Over the ocean a Quinjet was flying low to the water, moving at high speeds to an unknown destination. Inside two pilots were guiding the craft to their destination while Coulson was looking over some readouts on a nearby terminal.

"We're about forty minutes out from base, sir." The pilot informed Coulson, who nodded his head.

Steve Rogers, Captain America, the embodiment of the American ideal, the world's first Super-Soldier was feeling massively underprepared as he was on the other side of the Quinjet. He was reading the briefing file that Coulson had handed to him when he boarded the Quinjet, and he was currently feeling that perhaps he should have stayed in the ice.

When he had gone under the world had been in the midst of another World War and he had encountered some bizarre things, but nothing like what he was reading: men turning into giant green monsters, flying metal war suits out of science fiction novels, and apparently space alien gods that made him look like that scrawny kid from Brooklyn again.

When Fury had arrived at his local gym, talking about the Tesseract, ghosts, Norse extraterrestrials and an ultimate power source, then asked for his help in saving the world, Steve in truth had actual doubts about whether to get involved or not. Not because he was afraid but because in truth Steve was tired and wasn't sure he had it in him to fight anymore. He had fought one world evil only to lose everything and wake up in a strange world where no one he knew was around anymore and nothing looked familiar.

However, Steve had also known that he would answer the call, it was just who he was. Hydra, intergalactic conquerors, it didn't matter, when someone was in trouble he had to help.

He had just watched a video on Danny, he wanted to know more of the kid that was across from him. It showed old videos of him fighting ghosts, apparently they are real and not made up. Who knew? This really surprised the super soldier as he sees a clip of Danny transforming into his ghost form before fighting Vlad Plasmius, one of the upcoming villains he will be facing. The device in his hands then played a recorded video of a large green monster tearing through several tanks as if they were tissue paper while soldiers shot at it without effect. Steve's eye moved to the top left of the screen where an image of a man with glasses was placed with the name Dr Bruce Banner labeled underneath.

"So, this Doctor Banner was trying to replicate the serum used on me?" Steve asked as put the strange object down, wanting to try and get a clear picture of what he was walking into.

"A lot of people were." Coulson replied honestly as he moved across the plane to stand next to his idol. "You were the world's first superhero, well, human one I mean."

"Right, yeah, ghosts." Steve said hesitantly, still not sure how to deal with that new aspect of the world, but for now he was just going with it in hopes it would just become normal.

"Yep, the world's gotten a little stranger since your day." Danny admitted as he spoke up after being quiet for hours as he knew full well how disconcerting the concept could be.

Coulson then let out a deep breath and tried to straighten himself as Captain America looked up at him. "I gotta say, it's an honor to meet you, officially I mean. I've sort of met you. I mean, I watched you, while you were sleeping…." Steve gave the starstruck secret agent a polite smile as it was a bit of an awkwardness, and creeped out.

"Smooth, Phil." Danny said while rolling his eyes as Coulson had tried not to fanboy.

"I mean I was present while you were unconscious, from the ice." Coulson tries to correct himself.

Steve then stood up and moved over to the cockpit to look at where they were going, slightly amused by the SHIELD agent tripping over himself as he tried to talk to him. Though it may have sounded strange, it was actually the one thing Steve found familiar as he remembered regular soldiers, a few officers and most civilians acting like Coulson back in the day. Whilst he would have preferred everyone to act normal around him, he found it strangely comforting that at least one thing about the world was the same.

"You know, it's really just a huge honor to have you onboard this…" Coulson trailed off, realizing he was sounding like an idiot as he moved over and stood next to Steve who was looking out at the ocean.

"I hope I'm the man for the job," Steve said more to himself than to Coulson who overheard Steve's comment.

"Well, I'm definitely the right ghost for the job." Danny said to Steve as he too stood up and walked near the two men.

With Coulson fanboying, it reminded him back in highschool where everyone, even the A'Lister were trying to be friends with him, Sam, and Tucker. Like the last fifthteen years of torment from them meant nothing. Honestly it was kind of pathetic the way the A-Listers were acting as they only seem to care for his ghost side then his human side. But with Coulson it was understandable as he is a huge fan of his human side for all the things he had done. With him leading the teenagers to save their family to him planning on helping the world for free as he does what he does right.

"Oh, you both are. Absolutely." Coulson spoke with almost childlike admiration as he stared at Steve and Danny before he coughed continuing on. "Uh…we made some modifications to the uniform. I had a little design input."

"The uniform?" Steve asked in confusion as he looked over at Coulson "Aren't the stars and stripes a little… old-fashioned?"

"With everything that is happening, and the things that are about to come to light, people might just need a little old-fashioned." Coulson assured him.

Steve and Danny didn't reply as they merely looked out of the cockpit window in front of them.

Danny does admit that what Coulson says is right. He does feel confident that he will stop Vlad from whatever he is planning. Even if he is now working with a partner, Danny wonders how long that'll last before their egos get the better of them. Regardless Danny is ready to fight Vlad once more and put him behind bars for the crime he had committed over the years.

Steve's mind was turning over Coulson's statement in his head and he couldn't argue that sometimes people just needed something familiar to get used to something weird. He was just surprised that out of whatever was about to happen, he was the most normal thing there was, and suddenly chuckled to himself.

He was also apparently old fashioned, if only Bucky was alive to hear that, he would never have let him live it down.

In an underground tunnel, the floor wet and the stone pillars crumbled from ware and mold. Two armed soldiers ran down the tunnel and entered a wide open laboratory, dozens of scientists and armed soldiers working.

Selvig and Tucker were in a decontamination room working on a new Tesseract containment device.

Not too far away Vlad and Loki were seated with the scepter in the Asgardian hands before him as they watched the pathetic insects that they had enthralled work before them. They had been very impressed by what their new followers had achieved so far they had only really enthralled the Archer, techno geek, and the Doctor because they were close to Loki's brother and Vlad's 'nephew' and therefore useful pawns. However, the three mortals had proved surprisingly resourceful, the archer had gathered a small army of mercenaries and foes of this SHIELD group that opposed him, with Tucker and Doctor Selvig making great progress with the Tesseract.

However, before Vlad and Loki could speak to each other, the Asgardian felt a tug at his mind and saw his scepter glow more brightly. He did not fight the feeling that washed over him; instead he closed his eyes and found himself in the darker edges of the cosmos. In the area of space his dark patron called Sanctuary, Loki looked up and saw both his astral projection as well as Vlad's standing before his patron's herald: the cowardly creature Loki and Vlad knew only as the Other.

"The Chitauri grow restless" The Other's flanged echoing voice sounded out all around him despite the being standing less than two meters away.

"Let them gird themselves," Loki responded dismissively as he waved his hand. "We will lead them into glorious battle."

"Battle?" The Other questioned as if the god was speaking nonsense "Against the meagre might of Earth?"

"Glorious, not lengthy…" Vlad remarked as he walked confidently in a circle around his dark patron's herald. ".. If your force is as formidable as you claim. And I would remind you that Daniel is here and could cause complications."

"You dare two question us?! YOU TWO QUESTION HIM?!" The Other snapped his head towards Loki and Vlad, vile disgust radiating off of him. "Your nephew is nothing to my master, the one that put the scepter in your hands. Who gave you both ancient knowledge and new purpose when you two were cast out and defeated?" The Other tells them with disgust.

"I was a king!" Loki and Vlad snapped, their own indignation rising at the perceived insult to their past triumphs.

"The rightful King of our worlds, betrayed." Vlad spoke with a hint of sadness.

The Other scoffed in disgust. "Your ambition is little and born of childish need." Loki and Vlad shook their heads as they looked towards the path towards the throne. "We look beyond the Earth, to greater worlds the Tesseract will unveil." The other spoke confidently as he turned his gaze to the cosmos above them speaking with almost childlike awe of the future he could see.

"You don't have the Tesseract yet." Loki pointed out.

The Other hissed, his form shifting and speeding to where Loki and Vlad was, his bloody teeth revealed in a snarl and his six-fingered hand raised up in attack, more of his face revealed to see that his upper half of his face was covered by black bands.

"We don't threaten lightly." Vlad clarified calmly. "But until we open the doors, until your force is ours to command, you are but words."

"You will have your war, Plasmius." The Other lowered his hand and spoke. "If you two fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us," The Other leaned in and walked past a still Loki and Vlad and circled them. "There will be no realm, no barren moon, no Crevice where he cannot find you two." The Other stood behind Loki and Vlad while he growled.

"You think you two know pain?" The Other whispered into Loki and Vlad's ear. "He will make you long for something as sweet as… pain."

The Other then suddenly placed his hand on Loki and Vlad's face and the two felt themselves pushed out of their astral projection by force, an incredibly painful event. As they groaned and blinked hard trying to force the last vestiges of pain from his head, they both looked at each other as they knew they cannot fail.
