Hello everyone to the next chapter of the Remnant League!
Last time we left off, Jaune went to Quartz Tunnel and picked up a few items, including his first Pokémon partner.
But let me assure you that our buddy Aron won't be the last one he will pick.
After all... this is a Pokémon adventure.
Also, I'd like to ask the readers here a question.
If you have nicknames for future Pokémon that come up for some of the crew of our characters. Would you like to put some in when they show up? I wouldn't mind , in fact you can put them in the comment section or PM me and I'll look at them and decide which one to use, I'll definitely give you a shout out.
Well... if you have a name that is, I don't know how I'm gonna do Guests but regardless.
I'll be choosing some, so others will be off limits, don't worry I'll only name some of them. The rest is yours for the taking!
Anyways! This is the chapter with the time skip, so now four years have passed and now Jaune is 17 years old.
However let us switch gears to another hopeful prospect that might or might not be about to go on their journey through Remnant Region.
This trainer is about to go on her Pokémon journey through the Remnant Region, and will be one of the more younger ones to become a trainer.
But enough of me yapping, let's get this show on the road.
I don't own RWBY or Pokémon...
Chapter 3: Budding of New Beginnings
(Patch Island, Foliage Forest)
The beautiful island of Patch was in its Spring year, the flowers were in full bloom and the trees and wildlife singing their songs while being one with nature. Plenty of Pokémon lived on the island, with plenty of different types for trainers to enjoy.
However toward the west of the decent sized island was a forest area called the Foliage Forest, it was well known throughout the trainer community for premium Pokémon of specific type.
The forest was chalked full of healthy, strong Bug and Grass Pokémon, sprawled all over the forested area.
The creepy crawlies and lovely looking plant Pokémon were out in full force in this beautiful area of Patch, especially during the Spring season. This forest was every Bug Catcher or Grass type trainers dream. Many trainer alike flock like a Spearow to Patch Island to catch a strong Bug type or Grass type Pokémon
This morning the forest was alive with activity as Combee were gathering pollen from the flowers, most likely for their Vespiquen queens for delicious honey, Pineco, Burmy, Metapod, and Swadloon were all hanging from the large trees relaxing in the morning sun, enjoying the day away as the trees that they lay in sported healthy green leaves that signified the trees condition. In the same berth there were plenty of Oddish and Gloom, with a Vileplume or two spreading pollen to the flowers and other plants to make them healthy and strong.
The Foliage Forest upkeep was group effort from each type of Pokémon to live in harmony here on the island as the Grass Pokemon strengthen the plants and the Bug Pokémon carry those pollen all across the forest area when they are around their grass type friends.
There were other fully evolved bugs like Butterfree and Beedrill flying through the forest trees, while others like Heracross and Ledian decided to get the sap from trees and just meander around the forest, while other bugs like Joltik, Karrablast, and Venonat were enjoying the berries that some of the berry trees and bushes has around them. Bellsprout, Petilil, and Shroomish dancing
It looked peaceful for most of these Pokémon, living off the fertile land around them, making communities and living in peace and harmony.
However...some of the bugs of the Pokémon world were not as... friendly as others.
The sound of rapid flapping wings in the middle of the forest grove rang out as two strong bugs fight for dominance in nature.
"Kurk Kurk!" The mighty form of a Pinsir, the brown beetle with pincers on top of its head with and flat teeth was crying out from the electric hit that it took. The opponent in question was a Vikavolt, another strong Bug Pokémon looking to be the top dog in this part of Foliage Forest.
But the mighty Pinsir was not giving up the challenge for dominance so easily as its hand was coated in a white light for its next attack, coming at its rival with powerful looking Brick Break strike.
However the Vikavolt decided to counterattack with an X-Scissor of its own to meet the attack.
"Vikaaaa!" The two combatants were in a power struggle as they both pushed against each other. This would be a fight for the ages here in the forest as other Pokémon watched in trees and bushes for the winner of this skirmish.
But if the Pokémon would look closely, there was some activity in the bushes, another visitor that wasn't a Pokémon was observing the confrontation.
A sixteen year old girl with silver eyes with a red hoodie and some jean shorts with red and black sneakers. Her dark black hair with red tips were on display for the world as her head with red colored headphones resting on her neck.
The girl in question was peaking through the bush with a pair of binoculars looking at the fight at hand.
But she looked displeased for some reason...
"Awww... Its not here. Bummer." Ruby Rose, an up incoming trainer for the Remnant Region whined out. The girl kept searching through the plethora of Bug Type Pokémon. Ariados, Kricktune, Parasect, Pinsir, Vikavolt, all of these amazing Bug types that were on display today for the little girl.
"Yet not the one I want to catch." She looked to her watch as it read 10 AM, she kept looking from her position and was feeling a bit more antsy. She needed to hurry and find this rare Bug before her test match that she had to have against her father. This match could decide her fate of becoming a Pokémon trainer now and to compete in the Remnant League!
But she needed the perfect Pokémon to do it, and while her best friend Zwei could probably win against anything her dad throws at her, she wanted to have a super cool Pokémon that's badass while doing it.
Not that her Yamper couldn't look flashy but still.
"SCY!" Ruby let out a small gasp as she heard the loud cry that she had been waiting for!
Out of the bushes and shrubbery of the Foliage Forest came the one and only...
"Eiiii! A Scyther is here!" The girl couldn't help but squeal loudly as she saw the large Mantis Pokémon. Its three pronged head, its light green bipedal body that looked strong, two shiny bladed arms that shined from the sun reflecting off of it and cold blue piercing eyes that screamed cool.
Ruby couldn't help but fangirl over one of the coolest Pokémon ever, in her opinion. She couldn't help herself, ever since she'd been a kid Ruby had seen Scyther and its evolved form Scizor in action on TV and they'd always been so metal when fighting opponents.
The blades, the speed, and the absolute butt they kicked, it was love at first sight.
"Or what my sister would say love at first Scyther." Ruby actually felt sick from that horrible pun that Yang told her back then. But she was getting off track when she should be paying attention.
She saw the Mantis Pokémon head towards the fight against the Pinsir and Vikavolt, looking to fight in the match as well. However Ruby wanted to get on the action herself, her body wanting to jump out and attack with Zwei, but cooler thoughts prevailed from blowing her cover.
"This it Ruby... calm yourself. You can wait for a few extra minutes. " Ruby took deep breaths to calm herself and tried to keep focus on the task at hand. This looked like a strong healthy Scyther with how green its body , but now she had to see it in combat before pouncing on the Pokémon.
"Just let them fight, then when all of them are tired I'll swoop in, Zwei will fight the pooped out big guy and then catch my new friend." She couldn't wait to catch Scyther. She had been waiting and spying for one for weeks and she had always wanted one for years.
Now was the time to wait and be on lookout, and then when the moment comes...
"I'll pounce!" Raising her fist through the bush.
The other two Pokémon were a little worried about this newest challenger, but that concern flew out the windows as both rivals looked towards the intimidating opponent. The Scyther had its bladed arms out, ready for combat.
Both Pokémon charged at the new challenger, Vikavolt with an X-Sisscor and the Pinsir with rushing in with a Brick Break coming out Scyther. Ruby was watched in awe on how the Mantis Pokémon gonna get out of this.
"Scyther Scy!" The Scyther split into two more copies, using a Double Team to confuse the two. When the hits struck two Scyther's, they disappeared confusing the two opponents. With Scyther's monstrous speed it was already on the attack with a fast Wing Attack against the Pinsir. The Stag Beetle Pokémon had no time to defend as Scyther came in like a bladed missile, running the Pokémon down with quick strikes for mega damage.
When Scyther was done, Pinsir was on its back with swirls in its eyes and body twitching and down for the count which left Vikavolt the only challenger left. The Pokémon in question was definitely more scared that its temporary partner just got waxed, but continued to fight nonetheless.
The flying beetle tried to attack this time at a distance, the other Pokémon went to hide in trees now that the sparks were literally flying. As Vikavolt let out a cry and shot out a powerful Thunderbolt. The electric attack nailed Scyther, making the Mantis Pokémon cry out in pain from the effective strike.
At the end of the attack the Scyther only panted out its pain from the aftermath, but otherwise it was still going strong as it let out a growl of battle, still hungry for more combat.
Ruby could only look in awe from this bug. She couldn't help but grip her Yamper's Pokéball in her hands, and ready to jump out to catch this absolute badass.
Because honestly... she couldn't think to call it anything else.
The battle continued as Vikavolt shot another Thunderbolt at the Scyther, hoping to injure it further. However this time the Mantis Pokémon was prepared as it put its two bladed arms across its chest and began to spin rapidly, faster and faster the Scyther went as its form was starting to glow a orange red color because of its amazing Swords Dance attack. The electric attack hit the swirling Bug type, but it seemed to be deflected as the Scyther kept spinning faster and faster towards the Vikavolt.
"Vika!" The Stag Beetle's eyes would have popped out of its sockets from the sole fact that the Scyther just ignored the Thundebolt and was now heading straight for him. The electric bug tried to escape, but Scyther was already upon him, the Mantis stopped spinning and quickly finished this battle by using its bladed hands and faster than the normal eye could see, used its powerful Slash attack.
The Vikavolt didn't say anything as it continued to hover in the air, but after a few seconds the Electric-Bug type fell to the ground in a passed out heap, swirls in its eyes to show that it fainted.
"SCYTHER!" The Bug type flexed its body in a yell of triumph, telling every Bug Pokémon in the vicinity that he was top dog.
Ruby, noticing that her target was now celebrating and more importantly let its guard down, decided to make her move. She quickly moved out of the brush and moved into position, she quickly ran out to face her opponent.
The Scyther heard the commotion, quickly turning around to see the little girl. "Scy?"
"Alright Scyther, get ready become my new Pokémon!" Ruby pointed at the creature with a burning sensation in her silver eyes.
"Scyther!" Her opponent cried out, its hands ready for another battle. It didn't matter to him if this little human wanted a fight he would deliver.
Operation : Catch The Awesome Scyther was a go!
"Alright Zwei help me out!" Ruby threw her Pokéball out towards her opponent. What came out was a yellow, tan colored dog with white stripes and some light green fur covering its inner ear.
"Yamp Yamp!" Zwei the Yamper called out, its fur emitting static electricity, readying itself for a fight.
(Music: Pokémon Anime Wild Pokémon Battle)
"Zwei let's start out with Spark." With the command said the little Electric type ran at the Scyther, its body being engulfed with blue colored electricity. The starting move ended up hitting the Bug type as it made it stumble from the super effective move.
But the Scyther still withstood the strike, and lead with its arms with a Fury Cutter attack, its form quickly overshadowing the Yamper.
"Zwei dodge it!" She commanded. In which the little dog tried to roll out of the way of the attack.
But the bug type was just too quick and landed the attack on top of the Yamper, sending him flying towards his trainer in a tumble.
"Zwei, you ok?" The girl asked, as the electric dog was struggling to get up. She looked back at the Scyther and saw that it was breathing a little heavy, showing it was a bit tired and hasn't shaken off the fights against Pinsir and Vikavolt.
"I've got to be careful, Zwei can't take that many hits. Especially strong ones from a Scyther." She thought. Not that her Yamper was weak, but Scyther's are usually strong fighters and can beat the odds against their type disadvantage.
Plus she was being pretty bold by trying to catch a strong one in the Foliage Forest. Usually more experienced trainers try to catch a Scyther considering how tough they can be here, and even they struggle to catch these creatures.
But Ruby Rose wasn't gonna quit! She was going be one of the best Pokémon trainers this side of Remnant Arceus damnit.
"Yamp-er!" Her Pokémon vocalized its in battle ready condition as it got back to its feet, ready to fight once more.
"Good to see you back up Zwei, now lets give this Scyther a good old Nuzzle!" In which Yamper quickly ran towards its opponent and tried to rub itself on him.
Unfortunately two more Scyther's showed up thanks to the crafty bug using Double Team to confuse Ruby and her judgement. Ruby's Yamper on the other hand continued to charge at the Scyther's.
"Zwei stop!" But the command was too late as the little dog ran into the middle copy, only for it to disappear.
"Yamp?" It looked around confused before the two remaining bodies went to rush at Zwei with a Quick Attack. The two Scyther's blurred as they quickly rushed Zwei's position.
Ruby felt nervous had a 50/50 shot on hitting the right Scyther, if she missed it was probably curtains for her Yamper. Time was running out as the Scyther were quickly upon her little friend.
"Zwei hit the right one on the right with Nuzzle!" She finally decided as the Pokémon charged at each other. She was crossing her fingers that she made the right choice.
Luck was on her side as her little Yamper shocked the bug type, the Scyther crying at in pain from the electric voltage being transferred into its body. Not only that put another nasty surprise was left for the Mantis Pokémon as sparks were all around its body, signifying that it had been paralyzed by the hit.
"Amazing job Zwei!"
"Yamp Yamp!" The dog Pokémon barked out in a cheer.
"Alright, now that it's weakened its time!" Ruby got an empty Pokéball from her hoodie, ready to catch Scyther. "This time I've got you now Scyther!" Winding up her throwing arm.
Now she was ready to catch her prize!
"Poké-"
"They see you small and helpless! They see you as just a child!" The loud noise of her wrist phone rang loud and startled the poor girl half to death. It was the sound of her favorite song by one of her favorite artist Casey Williams, but more importantly.
It was the sound of someone calling her on her Xtransceiver
She huffed in annoyance, she'll have to hang up on this person whoever it is she was in the middle of something important. She looked at the caller ID, and that's when she froze in with blanched face.
It was her father calling her, and she knew why he was. The girl only gulped as she answered the call immediately. "Oh crap." She checked the time to see it was 12:45, and started to get a bit nervous.
The screen showing her father on the screen wearing his karate gi and blond messy hair with blue eyed, but she was more concerned with the frown on his face and the crossed arms to show that he on his "disappointed parent" look which made Ruby feel guilty.
He did not look pleased and she knew why.
"Ruby." Oh Arceus he was even using her name, usually he never really calls her by name unless it was something serious or she was in trouble. "Where are you right now?" Tai asked.
"Um... in the Foliage Forest... trying to catch Pokémon." gulping out in nervousness.
"Do you know what time it is? What day it is for you in particular?"
"Its uh... my birthday?" She said, but definitely wanted to retract that statement as Tai's scowl started getting more angry.
Which got the girl letting out a defeated sigh, knowing exactly what day it was.
"Its test day..." She groaned out
"That's right Ruby it is, and you know what time it is right?"
"Yes dad I know, but just let me take care of this one thing an-"
"Listen, I'm not going to bend the rules just because you are my pride and joy along with your sister. I have a very busy week with the other trainees at the gym. If your not here on time by 1. Your just gonna have to wait until next year for another challenge." Which caused the the girl's eyes to bug out, there's no way she was going to make it back, not unless she sprints back.
"B-But dad that only leaves me with fifteen minutes get back?!" She couldn't afford to be held back another year, she wanted to start her Pokémon journey now.
"Well you better learn Extremespeed my little Budew, because you have..." Tai checked the clock, "Only 14 minutes left to get back here, I'll see you then honey." With that the call ended and that left Ruby in a nervous sweat.
She needed to get home fast! But she felt like she was forgetting something.
"Oh shoot Scyther, I need to catch it!" she looked where the Scyther was to see it was moving away from her and trying to escape back into the brush.
"Hey, your not getting away that easy! Pokéball go!" She tossed the ball as hard as her arm could throw, the trajectory of the ball almost towards Scyther...
The Scyther looked back and quickly used its claws to smack the offending item. The ball went into the bush. Ruby looked on in horror as the chance had to catch Scyther was lost.
Her eyes welt it up in tears as her dream Pokémon just ran away. However the ball was able to hit something as a flash of light happened in the bush.
But it was too later and Ruby was torn, the Scyther was gone.
"Noooooooooo!" She called out in sadness and despair, disturbing the other Bug and Grass types as Butterfree and Venomoth flew away, and some Tangela run away from the loud girl.
With a mopey walk of defeat, she walked towards the brush to get her Pokéball.
However if she had paid attention, she would of noticed the middle of the ball being red for a few seconds before the middle turned white once more.
Ruby looked at her Xtransceiver and saw it was 12:47. With no time to lose she sprinted out of the forest not realizing that she was taking a new friend with her.
(Patch Island, Xiao Long Gym Dojo)
Taiyang was tapping his foot as he waited for his youngest daughter. He checked the time on his device to see that it was 12:50, but currently no sign of Ruby. The blond man was getting a little restless, where was that kid?
His other students at the dojo were standing in a line, wanting to watch and officiate the match of their teacher. Plus Taiyang told the budding trainers that they'll definitely learn some techniques that Fighting Pokémon wouldn't give.
"Master Taiyang, is your daughter going to show up for this fight?" One of his students Shawn and the referee for the match.
"Oh don't worry Shawn, if know my little girl she wouldn't miss this match for the world." Tai reassured his student as he looked towards the dojo screen door. "At least she better not." He thought.
The arena battle was your typical inside Pokémon battlefield. But the entire dojo doubled as a Gym and a house that the Xiao Long family lives in, which was why it was gigantic all around!
There were four plain Pokémon battlefields surrounded by the white walls and blue roofing all around the compound. Those fields were usually for practice for the students and their Fighting Pokémon, along with drills and other fighting equipment like dummies, wooden kata dummies, and other workout equipment for training.
But inside the dojo was were the real gym battles and other important Pokémon fights were held, usually if a gym battle was happening today they would use the main dojo building. The wooden walls and giant arena was the perfect for Ruby's graduation match today.
Which is why all the trainees and other apprentices were gathered here in the building instead of training currently, to watch the match of Ruby and their master.
"It looks like Ruby might not show up in time. You think she backed out?" Jessica, another young student piped up for her opinion.
"Nah. I wouldn't doubt Ruby with this. That goofball would always talk all day about wanting to go on her journey when growing up, she wouldn't miss this." Burk, another Fighting type student said.
"Not a matter of not wanting to Burk, but is she going to show up on time." Ken, one of the more stoic trainees here in the dojo. "You know how our master is about tardiness and being on time." The other students definitely shuddered from that comment. Never let it be said that Master Taiyang was merciful when it comes to punishment, their feet could feel the splinters of the training dummies that they were practicing on when they doing those.
Master Taiyang always had the trainees work with their Fighting Pokémon, whether it be mental or physical work. He says it really builds character when Pokémon and trainer are going through adversity and hardship together to forge stronger bonds. That way the trainers understand the difficult work their Pokémon have to go through to be battle ready and trainers can appreciate their Pokémon better.
Taiyang once again checked his device to see it is almost 1, he could only huff out his disappointment in his youngest daughter, she knew not to be tardy with any of his lessons and yet from time to time she would slip up and sleep in.
But the blond parent couldn't help but to smirk from it all, she was just like her mother. He wished that Summer was here right now to maybe train her daughter in the art of Pokémon a bit more, but being a Pokémon ranger up in the Atlas area of Remnant was a full time job compared to his training drills with his students and fighting trainers for badges. Taiyang wished she called a bit more, but he understood her busy schedule with those ranger assignments.
Luckily his beautiful rose will be here next week to visit, its a pity that she wouldn't see either daughter off on their adventure but Tai just knows that Summer will see them on the way.
But with how much time is left he might assume that his little rosebud might not be on time to take the challenge.
Finally the clock hit 1:04, signifying that time was up.
With a sigh the blond man turned towards his students with a frown. "Alright students, it seems that my daughter isn't here on time for her match. So let's get ready for some drills." Which had some of the students groan, seeing as they wanted to see the fight. "Now don't worry, I'm sure we can..."
"HOLD... YOUR HORSEA!" The sliding door opened to reveal a totally exhausted and out of breath Ruby Rose, her face drenched in sweat and her hoodie was matted from said sweat. "I'm... here now." The sixteen Ruby said, walking over to the other side of the arena.
"We are still having that battle dad and I'm going to win!" Ruby exclaimed, staring at her karate Gi wearing father.
Taiyang just looked at her panting daughter, thinking about it for a moment as he scowled. "I don't think you deserve the chance my little rosebud." Tai said with a shake of his head, his blue piercing eyes looking at his daughter. "You were almost five minutes late and I usually don't make exceptions like this."
"Please reconsider dad," His silver eyed daughter said passionately, as she looked down at the floor in shame. "Sure I was a little late to my match, and sure it was immature to ask you now."
"But trust me... when I say that I am ready to go on my journey. I truly believe I am ready to go out into the world as a trainer. Starting by proving my resolve to you right here and now." She explained.
Her silver eyes looked at her dad with a fists balled up as she pointed her at her father. "Me and Zwei have prepped for years to take you on as a team and I guarantee you we will take you down today!" Which got her father to stare her down for a few seconds before relenting as he let out a smirk of his own.
"Shawn, ready the machine, and you will be the offcial for the match alright?" The blond man looked over towards his student.
"Yes sir." The teen said with pride. "Will each trainer please place all of their Pokéballs in the machine before we begin." The referee told them both as Taiyang and Ruby put all of them in the machine as they scanned them for usage.
Though to Ruby it didn't really make sense to her. The young teenage girl only had Zwei on her currently and doesn't have anymore Pokémon pals with her to use in this fight.
If she caught that darn Scyther it would have been a different story...
However the battle screen calculated and shown that while Taiyang only had one Pokémon from that scan. It certainly surprised the everyone to see that Ruby had two slots filled.
The most surprised however was Ruby herself as her eyes were open in shock. When did she get another Pokémon other than Zwei?
"Shall I make this a 1 on 1 match master?" Shawn asked, but Tai just shook his head.
"No. This isn't an official gym match, so she is free to use more Pokémon if they are available." While that sounded good to Ruby, she was still nervous about her second choice.
"Dad why are you doing this?" Her daughter questioned.
"Well this is your future on the line Ruby, and I am giving you an advantage." Taiyang shrugged his shoulders with a nonchalance "Buuuuut... If you changed your mind."
"No no no, its fine! 2 on 1 is perfectly ok!" She assured, Ruby could use all the help she could get, her dad was not a Gym Leader for nothing.
"Alrighty then Rosebud, Shawn you know the drill." Taiyang said. Ruby started to get serious now, but was still partially nervous.
She had no idea what kind of Pokémon it was. For all she knew it could be a weak little Weedle or something vulnerable to her Dad's fighting type's.
"Very well." Shawn nodded as the screen showed Tai's and Ruby's faces with the number of Pokémon on the screen. "This will be a non official challenge match against Dojo Master Taiyang Xiao Long and the challenger Ruby Rose. The challenger will be able to make substitutions if they so wish and the battle will continue until all Pokémon are unable to continue." The student explained
(Music: Pokémon Fight! Trainer: Johto Version)
"Now. Let the battle begin!" Shawn announced.
"Alright! Machoke let's shake a leg!" Taiyang announced.
"Machoke Ma!" The fighting Pokémon let out a shout of excitement, flexing its muscles showing off to everyone.
"Alright Yamper let's go!" Ruby called out.
"Yamper!" Zwei called out, growling as electricity was sparking all over his body, warming up its body for combat. Seems like Yamper was still raring to go, Ruby was glad too after that fight against the Scyther she thought her little Zwei was gonna be all tuckered out.
"I'll let you have the first move, oh daughter of mine." Her father said. Ruby was thinking of what move she should go with first.
"Zwei use Discharge!" The Pokémon let loose a bunch of blue colored electricity, as the field was covered in the dangerous lightning.
"Machoke, dodge and roll to the right!" Taiyang ordered. As the experienced gym trainer was able to see the electricity arcs and have his partner dodge accordingly.
"Ma!" Taiyang's Pokémon followed the orders to the letter, dodging the light show from Zwei. Ruby only gritted her teeth from the missed attack. "Now get in close for a Low Sweep." The Superpower Pokémon was quick towards the attack, kicking its leg out to strike the little dog.
"Zwei use Spark." Ruby called out. She was hoping her father would try and attack with a physical strike so she could get in close, making the plan super simple.
The Yamper quickly had its body sparking with electricity and jumped toward the incoming Machoke.
The clash between the two Pokémon didn't last long as Machoke's leg sent the Yamper flying back towards its trainer taking the brunt of the damage. But Tai's Machoke definitely felt the jolting pain of the electric attack when hitting the little dog.
"Zwei! Are you alright?" The electric corgi was a little wobbly, but otherwise fine. Barking its confirmation to signal it was ok. " Good let's go with Howl Zwei." Ruby needed to some cushion if she was going to beat her dad's Machoke and the best way to do that is getting more power.
The dog opened its mouth and let out a loud barking growl that distorted the air towards the grey humanoid. The sound was too sharp for the Machoke as it covered its ears from the sound, it even affected some of the students as they were holding their ears in pain as well.
"Good now use Spark again." The Yamper ran towards the Machoke again, this time the electricity coursing through its body as it took a direct hit. Machoke felt the strike that time.
"Use Karate Chop." Taiyang ordered.
"Maaaa... Choke!" The muscled arm of Machoke glowed a bright white, and with practiced motion found its small squatty target. Zwei let out a yelp from the hard strike as it was flung back towards his trainer.
"Quick use Discharge!" Ruby said as the bolts of electricity were now flying towards the Superpower Pokémon. With no time to defend, the muscled fighter took the hit square on and yelling out in pain. After that strike, the fighting types legs were starting to wobble slightly, signifying to the young teen that Machoke was starting to weaken.
"Use Spark again Zwei!" The electric assault continued to hit her Dad's Machoke. The brunette haired girl couldn't afford to let up the assault. Sure Machoke wasn't the best Fighting type that her father owned, but he was definitely a strong one.
And right now was her chance to put this battle away. If Zwei could paralyze Machoke this battle could be over in a couple of strikes.
"Alright Zwei hit Machoke with a nice little Nuzzle." With the command out, the dog was dashing towards the disoriented fighter, jumping at the Machoke for another powerful hit.
"This is it, I got this battle in the bag!" Ruby was giving off a huge grin, she was definitely going to win. However the girl noticed her father wasn't phased, in fact his arms were crossed and he was sporting a confident smile. "Why you smiling dad? Figured out that we are both too good?"
"Not at all all." Taiyang answered. " In fact Ruby. You put up a good fight with shocking Machoke all this time. But its time to end this match Rosebud, this round is mine."
"What?!" She looked at the field and saw Machoke getting into a grappler position. She let out a terrified gasp as the girl knew what was about to happen. She had seen it plenty of times when seeing challengers getting caught by this move along with her sister Yang's Pokémon.
"Zwei stop the attack!" She panicked called out, hoping that her little friend heard her call.
But it was too late as the electric dog was already at mid jump towards Machoke.
"Machoke. Catch him." Taiyang barked out with his blue eyes shining with ferocity.
Before little the Yamper could hit Machoke's face, the little loaf was caught in the fighting types meaty hands. "Yamp?!" Zwei yelped as it was caught.
"No!" Ruby yelled out.
"Seismic Toss now!" Taiyang ordered.
Ruby could only watch in horror as Machoke jumped high in the air with her little Zwei making a fuss. Her dad's Pokémon was now at the apex of the jump as it curled up into a ball and spun in the air.
After two or three rotations Machoke's momentum was pretty fast as he finally tossed Zwei straight into the ground. The impact was hard for the small dog as he hit the arena with a loud bang.
"Zwei!" called out as towards her friend. Hoping to see him be alright, and get back to fight for her.
However, Ruby's hope's were dashed when Machoke landed, the dust settled from the impact, her friend was down with swirls in his eyes.
"Yamper is unable to battle, the winner is Machoke." Shawn announced.
As he said the results, Ruby rushed over toward her best friend and looked at the electric type.
"Zwei are you ok buddy?" Checking on her Yamper.
"Yamp." From what Ruby saw of her friend, it was only a couple bruises and welts from the hits. Nothing too bad from her Dad's Machoke.
"You did a fantastic job buddy, take a nice rest." She used the Pokéball to return her friend, and walked back over towards her spot in the arena.
"Please send out your next Pokémon." Shawn instructed, which definitely made her sweat nervously. Ruby examined her father's Machoke and she could see it was tired from the heavy breathing, and its one eye was closed from the pain of the electric shocks.
Ruby had the chance to win, she had feeling that she can win. But its going to come down to this hidden factor that will probably tank her.
She didn't even know what kind of Pokémon caught, for all she knew it was one of the starting bugs like a wimpy Weedle or cowardly Caterpie.
This play was definitely a risky gamble. One that could decide the match, something that would definitely make her lose if she was unlucky.
But... if she backed down now then she would have to wait another year for a shot of going on a Pokémon journey and she definitely couldn't wait any longer.
She had to at least take the chance. The young trainer gripped the Pokéball tight, staring down the battlefield with her silver eyes.
"Here goes nothing."
"I choose you!" She shouted out as the Pokémon appeared onto the field.
"Budeeew." The tiny grass type called out in a cute voice.
Everyone was silent at the reveal as the other students couldn't help but whisper and chatter about Ruby's choice of Pokémon.
"Is that a... baby Pokémon?"
"Why is she using that thing to fight?"
"Is she taking this serious?
"There's no way a baby Pokémon is going to beat Master Taiyang's powerful Machoke."
Ruby on the other hand was torn between absolute horror and the slightest bit of hope.
This was not a good situation at all considering the cute little Pokémon on the field right now.
Budew is not ideal in this situation, its quite weak because its a baby Pokémon and won't know a ton of moves.
And honestly Ruby doesn't know what level this thing is at all so it makes it even worse if the Budew didn't have any good moves.
Honest to Arceus this little guy could be just knocked out in a single blow.
But there was a silver lining for this desperate struggle.
What was you may ask?
Well... it was actually that Ruby has prior knowledge to this line of Pokémon in particular.
It was all thanks to her mother raising a Budew during her childhood.
Ruby's younger self always saw her mother Summer train the budding Budew. Almost everyday she'd see the little bud. Funny enough the little Budew was a bit shy for its species, a little bit of a recluse but not unfriendly.
But as time passed her mother raised the little grass type slowly getting passed its nervousness for humans. It was strange to see it battle as well, though it wasn't a powerhouse it still battled with all its heart.
Finally after awhile the little baby finally evolved after the love and care her mother gave it. turning into the floral beauty that was Roselia, and then after procuring a glimmering Shiny Stone.
Its final evolution was reached, becoming a beautiful and powerful Roserade.
So Ruby did know a ton about Budew thanks to her mother's experience and battles with it. But she didn't know what kind of attacks this little one has on hand.
Now that is a big problem currently, as there was no time to check what moves it has as the battle would begin soon.
"Budew vs Machoke! Let the battle begin!" Shawn announced.
Ruby gritted her teeth as she did remember one move that could hurt Machoke, she just needed to stack it. "Budew use Growth."
Thankfully to Ruby's credit this little baby wasn't disobeying her order, as the green orb of the move showed, growing in size as the energy went into the Grass type.
"This could be tricky..." Taiyang said aloud. While Machoke was no slouch to battle, unfortunately he didn't have enough time to train his newest member of his team in any other moves except for Fighting type moves. Which wouldn't be such an issue if Budew didn't have Poison properties with its typing.
Usually Fighting types have trouble with Poison type Pokémon as they have a certain resistance to Fighting type kinds of moves, so this might be a battle of attrition.
However the Gym leader had a crazy idea, there is a way that he could power up Machoke, but it was definitely risky considering how much damage he took against Zwei.
But sometimes you have to gamble.
"Use Karate Chop." Tai called out. His Machoke followed the order to the letter, glowing arm about to strike the little Grass Type.
"Quick, dodge it Budew!" Ruby called out.
It would have worked, but the little bud was a little too slow and was struck by the glowing hand.
It was flung back a bit, but otherwise it didn't look harmed in Ruby's opinion.
"You alright buddy?" She called out. The little grass type looked back with a smile on its face and hopped up energetically and crying out its answered. " Alright good, keep using Growth." As the command went out, the little bud continued to gather energy to strengthen itself.
Ruby looked towards her father's Machoke. She was a bit confused to see the big lug as now because it had purple sparks around his body and its face had a purple blush on its face. The girl's eyes widened from this, this was poison.
"How is this possible?" She thought, until she looked down at her adorable Budew and then it clicked. Her little bud must have the ability Poison Point and when her father's Machoke hit the little guy it activated when that Karate Chop landed.
"Yes!" This was a stroke of luck that she needed, Machoke will eventually go down because of the poison. "Alright Budew we got this."
"Dew." Feeling her new trainers confidence.
"I wouldn't be celebrating just yet Rosebud." Her father called out.
"Huh?"
Tai only pointed towards Machoke's form as there was a red rolling energy coming off of the fighting type, to Ruby it felt angry and did not give her a good feeling.
"MAAAAAAA!" The Pokémon roared out, its face in a snarl and its eyes were full of rage, its pupils gone and filled with red energy.
"What happened to Machoke?" Ruby questioned, where was he pulling all of this power?
The young girl had seen this before once when she and her sister were sitting in on a gym challenger. They used an Electrode for the match, and the fast attacker used Thunder Wave, paralyzing her dad's Hariyama in battle and trying for an advantage in speed against the big body.
But for some reason it didn't phase dad in the slightest, in fact her father was grinning like he was just now! Because after that paralysis attack, Hariyama mopped the floor with Electrode and the rest of that trainer's team with its massive strength.
"Well sweetie its quiet simple. Since your Budew poisoned him, his special ability has now activated. Its called Guts and its going to put you and your Budew in a world of hurt since it now double my Machoke's attack strength." Now Ruby was definitely feeling the pressure of her current situation.
"DOUBLE?! If Budew gets hit by Machoke now its over!" She felt like defensive and dodging was definitely the priority here.
"Machoke use Low Kick." The Blond karate man ordered his loyal partner. Ruby quickly noticed that while Machoke still had taken those hits from Zwei and been effected by poison, it was still coming at her Pokémon partner at a rapid speed, the kick was coming way too fast with orange energy heading straight for Budew.
"Budew! Get out of the way quickly!"
But like before, the grass type was too late to move, as it took the painful looking attack head on.
"DEW!" It wailed in pain as the Low Kick sent it back a bit once more with a painful welt and some scratches when it skid off the ground of the arena.
"Budew are you alright? Can you still battle?" Ruby called frantically, honestly she was just worried the little bud was ok.
But luckily the tiny Pokémon was ok, it was a bit slow to get up, however its squinted eyes were narrowed in determination at its opponent. Its posture showing it wanted to continue fighting.
"Bu-dew!" Staring down the tough belt wearing fighter.
"Alright! That's the spirit Budew. You hear that dad? This battle is far from over!" Ruby said, impressing all of the students watching this almost hopeless display of defiance. They were definitely impressed by their master's second daughter, she definitely had the spirit and drive to become an excellent Pokémon trainer.
But no one was more impressed by this display then her father, he couldn't help the smile on his face from this battle. It just felt invigorating to everyone, including himself. Taiyang hadn't had a good battle like this in a good while, and the best part is that it is one with his own flesh and blood.
Sure her eldest was a fantastic trainer, but with Ruby here... he could just feel the drive and passion that she just expelled.
"Then you better bring more to the table Rosebud if you want to win this one." Taiyang pointed out towards his battle partner. "Machoke use Karate Chop."
"Choke!" The white energy surrounding the fighters hand once more as it went to strike the bud Pokémon once again.
"Hurry and dodge around it Budew!" Ruby called out. This time fortune was on the challengers side here as the little sprout was now starting to dodge the hand chopping motions of the reptilian humanoid, the little bud moving left and right quickly and keeping its evasive self away from getting struck by the powerful fighter.
"Keep pressing the Karate Chop attack Machoke, they'll slip up eventually." Machoke continued to press his opponent as flurry of glowing hand chops were upon Budew.
"Dodge them all Budew." Ruby hoped the little bud could continue to dodge these attacks, luckily the assault wasn't going as planned as Budew was dipping, moving, and grooving, actually making a conscious effort to avoid the attacks.
But Ruby knew better, she couldn't just dodge all day, sure the poison is whittling down Machoke's energy but that terrifying Guts boost is still in effect. She needed to do something about that before Budew gets hit one more time.
Cause the teen feels like if her new friend gets hit once more, that will be the end.
"Come on Ruby think! There's got to be something I can do about this, and I need to do something fast."
"I'd be worried if I were you Ruby. You can't spend the rest of the battle dodging Machoke forever, he's going to hit your little bud sooner or later and when that happens that is checkmate." Taiyang called out.
What was she supposed to do? What kind of moves would Budew even have to stop this onslaught at this stage?
Wait a minute...
"Dad said worried... could it..." Ruby was risking it all here, but at this point if she could stop the powered up fighting machine then she'll take it.
She just hoped that the little bud has the attack learned and could use it.
"Budew use Worry Seed!" Ruby desperately yelled out.
"Buuuudeeeewww." The Pokemon quickly hopped away from the attacking Machoke, with the command ushered it unfurled the bud on top of its head. " Bu-dew!" The brown seed was in between the red and blue patches as it was quickly shot and latched onto Machoke's body with a direct hit. The effect of the attack was immediate as green vines surrounded Machoke, the attack had the fighting type pause and freak out slightly from the intrusion and was quickly trying to remove the appendages before it hurt him even more.
The bad news was it was stuck tight on him. But the surprising revelation was, it didn't feel any pain besides the poison in its system already. The vines felt like they were tugging something out of him, but it didn't feel harm from the seed. So Machoke regained its composure and went to continue the battle like nothing happened.
However Tai was no fool, he knew what the attack did and he had to say he was truly impressed with his daughter and the gamble she went with. If Budew didn't know that attack this battle would of been over.
Now with his friend's ability changed, this was a whole different fight, one that could be his loss with this new direction and without Guts powering up Machoke they could be in trouble.
"Mom told me about how this attack works, now that your Machoke's ability has changed. Your Guts power up is gone." Ruby said with now found confidence, as an opportunity has come to attack without the threat of being knocked out. "Now Budew, use Mega Drain." She commanded.
A flash of white light came from the bud of Budew, then after a couple of seconds a green energy came from the bulb of the grass type and quickly went towards grey colored fighting type. Once the energy struck Machoke, its body turned red from the drain.
"MAAAA!" It yelled out in pain as its energy was sucked out of its body, and thanks to the two Growth buffs, the attack was extremely painful as the extra power put the hurt on Machoke. The energy came back to the bruised Budew, and inserted itself into the hurt Pokémon. The glow of the life energy healed most of the scratches and bruises Ruby's Budew gained, the Pokémon looking refreshed and ready for combat once.
However the same could not be said for Machoke.
It was on one knee panting hard and struggling to rise back to its feet.
"Machoke, can you continue?" Taiyang asked the Pokémon.
"Ma... Ma-choke." The amount of damage that Machoke was staggering. It was on its feet once again, but one of its eyes were closed thanks to the pain and he was panting heavily, showing the fatigue from his battles from both Yamper and Budew.
However the Machoke showed life once more...
Only to take one step forward, and have the purple static of poison coursed through its body, rearing its ugly head to finish the work of Ruby's team.
His red eyes becoming dull as the Machoke's body had finally given out. The strength that was there could only go so far as the fighting type fell forward, its heavy body crashing into the floor with a resounding thud.
The dust settle to show that Machoke had X's in his eyes, twitching in unconscious, because of the poison finally doing its work.
Everyone in the room was stunned into silence, the master's students and Ruby gaped in shock, while the gym leader was stared in surprise that his friend had fallen so suddenly.
It took a little bit of time before Shawn finally called the match "M-Machoke is unable to battle, Budew is the winner. This match goes to the challenger Ruby Rose!"
Ruby couldn't believe it...
She won! She actually won with her two Pokémon, one with which she just caught today.
Now she can finally go on her journey at long last!
"Yes we did it!" Ruby fist pumped in the air, celebrating her victory against her father. The girl then ran over to her savior of her dream, picking up the little bud in her arms in happiness.
"We did it Budew, and its all thanks to you!" She yelled out, not bothering to control her loud voice. The girl hugged her new friend into her chest, giving her love and affection that she definitely deserved. The battle was tough, it was touch and go at the moment. Especially when she lost Zwei in the battle to that nasty Seismic Toss attack.
With plenty of luck and a somewhat strategic battle plan, she was able to triumph against the tough Machoke.
"Budew! Budew!" It said its name in happiness and joy, cuddling up to its new trainer like a little Teddiursa bear.
"That was an excellent battle Ruby." Her dad came over towards, wrapping his arms around her in a loving hug. "If your mother saw that battle, she would definitely be proud of you, cheering her heart out." The girl looked up and went into the loving embrace.
"Thanks dad." While the match was hairy at times, there would have been no doubt that her mother would of been proud of that battle.
The moment between father and daughter was interrupted when cheers from her dad's students were heard.
"That was an amazing battle Ruby."
"You and that Budew were spectacular!"
"What else would you expect from the daughter of our master?"
The girl only blushed from the congratulations and praise, she didn't really like being completely in the spotlight. But she couldn't help the proud smile on her face.
Maybe it was ok to feel proud every once in a while.
But she was now the newest trainer in the making. Heading out on her maiden voyage journey soon.
Look out Remnant here come Ruby Rose!
"As promised." Taiyang spoke, silencing everyone when he talked. "You have my permission to go on your Pokémon journey now." He said. "Though it would be a little bit lonely if you didn't have anyone go with you." The blond man smiled, and his daughter understanding the implication perfectly
That meant Yang was coming with her on her journey. Which wasn't bad, in fact she couldn't wait to head off with her sister.
"That reminds me, where is Yang, dad? She said messaged she be back by now from the mainland." Ruby remembered that her sister texted her earlier in the morning that she was gonna head out and pick some supplies for their journey, because apparently 'Her little sis would wipe the floor with their goofball of a father in a Pokémon match'.
Thank Arceus she did win though, otherwise Yang would have gone to town for nothing.
Regardless, her sister said she would be back after the match would be done, so where was she?
"Oh you know her, always wanting to drive Bumblebee with Aries." Tai said with a smile, he knew that Growlithe was always joined at the hip to his little sunflower when they younger, as time when on the same could be said with Yang's motorcycle Bumblebee.
"Do you know when they will get back to Patch. I'd really like to start my journey soon and start collecting badges." The young silver eyed teen replied, hopeful for at least an update.
"Hmm... Last time I checked Yang said she probably wouldn't be able to make it to the Skarmory Skyport until nightfall. So you might have to wait until tomorrow sweetie." Taiyang said to his youngest.
"Awww." Ruby deflated, until tomorrow?! She'll probably be late to make the Ozmantis League if she takes too long. But her father only rubbed her head and chuckled.
"I wouldn't sweat it Rosebud, you'll have plenty of time to collect the other badges." Her father explained. "Besides, you know you'll have to come back here to earn a badge from me and I'll expect a full challenge from you and your sister, got it?" Taiyang said.
"You got it dad!" Ruby replied.
"Though I must say, you should cut your sister a little slack." Ruby tilted her head cutely from that comment. "She's also a trainer looking to improve. So in spite of that, she went near Ansel Town to find something important for one of her Pokémon. "
"Did she say what is was?" Ruby asked.
"Not sure myself, my little Sunflora said it was important to some kind of bracelet she recently obtained." Tai had a feeling of what his older daughter got, and he had to say it was going to be a trial using that with the Pokémon she chose.
All in all he couldn't wait to see the results.
The answer to her question only caused Ruby to shrug her shoulders and just forget about it. Sometimes her sister Yang can be confusing as all get out.
Well whatever it was getting she better get back here quickly with all of their supplies soon.
They both had journey to start soon and she couldn't wait any longer.
(Saunus Continent, Ansel Town)
The sound of the TV screen could be heard in the living room as a channel playing a Pokémon battle tournament that happened weeks ago was on and was about to be at its conclusion.
On screen, the one in the lead was using a Dragonair, the beautiful blue serpentine dragon Pokémon fired out a powerful Dragon Rage fireball, devastating the opponents Pokémon, which was a large Arbok. After the dust settled and smoke cleared out, the purple cobra was out cold on the ground, swirls in its eyes to signify its defeat and was unable to fight any longer.
"Arbok is unable to battle, Dragonair is the winner of the battle." The judge announced. "This match goes to Pyrrha Nikos of Mistral City!" The T.V's was blaring in noise from the cheers and yelling from the audience, screaming the name 'Pyrrha' in adoration. The person that they were referring to was beautiful woman with a red cape draping down her back, showing her off her majestic appearance and the sign of flair that certain trainers had.
While the match had concluded, the form of Jaune Arc, now at age 17 was watching this in the living room after a long day at work. Right now he was studying the current generation of Pokémon trainers that were coming up in the world, ones that would become a challenge on the his road of becoming a trainer, and this one that he had been watching for weeks: Pyrrha Nikos.
All Jaune know about her is that she's definitely going to be the one to beat in the Ozmantis League.
"And there you have it folks, Pyrrha Nikos has taken the Ultra Ball Tournament Cup of Mistral for three consecutive years as the champion, give it up for the Invincible Pokémon Girl of Mistral City!" The blond teen was watching the screen in slight interest, but was also shoving equipment in his bag. Potions, Repels, Antidotes, and other needed medicines were neatly placed into the bag for security and safe keeping.
The blond then threw in colored cans that were full of Pokémon food for his good old friend. He needed to sort them correctly from his regular human food.
Certainly doesn't want to eat Pokéchow with metal minerals in it, that would definitely make him feel sick. Also his buddy Aron would not appreciate him just gobbling up his food and then later spitting it out later.
"Lisa Lavender here from Valean city and I am here with the three time champion of the Mistral Ultra Ball Cup, Pyrrha Nikos." Jaune heard the reporter say, but now he decided to tune out the television as it felt like white noise to his ears.
It wasn't important at the moment, right now he was getting ready.
Today was the day he was going to prove himself ready for his Pokémon journey. No more stalling, no more setbacks, and no more excuses.
He was going to prove to his father that he had what it takes.
With his best friend Aron by his side, he knew that they were destined for greatness.
AND SCENE!
So like I said before, it was either going to be this chapter or the next that we will see Jaune on the road for his journey.
Obviously you see that was not the case. In short I kind of wanted this to happen, can't give Jaune all of the spotlight for this.
So now we have our little rose as a budding new trainer in the world, one with two Pokémon already. Zwei a sparky little Yamper and her new addition, a little budding Budew that can be one tough cookie.
I know it may seem that Ruby's catch of the little bud was a cop out, but I kind of wanted to start her out with the little guy first. Its gonna be a long way until she gets that beautiful Roserade, gotta bring up those friendship points first and take care of it.
Plus, I wanna save Scyther for later. Don't worry she'll get that bug sooner or later just not today.
Also I didn't want her just running her dad through with a Scyther to start out with. In my opinion Scyther is one of the more strong bug types to start with, so... yeah.
But with that said, this chapter was mostly about Ruby and how she's gonna get started with her sister Yang to compete in the Ozmantis League.
Might have to change the name for the future, but I'm sticking with it for now.
Also if I didn't give a bigger explanation of Pyrrha's attire don't worry. I will put it at the end of this chapter here to give you an idea, thanks to Vantis Ominpotent for the description. To be honest I am not the best when talking about clothes and attire.
So thank you for the description!
Pyrrha attire- a thick bronze metallic helmet with three red horn-like protrusions on the top and thin bronze fang-like points near the lower jawline, wearing a light red long sleeved undershirt, a bronze metallic brigandine that went down to her hips via a bronze metallic 'skirt', a wide red cloth wrapped around her waist that went from her upper chest to her waist, thick rectangular bronze metallic pauldrons with a light brown edge around the ends, a red cloth tied around her neck that trailed downwards into a large crescent moon shaped cape, thin elbow length bronze metallic gauntlets with thin bronze wires attached from her elbows to the large opening on her palms, a wide bronze sash tied around her waist, bronze knee length metallic greaves, light red pants, white socks and bronze high heeled sneakers,
Didn't want to put all of that in the part of the story, so this will be her battle attire when she is in tournaments.
Well, what did you think? Was this chapter good? Were the fights acceptable? I tried to keep it like in the anime style with other commands instead of making it completely like the games all the time.
Honestly I'm trying to do a mixture of the games and the anime. I'll try not to do absolute anime asspulls, but no promises.
So that's why Ruby fought her father with two Pokemon and plus it wasn't a true Gym Battle so there will be different rules.
Anyways if you have any questions or comments leave them in the comment section and I will try to tell you to the best of my ability of what I'm going for in this story, if you have any more questions regarding the story you can PM me and I will try to get to it as soon as I am available.
Like, comment, or review if you want, it only helps me try and make the story better.
With that, this is Irongiant9000 signing off have a good day everyone and I'll see you in the next chapter.
Next chapter: Chapter 4: The Iron Willed Trainer: Jaune Arc
