"Hey Babe! You're home awfully early." Rory said as she saw Logan walking down the hallway from the garage, toward the family room. Rory stopped in her tracks when she saw Logan reach his arm out toward her, and pull her into a tight hug. "Is everything ok? I know that the party can't possibly be over because it just started less than an hour ago."
"Thank you for not being related to me." Logan sighed as he held onto his wife.
"Um, babe, I AM related to you. There's a fancy piece of paper in the safe that says so."
"But not by blood . . . It makes you normal."
"Ok . . . So then what does that mean for our daughter?"
"Let's run away. Far, far away. Let's leave right now, and never come back."
"Alright, tell me what happened." Rory sighed, pushing her husband away from her enough, so she could see his face.
"I feel sick."
"Like physically sick? What happened? You felt fine when you left."
"It's not so much of what happened, but who."
"Hey Dad? Do we have any beer?" Rory called out, reaching for Logan's hand, then dragging him behind her toward the kitchen.
"You want beer?" Luke called back. "Oh, hey Logan. You're back early."
"He needs alcohol."
"Alright, what happened?"
"Where are lane and April?" Logan asked as he sat down on a bar stool.
"Upstairs putting Ayribella down for a nap. I finished feeding her a couple minutes ago, and they were excited to burp and snuggle her, so they took her upstairs and told me to take a break. We were going to do mani pedis when they come down."
"You could always go out to get mani pedis."
"Really? 3 days after having a baby that nobody knows about?"
"Sorry, I'm not all here right now. You can go out if you want to. We can figure it out."
"Logan, I'm not going anywhere. Start talking, tell me what happened."
"Here you go." Luke said, handing Logan a beer, then popping one open for himself. "Rory, do you want anything?"
"I'm ok, but thank you." Rory answered.
"So, what's going on?" Luke asked.
"Do your parents know about the Walker situation?" Logan asked, looking to Rory.
"My mom does."
"What's the Walker situation?" Luke asked.
"Walker is this trampy friend of my sisters that isn't so much of a friend after all. You now all of those properties that HPG owns that Rory wants your help with?" Logan started.
"There are a bunch here in the city, right?"
"One of them is occupied by Walker, who we found out has been sleeping with my Dad for the past 8 or so years."
"Wait, hold up. Your sister's friend has been sleeping with your Dad?!"
"It gets worse." Rory commented.
"How much worse?"
"My Dad apparently gave Walker a free apartment and possibly a salary for doing absolutely nothing, after he 'accidentally' knocked her up, and then paid for her to have an abortion." Logan continued.
"Wow! And you just found this all out?"
"Just a couple weeks ago. I told Honor about it the other day."
"How did she take it?"
"She's mad."
"She should be! He 'friend' is sleeping with her married father."
"Mitchum isn't even the first of Walker's friends' parents that she's had an affair with." Rory told him.
"So this chick has a history then?"
"A LONG one." Logan confirmed.
"Wait a second, so you said that she's been having an affair with your Dad, got pregnant, he paid for an abortion, and then he gave her a free apartment and a salary that she does nothing to earn?"
"That's correct. We have yet to confirm the salary, but after the conversation I had with her a little while ago, I'm pretty sure that she's getting one. Collin is still researching it."
"So your Dad is paying this girl to have sex with him."
"Pretty much."
"That's illegal."
"I know."
"It's called prostitution."
"I know."
"Both her and your Dad can be criminally charged for it."
"I know."
"And he's paying her through your company?"
"Most likely." Rory told him.
"And she's living in a company owned apartment, completely rent free?"
"That is correct."
"That's fraud." Luke told them.
"Yep!" Rory agreed.
"You could lose your company over something like that, if it were to get out."
"Yep."
"You could lose your home!"
"Yes, we know."
"That stuff would completely destroy your reputation, and everything that you've both worked so hard for!"
"Pretty much." Logan agreed, taking a sip of his drink.
"Would you like another beer?"
"I might need something stronger."
"Well beer is all that I've got. I don't have the code to your safe."
"Beer is good. Thank you, Luke."
"So what are you guys going to do about all of this?"
"I don't really know right now. We are trying to keep everything very quiet while we do all of the research, and get everything in order."
"We've already served most of the evictions here in the city. So far this one, we know the most about. We are pretty sure that there are other mistresses out there, but as of right now, this is the only one that we are positive about."
"How did you find out about all of this?" Luke asked.
"The building Walker lives in is owned by my buddy Finn's family." Logan began explaining. I asked Finn to do some snooping and find out who lived in the apartment, and he ran into Walker in the hallway while he was there. Finn knows Walker's history, and knows what a completely sloppy drunk he is, so he let her hit on him long enough to get invited in for drinks, and then proceeded to pretend to drink with her, while she got trashed and ran her big mouth."
"Well thank God for Finn."
"Seriously! Walker ran her mouth like a leaky faucet. She told Finn absolutely everything, without him even having to ask."
"Sounds like a real winner."
"Like you wouldn't believe."
"So what happened today?" Rory asked.
"So today, I'm at the baby shower, and one of the security guys comes up to me and says that there is an issue with a guest at the door. So I get to the door, and Walker is standing there, waiting, because Honor and I removed her from the guest list last night. As soon as she saw me, she basically started throwing herself at me, telling me how good I look, and that we should get together soon, and catch up."
"Well you do look good, but gross." Rory commented.
"Exactly! I told her that I'm married, and that it's not happening. So then your Mom walks out the door to ask for my keys, to get something out of my car, and immediately Walker assumes that we're married."
"That's great! That's really funny!" Luke chuckled.
"I think it freaked Lorelai out."
"Well yeah, you're only like 12 or 13 years younger than her, and you're married to her daughter. That would freak me out too."
"Good point. It was pretty amusing for a few seconds. So then I tell the psycho that I'm not interested, and I politely tell her that she needs to leave. She freaks out and starts demanding answers. I didn't want to get into it at the country club of course, but she insisted, so I took her to the side of the parking lot, away from all the people and cars, and I briefly explained why she couldn't be there. So of course nothing I said was good enough, and she kept insisting that she was Honor's 'best friend', and at one point she tried to tell me that she's practically 'family', which immediately made me want to vomit."
"Yikes!"
"I would have laughed, then puked on her shoes." Rory commented.
"Trust me, I wanted to. I was trying really hard to be polite. So of course Walker was angry, and I got it in my head to ask her about whether or not she is receiving a paycheck from my Dad."
"What did she say?"
"She refused to confirm or deny it, but it sounds to me like she does. So of course I went on to tell her that if she's receiving a check, that makes her a prostitute."
"You told her that?!" Rory gasped.
"She had to have just LOVED that one." Luke chuckled.
"For real! She was furious! I explained it all to her, and how how we didn't want any of this to get out. I told her that my Dad's sex life is none of my business, and that I want absolutely nothing to do with it. I strongly suggested to Walker that she keep her big mouth closed, and that she quietly pack her things, and move out of the apartment. I told her that if she chose not to, that we could have have her charged with prostitution, which would in turn incriminate my Dad, which would then reflect really badly on the company, which would then harm my wife who is the CEO. And I warned her that if she has the nerve to do anything to upset my wife, I will be forced to retaliate."
"I can't even blame you there."
"So then what happened?" Rory asked.
"She told me that I'm fucked up, and that she hates me."
"And then?"
"She left. I had Collin on the phone the entire time. I had called him as soon as security found me, and told him that Walker was there. I put him on speaker phone, and hand my phone in my hand the entire time."
"So what did Collin have to say about all of it?" Luke asked.
"Collin is amused and disgusted, just like the rest of us. I told him that I felt repulsed and sick, and agreed, and offered to come over with food, and drink with me. I told him that everyone is already here, and I'd rather not add to the chaos. We mentioned maybe going down to the office tomorrow, and pulling the payroll records. Collin is calling Doyle to see if he can get remote access to their computer system today, and he said that he'll let me know what he finds out."
"Well it sounds like you guys have quite the little problem to deal with." Luke told them.
"You've got that right."
"So what do you think we should do?" Rory asked.
"I wouldn't even know where to begin with that one."
"No kidding!" Logan agreed.
"That's a whole storm of nightmare style drama."
"Which is exactly why I came home. I just couldn't deal with any more people. I didn't want to be at the party anyway, and after dealing with Walker, I just had to get out of there."
"I can't even blame you."
"I went back inside to say goodbye to my sister, and of course I ran right into my mother. Oh crap! Your Mom put a tray of food for you, in the car, and I forgot to bring it inside."
"I'll go grab it." Luke told them, setting his beer down on the counter in front of Logan and Rory.
"Thanks Luke." Logan told him, pulling the car keys out of his pocket, and handing them to his father in-law.
"So no wonder you're glad that I'm 'not related to you'." Rory chuckled as Luke left the kitchen to go grab her food from Logan's car.
"Dealing with Walker was more than enough for me. My mother was the absolute last person that I wanted to see. She was sure to tell me how excited she is to come over after the party."
"I'm not really looking forward to that either."
"She asked how you are doing."
"She asked about me?"
"She asked if you are doing alright."
"Oh."
"I told her that you are doing very well. Which you are, right? You're doing ok?"
"Logan . . ."
"Rory . . . Look, I know that I'm not exactly the most subtle or insightful husband. We have a lot going on, a brand new baby, and family all over the place. I'm sorry that I haven't been checking in with you like I should be. But I'm trying, Ace. How are you doing? Are you feeling ok?"
"Yeah, I'm doing alright."
"Really? Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm alright. It's a lot having people all over the place. I keep telling myself that it's just temporary, and that we'll get our nice quiet house back. And I know that we definitely need the help because we've never had a new baby before. I've never even babysat. It's just a lot."
"It's ok to want to run away. Having a new baby is hard. It's a learning curve, and there is a lot of anxiety and emotions involved. It's perfectly ok to feel like your life is spiraling completely out of control. You don't have to be ok."
"I know. But I'm alright right now."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm positive."
"You'll tell me if that changes, right?"
"Logan . . ."
"Ace . . . I need to know if things start to change, ok? I'll kick everyone out of our house, if you want me to. I don't care what it takes, whatever it is, I'll do, alright?"
"I know you will."
"Because I love you, and I want you to be happy, alright?"
"I know you do. I love you too." Rory smiled, giving Logan a quick kiss. "Are you ok?"
"I am now that I'm home."
"You're missing Honor's party though."
"I don't even care. I talked to her, and she's completely ok with it. She said that when it's over, she'll come over here, and she'll bring cake."
"Hey, I like cake!"
"It looks delicious. Sookie said something about it being a giant 'mud pie' cake, made with chocolate fudge, pudding, and Oreo cookies. There are gummy worms sticking out of it, all over the place. It literally looks like a mountain of dirt with a teddy bear on top. Sookie even put bugs on it."
"No way!"
"It's pretty cool looking. I should have taken a picture for you."
"That's ok, I'm sure my Mom took several. I'm excited to see it. I'm sure it tastes delicious."
"I kind of feel like getting out of the house for a while. Do you want to go for a drive or something?"
"Logan, you've been drinking.
"I've had half a beer. This isn't nearly enough to even get tipsy. It would take at least another 3 bottles."
"We have a newborn baby. I thought you don't want anyone to know about her."
"Who is going to know that we've got a baby, if we're just driving around?"
"My sisters are upstairs putting her down to sleep."
"How soon do you think she'll wake up to eat again?"
"I have no idea. Maybe an hour or two?"
"So let's get out of here for a little while. Just you and me. We can go get smoothies or something."
"Logan . . ."
"Come on Ace. You just said that we've got an hour or so before Ayribella will need us again. So let's go. Just you and me. What do you say?"
"And who is going to watch the baby?"
"I'm sure that Lane, April and Luke would be more than happy to. Especially considering the circumstances."
"Considering what circumstances?" Luke asked, walking back into the kitchen, carrying the tray of food that Lorelai had put in Logan's car for Rory.
"Hey Luke, would you mind keeping an eye on Ayribella while Rory and I run out really quick? I just feel like going out for a drive for a little while." Logan asked.
"Yeah, sure. Are you ok to drive though, you've been drinking."
"I've only drank half of this bottle. It would take me at least 3 bottles to even get tipsy. I'm more than fine. I promise. I wouldn't even consider going out if I had drank any more."
"How about you let Rory drive, and you've got yourself a deal."
"Done!" Logan agreed, taking one more sip of beer, then pushing the bottle away.
"Will you call me if she wakes up?" Rory asked as Luke handed her Logan's keys.
"Ayribella will be just fine. She's in good hands." Luke assured her.
"Ok. We won't be too long. Maybe an hour, tops. Logan just wants to go drive for a little while."
"I can understand that, he's dealing with a lot."
"Thanks Dad. We really appreciate it."
"It's not a problem. You drive safe, alright? And you call me if you need anything."
"I will." Rory promised, getting up from the chair she had been sitting in, and taking the hand Logan held out for her, then following him out of the kitchen.
"Do you have shoes down here?" Logan asked.
"I believe I do. There should be some in the hall closet. Where are we going?"
"Out."
"Well I know that. But where?"
"I don't know. I just want to go drive. We can flip a coin to determine which way we turn at each corner or something. I just need to get out for a while."
"Well, it's the middle of the afternoon. We haven't checked my iron numbers today, we could go there."
"I don't have my access card on me."
"Mine is in my purse." Rory said as she opened the hallway closet and reached for her purse that sat on a top shelf, then slipped her feet into her shoes."
"And your card has access to my office?"
"Um, hello, I own the place, remember? I can open whatever door I want to! In fact, why don't we go do some snooping in the payroll office while we're there."
"Mrs. Huntzberger, I like your style!"
"Grab me that huge sweatshirt."
"Why, it's warm outside?"
"Because we have to get out of the car, and I can put it on with my purse underneath, that way in case anyone is roaming the office, it looks like I'm still pregnant."
"It's Saturday, no one is in the office. Or at least no one should be at this time, except maybe security."
"True. But you never know. Grab it just in case we end up needing it."
"Alright."
"And text Collin to let him know what's going on."
"Why, are you afraid that you are going to get caught or something?"
"No! Of course not! I have every right to go snooping through my office. But text Collin in case he's still working on getting remote access to the computers. We can give him remote access while we're there, if we need to."
"You're a genius, Ace!" Logan told her, pulling out his phone as he followed Rory to their garage.
"I'm driving your Porsche."
"Why?"
"Because I own you!"
"You're pretty hot when you're on a secret mission."
"Yeah, well, what can I say? Skanky tramps trying to entice my husband, make me angry."
"Oh really?"
"I might feel the need to destroy someone right now."
"And the Emily in you comes out. I like it! You are really hot when you're mad."
"Get in the car, Logan. I have information to find." Rory said as they walked into the garage and she unlocked the car. "And text either Luke for me, and have him bring the girls and baby down to the office after Ayribella wakes up. This could take a while."
"You have no idea how hot you are right now."
"Shut it, Huntzberger. I'm on a mission!"
