Black Widow and Flash moved towards the device powering the Tesseract. "The Scepter…" Black Widow and Flash heard looking to see a man laying by the edge of the roof, looking down at something.

"Doctor." Black Widow acknowledged him.

"Loki's scepter. The energy…" The doctor continued as Black Widow and Flash walked up to him. "The Tesseract can't fight, but you can't protect against yourself."

"It's not your fault." Black Widow comforted the guilty scientist. "You didn't know what you were doing."

"Actually, I think I did." Selvig revealed to Flash and Black Widow's surprise.

"What do you mean?" Flash asked.

"I built in a safety to cut their power source." The doctor revealed.

Flash's eyes widened, realizing what Selvig meant. "Loki's Scepter." He said.

"It may be able to close the portal." The doctor nodded, looking down to the terrace below, where it laid. "And I'm looking right at it."

The god of Thunder and Lightning was beginning to regret ever returning to Earth as he fought for control of the chariot he was on. As the Chitauri kept on coming, knocking aside the passengers– one who inadvertently killed the driver. As the vehicle careened towards a building, a Leviathan burst from it. Thor was knocked aside by the massive beast, as the building it emerged from began to collapse.

As the Leviathan continued slithering through the city, Iron Man flew beside it, firing his red laser from his wrists on its armored side. "Sir, we will lose power before we penetrate that shell." J.A.R.V.I.S., Iron Man's AI informed him.

Iron Man complied and stopped the laser before flying faster, flying around several buildings till the Leviathan was in his path. "J.A.R.V.I.S., you ever hear the tale of Jonah?" Tony asked.

"I wouldn't consider him a role model." J.A.R.V.I.S. warned in concern.

Along Iron Man's legs appeared a series of missiles. He moved forward without changing his course, heading straight for the maw of the giant Leviathan. It let out a roar and its jaw opened wide, yet Tony did not deviate course, only bracing himself.

He flew right into the mouth of the monster, unleashing his arsenal within the belly of the beast, blowing out chunks of its body from within, bursts of flame exploding through the armor, before the tail end of the creature exploded off and Iron Man was catapulted away. The Leviathan collapsed to the ground dead while Tony was flung from the explosion and crashed through a newspaper stand before hitting a taxi and collapsing to the street.

Iron Man groaned and stood up, that's when a group of Chitauri soldiers opened fire, pushing him back and knocking him to the ground. He was still dazed as they advanced on him with the intent to kill.

Supergirl let out a grunt noise as she flies through seven chariots, causing massive explosions to happen at each other. She has been fighting these aliens for hours and getting easier each minute.

She then saw a giant leviathan coming out of the portal and sweep through the city and go through buildings destroying everything in sight. Knowing she needs to stop it, she flies after it.

After reaching the creature, she uses her heat vision to blast a giant hole into the leviathan, screaming in pain. She then grabs the creature's head before tossing it to the portal where more leviathans were trying to emerge.

But because Supergirl threw one of them back to them, it caused them to collide and destroy all four at once, making a massive explosion in the process.

Seeing more Chitauri on their chariots, she flies over to do some more damage and saves a smooch of the city that is left.

On the rooftop, a Chitauri soldier snuck up on Hawkeye, but he turned quickly and killed it before it could do the same to him. Another climbed over the side of the building as Hawkeye reached for an arrow, but quickly glanced back to see he had none left. Improvising, He then stepped forward and used his bow as a staff to knock the Chitauri over the edge while chipping his bow a bit..

Hearing the sound of chariots, he turned to see a sizable fleet approaching his position. He was in trouble. He rushed over to the downed soldier, ripping the arrow from its head and placing it back in his quiver, quickly selecting his final arrowhead as the Chariots began opening fire. He leapt over the side of the building, turning in the air to fire at the arrow at the side of the building.

The arrow latched onto the side of the building as he grappled down the side of the building, the line going taut as he smashed through the window. He rolled to a stop, letting out a groan of pain as he landed on his back and was unable to stand up.

Green Arrow runs toward the army and easily beats them like they were nothing. Green Arrow at one point kneeed a creature in the chest before kicking another Chitauri in the face. Two come towards him, but he shot his arrow which turns out to be a double arrow. During mid-air when the arrow was shot, it began to split into two before hitting its targets in the shoulders knocking them both down. One got on top of him as he tries to struggle with the archer, but the hero quickly threw him to the ground. But not before releasing another arrow, tasing the Chitauri.

One Chitauri tries to charge at Green Arrow but merely gives the Chitauri a roundhouse kick to the face. Turning around quickly he dodges a blast of blue energy from the villain's rifles before shooting his arrows at them, knocking them down in the process. Another tries to charge at him but Green Arrow grabs him and uses his strength to throw the Chitauri toward a group of them making them all tumble to the ground in pain.

Green Arrow then runs and jumps and manages to jump on their shoulders and uses his momentum to flip them onto the ground. He then punches one in the face knowing a few teeth's were knocked off as he shoots another arrow at the ground causing them to be caught in the net. Before they could even try to escape they were instantly electrified to dust. Turning around he shot another one in the shoulder as he turned back around and used his bow to block the incoming attack. Green Arrow quickly side sweep them before engaging more Chitauris in combat as he notices he is out of arrows as well.

The Hulk was smashing two soldiers into the ground before swiping and tossing aside others, until he was struck in the back by a bolt of blue energy. He turned and a fleet of chariots were all positioned over him, the lead Chitauri raising his hand and thrusting it forward. A second later, all the Chitauri all opened fire and overwhelmed him with energy blasts. The Hulk staggered back, raising his hands to shield himself from the blasts as he let out a roar of discomfort and pain.

In the Helicarrier, a lone pilot was preparing his craft for takeoff. He was being spoken to by one of the members of the World Security Council. "Director Fury is no longer in command." The Councilwoman addressed a pilot in a jet, his jet rising up from the hanger of the Helicarrier. "Override order 7-Alpha-1-1." She ordered.

"7-Alpha-1-1, confirmed." The pilot confirmed, the bay doors opening. "We're go for takeoff."

Back on the bridge, Fury was finding that every positive action today was immediately followed by several tons of crap, burning flaming crap. Case and point, the giant alien death machine that had been threatening to destroy all life had just exploded, excellent positive progress, which was immediately followed by the council launching a nuclear strike on Manhattan.

"Sir, we have a bird in motion!" Hill's voice called over the clamor of the command deck as the ship was still trying to stabilize following the world engine's destruction. She then scrambled over to her console pressing every button she could to try and stop the launch. "Anyone on deck, we have a rogue bird. We need to shoot it down. Repeat: takeoff is not authorized!"

Fury's eye swiveled to the screen next to him showing a single jet on the carrier deck ready to launch, a tactical nuclear payload fixed to it.

Fury wasted no time as he pushed off the console he was at and started running for the flight deck.

As he reached the deck, he pulled a bazooka in hand and watched the rogue jet start its run, however, the bird never reached its target as Fury fired the rocket. The rocket struck the right wing of the jet, the flaming jet sliding down the rest of the runway and stopping just on the ledge. Fury lowered his bazooka, releasing a slow controlled breath, sigh of relief that nothing is leaving the helicarrier.

However, his relief turned into a snarl as he saw a second jet launch off of the underdeck. Fury's hand came up too late to get a shot off.

Fury watched the jet soar off at speed obviously under orders to launch its deadly payload as soon as possible. Fury reentered the Helicarrier, brought up his hand to his comm device and tried every channel that was active in quick succession until he got the response team. "Stark, do you hear me? You have a missile heading for the city."

"How Long?" Iron Man's voice called over the radio as what sounded like scraping metal and fighting was blaring in the background.

Iron man was trying to get up only for a Chitauri to slam the blade of his weapon down onto his helmet, sending the billionaire genius back down to the ground.

"Three minutes, max." Fury said as he got back inside the helicarrier and pulled up the specs for what had just been launched, a deep feeling of dread as he saw which warhead the council had ordered used. "The payload will wipeout Midtown."

"Got it." Iron Man said as he blasted the enemies away from him he was fighting. "J.A.R.V.I.S., give me everything into the thrusters!" He orders his AI.

"I just did." J.A.R.V.I.S. replied, Iron Man rising up, knocking away the Chitauri trying to grab onto him, and flew off to the sky.

The Jet arrived off the coast, heading towards the city. He flipped the switch to press the button, a hatch opening beneath the craft and releasing a single missile. "Package is sent. Detonation is in 2 minutes, 30 seconds. Mark." The pilot declared. A wide shot of New York was seen, the city was massive, much of the inner city was destroyed, but for miles, buildings remain standing. Soon they would be reduced to rubble.
