Yuuei is a large school, one that has several stories on two towers rising from the base. Seeing it a second time, knowing that he's going to be a student, Izuku Midoriya can't help but feel awe yet again. He sways on his feet, staring up at the shining glass building with rising anxiety.
A hand pats his back, leading him to look to the blonde girl next to him. "You're not going to faint on the first day of school are you?" She teases.
"Nope!" He yelps, taking a stiff step forward. "I'm just... We're finally here!" He gives her a big, gleaming grin. "We made it to Yuuei, and we'll soon both be heroes!"
"Yeah, just gotta get past your head start." She elbows him gently. "Good luck."
"You, too!" He pats her on the head and hurries off, not really thinking about it since she acts so familiar with him as well.
He can barely hear a giggle behind him before the doors separate them.
"Alright, so... 1-A, right?" He hurries down the hall to the left, stopping at the first classroom on his right. "That was fast... and these doors are massive!" He looks up at it, muttering for a bit. "Could it be to allow access for quirks that make them larger?" He wonders, grabbing the handle and tugging on it. "I wonder who will be my classmates..."
"Bakugou-san!" Iida's voice greets him as the taller teen points at the shoes on the desk. "Put your feet down at once! Be respectful to the furniture that our seniors once sat in!"
"Lay off, Glasses," he growls back, not even changing position.
"...oh dear," Izuku mutters, seeing the two of them about to get into an argument.
Many of the other students seem to be either gathered in their own small groups or watching the exchange with a myriad of expressions.
One student, a girl with long black hair in a ponytail, sighs and talks to him from her seat. "Could you possibly calm down?"
Bakugou immediately whips around, shouting at her, "What was that?!"
"Or turn it down." Mutters another girl with short purple hair.
He growls at her. "Shut up, Earlobes!"
Izuku sighs and walks over, getting Bakugou's attention. "Hey, Kacchan. Maybe you should listen to them?" He starts to wilt a bit under his glare. "W-we don't know how things work here?" He manages, slumping when his childhood friend turns away, sitting sideways in his chair.
"Hmm... well, it's a start." A familiar green haired girl with big eyes nods, holding a finger to the side of her mouth.
The green-eyed boy perks up when his eyes land on her. "Oh! You're in this class, too?"
"Yep, glad to see you made it in." Tsu nods at him.
He smiles at her, nodding once. "I'm glad you made it in, too, Asui-san."
"Call me Tsu." She gently but firmly corrects.
He falters slightly. "Ah, r-right. Sorry, As-" He clears his throat when he feels her stare intensify, squeaking out, "Tsu-san."
With that, the door to the classroom opens once more and two more forms come in, one familiar and one not.
"Morning!" An enthusiastic and visible exclamation is directed towards the newcomers from the manga-looking boy Izuku met yesterday.
A boy with a black bolt in his yellow hair starts counting people, frowning a bit. "That's nineteen, now... is that everyone?"
The blonde beside him gives him a wary look, his tail twitching slightly. "You forgot to count yourself."
"Did you think someone wouldn't show up?" Asks a floating school uniform behind them.
"I was expecting someone to be delayed due to a villain attack," he says. "It'd be the kind of neat story to tell, wouldn't it?"
Izuku notices the supposedly empty uniform, blushes brightly, and hurries over to speak with his friend who just appeared. "Uraraka-san!" He calls, smiling at her despite his embarrassment. "Isn't it great we're all in the same class?"
She beams and grips the straps of her backpack. "Yep! I didn't know how many separate classes we had, so I was worried but hopeful!"
"There are two hero classes and eleven overall," Iida calls over, pausing right before his introduction to the other student who came in with Ochako. "Greetings! My name is Tenya Iida, and I come from Soumei Middle School!"
The new horned girl seems a bit surprised as being greeted directly like this, smiling and waving a hand before she speaks. "Morning good! My name, Pony Tsunotori!" Her mouth twitches after as though her tongue isn't used to the movements.
Iida looks slightly confused, but gives her a warm smile. "I hope we have a productive school year together!"
Izuku blinks, looking at her curiously. Before he can say a word, Bakugou decides to speak up.
"Horns, are you American? Your Japanese needs work."
"Kacchan!" Izuku whines, quickly turning to Pony. "Don't worry, we can help you with that! Kaachan actually had the highest English score in our school."
She immediately beams, clapping her hands together once as the words flow out of her. "Oh, I'd very much appreciate that! Thank you!"
Ochako looks sheepish as she takes a seat and mutters to Izuku. "Is it bad I didn't notice and thought she just had an accent?"
"No, I think it's understandable," he says, gently smiling at her. "We weren't expecting a student from outside Japan, so we made assumptions."
"You might as well take a seat," Bakugou tells Pony, jerking a thumb to the one beside him. "There's no telling when the teacher will show up."
"Thanking you!" She chirps, taking her seat.
A few seats behind them, a boy with pointed red hair nudges the scarred boy next to him. "Looks like someone has a soft spot."
This second boy doesn't comment.
A third boy to their other side poses with hands on his cheeks, watching the angry blonde try to explain the right words to the happy blonde. "It is rather fabulous how he's not blowing his top at her."
Katsuki immediately rounds on them, eyes narrowed in anger. "You got something to say, Sparkles?"
"Moi?" He places a hand on his chest as a sweat drop drips down his cheek. "Not at all! Continue how you were!"
Another boy with mixed dark and light blue hair and four-pointed star pupils looks over. When he sees he's not the one being addressed, he goes back to a small drink he's sipping.
Iida notices, frowning a bit and making his way over. "Gingawa-san! You need a teacher's permission to drink anything in class!"
The boy blinks at this before answering hesitantly. "… does it count as class if it hasn't started yet?"
He is about to respond, but pauses, frowning deeply as he gives the question due diligence. "...put it away when the teacher shows up, okay?"
"That's the plan." He quickly finishes the rest of it before stowing the bottle in his backpack.
Iida nods before heading back to his seat, glancing at the door as he does so.
He looks just in time for it to open and reveal a tall disheveled man. His black hair falls down to almost shoulder length and his expression looks drained. His tired eyes scan over them all as he stands in the door.
Iida, uncertain who it is, rushes to get into his seat just in case.
The man shuffles over to the teachers desk, commenting. "You need to be a bit more logical. If an adult shows up at class time on your first day, there's only a few options. Getting quick readings on situations is essential."
The glasses-wearing teen nods in agreement, and Izuku jots that down to share with Toga, later.
"I'll be your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Now then," He reaches into the yellow sleeping bag that almost everyone missed and pulls out two stacks of uniforms. "Each of you get changed into your gym uniforms and meet down in the sports yard."
The ponytailed girl blinks in surprise, awkwardly raising her hand. "Sir? May I ask why?"
He lifts his head to gaze at them all. "Orientation can wait. First, it's time for a Quirk Apprehension Test."
The star-eyed boy gulps, and he is not alone.
It is mere minutes later that they're down at the field, and Izuku is quietly searching for his friends. A part of his mind whirls, trying to guess each person's quirk from seeing them, but some just elude him. Off to the side, he can see Bakugou talking to Pony, his face in a scowl as he glances around at the other students.
She seems just as curious about this as the rest, though perhaps a bit more confused.
"Alright, now I assume you all remember the basic barrage of physical fitness assessment activities?" Aizawa begins.
Iida immediately nods in the affirmative. "Yes, sir!"
The guy with the black bird head gives him a look. "I'm sure we could answer for ourselves," he mumbles.
"It was also rhetorical and needed no answer, if any of you answered 'no' there would be other more pressing issues." Aizawa points to Bakugou and pulls out a modified baseball. "What's your record for tossing these?"
Bakugou frowns as he considers this, fingers tapping on his forearm. "Sixty-seven meters, I think."
"And they didn't let you use your quirk to be fair." He concludes. "As a hero, you will need to be proficient and more with your quirk, so its use is going to be the norm here. Try using it and see how far you can get." He tosses the ball to him and pulls out a small device.
He weighs it in his hand, eyeing the modifications as he thinks. He glances at Pony as he heads to the circle, rolling the sphere in his fingers. "You said use our quirks however we want for these exercises, sir?"
The teacher raises an eyebrow at the language change, but replies smoothly. "That's correct."
Pony pumps her fist, as though she is confirming what she thought she heard.
He grins, turning and reeling his arm back, small pops of smoke forming around his fingers. He performs a perfect pitch, punctuated by a precise explosion that sends the ball soaring and single word in a scream.
"DIE!"
While some students make sounds of amazement, Aizawa calmly checks the device. "Seven hundred five point two meters, quite a bit more than without."
"That's amazing!" A pink-skinned girl by Uraraka says, fists clenched. "As expected from the top-scorer!"
Bakugou turns to her with a scowl. "I'm not the top-scorer. I'm one of two." He points at Izuku, smirking a bit. "He's the other, but I'll beat him soon enough."
"Good, because there's a point in today's activities." Aizawa interrupts. "I'll be using these tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none, and will be expelled immediately."
Several faces pale.
"But that's not fair!" The pink girl from before exclaims.
"Who said it was?" He levels a look at her.
"Surely we'd have heard of such a practice..." A girl with vine hair in the group says quietly to the rest.
"Truly, a most pressing trial would be known by everyone," the bird-headed boy says. "And our sister classes would be subjected to similar tribulations. Yet there exists no sign of other groups."
"Did we just get bad luck?" The spiky red haired boy asks.
"Surely not," a slightly chubby boy beside him says, uncertain.
"Now when I call your name, come up and prove to me you deserve to be here." Their teacher continues.
Izuku quietly gulps, shuffling closer to his friends and helping Bakugou relay the instructions to Pony.
She pales slightly, looking worriedly between them all.
Bakugou just pats her on the shoulder as the first name is called.
"Ochako Uraraka."
The brunette that Izuku knows well steps up and takes a ball. She takes a breath and throws it, sending it soaring into the air... where it doesn't stop. There's a slightly awkward sixty seconds of everyone waiting before the device in the teacher's hand beeps and simply shows an infinity symbol.
"...wow." The manga boy's voice and face say what they are all thinking.
Izuku smiles and politely applauds for her.
"Nirengeki Shoda."
The chubby boy walks up, taking the ball and standing in the circle. Taking a breath, he punches the sphere and chucks it into the air, the trajectory appearing rather normal. Suddenly, it gains a second boost at the peak of its arch, going much farther away than it would have before.
"Pony Tsunotori."
The girl approaches and looks determined. When she's handed the ball, she reaches up and stabs it on one of her horns, getting a few odd looks. She tilts her head down before said horn suddenly launches off, ball included.
Bakugou is speechless, not having expected that.
Izuku is writing in his notebook, having somehow smuggled it out onto the field. He mutters about possible uses for the quirk and wonders how long she can control them for, if at all.
The blonde Explosion user leans closer, reading over Izuku's shoulder. "...see if her legs gained extra power?" He quotes.
"I mean she does have hoov-" Ochako's observation is cut off as Pony runs up to the group, looking excited and slightly asymmetrical.
"I am hope I did good!" She says.
Izuku looks up at the score, smiling at her. "You did great. Hey, how much control do you have over your horns? How fast do they grow back? Are your legs stronger than normal?" He asks his questions rapid fire, pen poised over his notebook, ready to record her answers.
The barrage seems to stun her as she tries to process it, ending up only answering one question. "No worry! They grow back!" As she says this, a new horn exactly like the old one pops out of her head, fully grown.
The green-haired boy stares for a moment before rapidly writing this down, muttering to himself all the while.
Bakugou sighs quietly and repeats the questions slower, in English. "Deku wants to know if you control them, and if your legs are strong."
Ochako looks over at the name, but Pony answers happily. "Oh! Umm, yes and... I think so."
The writing becomes more pronounced, as well as the mumbles. Catching a bit, Bakugou looks at the teen with a raised eyebrow, then back to the half-American. "Can you ride on them?"
She blinks, looking thoughtful. "I never tried, hmm..."
"Hozarou Gingawa." Their teacher announces the next student, having continued while they were talking.
Izuku finishes just in time to look up, seeing what he can gather from this next student.
"Okay... less heat, more density..." Hozarou mutters as he winds his arm back and tosses... two things. One is the ball, but the other appears to be a white star of just smaller size. As the two soar off, the star goes in a straight line while the ball begins to dip, but suddenly it rises up and over the star, coming back down on the other side as it starts an orbit. Hozarou swallows as he watches the newly made satellite continue to orbit the aspect of his quirk for a time before he finally lets the star pop and propel it just a bit farther.
Izuku blinks the spots out of his eyes. "...how is he not blinding himself? Is he related to Thirteen?"
Ochako tilts her head. "Good question."
"Izuku Midoriya."
Izuku blinks once more and steps into the circle. Taking the ball, he gently grasps it, staring down at his hand for a moment. He quickly runs through his team in his mind, his expression growing panicked with each one he dismisses. He then blurts out, "NONE OF THEM HAVE THUMBS!"
"Huh?" Hozarou, being still near the line, looks confused.
Ochako blinks before her eyes widen.
He paces back and forth in the circle, a hand over his mouth as he stares at the ball he's holding. "Lucario's strong, but he can't hold on to it. Any attacks would destroy it. Frogadier might just stick to it. No way I'm letting out Lycanroc, and Toxel can't do anything to it…" He weighs his last two options for a moment before sighing. "Here goes nothing." He shifts to the red, white and black bunny, instantly dropping the ball on top of his foot, balancing it there.
Aizawa gives him a flat stare, but doesn't say anything, still holding his device.
He lifts the foot up and down for a moment before launching the ball straight up. As it reaches the peak of its arch, he brings back that same foot and kicks it on its return, launching off into the distance, smoke trailing off it.
There's scattered applause as the teacher notes the number and writes it down.
He hurries back over to Ochako, looking up at her with a beaming grin, visible past the hoodie-styled fur over his mouth.
She raises a hand to him so he can clap it.
He jumps up and smacks it, laughing boisterously once he lands.
Bakugou stares at him, brow furrowed in confusion. "...is this really the same Deku?" He mutters.
He doesn't get too much time to think on it as the teacher herds them to the next activity of many.
Aizawa guides them to a short track and lines some of them up. "One at a time, fifty meter dash."
"Tenya Iida."
He nods and gets down into position, his engines quietly rumbling to life. As soon as the gun sounds to start he's off, legs a blur and the machine within roaring with exertion. He passes the finish line quickly enough.
While other students look in awe, Aizawa simply writes down the score as he had been.
"At fifty meters, I could only get to third gear," he mutters, rubbing his chin as he walks away.
"Tsuyu Asui."
The frog girl from before goes to the line, crouching on the spot and almost seeming to compress. When the start is announced, she springs almost halfway down the course and hops the rest of the way, ending with a good time.
Iida smiles at her, holding out a hand. "That was a great time," he says to her.
She ribbits and shakes his hand. "Thanks! Not quite your blur, but I think I'm pretty agile."
He chuckles, nodding once. "I appreciate the compliment. So I heard you met Midoriya-san during the entrance exam, Asui-san?" He glances back briefly to see Izuku running the fifty as his bunny self, tripping right at the end as he changes back.
She nods. "Yep, I met him as a frog buddy."
"You mean the one with the bubbles around his neck?" He tries to clarify.
She nods just as another name is called.
"Mashirao Ojiro."
The blonde boy with the tail walks forward, getting into position with his extra appendage raised. The muscles in it tense as he waits for the signal. The gun is fired and he slams his tail down, launching himself forward. He manages this a couple more times as he sprints before landing awkwardly at the end.
There are a few comments appreciating how strong his tail is.
"Mina Ashido."
The pink girl walks forward, giving the teacher a grin. When it isn't returned, she falters slightly and simply sets herself up at the start line. When the start gun fires, she's off, skating across the ground on top of a trail of a clear liquid. She's pretty fast, almost hitting five seconds with her time.
Izuku by this point has worn out a pen, staring at it as if it betrayed him.
The red haired boy cheers on the pink girl from the sidelines as she crosses the finish line.
She grins and hurries over, pumping her fist. "I think I did well!"
"Yeah you did!" He holds up two hands for her.
Mina immediately gives him a double high five, before turning contemplative. "...so is that one guy's quirk to turn into a cute bunny?"
"Maybe, there's a rabbit hero in the top heroes after all. Maybe he's working to be like her." He guesses.
She looks up, thoughtful for a moment before waving her hand away. "Makes more sense than them being related."
He nods as the rest of the students do their runs and they move on to the next event: Grip Strength.
Izuku is sweating at this, still unsure what to do with no thumbs on any of his Pokémon. He fusses over it, pacing back and forth as he thinks of what to do.
"Can your paws really not hold anything?" Ochako asks.
"I can if I'm using both of them..." He trails off, mind working rapidly before he's suddenly a Lucario, the device looped around one paw. He places the other one on the outside of the grip and pulls them together, getting a bit of a wobble from his arms as he does so.
"I mean... seems like it works to me." She nods as their teacher goes down the list.
"Fumikage Tokoyami."
The bird-headed boy walks forward, taking one of the devices and holding it to the side. A dark form shaped similarly to him comes out of his body, grabbing the grip along with him as they both squeeze.
There's a few sounds of surprise as his score is written down.
"Ibara Shiozaki."
The girl with vine hair walks up. She takes the device in her hand and examines it before her vines suddenly wrap around it from either side and start tugging it, as if trying to rip it apart.
The dark projection blinks at the lady, elbowing his partner. "Hey. She's pretty... strong, I mean."
Tokoyami sighs, his demeanor reflecting that this is not the first time this has happened, nor does he expect it to be the last. "Go back inside, Dark Shadow."
He seems to sulk. "You're no fun," the living quirk says, though it obediently goes back into his body.
She tilts her head a bit in his direction before giving a soft smile and walking past. "I am glad you are in control of your demons."
Rather caught flat-footed, he can only reply, "Uh... demons have no sway over me, nor over my partner, while the light shines down on our dark souls."
"Then I will pray for your continued salvation." Shiozaki nods.
"Eijiro Kirishima."
"Yeah, my turn!" The red haired boy walks up and takes the device. "Let's see what you got!" He grips it in one hand, and as he strains, his body almost seems to become more angular and rigid.
Izuku rubs his chin with his paw, eyeing this curiously, wishing he still had a pen to write with. "Is it strengthening? Hardening? Some kind of cutting ability?"
Iida sighs, gesturing to the Pokémon with his hand. "Midoriya-san, your thoughts are projecting, again."
As he walks over, Kirishima smiles at Izuku. "Nice look, you can transform into a bunch of stuff, huh?"
"Only six Pokémon," he replies, looking up at the taller boy. Then again, looking around, he's the shortest one there, right now. "They're pretty balanced, all things considered."
"Cool! Not sure you can top metal spikes, but I guess we'll see." He grins.
"You already saw Raboot," he points out, holding a paw up. "Oh, right, before I forget, what is your quirk, exactly?"
Kirishima smiles with his pointed teeth and hits one arm with the other, sounding almost like rocks hitting each other. "Hardening, I can make myself tougher!"
He blinks a few times. "...so you're like a Golem?"
"What, like made of rocks? Nah, I'm just me!" He gives a thumbs up, which he then hardens, making it taller and somehow more emphasized.
He leans closer, observing the thumb from inches away. "So... how do you do it? Is it like flexing a muscle? Can you last longer or get sharper if you train it more? Can you harden everything, including eyes and ears?"
Eijiro raises his other hand and rubs his head as he tries to keep up. "I mean, it's my quirk so it feels like a muscle, probably, and… yes."
He gets treated to the sight of a Lucario's eyes sparkling with happiness. "Amazing..."
"Heh, thanks! I'm hoping to see more of what everyone can do."
"Same!" He gives him a grin, almost immediately turning back into himself. "Hey, do you have a pen?"
He shakes his head. "No, sorry, those are in my backpack in the classroom."
Izuku quietly pouts, missing the last students up at the activity.
So I apologize if this one is of lower quality compared to the others. I haven't had much free time recently, helping family out with chores among other things.
Anyways, as I'm sure you noticed, Class 1-A is different! Like I said before, I threw the two classes, minus the recommendation students, into a number randomizer and used the results. And, since there was an OC thrown in there as well... I'm sorry to say that Bondo didn't make the cut. Apologies to Bondo fans out there.
Anyways! This chapter is one of two (at least) that are here to help introduce or explain just who is in this version of the class. And also give hints as to the other aspects of his power... and one major flaw.
Let me know what you think! Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated, as well! Thank you all so very much for reading!
Have a nice day! Enigma out!
