Olivia normally wouldn't leave work this early but today was an exception. Usually she would dawdle in his office doing paperwork , but as soon as five o clock rolled around today, Olivia was out of her office on a gust of wind. Fin and Sonny watched her go, and exchanged a glance, their mouths turning up at the corners, begging to smile.
Olivia had rushed off to make herself look remotely human for her 'not date'. Today had been a rather good day for her. She was in a good mood and she hoped after tonight, she could have some fun for the first time in ages.
She opened her bag and delved into the pocket for her phone. Her mouth broke into a wide grin when she saw she had a text message from Peter.
HEY. JUST CHECKING WE'RE STILL ON FOR TONIGHT, AND THAT YOUR FRIENDS AREN'T BEING INFANTILE ANYMORE. Xx
HELLO. OF COURSE WE ARE STILL ON FOR TONIGHT. JUST NEED TO MAKE MYSELF LOOK HUMAN AGAIN. Xx
NONSENSE. I'M SURE YOU LOOK JUST FINE AS YOU ARE. Xx
I'LL WILL SEE YOU SOON OKAY? Xx
OKAY. SEE YOU IN A BIT THEN? Xx
NOT IF I SEE YOU FIRST. Xx
BENSON!! Xx
Sonny and Fin pushed the door open to see Olivia leaning against the counter with a huge grin on her face.
'You look like the cat that's got the cream. What's got you so happy?' Fin snatched her phone out of her hands before she could react.
'Fin!!'
'My my Olivia, you have it bad for him don't you!!'
'I don't have it bad for anyone'
'These text messages beg to differ Olivia. And look at that soppy grin on your face. You like him, a lot'
'I hardly know him Fin!'
'Tonight is the perfect opportunity to rectify that, now get going! Go and make yourself look pretty for your date'
'It's not a date!'
'Whatever you say!'
Peter and Olivia had met at the church as planned and headed down the main road to a quiet pub that Peter knew well. He had been here before and thought it was the ideal place.
'Go and grab a table, I'll get our drinks. What would you like?'
'I can get our drinks Olivia'
'This is my treat remember? By way of saying thanks for yesterday. No arguments okay'
'Okay' Peter raised his hands in mock surrender, departing to get a table before throwing over his shoulder that he would have whatever Olivia was having.
Five minutes later, Olivia joined Peter at the table he'd found in the corner with a bottle and two glasses perched on a tray. Sitting down next to Peter, she poured them each a glass and handed one to Peter. Their hands met over the cool metal of the glass and Olivia felt herself shiver, which didn't go unnoticed by Peter. Shaking her head slightly, she took a sip of her wine and then smiled.
'Red Wine! My favourite!'
'Mine too! I have no friends who enjoy the pleasure of it. They are all more beers and shots kind of people'
'But not you?'
'I never go out enough to experience the pleasure".
'What do you do if you don't mind me asking?'
'I'm a police officer'
'Do you work for a special unit or something like that?'
'I work for Special Victims Unit that deals with abuse, rape and missing children things like that What about you?'
'I'm an attorney and I have only been in New York for a year'
'You're kidding me?'
'That's brilliant so not all attorneys are scum well at least Jack McCoy is not and our former ADA's Rafael Barba and Casey Novak aren't either".
'So it would seem.'
As Olivia took a sip of her wine, Peter sat staring at her for a moment, drinking in how striking Olivia was. A smile began to stretch across his face, but he quickly regained his composure and directed the conversation over to what Olivia enjoyed most on her free time.
This was going to be a rather interesting evening.
