Last time, Lori's family started searching for clues to why she flunked, and as it turns out, Moniqua had something to do with it. However, just when the Louds were able to find evidence, it is then destroyed by Moniqua. So it looks things might not be looking good for the Louds...or are they?
As usual, I would like to thank DukeyDukeyDoo and Mike The Red Engine for helping me proofread this chapter.
Chapter 32: The Last Stretch Part 3
Five minutes later...
[The teen Loud girls sat in Principal Rivers' office with Castleton and his officers while the cameraman filmed the whole thing. The only ones who were still absent were Leni, Lincoln and Ronnie Anne, but the girls decided not to say where their older sister was until later. Castleton had already called Principal Rivers a few minutes ago. Moniqua watched over the girls with a smirk on her face. Castleton chewed on a piece of peppermint gum as he watched over the Loud sisters, who were still unsure of what might happen to them.]
Luan: "What's Principal Rivers going to do to us?"
Luna: "I don't know, but whatever it is, it probably ain't gonna be good."
Lynn: "I'm sorry, guys. I screwed up real bad."
Luan: "It's not your fault, Lynn. I should've had a better grip on that rope."
Lynn: "Well...considering how loud that door was, it probably wouldn't have mattered."
Luna: "I just hope that Linc and Ronnie made it out okay."
[At that moment, Principal Rivers and her assistant, Oliver had walked into the office in their nightwear. They weren't all too happy to be woken up at this time of night, but were also quite surprised as to why the police were here.]
Rivers: "What is the meaning of this?"
Castleton: "Ah, Principal Rivers. You're here. Have a seat."
[Rivers sat at her desk while Oliver stood beside her.]
Castleton: "It seems that a few of your students have been caught breaking into the school."
[Principal Rivers and Oliver looked over at the Loud sisters.]
Luna: "Look, Principal Rivers, before you say anything else, let us make one thing clear."
Moniqua: "Principal Rivers, these four are responsible for breaking and entering into school premises during closing hours AND tried to steal information from the school files! They don't deserve to speak!"
Lynn: "Zip it, four eyes! We were only trying to help out our sister!"
Moniqua: "How dare you?! You are out of line here, Loud! Combined with your thievery, that kind of abrasive attitude is grounds for expulsion!"
[Moniqua looked at Castleton and his subordinates while pointing at the Loud sisters.]
Moniqua: "Arrest them all at once!"
[Feeling the pressure, Rivers looked at Moniqua, then at the Loud sisters, then at Moniqua again.]
River: "I think she has a point right there."
Oliver: "Now, hold on a minute, Moniqua! We want to hear their side of the story first."
[Oliver then looked over at his superior.]
Oliver: "Don't we, Rivers?"
Rivers: "Well, I... Of course."
[Rivers then turned to look at Castleton.]
Rivers: "Sergeant?"
[Castleton simply nodded at the principal.]
Castleton: "Very well. We will allow the Loud sisters to state their case."
Moniqua: "But-but-but-"
Oliver: "Sit! Please, Moniqua."
[Moniqua pouted and sat back down with her arms folded.]
Rivers: "Go right ahead, girls."
Luna: "We've been doing some digging earlier, and we think that Moniqua forged Lori's test so that she'd fail."
Luan: "I even caught a glimpse of Moniqua bribing Joey a couple of days ago."
Lynn: "And we had proof of her scheme until SHE destroyed it!"
[Lynn pointed her finger at Moniqua, who looked appalled.]
Moniqua: "That's absurd! There is no way that I would bribe my own classmates!"
Luan: "That's what you think! I was at the mall and got a confession out of Joey about his involvement in this! Haven't you ever heard the expression 'the truth will set you free'?!"
Moniqua: "Like I even have one! You're all making a big mistake accusing a hall monitor without any proof."
Lynn: "You mean that proof that you deliberately destroyed just to cover your tracks?!"
[Principal Rivers looked left and right, trying to decide who to side with.]
Rivers: "Alright, girls! Enough! Look, I'm sorry, but we have to take Moniqua's word for it."
Oliver: "Principal Rivers has a point for once. Without evidence to back up your claims, we don't have much of a choice. Plus, your breaking and entering into school property and stealing info is grounds for suspension. Or as Moniqua described it...expulsion."
Luna: "You dudes aren't seriously buying this bull! Are you?!"
Luan: "Yeah! That girl is nothing but a total HACK!"
[Luan laughed while her sisters and Moniqua groaned.]
Luan: "Get it? But seriously, we're telling the truth here!"
Castleton: "I'm sorry, kids. I'd like to help you, but it seems that Moniqua's got the high ground on this one."
Rivers: "And I'm afraid that I will have to inform your parents of this matter."
[With that, Moniqua shot a proud look at the Loud teens, who shared looks of defeat, anger and dejection. Principal Rivers then picked up the phone and dialed a number before putting the phone to her ear. It was pretty clear to the Loud sisters that Principal Rivers was calling their parents and they have no idea what kind of punishment they'll be getting.]
[Just then, there was metallic pounding coming from the secret door. Principal Rivers put the phone down and activated the bookcase. She then walked over to the door and typed in the password. The door opened and to everyone's surprise, Mr. Dupree walked in, followed by Leni.]
Mr. Dupree: "I'm sorry, Principal Rivers. Am I interrupting anything?"
Luan: "Mr. Dupree?"
[Mr. Dupree then noticed Castleton and gave him a deadpanned look.]
Mr. Dupree: "Hello, Sergeant Castleton..."
Castleton: "Dupree..."
[Lang looked quizzically at Castleton.]
Lang: "You know this man, sarge?"
[Castleton put his hands in his pockets as he looked down.]
Castleton: "He's...my father-in-law."
[The Loud sisters looked at each other, not knowing what to say about this revelation.]
Luna: "Woah, dude. Didn't see that comin'."
Rivers: "Excuse me, everyone. I hate to interrupt, but what were you doing in the school files room, Mr. Dupree?"
Mr. Dupree: "Oh, of course."
[Mr. Dupree cleared his throat before speaking.]
Mr. Dupree: "Principal Rivers, if I may, I would like to say a few things about this whole affair."
[Rivers looked at Oliver, who nodded in agreement.]
Rivers: "Of course."
[Mr. Dupree paced around the room as he began to speak.]
Mr. Dupree: "I overheard you talking to the police about the Louds and their...situation. And while I do think these girls may be guilty of breaking and entering, the thing is... Moniqua Palmer isn't exactly the school savior she thinks she is."
Castleton: "What are you talking about?"
Mr. Dupree: "I'm saying that these girls were right to call out Moniqua like they did...and for good reason. You see, Joey came to my house earlier, and he told me that he gave Moniqua access to the school's computer files, allowing her to screw around with them as she pleased. I was hiding in the shadows when I heard the entire conversation take place."
[Moniqua quickly hopped to her feet and pointed at the history teacher.]
Moniqua: "Oh! Isn't that just like you, Mr. Dupree! Always looking for someone to blame but yourself! I mean, with this guy sneaking around the school, he could've been in on this whole conspiracy! It makes us wonder why no one in this school likes you! Fire this guy, Principal Rivers! He's old news!"
Mr. Dupree: "SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN!"
[Moniqua went as silent as a mouse and quickly sat back down. Mr. Dupree then took a deep breath and spoke calmly. It was amazing how this man hasn't had a heart attack yet.]
Mr. Dupree: "But don't take my word for it, Principal Rivers. For I have something to show you all. Something that I guarantee will crack this case wide open."
[Mr. Dupree then reached into his shirt and pulled out an old audio cassette recorder before pressing the play button. The recorder played what Moniqua had said when she was confronted by Lynn, Luan, and Leni.]
Moniqua: "You think that matters? I'll just tell them you tried to change the files just to cover your own asses. I mean, I framed your sister and I can do the same to all of you!"
[The Loud sisters didn't know what to say about this. Their history teacher actually catching the culprit on tape, was something really unexpected. But in any case, the Loud teens smirked at Moniqua as they seemed to retrieve the high ground from her. Rivers and Oliver looked at each other in surprise before turning their attention towards Moniqua, who nervously looked left to right and stood up.]
Moniqua: "Well, would you...look at the time! I think I-I-I...I'll...be going now."
Mr. Dupree: "Oh ho ho ho no, you don't, Palmer. We're not quite done yet... This next clip is REALLY juicy. I'm sure that Principal Rivers and Oliver would love it...right?"
[Mr. Dupree gave off a sly smirk as he pressed the fast word button before the tape skipped to another recording.]
Moniqua: "No one will ever know about this! Especially not that incompetent nutjob of a principal and that aide she has to rely on so much. Not like she'll listen to any of you, because I got those two idiots under my thumb! Now give me that damn drive OR ELSE!"
[Rivers, Oliver, Castleton, and his officers glared at Moniqua, who was now biting her lower lip and sweating like a pig in a slaughterhouse. Rivers was also going red in the face as Mr. Dupree kept replaying the part about her being incompetent as well as the part where she called her and Oliver idiots.]
Rivers: "Incompetent...nutjob?"
Moniqua: "Did I really say those things? What I meant was, uh...trustworthy and smart. Yeah! That's totally what I meant to say."
[Moniqua gave Rivers and Oliver a worried grin, but of course, no one was buying it one bit. As Oliver put his hands on his superior's shoulders to keep her calm, he spoke to Castleton.]
Oliver: "What do you think, Sergeant? Should we expel Moniqua?"
Castleton: "I'm afraid it goes deeper than that, Mr. Oliver. According to Michigan Law, this kind of offense is grounds for a $5,000 fine along with some serious jail time."
Lang: "Oh, absolutely."
Joseph: "Damn right."
[Oliver then looked over at Moniqua, who was now sweating even more. She now felt vulnerable with the principal and the police giving her looks of disgust. Lang stood up and walked beside Moniqua before putting his hand on her shoulder.]
Castleton: "Moniqua Palmer, you are under arrest for hacking into school property and falsifying information. You have the right to remain silent."
Oliver: "Would you care to say anything in defense?"
Moniqua: "Well, I... T-That is... In this matter, I...uh..."
Oliver: "Yes...?"
[She opened her mouth and inhaled to speak, but then the teen elbowed Lang in the stomach, quickly went right between Mr. Dupree's legs, and sprinted out of the room.]
Luna: "The cat's splittin' the scene, dudes! After her!"
Lynn: "GET BACK HERE!"
[Lynn got out of her seat and ran after Moniqua while her sisters followed suit.]
Castleton: "Joseph! Lang! Make sure she doesn't get away!"
[Without hesitation, the two officers joined in on the chase as the cameraman followed them.]
[The sisters chased after Moniqua through the school hallways until they went into the gym. Moniqua found herself cornered by the very girls she tried to pin the blame on.]
Lynn: "No one to help you out of this one, huh, bitch?!"
Luna: "Give it up, dudette! Your little facade is over!"
[Moniqua then picked up a dodge ball on the floor and aimed it at Lynn.]
Moniqua: "Kiss my motherfuckin' ass, Louds! I'm not going to jail!"
[Moniqua then threw the dodgeball at Lynn. However, Moniqua wasn't the best throw and Lynn managed to catch the ball.]
Lynn: "You really need more practice, you phony! I was dodgeball champion back in Middle School, and I still am today!"
Moniqua: "You can't hit me! My daddy is a police captain, and he'll lock you up for life!"
Lynn: "Yeah, yeah! Talk all you like! But you're not immune!"
[With that, Lynn threw the ball at Moniqua and she was sent flying towards the wall. Lynn then marched over to the dazed girl and put her foot on her chest. Lynn's sisters also joined in and surrounded the girl.]
Lynn: "Ha! I still got it."
Luna: "What do you have to say now, Moniqua?!"
[Moniqua stared at Lynn before coming up with another excuse.]
Moniqua: "It wasn't all my idea! Principal Rivers was behind it all!"
Lynn: "Oh, come on! I don't have time for this bull!"
Moniqua: "No really! She and Oliver have been using me to forge those test results! Honest! They really have no idea how to deal with the school's budget which is why I decided to help them!"
Lynn: "Wow! You are really pathetic! Like anyone would be stupid enough to believe that!"
"Clear the area, girls! Official police business!"
[Just then, Joseph and Lang showed up followed by the cameraman. The two officers brought Moniqua to her feet before Joseph forced the teen's hands behind her back and restrained them using zip ties. The girl struggled to break free from the two officers, but the zip ties were just too powerful.]
Moniqua: "This is police brutality! You got the wrong person here!"
"That kind of trick won't work on anybody, Palmer!"
[Lynn turned around and saw Mr. Dupree followed by Principal Rivers, Oliver, and Castleton. The principal was still seething with fury from that hurtful comment. Mr. Dupree then marched over to Moniqua.]
Mr. Dupree: "What is your problem? You were my prized pupil! I treated you like a daughter, I showed you how to be a perfect student, and this is how you repay me? By throwing me under the bus just to cover your own selfish, hypocritical ass?! I'll have you know that was in the CIA for twenty years, and I can tell when people are lying through their teeth! I've been reading your comments on social media, and they are nothing but lies! Toxic, egotistical, and self-centered lies!"
Oliver: "That's enough, Dupree! We'll take it from here."
[The principal stared at Moniqua with a look of hurt and anger.]
Rivers: "Moniqua Palmer, I have had it up to HERE with your behavior! You have clearly abused your power as hall monitor, committed computer fraud, and to top it all, you had the AUDACITY to insult me in front of my students and use me as a means for your own selfish reasons!"
Moniqua: "But I..."
Rivers: "What do you have to say for yourself, young lady?!"
[Moniqua went silent for a few moments but then she closed her eyes.]
Moniqua: "Fine... You all want the truth?! Fine! I did it! I hacked into that preggo's test results! I did it because she had no reason to graduate in her condition! All her friends and family look at her and support her unconditionally despite the fact that she has degraded herself big time! Plus, my best friend Whitney had to move to another school because of that slut's reckless act!"
[Everyone kept staring at Moniqua as she continued her rant.]
Moniqua: "And yeah! I got that idiot Joey in on the whole thing because he could NEVER get an A in history with Dupree in charge of that!"
[Moniqua pointed at Mr. Dupree, who simply looked away.]
Moniqua: "I've been keeping order in these school halls for months and I've been getting straight A's, but what do I have to show for it? NOTHING! All I've been getting for my work is backlash and unappreciation from the rest of the students. Plus, my father rarely has any time for me because of his work! Whitney is out of my life, and now it has been a living hell ever since! Fuck Lori Loud and that deadbeat boyfriend of hers! Fuck them both to hell and BACK!"
[Moniqua's voice echoed through the gym. The room was completely silent for about ten seconds, save for Moniqua breathing.]
[Finally, Principal Rivers spoke again with her hands on her hips.]
Rivers: "Moniqua... Your callous actions have caused a lot of problems in our school system and we simply cannot have any more because of it. I'm sorry, but you leave us no other choice!"
[Moniqua was now on the verge of tears.]
Moniqua: "Please...you can't..."
Rivers: "For the number of infractions you have caused upon this school, including hacking and falsifying information, you are hereby stripped of your position as hall monitor and expelled from Royal Woods High...FOREVER!"
[Oliver then whispered something into Rivers' ear. The principal nodded in agreement.]
Rivers: "And furthermore, as Sergeant Castleton mentioned, you owe $5,000 to society, and will be spending time in jail until further notice!"
[Moniqua gasped in horror before her face crumbled, for it was quite clear that she was at her wits end.]
Moniqua: "No... You can't do that..."
Rivers: "The law is the law, Moniqua. And from what we've learned, you've clearly broken it."
[Moniqua then dropped to her knees and began to sob as her head hung low.]
Moniqua: "Dad... I want my daddy!"
[Castleton put his hands on his hips as he looked down at the crying girl with a look of disappointment.]
Castleton: "I think your daddy will be awfully disappointed when he hears about what you did. Get her to the car, guys!"
[Moniqua kicked and screamed as Joseph and Lang dragged her out of the school, the cameraman filming them all the way. And as the former hall monitor was being taken to the car, she yelled out one last thing to the Loud sisters.]
Moniqua: "I HOPE YOU'RE ALL PROUD OF YOURSELVES! YOU, YOU TRAMP LOVERS! ORDER IN THIS SCHOOL IS GOING TO COME CRASHING DOWN, AND IT'LL BE ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT!"
[Oliver then put his hand on the principal's shoulder as she started to calm down.]
Rivers: "Did I go too far, Oliver?"
Oliver: "You did what you had to, Rivers. But at least we're free now."
[However, Castleton stayed behind and spoke to Rivers.]
Castleton: "Not quite... Principal Rivers? Mr. Oliver? I would like to speak to you both in your office. It's about your...business with Moniqua."
[The principal and her assistant looked at each other with shame before following the police sergeant to another room. They had no idea what was going to become of them because of the incident. Castleton took one more glance at Mr. Dupree before leading Rivers and Oliver out of the gym.]
Leni: "Wow... Poor Moniqua."
Luna: "Yeah... I really pity her."
Lynn: "Who cares about that loser? She's clearly been asking for it big time."
Luna: "Yeah, that's true. I mean, she did hack into the school's files and caused Lori to flunk. She deserves to be in the big house."
Luan: "Well, let's just hope that girl can hack it in the slammer!"
[Luan laughed while the other Loud siblings and Mr. Dupree groaned in response.]
Luan: "Get it?"
Mr. Dupree: "Yes...unfortunately."
[Mr. Dupree sighed while the Loud sisters looked at each other, not knowing what to say about their history teacher.]
Mr. Dupree: "Girls?"
Luna: "Yeah, Mr. Dupree?"
[Mr. Dupree then reached into his pocket and pulled out his cell phone.]
Mr. Dupree: "Do you know where your eldest sister lives? Lori?"
Leni: "Of course! She lives at Carlisle Park Apartments with her boyfriend, Bobby... Why?"
Mr. Dupree: "Good, because I'd like to have a word with her."
[Mr. Dupree dialed the number to the front desk. After a couple of beeps, someone answered.]
Mr. Dupree: "Yeah, hello? Is this the manager? I'm from the Royal Woods High School. You know of anybody named Lori Loud? Good...I'll be coming over there soon. I wish to talk to her about something very important. It concerns the results on her history test. Just let me do all the talking. Alright. Thank you."
[With that, Mr. Dupree hung up and put the phone back in his pocket.]
Mr. Dupree: "Well, there's no time to waste. I better get going."
[Mr. Dupree started to walk out of the gym.]
Luan: "What are you going to do?"
Mr. Dupree: "Something that I should've done long ago."
[With that, Mr. Dupree walked out of the room. The teen Louds looked at each other, confused. Lynn then whispered to Luan.]
Lynn: "Has Mr. Dupree gone senile all of a sudden?"
Luan: "Well, I guess you could say...that he's senile the error of his ways!"
[With that, Luan laughed again as her siblings groaned in response.]
Luan: "Get it?"
Meanwhile, at Hole in One-derland...
[Bobby and Lori were having the time of their lives playing mini golf. They had already played through five holes since coming here.]
[As they reached the windmill hole, Bobby got a sense of deja vu. This spot was the very same place where Bobby told Lori about his father, the place where they shared one night of passion, the place where their baby was made, and it was still hard to believe that they were almost there. How time flew so fast.]
[In any case, Lori shot the ball through the windmill and out the other end before it sank into the hole.]
Bobby: "Nice shot, babe!"
Lori: "Thanks! I'm glad there's still some things that I'm good at."
[A few minutes later, Bobby and Lori decided to take a break at the cemetery hole. The couple sat on one of the prop coffins.]
Bobby: "So... What do you think?"
Lori: "It was fun."
Bobby: "I'm glad you enjoyed it... Uh... Do you want to talk about...yesterday?"
Lori: "I guess so..."
[Lori looked at her boyfriend.]
Lori: "I'm sorry for how I reacted earlier. It's just... We were supposed to graduate together, but then I flunked... How could this happen? I've worked really hard to graduate, but then I blew it. It literally doesn't make sense."
Bobby: "Yeah... I can hardly believe it myself. This was a really huge deal for you...for both of us, in fact."
[Lori looked down at the ground as she spoke again.]
Lori: "I know... How could they do this?"
[Bobby held both of Lori's hands as he looked her right in the eyes.]
Bobby: "Babe...I need you to be strong for me. I'm just as upset about this as you are, but we can't let this come between us."
Lori: "But what about us? You were able to pass the test, and yet you could've lost that opportunity after standing up to Mr. Dupree like that."
Bobby: "Well, I wasn't gonna let him talk to you like that, even if he knows so much about history."
[Bobby then pulled his girlfriend in for a hug.]
Bobby: "It'll be okay, babe. We can still go to college eventually. I mean, it's not the end of the world...or ours."
[Lori closed her eyes and returned her boyfriend's embrace.]
Lori: "Thank you, Bobby...for everything. It was literally so sweet of you to take me back here."
[With that, Lori gave her boyfriend a quick kiss on his cheek, making the Latino's heart flutter.]
Bobby: "That's my girl."
[Just then, they were interrupted as Bobby's cell phone started ringing.]
Lori: "I think you better get that."
[Bobby nodded and looked at the caller ID on his phone. It was from Nate. He pressed the answer button and put the phone to his ear.]
Bobby: "Yeah, Nate?"
Nate: "Hey, Bobby... Listen, I'm sorry for calling this late, but do you think you and Lori can come back to the apartment? Somebody from Royal Woods High is here to see you."
Bobby: "Why? What's going on?"
Nate: "I think it's best not to tell you over the phone. He's waiting outside and really wants to see you guys in person."
[Bobby was confused by this, but decided not to tell Lori about it until they have arrived.]
Bobby: "Okay, we'll be there soon. Bye."
[As soon as he hung up, Bobby got to his feet and took Lori's hand.]
Bobby: "I think it's time for us to head back home."
Lori: "Already?"
Bobby: "Yeah, we shouldn't be out so late."
Lori: "Good point."
[Bobby and Lori then walked hand in hand back to their SUV.]
Later...
[Bobby and Lori had arrived back at the apartment complex. After parking Cathy, they got out and walked towards the apartment. When they approached their apartment, they were surprised to find Mr. Dupree leaning by their door.]
Lori: "Mr. Dupree?"
Bobby: "What are you doing here?"
Mr. Dupree: "Well, it's funny you should ask. I would have let you come to my house the next day, but I thought it best to pay you a visit instead."
Lori: "Okay... What's going on?"
Mr. Dupree: "Lori, do you and Bobby mind if I join you inside? There's some things we'd like to discuss regarding your, uh...ahem...test results."
[Bobby and Lori looked at one another. Then, using his key, Bobby unlocked the door to his apartment before he, Lori, and Dupree walked in. Bobby and Lori sat on the couch while Dupree sat on a chair facing them.]
Lori: "Okay... So...what is this about?"
Mr. Dupree: "Well, we had a...rather interesting night. Your sisters reported to me this afternoon and said that the test scores you got...they were false."
Bobby: "False?"
[Mr. Dupree nodded before he continued.]
Mr. Dupree: "Let's say there was an investigation and it turns out that one of the students snuck into the office and hacked into the school computers, adding false information to the tests before they got evaluated. Rivers and Oliver, on the other hand, pretty much allowed this to happen and are being questioned right now as we speak."
Lori: "You mean...?
Mr. Dupree: "That's right, Lori... Your test was sabotaged...and it was Moniqua who did it. You see, she made you believe that you had failed the final, and tricked me into giving you a bum grade. She fooled us both...and we just let it slip right under our noses."
[Lori's eyes widened before she started to seethe with fury.]
Lori: "That four-eyed bitch! I should've known!"
[Bobby held her shoulders to calm her down.]
Bobby: "So, you're saying that Moniqua was responsible for Lori failing the test?"
Mr. Dupree: "Exactly! Well, technically, Lori didn't fail. Based on what we've learned, Moniqua had planned this whole conspiracy right from the start before Lori's sisters caught onto it. From what I've seen and heard, they snuck into the school files room and found out exactly what Moniqua's plan was. They had the evidence needed to expose her, but Moniqua got the upper hand and destroyed what they had to prove her guilt. Luckily for them, I was there to back them up with my own little ounce of proof."
[With that, Mr. Dupree took out his recorder and played back all the recordings he had of Moniqua along with Lynn, Luan, and Leni. Bobby and Lori were horrified at what Moniqua said to the Loud sisters.]
Lori: "So that was literally her plan? Tricking me into thinking I've failed the final exam?"
Mr. Dupree: "That's pretty much the gist of it."
[Dupree then turned to look at Lori.]
Mr. Dupree: "But of course, your sisters were still guilty of breaking into the principal's office at night. That kind of offense usually means a few weeks of suspension, but after they told us their side of the story, we decided to give them one weekend of detention."
Bobby: "I'm glad you brought that up, because while I was walking around town earlier, Moniqua came to me."
Mr. Dupree: "Oh?"
Bobby: "Yeah. She told me she was going to help Lori graduate...if she gave my baby up for adoption."
Lori: "What?!"
[Bobby then took the papers out of his jacket and put them on the table. Lori was still in disbelief that this girl wanted her to sacrifice her baby for her career. Mr. Dupree took one of the papers and looked over it.]
Mr. Dupree: "Well...this is just..."
[Mr. Dupree sighed and rubbed his temple as he took a moment to process this.]
Mr. Dupree: "So, if I'm understanding this correctly: Right after she tricked Lori, Moniqua tried to bribe you into giving up your unborn child?"
[Bobby nodded in response.]
Lori: "Of all the literal NERVE!"
Bobby: "Don't worry, babe. I've turned down her offer. I wasn't gonna let her ruin our lives any further."
Lori: "That's good. I just hope she leaves us alone."
Mr. Dupree: "Somehow, I highly doubt that. But anyway, I looked at your real test results, and they're actually pretty good. A few misses here and there, but most of the answers were really accurate."
Lori: "Does this mean...?"
[Mr. Dupree gave Lori a small smile before he replied.]
Mr. Dupree: "That's right, Lori. You have passed the test. A+ approved. And as of right now, you have been reinstated for graduation."
Bobby: "Do you hear that, babe? You're back in!"
[Lori covered her mouth in awe as tears started forming in her eyes. Bobby simply pulled his girlfriend in for a hug. Mr. Dupree remained in his seat and stared at the couple for a few minutes until Lori was fresh out of tears.]
Mr. Dupree: "I do apologize for the misunderstanding. I hope you're not too angry with me."
[Lori wiped her eyes before looking at Mr. Dupree.]
Lori: "At you? I'm more angry at Moniqua if anything! I just can't believe she'd put me through this!"
Mr. Dupree: "Well, you won't have to worry about Moniqua anymore. The police handled her accordingly. She's been permanently expelled from the school premises for computer fraud. And because of the severity of the offense, it's likely that she'll be taken to a women's correctional facility for about two years with a $5,000 fine."
Bobby: "What about Rivers and Oliver?"
Mr. Dupree: "Rivers and Oliver are going to be under investigation by the school board. Of course it probably isn't looking too good for Rivers due to her pandering. Besides, Oliver seems like a better candidate for principal anyway."
Lori: "Thank you, Mr. Dupree."
Mr. Dupree: "Well, I don't really deserve all the credit. You can pretty much thank your sisters for that."
Lori: "We will."
Bobby: "You know, Mr. Dupree...? I'm honestly quite surprised. Gracias."
Mr. Dupree: "Don't mention it...again."
[Mr. Dupree cleared his throat.]
Mr. Dupree: "Do you mind if I tell you a little story? Just a little something to get off my chest."
Bobby: "Not at all."
Lori: "Okay... Why don't you lay down on the couch?"
[Mr. Dupree nodded before getting off the chair while Bobby and Lori stood up. Dupree then laid down on the couch while Lori took one of the chairs and set it right next to her history teacher before sitting down.]
Mr. Dupree: "Look...Lori... I'm sorry I put you through this. You see...this whole thing is a little more complicated than you think it is."
Lori: "What do you mean?"
Mr. Dupree: "You see...when I was a boy, my father was a pretty hard man. He taught me everything I needed to know about growing up tough and working hard in this cruel and unforgiving world. Well, after all my hard work and pushing through many obstacles, working for the government and such, I finally settled down and started a family. Eventually, I had gained a daughter named Carrie, but that experience came at a terrible price as my wife passed away after giving birth."
[Lori felt uneasy when she heard what the teacher just said as did Bobby, but the pregnant blonde managed to regain her bearings.]
Lori: "Go on?"
[Mr. Dupree then reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He then took a row of pictures out of the wallet showing Mr. Dupree with his daughter.]
Mr. Dupree: "I loved my daughter very much... She was the only person in my life who could keep my spirits up...even after she lost her mother. Whenever I felt down, my little girl would always brighten up my day with her warm smile."
[The first photo showed a young Mr. Dupree teaching his infant daughter how to walk. The second photo showed Mr. Dupree and a 5-year-old on their porch while the little girl held a drawing of two characters, one short and one tall. The third photo showed Mr. Dupree and a 13-year-old Carrie at the history museum. And finally, the fourth and last one showed Mr. Dupree at his daughter's high school graduation.]
Lori: "I see... But what does that have to do with me?"
Mr. Dupree: "She was a smart kid, too. I wanted my daughter to be the perfect child, so I home schooled her, and boy did all that work pay off. She went to business school and excelled to the top of her class. I was extremely proud of her for that."
Lori: "What happened next?"
[Mr. Dupree sighed.]
Mr. Dupree: "You see...when she got older, she met this man, got married and eventually, they had two children of their own. It was pretty sad for me, but...I had to let her go. I felt that she no longer needed to rely on me at that point in time. I was the only one left in my home after that...but my daughter still gave me a call every once in a while to check up on me. She even let me say hi to her kids, even though I've never seen them in person."
[Bobby thought of something as he heard those words.]
Mr. Dupree: "I thought I could get used to this new normal, but then...tragedy struck again."
[Bobby and Lori looked at each other, and then back at their history teacher, who was on the verge of trembling.]
Lori: "I think we're getting somewhere. Keep going."
Mr. Dupree: "I was just relaxing in my home, all alone, then this police officer came to my door and I invited him in. After we both shared lunch together, the officer told me that..."
[Mr. Dupree's face crumbled, trying his best to hold back the tears.]
Bobby: "Told you what?"
Mr. Dupree: "...there was a terrible accident...and Carrie...didn't make it."
[Bobby's face fell. He and Lori had no idea what the old man had gone through.]
Bobby: "Dios mio..."
Lori: "What happened to her?"
Mr. Dupree: "Well, I don't know the full details...but, Carrie's husband was on tour from Iraq and decided to take his family for a drive... When they stopped to pick up gas...there was an explosion... The gas pumps were destroyed...and it took Carrie...and the kids...along with it."
[Lori covered her mouth in shock while Bobby held her hand.]
Lori: "Oh my God... I'm so sorry..."
Bobby: "So, let me get this straight... Your son-in-law is...Detective Castleton?"
Mr. Dupree: "Former son-in-law, Santiago. After that whole incident, I decided to break all ties with Castleton. I blamed him everyday since that experience, and everytime I saw him, it always reminded me of that tragedy. I haven't seen him for years...until now."
[Mr. Dupree was now on the verge of crying as he continued.]
Mr. Dupree: "When you brought up the subject of family, I just lost all control. I couldn't handle my emotions...all the pain I've been going through since that fateful day. I just wasn't there to protect Carrie. The little girl that I've raised to succeed...taken away from me by God. I felt like...I could never be happy again."
[Lori was now crying after listening to her history teacher's story, though it could be partially due to her hormones. Bobby stood by her side and held her shoulders for comfort.]
Bobby: "Is that why you wanted your students to get perfect grades?"
Mr. Dupree: "That's exactly right, kid. Listen, I'm not really a bad guy here. All I wanted was for my students to be perfect like my daughter...but I see now that it doesn't work that way. I just let my pain and my emotions get the better of me for years, and it's robbed some kids of their chances of graduating...just like you, Lori."
[Just then, Lori was fresh out of tears. She wiped her eyes and spoke to Mr. Dupree again.]
Lori: "I...I didn't even realize..."
Mr. Dupree: "It's quite alright. I don't expect any of you to understand...nor would I expect you to forgive me. Hell, I probably wouldn't forgive me either. There was clearly something wrong with my way of teaching, and it's plagued my class for nearly a decade. I just wish I could go back in time and prevent all this from happening."
[Lori and Bobby looked at each other, unsure of what to think of Mr. Dupree and his perspective.]
Lori: "Look... What happened to your daughter was literally nobody's fault. It was a very unfortunate circumstance and it couldn't be helped. Before I became pregnant...I was kind of rough on my siblings...especially my brother, Lincoln. But I only acted that way to prevent my family from going under. But thanks to Bobby, I've been becoming a better person than I was back then. I know the world can be a dark and cruel place...but sometimes...it's better to just let go of the past...and look forward to the future."
Bobby: "Lori's right. My mother was murdered by my father back in July. I know that feeling all too well. But thanks to Lori here, I can finally let my mind go of my father and focus on my life right here."
[Bobby smiled and held Lori's hand as he said these last words. Lori sighed dreamily in response. Mr. Dupree stared at the scene before him, a tear running down his cheek as it reminded him of himself and his wife. Dupree then wiped away the tear and began to think.]
Mr. Dupree: "Maybe...you're right... After all that's happened this past week, I guess it's time for me to turn over a new leaf."
[Mr. Dupree sat back up and looked at his students.]
Mr. Dupree: "Thank you, Lori. I think you'll do really well in the therapy department."
Lori: "It was literally nothing, Mr. Dupree."
Mr. Dupree: "Don't be so modest. We've all made mistakes in our lives. Well...I guess I better head back home. We have a big day on Monday."
[Mr. Dupree got up and headed for the door, but turned around to look at Lori and Bobby.]
Mr. Dupree: "Oh, and Lori?"
[Lori and Bobby looked over at Mr. Dupree.]
Mr. Dupree: "I'll see you on the final exam. You're a smart girl. All you have to do is...be the best that you can be."
[With that, Dupree left the apartment and closed the door, leaving only Bobby and a very ecstatic Lori. The pregnant blonde wrapped her arms around Bobby's neck and hugged him.]
Lori: "I can't literally believe I'm back in!"
Bobby: "I know! That was a really rough experience."
[Bobby then leaned forward and gave his girlfriend a smooch on her forehead.]
Bobby: "So tell me. What was your response going to be if I showed you those papers a little earlier?"
[Lori gave her boyfriend a light punch in his arm.]
Lori: "Bobby! You know how I'd feel! Don't you remember when you and Ronnie Anne left to help Lincoln?"
Bobby: "Right. Right. How can I forget? Though I'd rather forget what happened after that."
[Lori then put her hands on Bobby's cheeks and looked into his eyes.]
Lori: "Bobby... I would never sacrifice our little bumblebee even if it meant getting a career...especially not from someone like Moniqua."
Bobby: "I know... I was just really scared."
[Lori then put her hand on Bobby's cheek and the two lovers looked into each other's eyes.]
Lori: "You have no need to be, now...and neither do I."
[With that, Bobby leaned forward and kissed his girlfriend on the lips and they started making out, tongues battling one another before they sat down on the couch. Lori was on her back while Bobby was on top. After about two minutes, Lori felt a kick in her stomach, making her and Bobby stop their moment.]
Bobby: "What is it, Babe?"
[Lori took her boyfriend's hand and guided it to her stomach. Bobby felt the kick coming from Lori's stomach and smiled warmly.]
Bobby: "Well, we better get some sleep. We have a lot of studying to do before Monday."
[Lori nodded before she and Bobby went to sleep on the couch. Bobby used his girlfriend's baby bump as a pillow for his head while Lori rubbed her fingers on her Boo-Boo Bear's hair. All they had now was Monday's BAT exam and then it would all be clear skies for the expecting parents.]
Meanwhile, at the Loud House...
[Lynn Sr. had just finished making dinner for his family when he heard a knock at the front door.]
Lynn Sr.: "Must be the kids."
[Lynn Sr. walked to the door and opened it to find Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lincoln, Lisa, and Ronnie Anne along with Castleton. Lynn Sr. looked at the police sergeant, worried of what it might be.]
Lynn Sr.: "Is there a problem, Sarge?"
Castleton: "Your children were out past curfew and were loitering around the high school."
Lynn Sr.: "I see... You're not going to press charges, are you?"
Castleton: "No, Mr. Loud. Nothing too serious. I'm having them placed under house arrest for this weekend...and you're in charge of that."
[Lynn Sr. heaved a sigh of relief while the kids walked into the house.]
Lynn Sr.: "Don't worry, Castleton. We'll make sure they won't be any more trouble tonight."
Castleton: "Alright. You have a good night, sir."
[Castleton turned around and started walking back to his police cruiser. As he was half-way down the sidewalk, he looked at the Loud kids and winked at them. Lynn Sr. looked at his kids with disappointment.]
Lynn: "Look, dad... We-"
Lynn Sr.: "Up-up-up! Don't say anything! You are all confined to your rooms without dinner."
[Lynn Sr. pointed to the stairs as the kids groaned in response.]
Luna: "Bummer, daddy-o."
Luan: "Don't drag Lincoln and Ronnie Anne into this. We practically dragged them along."
Leni: "Please, Daddy! They haven't done, like, anything wrong!"
Lynn: "Yeah! Go easy on them, will ya?"
[Lynn Sr. thought for a moment before looking at Lincoln.]
Lynn Sr.: "Is this true, son?"
[Lincoln and Ronnie Anne looked at each other before nodding at Lynn Sr.. The patriarch of the Louds simply looked away and sighed.]
Lynn Sr.: "Very well then. Lincoln and Ronnie Anne won't be punished, but I'm letting them off with a warning."
Lincoln: "Thanks, dad."
Ronnie Anne: "Yeah...thanks."
[With that, the two twelve-year-olds went upstairs. However, instead of heading to her and Leni's room, Ronnie Anne followed Lincoln to his room.]
Lynn Sr.: "And as for the rest of you, you're still grounded until Monday. Now up to your rooms."
[The teen girls then started lumbering up the stairs and to their rooms.]
[Shortly after dinner, Lincoln was laying on his bed reading a manga while Ronnie Anne sat on the edge of the bed with her sweater off.]
Ronnie Anne: "So... I guess we're pretty much the only ones not grounded for the whole weekend?"
Lincoln: "Yeah, but were at least able to save Lori's chances at graduation, right?"
[Ronnie Anne looked at the white-haired boy and smiled.]
Ronnie Anne: "It looks that way...thanks to your sisters."
Lincoln: "Yeah, I'm glad that Lori's back in. I can't believe my sisters would risk their whole weekend just to bail us out."
Ronnie Anne: "I know! It's not every day that something like this happens."
Lincoln: "Well, what can I say? My sisters always have my back...mostly."
Ronnie Anne: "What do you mean mostly?"
[Lincoln then sighed and closed his comic before setting it on the end table. He then turned on his side and looked up at the ceiling. Ronnie Anne noticed this and spoke to her friend.]
Ronnie Anne: "What's going on, Lame-O?"
Lincoln: "It's nothing, Ronnie Anne."
Ronnie Anne: "Lincoln..."
[Ronnie Anne patted her hand on the bed, motioning for Lincoln beside her, which he did.]
Lincoln: "Okay... We didn't really do much to help during the operation. All we did was stand outside and keep watch...before Sergeant Castleton and his crew showed up."
Ronnie Anne: "So?"
Lincoln: "Well, it's just... Remember when your dad and his biker girlfriends took me hostage?"
[Ronnie Anne stared at the ceiling thinking about that moment at the Fernville warehouse. The moment where she took a bullet for Lincoln. She then shook that horrible thought out of her head and stared at Lincoln.]
Ronnie Anne: "I'd rather not, Lincoln. Now, what are you getting at?"
Lincoln: "Sorry...it's just that... I remember Alex telling me something while I was being tortured."
Ronnie Anne: "What's that?"
Lincoln: "He told me...that my sisters might not have any more use for me in the future."
[Ronnie Anne gave Lincoln a punch in his shoulder.]
Ronnie Anne: "And you listened to him?! Lame-O, he's nothing but a total psycho! Not to mention that he tried to KILL you!"
Lincoln: "I know, but...what if he's right? What if they eventually forget about me?"
[Ronnie Anne groaned.]
Ronnie Anne: "Forget about him, Lincoln! I don't care what he says! And you shouldn't either! All he does is get under everyone's skin. Now, your sisters, they were trying to formulate a plan to rescue you...even though they concluded that it would be suicide."
Lincoln: "You're right... I guess I was feeling a little left out."
Ronnie Anne: "Yeah... Well, your sisters are never going to forget about you."
[Ronnie Anne held Lincoln's hand and looked him in the eyes.]
Ronnie Anne: "And even if that happens, which it won't, you still got me by your side."
[Lincoln smiled at Ronnie Anne before laying his head on her lap. Ronnie Anne blushed and put her hand on the white-haired boy's forehead.]
The next day, in Leni and Ronnie Anne's room...
[Leni was laying on her bed staring up at the ceiling. Ronnie Anne wasn't with her as she was downstairs playing the Hero's Quest game with Lincoln. Just then, Leni got a text on her cell phone. She picked it off her end table and looked at the text to see that it was from Lori.]
literally_lori: Hello Leni.
[Leni then sent a text back.]
lenista00: Hi Lori. How r u?
literally_lori: I'm fine. Is it okay if I spend the night with u guys?
lenista00: Can't. We're grounded till Monday.
literally_lori: Don't worry. I'll call Dad and see what can be done.
lenista00: Okay.
literally_lori: I'll see you later. Maybe tomorrow night if possible.
[With that, Leni put her phone back on the end table before laying back down.]
The next night...
[Lori had talked to her parents about what actually happened on Friday night. Realizing that their children were only doing what was best for their eldest sister, Rita and Lynn Sr. decided to fix their punishment a little: The teen Loud girls were allowed to have Lori come over for one night so that they could talk to her. Rita and Lynn Sr. had also watched the latest episode of The Castleton Files before Lori called. Of course, Lisa was still banned from doing experiments for the rest of the weekend. The parents also had the idea of inviting Mr. Dupree over for dinner.]
[Lynn Sr., Rita, and Mr. Dupree sat in the dining room eating lasagna.]
Lynn Sr.: "So, what do you think of my famous Lynnsagna, Mr. Dupree?"
Mr. Dupree: "I think it's outstanding, Mr. Loud."
Lynn Sr.: "I'm glad you think so, Sir. I also happen to own a restaurant in town."
Mr. Dupree: "Interesting... I'd like to come by sometime. By the way, just call me Lester...please."
Rita: "So, Lori tells us that you gave her that A on her history test?"
Mr. Dupree: "Well...there were a few complications at first, but aside from that, I say your daughter is well on her way to making it to college."
[Lynn Sr. began to tear up before he squeaked his next words.]
Lynn Sr.: "I know..."
[Lynn Sr. rested his head on the table as he cried, much to Mr. Dupree's disdain.]
Rita: "Don't mind him, Lester. He's just really proud of our Lori."
Mr. Dupree: "It's quite alright, Mrs. Loud. I know that feeling all too well."
Rita: "Yeah..."
Mr. Dupree: "But anyway... Tomorrow, there's going to be some reorganizing at the high school following last night's incident. I'm going to be taking charge of the final BAT exam."
Lynn Sr.: "Well, I do hope that Lori passes."
Mr. Dupree: "Come on, Mr. Loud. With the amount of smarts that your daughter has, I'm sure she's gonna make it."
[Just then, the doorbell rang. Mrs. Loud got out of her seat and walked to the front door. She answered it and found Bobby on the porch in his pizza delivery outfit with two pizza boxes.]
Bobby: "Pizza for the Louds."
Rita: "Thank you, Bobby."
[Bobby handed his honorary mother the pizzas and the woman gladly accepted them. Rita then gave Bobby his pay before the Latino went back to his night shift. Rita then brought the pizzas up the stairs and towards Leni and Ronnie Anne''s room before knocking on the door. Lori answered and took the pizzas from her mother before shutting the door. The matriarch went back down the stairs to rejoin her husband and their guest.]
Later, in Leni and Ronnie Anne's room...
[Lori, Lincoln, their sisters, and Ronnie Anne were enjoying their sleepover. The girls gossiped all night about Friday's event and the aftermath while eating their pizza.]
Leni: "So, how are you and Bobby doing?"
Lori: "We're doing great, now that you mention it. Bobby and I have the BAT test on Monday before we can finally graduate. I almost got disqualified, but thanks to you, they discovered that my test was hacked...because of a certain whistleblower."
Lynn: "Uh, Duh? We were there?"
Lola: "Well, not to brag, but I think I might've had something to do with old man Dupree's change of heart."
Lisa: "I'm not sure if that's the case, though it might've been a contributing factor. But it was also a risky move, since it could've also had dire consequences for our family."
Lola: "Well, there weren't any... Were there?"
Leni: "Listen...I'm sorry I missed out on your girl's day out last Friday, but-"
[Lori raised her hand before Leni could continue.]
Lori: "I know why you did...and I really appreciate it very much. I just couldn't believe you'd put yourselves at risk for me."
Lynn: "Are you kiddin' sis? We weren't gonna let some whiny little hypocrite keep you from making the big leagues, were we?"
Lori: "Anyway, from what I've heard, Principal Rivers got fired for her involvement in the whole incident following an investigation."
Luna: "Well, it's about time they finally gave her the axe. She wasn't really the best choice to begin with."
Luan: "So who's gonna be the new principal?"
Lori: "They say they're still working on that, but they're letting Oliver take Rivers' place for the time being."
Leni: "What about Moniqua's old job?"
Lori: "I'm sure they'll handle that as well."
Luan: "We're sorry we weren't much help in clearing your name."
Lori: "That doesn't matter. I'm literally glad that you're all looking out for me."
[With that, the teen Loud sisters crawled over to their older sister and she gave them a group hug. Lincoln, Ronnie Anne and the little sisters also joined in as well.]
Lincoln: "I hope you ace that BAT tomorrow."
Lori: "With Bobby by my side, I'm not worried one bit."
[As if on cue, they heard beeping coming from outside, which could only mean one thing.]
Lucy: "Speak of the devil."
Lori: "Well, I better head back home. I'll see you all tomorrow!"
[Lori then stood to her feet and wobbled out of the room while her siblings and Ronnie Anne waved goodbye.]
The rest of the weekend was mostly uneventful. Lori and Bobby had been working hard for their BAT and were just about ready. Lori was really excited because she was finally going to make something of herself, as was Bobby. They also paid a few visits to the Loud House and had some help from the Loud family.
When Captain Palmer, Castleton's old superior, heard the news about his daughter's actions at school, he was visibly upset. He felt like he might've been partially to blame for his daughter's behavior, but he also knew that this punishment was for her own good given the circumstances and he promised to be a better father as soon as she was released.
Principal Rivers was indeed fired after the school board had learned everything. Oliver was then appointed temporary principal until further notice. And when that time comes, Oliver would either be unemployed, or stay as permanent principal or assistant.
As for Joey, he was suspended for a month due to his role in the whole incident.
At one point on Sunday, Bobby came over and played the Hero's Quest game with Lincoln and Ronnie Anne.
Monday...
[This was it. After two days of studying, the big day of the BAT finals have arrived. Lori and Bobby arrived at the school parking lot and Bobby got out first before walking to Lori's side and helping her out.]
[Bobby stood by his girlfriend's side as they walked across the parking lot towards the school grounds.]
Bobby: "So...how are you feeling right now? Anxious?"
Lori: "Literally."
Bobby: "Well, don't you worry. I'm sure that nothing bad is going to happen this time."
[Lori nodded, but she was still unsure.]
[After what seemed like forever, the couple made their way through the front doors of the school and into the building.]
[As they walked through the crowded halls, Lori came across Luna, who was wearing a hall monitor's banner. Lynn stood beside her, also wearing a hall monitor's banner.]
Luna: "Heya, young turks!"
Lori: "Hey, Luna. Wow, you and Lynn look different."
Luna: "Whatcha think? Principal Oliver made me and Lil' Lynn the school's new hall monitors."
Lynn: "Yeah, after what we did Friday night, I think we've totally earned it."
Lori: "You both look great. I think you'll do a better job than Moniqua did."
Luna: "We should. I've been doing a pretty rad job as Loud House authority figure ever since you and Bobsled left."
Lynn: "And thanks to those special training sessions with Ronnie Anne, I think we'll be able to bust any potential troublemaker in these halls."
Lori: "I'm happy for you, Luna. But what does Sam think of this?"
Luna: "She was pretty ecstatic when I told her. I got this little mark on the cheek to prove it."
[Luna pointed at the lipstick stain on her cheek and Lori could only smile.]
Lori: "Just make sure that Lynn doesn't lose control, Lunes."
Luna: "Hey, don't worry about it! I'll keep a sharp eye on the Lynnster in case she goes off the rails on a crazy train."
[Luna tousled her younger sister's hair as she said that.]
Lynn: "Yeah, no need to remind me. I'm not like Moniqua, you know."
[Lynn then gave her eldest sister her lucky jock strap.]
Lynn: "Good luck on that BAT Test, you guys. You're gonna need it."
[Lori nodded at her athletic sister before she and Bobby continued their way towards Mr. Dupree's class.]
[Lori had arrived in Mr. Dupree's classroom and sat at her desk, ready to take the test. Bobby sat at the desk beside her, about to do the same.]
[Just then, Mr. Dupree came into the room before handing everyone their sheets.]
Mr. Dupree: "Alright, everyone... Pay attention."
[The elderly teacher paced around the room as the students kept their eyes on him.]
Mr. Dupree: "Today, I am going to be in charge of the BAT exam. As you already know by now, this exam is going to determine your life choices and what they will lead you to in the future."
[Mr. Dupree then approached his desk and sat on it.]
Mr. Dupree: "If any one of you pass your exams, they will expect to be recommended by the college of their choice. All you have to do is be the best that you can be, and you'll be able to move forward in your lives."
[The students kept their attention to the teacher, though some were pretty confused by the way he was acting. What ever happened to that overbearing old man that they were used to?]
Mr. Dupree: "Alright then... Without further questions, the exam...starts...now."
[With that, the students started working on their sheets. Lori took her pencil and started looking over the questions and answers before considering which one is right. Bobby did the same from his desk. Filled with determination, Lori kept her focus on the sheet and the answers she made.]
Lori: This is it, Lori! You've worked so hard to get here, just keep focus!
[With every passing minute, Lori kept writing on which answer was correct and which wasn't.]
[Finally, after about fifteen minutes, the bell rang. Mr. Dupree walked over to each desk and took his student's results. When he took Lori's sheet, the pregnant blonde spoke up.]
Lori: "Mr. Dupree, you think you can grade mine now?"
[Just then, Lori heard Bobby clearing his throat.]
Lori: "And Bobby's, too?"
[Mr. Dupree nodded before taking a red marker out of his shirt. He could tell that Lori didn't want to risk another miss-evaluation like last time, and Mr. Dupree couldn't agree more. He decided to check over Lori's results first and then Bobby's. After a few minutes, Mr. Dupree used the marker to grade both sheets. He then looked down at Bobby and Lori.]
Mr. Dupree: "Lori...Bobby..."
[Mr. Dupree took a deep breath and exhaled.]
Mr. Dupree: "It pains me to say this, it really does, but..."
[Lori and Bobby anxiously looked at each other. They didn't like how Mr. Dupree started this sentence... But, Mr. Dupree looked at Lori and let out a small chuckle before giving them their sheets back, both with an A+.]
Mr. Dupree: "It looks like you might graduate after all. Congratulations! You've both aced the test!"
[Lori felt tears well up inside her as she felt like a weight was finally lifted from her shoulders. She stood up from her desk and ran into Bobby's arms before the Latino hugged her back. After just one day of defeat, and an extra three days of hard work, Lori was finally going to graduate high school.]
Mr. Dupree: "Alright, now why don't you two see principal Oliver? I think he's expecting you."
[With that, Bobby and Lori left the classroom and walked down the hallways until they approached the principal's office. They went inside and there was Oliver sitting in his former boss's chair.]
Oliver: "Ah, Lori and Bobby. I'm glad you made it. Have a seat."
[Bobby and Lori took their seats.]
Lori: "So how's your experience as principal going?"
Oliver: "I'm still learning a few ropes here and there, but I seem to be slowly improving. With any luck, I might be able to stay for a little longer."
[Oliver's face fell as he looked down at the desk.]
Oliver: "But, I am quite sad to see Rivers go. I know she's made some poor decisions in the past, but she was still human."
[Oliver sighed but then quickly brushed away the sorrow as he got back to the topic at hand.]
Oliver: "Anyway, enough about her. Let's see how you two did."
[Oliver then looked over a clipboard. After carefully examining what was on the clipboard, Oliver looked over at Bobby and Lori.]
Oliver: "From what I've seen in your progress, It seems that you've both earned enough points to find your places on the list."
[Lori softly gasped in amazement as tears started to form in her eyes.]
Bobby: "We did it, Babe!"
Oliver: "However, due to Lori's...complications, I don't think we'd recommend public college for either of you."
[Lori and Bobby felt a little dismayed at the news.]
Oliver: "We do have a solution to this problem, though."
[Lori and Bobby kept on listening.]
Oliver: "Have you both considered taking online college classes for the next few years? At least until your child is old enough?"
[Lori felt a little disappointed at the news, but she knew that Oliver had a fair point. Going to college while taking care of a baby seemed like a difficult task for both her and Bobby, which is why he suggested taking online classes. In any case, Lori nodded in agreement.]
Lori: "That's fine. I'll literally take what I can get."
Bobby: "I'm with her."
Oliver: "Excellent. I'm glad you two are on board with this. By the way, are you two going to be attending the Prom of Thrones this Wednesday?"
[The Prom of Thrones was the theme for this year's Valentines Day Prom, which was going to have a medieval-fantasy-theme. The students and teachers in the wood shop, home ec, and art classes have collaborated to make special thrones for the prom king and queen. Leni was also put in charge of designing the outfits for the event.]
Lori: "We are, but... I'm not so sure I'll win this year since Carol's the one that usually does so. Not that I, mind of course."
Oliver: "Now, don't give up hope, Lori. This year might actually turn out differently for you."
Lori: "What do you mean?"
Oliver: "I mean there's a good chance that you'll be able to break Carol's winning streak this year. You never know what might happen on the day of love."
[Lori thought for a moment. Valentine's Day had a tendency to be full of surprises, so she had no idea what the Prom of Thrones had in store for her.]
Lori: "I guess we'll have to wait and see."
[Lori gave Oliver a small smile for effect before the de-facto principal leaned over his desk.]
Oliver: "Alright, I will see you both at the prom...and maybe at the graduation as well."
[With that, Oliver extended his hand to the couple and Bobby gladly shook it.]
[Lori and Bobby were extremely happy that they're finally to graduate and embraced each other for what seemed like an eternity. Bobby then carried Lori in his arms bridal style and started walking through the hallways to the front doors, the teen Louds and the other students cheering them on as they approached the front doors.]
[Luna and her bandmates were giving the couple their "You rock" hand signals as they continued their way toward the doors.]
Luna: "Wo-hoo! You are the champions!"
[Lynn raised her arms in the air and jumped as she and her teammates rooted for the couple.]
Lynn: "YEEEEEAAAAH!"
[As soon as they reached the doors, Bobby kicked one of them open before he and Lori headed outside. To Lori, the whole experience was like after being married and getting carried by her groom into their new home, and she never wanted this fantasy to end. Of course, Bobby eventually made it back to Cathy and helped Lori in the passenger seat before taking the wheel and driving out of the parking lot.]
Later, at Lynn's Table Restaurant...
[Lori and Bobby were having a celebration feast at her father's restaurant along with her mother and the rest of her siblings and Ronnie Anne. Mr. Dupree was also at another table having some steak.]
Rita: "I'm so proud of you, honey. We all are."
Luan: "Yeah! We're all grad you finally made it!"
[Luan laughed while the others groaned in response, as per usual.]
Luan: "Get it?"
Lori: "Thanks again, guys."
Luna: "No problem, sis. Just don't let 'em ever change your point of view."
[Just then, Lynn Sr. had arrived with a tray carrying a cake with the words Congratulations, Bobby and Lori written on it in blue icing.]
Lynn Sr.: "Here you are, Honey. A special something for the soon-to-be adults!"
[Lynn placed the whole cake in the middle of the table. Each member of the family and Ronnie Anne had a slice of the cake while Lynn Sr. remained where he was by the table.]
Lynn Sr.: "I just can't believe my firstborn is finally going to graduate."
[Lynn Sr.'s eyes welled up with tears before he dropped to his knees and cried. Rita held her husband's hand for comfort.]
Mr. Dupree: "I can. You've definitely raised a smart young lady right there."
[Lynn Sr. let out a sniffle and wiped his eyes.]
Rita: "Thanks, but we also want to give praise to Bobby for being by her side."
Bobby: "Well, I couldn't let her just do this alone. We're a team, after all."
[Bobby wrapped his arm around Lori as he said those last few words. Lori could only close her eyes and lean her head against her boyfriend's shoulder.]
[At one point, Lola pointed her middle and index fingers at both her eyes before pointing them at Mr. Dupree as if she was saying "I'll be watching you." The old man felt a little unnerved and went back to eating his steak.]
Later that night...
It was now closing time and the celebration was over. Everyone who had left the restaurant got back in their vehicles and headed home.]
[Bobby had helped Lori into Cathy and was just about to get into the driver's seat when he heard a familiar voice speak up behind him.]
"Bobby? May I have a word with you?"
[Bobby turned around and saw Mr. Dupree.]
Mr. Dupree: "You two are planning on raising a family, aren't you?"
Bobby: "Well, not to sound like Luan, but... Lori DOES have the stomach to prove it."
[Lori rolled her eyes when she heard him.]
Mr. Dupree: "Right, well, could you do me a huge favor?"
Bobby: "What is it, sir?"
[Mr. Dupree walked up to Bobby, put his hands on the Latino's shoulders, and looked him straight in the eyes.]
Mr. Dupree: "I don't know what fate will have in store for you or the Louds, but no matter what it takes, I want you to protect your family at all costs."
Bobby: "Don't worry, sir. After everything that's happened so far, I'm not gonna let anything happen to my familia."
Mr. Dupree: "I know you won't, son...but please promise that you'll be careful. I don't want you ending up like I did long ago. Having to lose your family is just a nightmare waiting to happen."
Bobby: "I swear on my mother's grave that I'll protect them with my life... I promise you that."
[Mr. Dupree let him go. The young man then got into the driver's seat of his SUV before starting the vehicle.]
Bobby: "Thanks again, Mr. Dupree. We'll see you at the prom."
[With that, Bobby and Lori drove back to their apartment.]
Mr. Dupree: "Good luck, you two. And may God be by your side forever!"
[Mr. Dupree was walking to his car when he saw Castleton waiting by his police cruiser while chewing on some peppermint gum.]
Castleton: "Hey, old man."
Mr. Dupree: "Oh...hey. Wasn't expecting you to be here."
Castleton: "Yeah, I just thought I'd see how you were doing."
Mr. Dupree: "I'm doing better, now that you mention it."
Castleton: "That's good..."
[There was an awkward silence that lasted for about ten seconds. Castleton then spat out the gum into his hand before throwing the wad into a nearby trash can.]
Mr. Dupree: "You're still chewing peppermint as always, I see?"
Castleton: "Hey, I have to make sure I live until I'm sitting in a rocking chair on my front porch... No offense."
Mr. Dupree: "Point taken, kid."
[After another few seconds of silence, Mr. Dupree spoke again.]
Mr. Dupree: "You know, Cas... I've been watching you for a while. Your show isn't half-bad, to be honest. Hell, you've become quite the talk of the town...ever since you've put that scumbag Alex Santiago behind bars... Though, I never would've thought that I would take part in that show."
Castleton: "Yeah, he was a slippery son of a bitch, but now he'll be on his way to death row very soon."
Mr. Dupree: "Good riddance, I'd say... I've heard about all the things that asshole did to his family... Really messed up if you ask me."
Castleton: "I know..."
[Castleton sighed before he continued.]
Castleton: "Look...I'm really sorry I couldn't protect my family. I loved Carrie very much. I loved Quinton, and I loved Jeffrey too."
[Tears started forming in Castleton's eyes as he thought back to that fateful day. The police sergeant wiped his eyes before he spoke again.]
Castleton: "I'm sorry... I really fucked up there, but now I have to make sure that...no more families in this state suffer from anything or anyone that threatens their lives. Alex Santiago was nothing but a criminal and a scumbag excuse of a parent! And even though he had nothing to do with Carrie or the kids, the world is better off without people like him!"
Mr. Dupree: "Listen, I admire that you're putting families first, but you're not to blame for what happened to Carrie and the kids. I miss Carrie a lot, but what happened that day was nothing but an unfortunate event and it couldn't be predicted. I'm just glad that justice isn't completely dead in this cruel world."
Castleton: "Yeah..."
[After a few more seconds of silence, Castleton spoke again.]
Castleton: "So what are you going to do after the graduation in June?"
Mr. Dupree: "Well, I'm thinking about going into retirement, maybe move to the next town and open up a sandwich shop there. It's really hard work having to teach history...especially when you've been through some of it."
Castleton: "I know that feeling all too well."
[Castleton looked away for a moment before clearing his throat.]
Castleton: "Well, I must get back home. The work of a lawman is never done."
Mr. Dupree: "Alright, Cas."
[With that, Castleton walked back to his cruiser, but as he was about to get in, Dupree spoke.]
Mr. Dupree: "Cas?"
Castleton: "Yeah?"
[Mr. Dupree extended his hand to the police sergeant.]
Mr. Dupree: "Keep fighting the good fight, son."
[Castleton smiled, took his former father-in-law's hand and shook it.]
Castleton: "I will, old man. Thanks."
[With that, Castleton went into his cruiser and drove back to his place. Mr. Dupree then walked over to his own car, got in, and drove back to his house.]
Meanwhile...
[Bobby and Lori had arrived at the parking lot of Carlisle Park Apartments. Bobby got out first and walked over to the other side of the SUV before opening Lori's door and allowing her to get out.]
[On the way back to their apartment, they saw Nate and Mirah waiting for them by the stairway.]
Nate: "Hey, Bobby, welcome back! How did you and Lori do on the BAT?"
Bobby: "Awesome! It was a really difficult run, but Lori and I are finally ready to graduate high school together."
Mirah: "Why that's wonderful! Lori, you and Bobby must come inside and tell us how it all went down."
Lori: "That sounds great, ma'am, but we should get some rest. We've literally had a pretty big celebration earlier."
Mirah: "Oh, come on, Lori. It's only for a few minutes and then you two can just go back home. What do you say?"
Lori: "Well...if you say so."
[Bobby and Lori then followed the two homeowners into their apartment. They all sat down in the living room and the couple told Nate and Mirah everything, from the Bleak Friday, to the moment when they finally passed.]
Lori: "And if it weren't for my sisters, I would've had to repeat the entire 12th grade while raising my baby."
Mirah: "Outstanding, you guys!"
Nate: "By the way, how's your little friend liking Hero's Quest so far? Did you play it with him?"
Bobby: "Well, Lincoln's been playing it with my little sister since he got it. From what he told me, he just reached the end, and he thought it was a rad experience. And yes, I did play a few rounds with him on Saturday. In fact, I also came here to give you your copy back. It's right here."
[Bobby took the copy of Hero's Quest out of his jacket and handed it over to Nate.]
Bobby: "Don't worry. He created a new save file."
Nate: "Ooh! That's great! But... Can I tell you a secret?"
Bobby: "Sure?"
[Nathan left the room for a minute and came back with a small cardboard box. He set the box on the table and took out another copy of the Hero's Quest game.]
Nate: "As it turns out, I had four copies of this game to spare, so I'm sharing them with anyone who's a fan of RPGs."
Bobby: "Wow! This is quite a surprise."
[Nate then took a second copy out of the box and gave it to Bobby.]
Nate: "Your little friend can have this copy, but I would like you to have one as well. Call it a little gift for acing that test."
[Bobby looked at his girlfriend, who simply shook her head.]
Bobby: "Thanks, but we're gonna have a lot on our plate for a few days. I think we might have some free time on the day after the Prom of Thrones. So I guess I'll gladly take your word for it."
[And with that, Bobby acquired both copies of "A Hero's Quest."]
Nate: "You're a good man, Bobby. I know you'll do better than I did."
Bobby: "How so?"
Nate: "I mean, I could've gone to college, gotten married, had kids... But instead I had to drop out due to my love of gaming."
Bobby: "Oh... Well thanks, Nate! I'll lend the other copy to Lincoln tomorrow."
Nate: "You two have a good night, alright?"
[Bobby and Lori stood up and started heading for the front door.]
Nate: "And when you get the chance, show this game to your girlfriend! She might love the romantic cutscenes!"
Bobby: "If that's okay with her."
[Bobby turned his attention towards Lori, who just shrugged.]
Bobby: "She says it's fine."
[And with that, Bobby and Lori went back to their apartment with the games.]
[Bobby and Lori were watching an on-demand romantic-comedy movie on their TV. Lori leaned on Bobby's shoulder while the young man wrapped his arm around her.]
[At one point during a commercial break, Lori's cell phone started ringing. The pregnant young woman sat up and looked at the caller ID to see that it was Carol.]
Lori: "You mind if I go outside? Carol's on the phone."
Bobby: "Sure thing, babe."
[With that, Lori stood up and went outside, resting her arms on the concrete wall before speaking to Carol on the phone.]
Lori: "Hi, Carol. What's happening?"
Carol: "Hey, Lori. Congratulations on passing the BAT test."
Lori: "Thank you."
Carol: "By the way, I heard that you and Bobby are going to the Prom of Thrones on Wednesday."
Lori: "Yeah, we're still going. But it's not like I'll be Prom Queen this year. I know from past experience that you'll win again... Not that I mind of course, Bobby and I just want to have a good time."
Carol: "I appreciate that you're being mature about this, but..."
Lori: "But what?"
Carol: "Well...maybe... What if there's a chance that you and Bobby will be taking the title of Prom King and Queen this year? Since I'll also be graduating four months from now."
Lori: "I know, Carol, but do I look like prom queen material in my condition?"
Carol: "Lori, it doesn't matter what condition you're in. That hasn't stopped you from making the graduation list, has it?"
Lori: "No, it hasn't."
Carol: "And don't you remember what happened after I beat you for homecoming queen two years ago?"
Lori: "Oh, how could I forget? Bobby walked up to me, he took my hand, and we danced."
[Lori sighed dreamily as she thought back to that day.]
Lori: "Literally romantic."
Carol: "Exactly! So it won't matter what condition you're in. Just get up on that stage and be yourself."
Lori: "Thanks, but all I want is to have a lovely Valentine's Day with Bobby. You and Errol just do your thing and win your title as usual."
[Over at the Pingrey house, Carol took Lori's words and put them into her mind. She really appreciated the fact that her best friend wasn't going to allow her mind to be clouded by the title of Prom Queen, but does the class president really want to keep that title one last time before she graduates?]
Lori: "Carol? Are you still there?"
[Carol snapped out of her thoughts and spoke to Lori again.]
Carol: "Alright, Lori. Listen, I have to go to bed now. I'm very happy that you're gonna graduate, and I'll see you at the Prom on Wednesday. Okay?"
Lori: "Okay, Carol. Bobby and I will see you there. Good night."
[With that, Lori hung up and put the phone back in her pocket before looking up at the bright blue moon in the sky.]
[Just then, Bobby went outside and approached Lori.]
Bobby: "Babe? What's going on?"
Lori: "Oh, nothing. Carol and I were just talking about the prom."
Bobby: "I see. I'll bet you can't wait to go there."
Lori: "How can I? It's literally my favorite time of the year."
Bobby: "I know. And any favorite holiday of yours is mine too."
[Lori giggled and continued looking at the moon. Bobby then stood by his girlfriend and held her hand before leaning his elbow on the concrete wall.]
Lori: "The moon's literally beautiful tonight...isn't it?"
Bobby: "Yeah...but not as beautiful as you. I mean, you basically have the same shade of blue as the moon."
Lori: "You really think so?"
Bobby: "I know so."
Lori: "Oh, Boo-Boo Bear..."
[As Lori and Bobby held each other's hands, Lori had something on her mind.]
Lori: "Thank you for standing by me through this."
Bobby: "Of course. No way was I gonna let you do this alone."
Lori: "Bobby? Do you think... No never mind."
Bobby: "What is it?"
Lori: "You think I'll have a chance at being prom queen this year?"
Bobby: "What brought that up?"
Lori: "Well, from what I know by experience, Carol will probably be crowned Queen of the Prom of Thrones. She told me I might have a chance to win this year, but...I'm not too sure if that'll happen."
Bobby: "Do you want to be prom queen this year?"
Lori: "Bobby! That was the old me! I just want to have a wonderful Valentine's Day before we graduate. That's all that matters to me."
[Bobby smiled before putting his hand on her cheek.]
Bobby: "This is our last year in high school, and also the last High School Prom we'll ever experience. But one thing's for sure: Whether we win or not, I'm gonna make sure we have the best night of our lives. And when that's done...I think we have another challenge to tackle."
[Bobby placed his hand on Lori's belly and rubbed it lovingly, signifying that in a few more weeks, their baby would soon be born.]
Bobby: "And I'll be right there with you when the time comes."
[Lori put her free hand on Bobby's in response.]
Lori: "I know you will... I love you so much."
[And with that, Lori and Bobby kissed in front of the moonlight. As they continued making out, questions started flooding Lori's mind: Would Carol win the title of Prom Queen once again, or will Lori stand a chance of winning the title this year before graduation? There was only one way to find out...at the Prom of Thrones.]
See? I told you things would be resolved in the next chapter. So now, Moniqua is now put in her place, Castleton and Dupree have made up, and Bobby and Lori made the graduation list, though they'll have to wait until June for the ceremony.
Mike The Red Engine: Thanks again, Mate.
Hawkeye2006: Well there'll be no need to worry about her.
DarthWill3: I have a feeling someone will have a recorder. Probably not the Louds, though.
Ellis97: Oh, I wouldn't say that.
Jacksonangelo105: Oh, it'll come.
Geo Soul: Yes.
pj04042000: Here it is.
MoreABoutThomas: I'm sure he will.
Tristen: Thank you.
Joelcampos31: Don't worry, she's getting what's coming to her.
