toward her approaching sister.
"Yang!" Ruby appeared in front of her. "See?! I told you!" She pointed to Red behind her. "He's real! Red is real! I told you so!"
"Really? Oh…" Yang asked skeptically before she locked eyes with Red, in which he gave her a friendly wave.
"Okay, okay, I get it! You were right!" Yang held up her hands defensively. "I'm sorry for doubting you and thinking he was imaginary."
"So, you're Ruby's sister." Red approached her. "I don't see any resemblance. Is one of you adopted or something else?"
"Something else." Yang said, not wanting to reveal any familial issues with a person she only just met. "You're Red, right?"
"Yep, nice to meet you, Yang." Red said as he offered his hand for Yang to shake in which Yang accepted.
"Hi there, I'm Chuck, a friend of Red. And you are?" Chuck said as he introduced himself to Blake.
"Blake." Blake replied simply as the group of six came together to allow Yang and Blake to collect their relic, which also happened to be a white knight piece.
"How many of you are there?" Blake asked.
"Not counting Chuck and I, only three others. At least in the forest." Red answered. "I wonder how they're doing."
The group of six suddenly heard a series of explosions and whacking sounds, causing them to turn in the direction of the forest where several trees were knocked down to reveal a pair of Ursai, with Nora and Ren riding on one and The Blues riding on the other.
"Yee-haa!" Nora cheered as she fired her weapon Magnhild in its grenade launcher form into the back of her Ursa, causing it to explode as she flipped and landed gracefully on her feet while Ren landed face-first on the ground.
At the same time, Jake took out his bow and swung it down hard to crush the skull of the Ursa that he and his brothers rode before the brothers lept out of the Ursa and Jake landed on his feet, followed by Jay who landed on Jake and lastly Jim, landing on Jay and Jake, forming a three person tower.
"That was-" "Fun!" "Let's do it again!" The Blues cheered.
"Let's…never do that again." Ren said, causing The Blues to chuckle and help him get up on his feet. "Nora?"
"She's already gone." Jim gestured to the ruins where Nora noticed a white rook piece and took it in her hands.
"I'm Queen of the Castle! I'm Queen of the Castle!" Nora sang, balancing the white rook on her head.
"Nora!" Ren exclaimed, causing her to stop singing.
"Coming Ren!" She ran back happily to join her partner, while most of the present group looked somewhat perplexed at what just happened.
"Did they just ride in on an Ursa?" Blake asked.
"Looks that way." Red commented.
"Hey Red! Hey Chuck!" The Blues greeted their friends in unison as they ran toward Red and Chuck. "New friends that you made?"
"Yep, I see that you have new friends as well." Chuck replied, noticing Ren and Nora.
"Yeah! These people are fun!" Jake stated before turning to the other first-years present. "Hello everybody! I'm Jake!"Jake said. "The one above me is Jay and the one above Jay is Jim. You can also call us by The Blues!"
"Aren't you three too young to be fighting monsters?" Weiss asked, earning a blank look from the brothers.
"They compensate for their age with great teamwork and a big bag of tricks." Chuck told Weiss. "Maybe you can learn something from them."
"Aren't you all the cutest triplets ever!" Yang said while ruffling the hairs of the blue triplets, while Ruby is busy staring at the bows on the triplets' backs.
"That's a cool looking bow…"
A loud high-pitched scream suddenly sounded off throughout the entire Emerald Forest, getting the attention of everyone currently in the ruins.
"Is it just me, or is that a girl screaming?" Chuck asked.
At a far distance, in a cave in where the sound originated from, a girl rushed out right before a monster crashed through the hole, roaring and waving its scorpion-like claws as Jaune hung from the stinger of a Death Stalker,a scorpion-like Grimm, calling for help and continuing to scream.
The girl has long red hair tied back in a ponytail, with green eyes. She wore golden and bronze armor, along with a breastplate and thigh-high armored greaves, with a black skirt and a red sash tied over it making her look like an Amazonian warrior.
"Help! Whoa-ah-ah-ah-ah! Why?! Pyrrha! He-e-e-elp! Pyrrha, this is not the relic! It's not! Do something!" Jaune sobbed and pleaded to Pyrrha as he was hanging for dear life at the tail of the Death Stalker.
"Jaune! Whatever you do, don't let go!" Pyrrha shouted as she got out her javelin weapon, Miló and pointed at the Grimm to keep its distance from her. Before anyone made a single move, a blur striked at the side of the Death Stalker's Grimm gave a pained snarl and flailed its tail, shaking Jaune, causing him to lose his grip on the stinger and fall. Before he fell onto the Death Stalker's back, the same blur quickly ricocheted from a nearby tree and caught Jaune, before landing onto the ground while carrying Jaune, away from the Death Stalker.
It was a girl that looked as young and short as Ruby. She wore a silver sleeved shirt with a black sleeveless open front vest. She also wore black shorts and black bracelets along with silver and black shoes. She has silver hair with black undertones while her hair has a strange style as the longer ends of her hair are pointing behind her in an upwards direction.
"You ok?" The girl asked Jaune as she set him down.
"Yeah, thanks for saving me." said a giddy Jaune.
"Who are you?" Pyrrha asked, before she was interrupted by the Death Stalker's roar of anger.
"I'll introduce myself later, we need to go! Both of you! stand over there and wait for my signal! "
The girl shouted while pointing to a spot away from the Death Stalker. "I'll buy some time!" The girl then ran towards the Grimm, drawing out double-edged white blades that projected from her black bracelets, parrying the claw strikes of the Death Stalker.
"So what do we do next, absolutely nothing?"Jaune asked as he and Pyrrha ran to the spot that the girl pointed out. "Hold on, she told us to wait for her signal!" Pyrrha told Jaune.
"Get ready!" The girl shouted out while using her blades to try to push away the large stinger of the Death Stalker from her face.
"Get ready for what?" Jaune asked, getting a nervous look.
After successfully pushing the stinger away and retracting her bracelet blades, the girl then hopped onto the stinger, before she did a front flip onto the ground and performed a front handspring to launch herself into the air, falling between Jaune and Pyrrha.
"Jump!" The girl shouted as Jaune and Pyrrha followed her command, with the girl using her momentum to spring up and grab Jaune and Pyrrha by the back collars, before quickly jumping from one tree to another.
"Ahhh!" Jaune screamed for his dear life.
"How are you able to do that?!"
"One word: Physics!" The girl replied with a smile as she quickly hopped away from the Death Stalker, with Jaune and Pyrrha in tow.
The Death Stalker scurried after them, angry that someone stole its prey and the prey is getting away.
"Hey Red, maybe I should investigate the source of the noise, someone could be in danger." Chuck suggested.
"Alright Chuck, go see if they need any- "
"Look out from above!"
Everyone looked towards the sky to see a girl towing Jaune and Pyrrha falling towards them. They quickly made way as the girl let go, allowing Pyrrha to land on her feet, while Jaune tripped as he landed and fell face-first on the ground, followed by the unknown girl landing gracefully on her feet.
"That was certainly interesting… Thanks for the save." Pyrrha commented.
"You're welcome." the girl nodded with a smile.
"Yeah…thanks." Jaune groaned, his face still in the dirt before he pushed himself back up.
"Did that girl just fall here carrying two people by herself?" Blake questioned.
"Now who are you supposed to be?! You look like a student but I didn't even see you on the cliff!" Weiss exclaimed.
"My name is Silver. Nice to meet you." The girl said with a wink and a bow.
"Silver?!" The Flock looked at her with shocked expressions.
"Huh? How do you know my name… Red?! Chuck?! Blues?! Is that you?!" Silver exclaimed, pointing to Red, Chuck and The Blues respectively.
"It is us!" The Blues exclaimed with joy as the brothers gave Silver a hug.
"So, you ended up in this forest after passing through the portal?" Red asked.
"Yeah, but no time for explanations." Silver told him as she gently shoved The Blues aside. "I've spotted a whole bunch of monsters from the air and they're all coming here!"
"How many are we talking about?" Yang asked.
All fourteen of them suddenly heard a wolf-like howl as a massive pack of Grimm consisting of Beowolves, Ursai, Boarbatusks, and even several flying Grimm called Griffons that flew in the air before landing with their brethren. The horde encircled the whole area, separating The Flock and their student allies from the rest of the forest. The one that appeared to be leading was the very same Alpha Beowulf that Red, Ruby, and Weiss had encountered before.
"Fifty total, at least." Silver answered Yang's question as all the students looked surprised and even a little bit nervous while Chuck, Red and The Blues had serious expressions on their faces.
"Oh, great, Mr Wolfie is back." Red growled as he recognized the Alpha Beowolf.
"Please tell me someone has a plan." Blake said nervously as she drew out her weapon Gambol Shroud.
"Maybe if we all stand together in a defensive…" Pyrrha began to suggest, but Red held up his hand to stop her.
"Stay back, my friends and I got this."
"What?! Are you crazy?!" Weiss exclaimed. "That is over fifty Grimm!"
"We've dealt with worse odds before." Silver commented as she walked forward along with Chuck and The Blues to join Red while activating her bracelet blades.
"What could be worse than that?!" Jaune also exclaimed.
"You don't have to worry about us." Chuck said, whipping out his yellow nunchucks as an ivory electrical energy surged to life, connecting to the ends of the two sticks. "Your test was just to get those relics and make it back to the cliff. Ozpin only had us come here so he could see what we can do, and we plan to show him that."
"Are you sure?" Ruby asked with concern.
"Positive!" The Blues turned back and gave a thumbs up while using their free hand to put on their goggles before drawing out their bows. "Just sit back and enjoy the show. Food, drink and flash photography is strictly prohibited during the performance." Chuck said to the students, warming up by swinging his nunchucks around.
The Flock walked forward, closer towards the horde of Grimm before the Alpha Beowolf howled, sending all his brethren toward the group.
"It's showtime!" Chuck said before he went on the attack first, using his speed to charge his way through a group of Beowolves and a couple Ursa, before appearing in the center of a pack, taunting the Grimm by blowing a raspberry. Some of the Grimm fell for the taunt and leapt at him, but he quickly formed a large tornado by spinning his body rapidly in place, which sent all of them flying and crashing into their brethren.
With the Grimm disoriented, Chuck ran towards an Ursa, using his nunchucks and his speed to whack various areas of the Grimm before using the electrical "rope" to wrap around the Ursa tightly, causing it to disintegrate within a few seconds due to electrical shock and lack of oxygen before jumping up and spinning horizontally in a corkscrew motion to generate a propelling force of wind to push back several Grimm.
Three Griffons tried to fly down and claw at The Blues, but they quickly split away from their human tower by leaping out and doing a backhand spring before the brothers fired energy arrows at each Griffon's eyes and wings, blinding them and causing them to crash into the ground, which the blue brothers finished off the Griffons by jumping on the heads as if they were trampolines, if trampolines are hard, not bouncy and make cracking sounds and loud dying noises.
A Boarbatusk rolled towards Red, but he waited in anticipation just in time to grab its tusks just before it rammed him. Using his strength, he slammed the Grimm to the ground repeatedly before jumping high up and gave it one final grand slam into the ground, before forcibly plucked out its tusks and stabbed them at the Boarbatusk's neck, killing it.
Another Boarbatusk tried to charge and ram into Chuck, but he quickly side-stepped away from its rolling path, causing the attack to miss. As the Boarbatusk was turning around to ram Chuck a second time, Chuck noticed a long vine hanging from a nearby tree. Acting fast, he grabbed the vine and tied the vine on two nearby trees in the rolling Boarbatusk's path. "Strrriike!" Chuck cheered as the Boarbatusk was launched backwards by the vine, knocking away the horde of Grimm like a game of Bowling.
While Red screamed and slashed, Chuck darting around the area giving a flurry of nunchuck strikes to the Grimm, and The Blues mopping up the remainder of the Grimm from the area with their sniping skills, Silver found herself face-to-face with the Alpha Beowolf that lashed out its claws at her, which she parried with her blades.
She quickly ducked and deactivated her blades before executing a breakdance kick to the legs to trip it up. While it was down, Silver leapt into the air while activating her blades and stomped hard on the chest of the Alpha, crushing its ribs to ensure that it didn't recover and drove her blades deep into its skull, killing it.
With the Alpha dead, the remainder of the horde fell into confusion and panic, not that it mattered since there were only three Ursas remaining. "Want to do the honors, Chuck?" Red offered.
"Don't mind if I do!" Chuck accepted with glee as he vanished in a blur of yellow, engulfing the remaining Grimm with several rapid punches, kicks, and nunchuck strikes before headbutting the last Ursa hard in the head, cracking the skull and killing it as it fell to the ground.
"That's all, folks!" Chuck shouted triumphantly while stepping on the recently killed Ursa as it started to disintegrate, The Blues and Silver gave a four-way high five to each other, while Red stood beside Chuck awkwardly.
The students could only look in shock and amazement, wide and circular eyes with dropped jaws.
"Whoa…" Yang was rendered speechless.
"They have every right to be cocky." Ren commented.
"That was incredible…!" Pyrrha looked in awe.
"THAT WAS AWESOME!" Nora shouted with a wild and joyous look on her face.
"That was over fifty Grimm… and they made it look like nothing…!" Weiss stuttered.
"They even took down the Alpha so it couldn't escape… impressive." Blake remarked.
Ruby said nothing, but her silver eyes sparkled at their performance, a smile clear on her face. Knowing that even if they come from different worlds, there are good people in this world and beyond. That thought alone made her very happy.
However, all celebrations came to a quick end as a large caw drew all their attention toward the sky where they saw a Nevermore circling the area around them.
"Oh, great, a flying one. These Grimm are really getting on my nerves." Red groaned as he and his friends regrouped around the students.
A different kind of roar was heard from the forest as the same Death Stalker that Silver, Jaune, and Pyrrha encountered had broken its way through the trees to hiss at the group.
"Oh no… not that thing again…!" Jaune's face paled.
"It's a Death Stalker!" Weiss stated seriously.
As if things could go much worse, the entire ground suddenly shook, which followed the sounds of large stomps echoing around the forest and a large moan. From the canopy of the trees, they could see a large shape making its way closer to them, breaking down all the trees in its path as if they were twigs. It entered the clearing to reveal an enormous elephant-like Grimm that dwarfed even the Death Stalker.
"Woah!" "Is that-" "An elephant?!" The Blues exclaimed with surprise and awe while Jaune screamed like a girl. Again.
"A Goliath?! Here?!" Blake shouted.
Silver then turned toward the students. "You guys get what you need! We'll distract them!"
"What?! But we can help you!" Yang protested.
"No, they're right." Weiss pointed out. "We didn't come here to fight these Grimm. We were sent here to retrieve the relics and make it back to the cliff, that is all."
"Yeah, there's no point in fighting where we don't have to." Ruby added.
"Run and live, that is an idea I can get behind." Jaune said with a relieved smile.
"It's more like living to fight another day, but that counts too." Red remarked.
"But are you guys sure you can handle this?" Ruby asked The Flock. "Fifty Grimm is one thing, but these guys…
"Don't worry about us. You guys just worry about passing." Chuck told them before he and his team ran off to get the attention of the three large Grimm. "Hey! Nigel! Manny! Sir-Stings-A-Lot! Over here ya big dumb goofs!" Chuck taunted.
This caused the trio of larger Grimm to roar in fury as they chased the fleeing flock, saving the students some time as Jaune grabbed the white rook piece for him and Pyrrha. With all four pairs having retrieved their respective relics, they quickly make their way back to the cliff.
However, while the Goliath continued to chase The Flock, the Nevermore caught the sight of the eight students and gave a caw, which drew the attention of the Death Stalker. Both the flying and scorpion-like Grimm then turned away and went off in a certain direction.
"Uh oh…the Death Stalker and Nevermore aren't chasing us anymore!" Chuck pointed out. "I'll go and-"
"No, Chuck!" Red told him. "If one of us splits off, we risk leading this giant mammoth to the students!"
"Oh but leaving two big monsters to them is fine?!" Chuck shot back.
"With or without our help, our friends will still need to fight these monsters! We can't allow this Goliath to attack the students since they now have their hands full with these two!" Red explained.
"Alright then, but we'll retreat and help the students in the worst case scenario." Chuck said.
"Deal." Red nodded.
"Well, since we're all on the same page…" Silver smirked as she turned around to run backwards while also facing the Goliath. "What's the matter, Dumbo?! Is our little jog running you down?!"
The Goliath roared in fury as it picked up its pace, motivating The Flock to do the same and find a spot where they could deal with the elephant Grimm safely away from the students.
Ruby, Weiss, Jaune, Pyrrha, Yang, Blake, Nora, and Ren continued to run as they were getting closer to the cliff from where they started. The only thing separating them was a series of ruins, with a similar structure to an ancient castle, and a vastly deep chasm below.
However, Blake noticed a shadow flying overhead. "We have company!"
They all took notice of the Nevermore that flew over them, causing them to split up and take cover in the ruins around them as the Nevermore perched itself at the top of the tallest tower as it gave a load caw, effectively blocking their path.
"Well, that's great. I thought our new friends were handling it." Yang recalled.
"Probably doubled back when it saw us." Ruby assumed. "But we can take it."
"Incoming!" Pyrrha exclaimed, alerting the students to the incoming Death Stalker as well.
"Ah man, run!" Jaune exclaimed, leaving the group of eight with little chance but to push on ahead despite the Nevermore blocking their path.
"Nora, distract it!" Ren told her. She nodded in response as she rolled out of the way of the Nevermore's razor-sharp feathers it sent her way, and quickly drew out her weapon, Magnhild, and converted it into grenade launcher mode to open fire on the giant bird-like Grimm. This seemed to work as the explosive projectiles forced the Nevermore to fly away, but the Death Stalker quickly came up behind her.
Fortunately, Blake and Ren came to the rescue, swerving from opposite ends to slice at the front with their respective weapons. Weiss came to Nora's aid, conjuring a Glyph underneath both to allow them to jump and gain some distance.
As Ruby, Yang, Jaune, and Pyrrha continued to run on the stone bridge, they happened to glance to the far right at the sound of a roar and saw the Goliath chasing Red and his friends.
The Flock had emerged from the forest and were far enough from the ruins where the students were so they couldn't get mixed up in their own fight, but close enough to see the action. The six then came to a stop at the edge of the cliff and turned to face stampeding Goliath.
"Silver! Launch me!" Red ordered.
"Chuck! Decorate!" The Blues also ordered, handing the remaining cupcake bombs and some small white balls to Chuck.
"Got it!" They both nodded as Chuck ran around the Goliath, placing the lighted cupcakes and the white balls around the Goliath which quickly emitted smoke, temporarily blinding the Goliath while it roared in pain and fury when the cupcakes detonated.
With the Goliath distracted, Red ran towards Silver and jumped, landing on Silver's hands where she spring Red to the sky and towards the Goliath's face, with Red drawing out his sword at the ready.
Red's sword collided into the center of the Goliath's outer skull with enough force to stop its advance, and even crack the skull by a little bit, but it wasn't enough to do any major damage which Red noticed when he landed.
"Barely hurt that thing!" Red noted.
"Then let's put a little spin in the situation!" Chuck said as he zoomed toward the massive elephant-like Grimm with his fast speed, running circles around it, all while delivering punches, kicks and nunchuck whacks across its body.
However, the Goliath lifted both its front feet into the air before slamming them down to shake the ground with enough force and trip Chuck up.
However, Silver was quick to help as she had already pulled Chuck away from the Goliath's stomping range and toss him toward the Goliath, allowing him to land on its back, where Chuck proceeded to pound its backbone with a flurry of kicks, while Red joined up with Silver to try and attack it from underneath with The Blues firing energy arrows onto the skull in the spot where Red attacked in an attempt to crack the skull wider.
A loud caw from above suddenly interrupted the fight, revealing to be another Nevermore, circling around the Goliath and The Flock in the skies.
"COULD YOU NOT DISTURB US?! FOR FIVE MINUTES?!"
Red shouted, his patience finally worn out, while the Goliath was staggered back slightly by Red's screaming, because…you know, his angry screaming unleashes a red shockwave.
"It's too high up! I can't shoot it down!" Jim cried out as he tried to fire his arrows at the Nevermore but to no avail.
"Chuck! You still remember where the vine is, right?!" Silver asked as she was trying to deal some damage to the Goliath with her blades.
"Of course! Why do you ask?!" Chuck shouted back.
"Isn't it obvious?!" Silver shot back frustratingly as she used one of her blades to point at Red first and then to the Nevermore in the sky.
"Oh! Got it!" Chuck snapped his fingers upon realization. "Meet me over there!" Chuck told Red, pointing to a spot in between two trees which are at a far distance away from the Goliath.
Nodding in agreement, Red made a mad dash to the location Chuck pointed out while Silver, Jake and Jay continued distracting the Goliath with their attacks and Jim firing arrows to keep the flying Nevermore in one place. Chuck quickly returned with the vine that he used with the Boarbatusk and tied the vine to the trees to form a makeshift slingshot.
"How's it looking?" Red asked Chuck as he pulled himself back and aimed at the distracted bird-like Grimm.
"I think maybe you pulled back a bit too far. You're using too much power." Chuck commented.
"Really? I think I'm good. Here goes!" Red said before launching himself off the makeshift slingshot, drawing out his sword and spun his body in a ball shape with his sword making a ball-shaped buzzsaw that's heading towards the Nevermore's face...fast.
*SLICE!*
The Nevermore's head was split vertically by the zooming red buzzsaw as it fell to the ground and disintegrated.
Red also fell into the ground, but he was still spinning that caused him to accidentally slice down several trees, along with some Grimm that were in Red's way before losing momentum completely by slamming head first at a large rock, causing Red to uncurl and lie upside down while still holding his sword as the rock he hit slowly split into two by the impact.
Red groaned in slight pain as he looked at the sky, only to have his view of the clear blue sky cut short by the face of Chuck.
"Maybe you were right." Chuck said as he helped Red get back to his feet.
"Very funny, we still have bigger fish to fry." Red told Chuck as both ran back to the battle.
Meanwhile, back to the Goliath fight, Silver and The Blues were starting to get weary from attacking and dodging the Grimm's attacks while the Goliath showed no sign of tiredness, continuing to stomp around making earthquakes as if it was a child throwing a tantrum.
"I don't think we can hold out any longer! Should we retreat?" Jake shouted as he tried to aim for the Goliath's eye. "No! We have to distract it as long as we can until our new friends can retreat s-WOAH!"
Silver barely had time to react when the Goliath's trunk suddenly wrapped Silver around, lifting her up and flailing its trunk around with Silver on it. Silver tried to free herself by stabbing her blades onto the trunk, but The Goliath only roared in anger before throwing her down to the ground and covered her with the shadow of its foot.
"Silver!" Red, Chuck (both just happened to return to the Goliath fight) and The Blues cried out as the Goliath seemingly crushed Silver with a loud boom.
"Silver! Are you ok?!" a somewhat familiar voice rang in Silver's ears.
"W..Whuh?Am I…Dead?" Silver murmured as she slowly opened her eyes to see a large dark skinned man with a muscular build delaying the inevitable crush.
The man wore a black T-shirt and black army pants, along with a gray undershirt and gray socks. His hairstyle is a short ponytail with a yellow end on the long end of the ponytail, resembling a fuse.
"No you're not! Don't you recognise me? It's me, Bomb!" The man looked at Silver with worried eyes as he continued to hold up the Goliath's foot.
"Bomb! Good to see you, big guy!" Silver exclaimed as she crawled out underneath the Goliath's foot, grateful that she wasn't dead.
"This monster elephant's defense is too tough! Think you can break it?"
"I'll...t...try!...distract it!" Bomb groaned under the Goliath's weight."
"Alright!" Red, Chuck, Silver and The Blues all understood with a nod, invigorated that a friend has come to their aid. Silver lept towards the Goliath, using one of her blades to dig into the skull while using her other blade to stab repeatedly in its face, The Blues split up to fire their arrows in different directions, with Jim and Jay shooting at the Goliath's left and right sides respectively and Jake shooting behind the large Grimm. Red and Chuck ran literal circles around the Goliath with Red running in the clockwise direction while Chuck ran counterclockwise as the both of them unleashed their melee attacks.
While The Flock continued dealing with the Goliath so that Bomb could work his magic, Pyrrha had turned back to provide covering fire for Nora, Blake, and Ren. Converting her javelin, Milo, into a rifle and placing it over her shield, Akouo, and firing at the charging Death Stalker. This allowed the students to regroup as they ran across a stone bridge, but the Nevermore circled back around and delivered a headbutt into the bridge, breaking off a large piece of it and separating the students.
Ruby, Weiss, Yang, Jaune, and Nora ended up on the side near the tower with Ruby already pulling out her weapon, Crescent Rose to shoot the Nevermore as it flew away, while Jaune looked back to see Blake, Pyrrha, and Ren facing the Death Stalker alone, and it was not going well.
"Man, we gotta get over there! They need help!"
Nora ran to his side. "Let's do this!"
"Yeah… but uh…" Jaune looked down into the chasm, noting how wide a gap separated them from their fellow students. "I can't make that jump!".
Nora just smirked as she knocked him back with Magnhild before converting it into its hammer mode. She leapt into the air and slammed it into the ground, shattering that part of the bridge, while also catapulting Jaune over the gap.
"No! No! No!" Jaune screamed.
Nora then positioned herself on top of Magnhild's mallet and fired a grenade to send her soaring over the gap as well, using the gathered momentum to pull up on Magnhild and slam it into the Death Stalker. She saw its stinger about to lunge, but fired a grenade again to push her off and knock the Grimm further into the ground and avoid the stinger.
This action however, ended up pushing Blake off the edge and into the chasm. But she quickly threw one piece of Gambol Shroud, while it also fired to provide an extra boost to embed the blade into a piece of the bridge, where she used the ribbon to swing herself under the bridge and vault herself toward the Nevermore, producing a shadow-clone to further close the gap, where she sliced at the Nevermore's face repeatedly, producing another shadow-double to land on the Nevermore's back, rushing down and slicing with her weapon before leaping off its tail feathers to land on the perch of the castle ruins alongside Ruby, Yang, and Weiss.
"It's tougher than it looks!" Blake said.
"Then let's hit it with everything we got!" Yang stated as she readied Ember Celica.
Ruby briefly looked down toward Jaune's group fighting against the Death Stalker, while The Flock continued their battle with the Goliath. One look told her that they could handle themselves, they needed to focus on their own objective.
Ruby, Yang, and Blake fired their long-ranged gun attacks from their own respective weapons, while Weiss swung Myrtenaster to send waves of fire, ice, and lightning at the incoming Nevermore. But the flying Grimm seemed to pass by or tank several of the attacks before flying down to ram the supporting pillars of the tower, causing the entire structure to collapse.
But the girls remained calm as they used their respective Semblances and weapons, leaping from each piece of falling debris before landing on the bridge.
"None of this is working!" Weiss noted, which Ruby agreed with. But she also took notice of Blake using Gambol Shroud's ribbon, as well as Yang standing on a broken pillar, firing shotgun shots from her gauntlets at the circling Nevermore, along with remembering the crazy stunt that Red did.
"I have a plan! Cover me!"
Back with Jaune's group, the Death Stalker pulled its stinger back, causing what remained of the bridge that they stood on to collapse.
"We gotta move!" Jaune told them as the four quickly ran up the collapsing bridge, right as the Death Stalker lunged its right claw at them. But Pyrrha moved faster, using Akouo to parry and bounce the claw away, while Jaune used Crocea Mors' shield to block the left claw that swung at them. They both pushed back to clear the way and allow Ren to fire his weapon StormFlower at the Death Stalker's face before it lunged his stinger at him.
Ren dodged and grabbed the stinger as the Death Stalker pulled back, allowing him to shoot at the Death Stalker's back while Jaune and Pyrrha kept it distracted with their respective blades. Nora came in, firing more grenades from Magnhild, which the Death Stalker shielded itself from with its claws, also forcing Pyrrha and Jaune to slide back, though the latter did fall on his back. But Pyrrha threw out Milo in its javelin form, which also fired to provide an extra boost to embed itself in one of the Death Stalker's eyes. This caused it to screech in pain, flinging its stinger to send Ren flying and crashing into a nearby pillar.
"Ren!" Nora exclaimed.
Jaune pushed himself up to see the Death Stalker's stinger was partially dislodged and got an idea. "Pyrrha!"
"Done!" She saw his intent and threw out Akouo like a frisbee, slicing off the stinger and allowing it to fall and slightly pierce the Death Stalker's head as the shield returned to its owner.
"Nora, nail it!" Jaune ordered.
"Heads up!" Nora converted her weapon into its hammer mode and leapt toward Pyrrha, who caught her with Akouo before jumping up and vaulting Nora, just as she fired Magnhild again. The combined momentum sent the girl flying high into the air with a laugh before coming back down. She fired again to provide a bigger boost as she spun around, gathering more momentum before slamming her hammer into the embedded stinger, completely piercing and shattering the Death Stalker's armor, as well as the remainder of the bridge underneath it.
This action also helped to catapult Jaune and Pyrrha over the collapsing bridge just as Nora launched herself over with another shot from Magnhild. All three landed near the recovering Ren before they collapsed in exhaustion, with Ren and Jaune landing face-first, Nora on her bum bum, and Pyrrha on her hands and knees.
Meanwhile, Yang continued to fire multiple shots from Ember Celica at the circling Nevermore, and even got a lucky shot at the side of its face. But this only angered the beast as it flew at Yang, who leapt straight at its open mouth.
She used one arm to keep its upper beak from closing before firing several shots with her free hand down its throat. "I! Hope! You're! Hungry!" Seeing the Nevermore is about to close in on the cliff wall, Yang leapt off just in time, causing the Nevermore to crash into the cliffside before landing on the platform that Ruby, Weiss, and Blake were on as they had their own attack planned as well.
Weiss used her Glyphs to slide herself quickly across the bridge, gunning straight for the recovering Nevermore. She wouldn't give it a chance to fly away before using a Glyph to propel herself upward and lunge Myrtenaster into its tail feathers, creating a cluster of ice that kept the Nevermore pinned. Weiss then flipped backwards and used another Glyph to propel herself back to the main group.
Standing on a pillar, Blake threw out Gambol Shroud, extending its ribbon as Yang caught the weapon and embedded it into another pillar. Ruby then fired Crescent Rose to propel herself upward and land with the back of the scythe on the ribbon, her own feet on the weapon as well, while Weiss conjured a black Glyph to pull Ruby and the ribbon backwards, creating a massive slingshot that was aimed at the struggling Nevermore.
"Of course, you would come up with this idea." Weiss commented, readying herself.
"Think you can make the shot?" Ruby asked.
Weiss only smirked confidently. "Can I?"
This only makes Ruby look at Weiss in confusion. "Can y-"
"Of course, I can!" Weiss shot back.
Ruby loaded up Crescent Rose, reading another round of shots, while also combining her own Semblance with Weiss, causing the black Glyph to turn red before they let loose. The Glyph turned white as Weiss shot Ruby straight toward the Nevermore with an extra boost provided by Ruby's Petal Burst. She continued to fire from Crescent Rose to close the gap before catching the Nevermore by the neck with her scythe's blade, still firing to drag the Nevermore toward the cliffside just as Ruby landed.
Weiss quickly created a long line of large Glyphs under Ruby, leading straight to the top of the cliff. That gave her more speed, before she shot herself upward as she combined the speed of her Semblance with shots from Crescent Rose to drag the Nevermore up with her, while also driving the blade of the scythe deeper into its neck. Right as she reached the top…
*SLICE!*
She had completely decapitated the Nevermore, flipping through the air before landing gracefully at the top of the cliff. The Nevermore's body already began to disintegrate just as what was left of its corpse fell.
"Come on Bomb, it's your time to shine. You can do this, blow up! BLOW UP!" Bomb said to himself while trying to resist the Goliath from crushing him.
"Think of surprise parties!"
The end of his ponytail started smoking.
"Yoga poses!"
Sparks started flickering on the yellow end of his ponytail as if it was a fireworks show.
"A huge elephant monster that is going to crush me if…I…don't….BLOW UP!"
Bomb is shaking mad as if he had a seizure while his ponytail suddenly bursts into flames and his natural black eyes briefly turned red, (kind of like angry Yang) which Chuck quickly noticed.
"TAKE COVER! HE'S GONNA BLOW!" Chuck called out to everyone as he used his speed to quickly transport his friends away from the blast zone and back to the cliff starting with Red via piggyback, followed by Silver by carrying her in a cradle position, since she is shorter than Chuck, and finally The Blues by having Jim and Jake hugging his arms tightly and Jay riding on Chuck's shoulders. The Goliath was about to stop stomping Bomb and chase after Chuck and The Blues upon noticing them but it was already too late.
*BOOM!*
A huge gust of wind along with a sudden huge flash of light enveloped the students, but they already took cover from the wind, the bright light and the incoming debris thanks to Chuck's early warning before they quickly ceased, as they looked up, they saw a huge crater on the ground, numerous burnt trees, a huge dark mushroom cloud hanging in the sky and the Goliath Grimm is nowhere to be seen, replaced by a big pile of ash that covered the crater.
"'Make way for me!" A smoking soot-covered Bomb shouted as he flew in the air before having a rough landing at the top of the cliff and ended up lying down on his stomach, next to the shocked Ruby, who managed to dodge out of Bomb's flight path just in time.
Jaune's group looked in shock and amazement. "Wow…" The blonde boy looked in awe, while Pyrrha and Ren looked at the aftermath of the explosion in shock. Nora has been rendered speechless with stars in her eyes after seeing such a huge explosion.
"Holy crap…" Yang muttered as she stood with Blake and Weiss, the former holding her hands over her bowtie for some reason.
"H-He…l-literally exploded...!" Weiss stuttered.
"Hence his name…" Blake said.
Bomb dusted most of the soot off him when he turned to see Ruby, who held her hands near her cheeks as her silver eyes sparkled and a squealing sound was heard from her mouth, like she was ready to explode with joy.
"That… was… AMAZING!" She practically screamed. "How'd you do that?! That was so cool! Oh, that's why you're called Bomb! I've never seen anyone being able to literally explode! And you managed to kill the Goliath! You're awesome! Your friends are all awesome!"
"We sure are, now let's get out of here!" Bomb said with a hearty laugh.
Back at the school, all the returning first years had gathered in the auditorium for the official formation of their team. Among them was a group of four young men that stood before Professor Ozpin as the holographic screen above showed the students names and faces, as well as their team name.
"Russel Thrush, Cardin Winchester, Dove Bronzewing, Sky Lark… the four of you retrieved the black bishop pieces." Ozpin announced. "From this day forward, you shall work together as Team CRDL, led by Cardin Winchester."
Following an applause from the audience, the newly formed Team CRDL stepped away and allowed Jaune, Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren to step up next.
"Jaune Arc, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Nikos, Nora Valkyrie… the four of you retrieved the white rook pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as Team JNPR, led by Jaune Arc."
While Jaune looked in surprise, Nora leapt at Ren with a hug. "H-huh? L-Led by…?" Jaune did not expect to be made leader, but Pyrrha smiled
"Congratulations, young man." Ozpin told him.
Pyrrha gave Jaune a friendly punch in the shoulder, but this knocked him down onto the ground, much to her surprise and the amusement of the audience before they stepped off and allowed the final team to step up.
"And finally, Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, and Yang Xiao Long… the four of you retrieved the white knight pieces. From this day forward, you will work together as Team RWBY, led by Ruby Rose."
None were more shocked by that than Ruby herself, even as her older sister pulled her into a hug.
"I'm so proud of you!" Yang said with joy.
At the same time, the ceremony was witnessed by The Flock as they stood from the highest part of the auditorium, away from the audience. Though the rest of Beacon would probably come to know Red and his friends at a later date, it was still best to let the newly formed RWBY and JNPR have their moment, they deserved it after all.
"Teams RWBY and JNPR, huh? It does have a nice ring to it." Bomb said.
"I've got a feeling that we'll be working more with them in the future." Red said.
"What makes you say that?" Silver asked.
"Call it a hunch." Red replied.
"Oh, speaking of hunches, can we speak outside for a moment?"
"Alright then." Silver nodded her head as she motioned Chuck, Bomb and The Blues to follow them.
The Flock walked out of the auditorium and further away, and since all of the students and professors were in the auditorium, it was extremely quiet and empty.
"So to summarize…you and Bomb somehow ended up in the forest, while I ended up in the city, while Chuck and The Blues ended up in places that we don't know at the moment." Red said after listening to Silver and Bomb's recap of their first time in Remnant.
"I didn't know the forest had these… monsters called Grimm. It was night time when I ended up there, but I did find out about these bracelets, which helped me get the fire wood. Although it's very strange that I was never attacked by them. They take a good look at me and ignore me." Silver recounted.
"I have similar experiences as you, Silver." Bomb said. "For the wood, I can handle it without any weapons, while lighting the fire is another issue entirely, until I realized I can do… this!" Bomb's hands suddenly burst into flames, surprising the rest of The Flock.
"Woah! That's new!" The Blues watched with awe.
"I know right?" Bomb said as he blew out the flames on his hands like extinguishing a candle.
"For the reason why no monsters attacked you, we were told that in this world called Remnant that living beings here except Grimm, which is apparently the name of these monsters, have some sort of life force called Aura, which attracts these monsters. And since we are not from this world, we all don't have Aura." Red explained to Silver and Bomb.
"Speaking of worlds, we all went through the same portal back in Piggy Island, but how did we end up in different areas of Remnant? And why would they go to this crazy world instead of somewhere else in our homeworld?!" Chuck exclaimed.
"Hmm…" Silver thought out loud to herself, tapping her chin.
"My first theory is that since we keep stopping the pigs' schemes every time in earth, they might have decided to do their schemes in another world, so they ended up here in Remnant, out of our reach. How they got the portal is a mystery since neither Professor Pig, Foreman Pig nor Dr. Pig are capable of making such a device even with their combined efforts. Since The Pigs forgot to turn the machine off before they left, the portal remained on and its systems went haywire due to long extensive use, so we ended up in different places when we all entered the portal, although we also forgot to turn off the portal as well." Silver said as she face-palmed herself. "I hope the portal doesn't become too unstable."
"What's your second theory?" Bomb asked.
"Hey, you! Yes, you! I'm talking to you!" Silver suddenly shouted angrily to no one in particular, while pointing to the ceiling, much to The Flock's surprise and confusion.
"Don't think you can hide from me, coward! I can literally see you! You ain't fooling no one! I know you are there playing with some magic thing that can alter history with your immature hands! Stop playing with that thing, come down here, say you're sorry and fix this mess right now!"
"Uh…" "Silver?" "You okay?" The Blues asked with concern.
"I'm fine, Blues. That was an experiment for my second theory: There is a greater being that has the power to manipulate events that are happening to us. But since nothing happened after my ranting, it might seem a little far-fetched." Silver replied.
"The first theory seems more reasonable. Anyways, Silver, Bomb, have these scrolls as a welcome gift to Beacon Academy from Ozpin, the headmaster of this school. Don't worry, Chuck and The Blues already have their own scrolls." Red said, handing two scrolls to Bomb and Silver.
"These things are called scrolls? Pretty weird to give the name of an ancient piece of paper to a high tech communications device." Bomb remarked as he carefully examined the scroll.
"Interesting...I might be able to give it a few tweaks and upgrades to this." Silver commented as she also examined her scroll.
"You can do that?" Red asked with a raised eyebrow.
"My dear friend Red, I'm deeply offended by your remark. I was raised by pigs, allowing me to learn the piggies' building talents, and when the eggspark crashed in Piggy Island, we were introduced to highly advanced technology that we have difficulty using. Sure, our old friend Astrotrain was kind enough to teach us about the new technology, but it was Windblade, Nautica, Heatwave, Bluestreak and Bumblebee that learnt about the technology quickly and helped out the remaining Autobirds that are still struggling. You should still remember which Autobird is who, right, Optimus Prime?" Silver replied sarcastically in front of Red's face with crossed arms.
"Sorry that I asked." Red said with a sigh while lowering his head in shame. "You can try doing that at our dormitory apartment." Red continued, using his thumb to point behind him.
"Apology accepted. Lead the way." Silver said with a smile.
Whooowee! Making Bacon!
Teams are born, Silver and Bomb are reunited back in The Flock, and Silver is going to spice things up!
I've decided to include Bomb's fiery powers from the Super Angry Birds comic along with his natural explosive abilities because not only does it seem cool, it also highlights why Bomb has no weapons: HE IS THE WEAPON, IT'S IN THE NAME.
As for Silver, I like the concept of her being a physics and gadget expert from the movie, being a "Looping Legend" and according to the game lore of Angry Birds 2, she was raised by The Pigs that can build a heap load of things. Seriously, have you seen what they can build? (The Jet plane built in IDW's Angry Birds comics being an example. Yes, I took it seriously. Don't judge me.)
Silver could go for being a tactician as she did in the movie, so I've decided to give her bracelet blades "borrowed" from a "chipmunk".
If you're wondering who is, he is known in games such as Friends and Fight! for creating monstrous creations such as The Blob and the giant monster pigs respectively, kind of like a mad scientist. He seems like an interesting character so I added him in.
The story would obviously be close to or stray away from official RWBY canon as it goes on, so expect some people that die canonically would either still die or survive. Some people that will die may die in a different way due to The Pigs and The Flock's arrival.
Feel free to ask any questions, give feedback or even guess which missing flock member/s will appear next. Who knows, I might reply back to you here.
