Chapter 3: First Days at U.A.

The first day of the school year had arrived and Izumi proudly stood at the steps of U.A..

"This is it. I still can't believe it!"

"Believe it, Izumi, you're here. Now let's go. Being late on the first day isn't the best way to start the year."

"Right!"

Izumi walked in and found the class she was assigned to, Class 1-A. But she was shocked when she saw the size of the door to the classroom.

"What's with the door?"

"Maybe it's for people with size-altering quirks like Mount Lady."

Stella and Izumi said. Izumi opened the door and walked into an interesting sight.

"Get your feet off the desk immediately! It's only the first day of school and you're already disrespecting it by scuffing up school property you creep!"

"Huh? What's the hell wrong with you? Were you born with a stick up your ass or did your last school put it there?"

Tenya Iida and Katsuki Bakugo were arguing while the rest of the class watched.

"What!? Why of all the."

Iida stopped himself and took a deep breath.

"It seems we may have gotten off on the wrong foot, let's start over. I'm Tenya Iida from Somei Academy."

Iida stretched out his arm for a handshake, but Bakugo just sneered at this.

"Somei huh? So you think you're better than me? I'm going to enjoy ripping you a new one."

"You would threaten me!? Your classmate? Are you sure you're in the right school?"

Bakugo turned his head away from Iida and saw Izumi.

"Hi."

Izumi said as she waved at them both.

"Good morning Midoriya. It's good to see you made it in."

Iida said while doing robot chops. Bakugo looked between the two in confusion.

"Huh? You know this nerd Izu?"

Bakugo asked.

"That was uncalled for! Midoriya, do you know this delinquent?"

"What was that?"

Iida and Bakugo looked like they were about to start fighting, but Midoriya managed to calm them down.

"Now, now boys, let's not start a fight on the first day of school. As for your question Kacchan, I met Iida during the practical part of the entrance exam. He may be a bit of a stickler for the rules, but he's a kind person. And Iida, Kacchan is my childhood friend. I've known him since we were in kindergarten. He may be blunt to the point of being rude, but he's a good guy. Now how about you two shake hands and put this incident behind us, hmm?"

Izumi said with a smile. While the two didn't want to do that, Izumi's aura made it hard to say no. Reluctantly, they shook hands. Afterward, Iida went back to his desk and Izumi sat in hers. All the while not noticing a certain red and white-haired teen watching her.

"It's her!"

He said to himself.

Flashback

Shoto Todoroki was on his laptop going through the latest hero news. He had just finished his training for the day and was checking the web for any important information that may have come up. He was scrolling through news articles when one title caught his eye. "Fledgling Ice Princess Saves Boy From Sludge Villain" the title read.

"It couldn't be her, could it?"

Todoroki thought. He clicked on the link and a group of pictures showed him the answer.

"It is her!"

The pictures were of Izumi Midoriya when she fought the sludge villain in her ice skater costume. One when she was skating towards the villain, one when she rescued Bakugo, and finally one when she struck a pose after freezing the villain. Todoroki read the article and found out that Izumi was planning to go to U.A. just like him.

"I might finally be able to meet her."

Todoroki said to himself.

Present

Todoroki was glad he would finally meet the girl he had seen all those years ago. But he didn't want to rush it. First impressions were important after all. He wanted to make sure he knew what to say to her. Soon another student entered and smiled upon seeing Izumi.

"Midoriya! Good to see you!"

"Hey, Uraraka! I'm glad you made it as well."

Uraraka walked up to Izumi and hugged her.

"So what do you think our classes will be like? Who do you think is our teacher? Oh, I'm so excited!"

Uraraka said while jumping up and down. Izumi was glad that her new friend was here and was excited as well. That's when she noticed something at the door.

"What's that?"

Izumi asked getting everyone to look at the door to see a yellow sleeping bag there.

"That's weird. Where did that come from?"

Uraraka asked.

"If you're here to make friends, then you should leave."

A voice said from within the sleeping bag. Everyone was shocked by this when the zipper at the top came down and revealed a disheveled man with tired eyes. Everyone was waiting for him to introduce himself, but he just took a juice box out and drank it in one sip instead. Feeling that they weren't going to get an introduction, Izumi decided to ask the man himself.

"Excuse me, but who are you?"

"Hmm? Oh, I'm Shota Aizawa, you're homeroom teacher for the year."

"WHAT!?"

All the students said in shock.

"Enough, it took you about eight seconds to settle down. That's not going to cut it. Real heroes know that time is valuable. Here, put these on and meet me at the training fields in ten minutes."

Aizawa said as he took out gym uniforms. Ten minutes later, everyone was outside while Aizawa set up some equipment for them.

"Um, excuse me sir, but what about orientation? We're going to miss it."

Uraraka said.

"Listen, while at this school I'm allowed to teach however I see fit, and I won't waste time with pointless ceremonies like that. So instead, we're going to have a quirk evaluation test. Bakugo, you got the highest villain score. What was your farthest pitch?"

Aizawa asked as he threw a baseball that Bakugo caught.

"Around twenty-seven meters."

"Do it again, but use your quirk this time. The school district still conducts physical exams without allowing the usage of quirks believing everyone is born equal. That's illogical and should be changed. The unfortunate truth is that some of us are born with more advantages than others. That's what these tests are for. So I know what I'm working with. Bakugo, do whatever you want to throw the ball, just stay in the circle."

Bakugo nodded and went up to the throwing circle.

"I'll put some fire into this and blow them all away. Just watch me Izu."

He pulled back his arm and launched the ball with an explosion.

"DIE!"

"Die?"

Everyone, except Izumi, thought. Aizawa flipped the phone to show that Bakugo had reached a distance of seven hundred and point two meters. Everyone was shocked by his score.

"Holy crap, that's amazing!"

"We get to use our quirks, this is going to be fun!"

Aizawa glared at the class after hearing this.

"Fun? Do you think this is a game? We're training the next generation of heroes here. You know what, if you think this is 'fun' we'll make it a game then. The person who ranks dead last will be deemed with no potential and will be expelled."

The class let out a collective gasp a this.

"You can't do that! It's not fair to expel someone on the first day."

Uraraka complained.

"Accidents, natural disasters, muggings, and murders. Do you think these events are 'fair'? The world is full of unfairness, it's a hero's job to fight that unfairness. If you thought this was going to be your average high school life where you goof off with your friends at some fast food joint, then pack up and leave! We will push you, break you, and make surpass your limits and then some. We have three years to mold you into pro heroes. These three years will be the most intense years of your life. If you can't handle it, then there's the door."

Aizawa watched to see if anyone took his offer to leave. But everyone stayed where they were.

"Good, now let's continue."

Bakugo rejoined the group and everyone went to the next event. It was the fifty-meter dash. Izumi took her place next to Bakugo. She had changed into her ninja outfit since it was the fastest out of all her outfits. The cowgirl could be faster when riding Stella, but this was a test for Izumi, not Stella. The test robot shot the starter gun and both students took off. Bakugo used his explosions to complete the test in 4.13 seconds with Midoriya coming in at 4.50.

"Not bad Kacchan. You're as strong as ever."

"Yeah, you too Izu."

The next event was the standing long jump. Izumi considered using her angel costume to fly over the sandbox but thought that would be cheating. So she used her Mighty form instead. She charged fifteen percent of One for All into her legs and, combined with the Mighty form's increased strength, was easily able to clear the sandbox.

The next event was the grip strength test. Once again, the Mighty form was best suited for this. She decided not to use One for All this time and was surprised that she got the top score in this event.

"Wow, I guess the Mighty form is stronger than I thought."

Izumi thought. The next event was the side-to-side jumps. Izumi stayed in her normal form for this one. Next was the ball throw. Since Bakugo already did it, he just stood by and watched as everyone else went.

"Midoriya, you're up."

Aizawa tossed the ball to Izumi.

"The same rules apply. Do whatever you need to do, just stay within the circle."

Izumi nodded and took her place. She changed into her Mighty form and charged up One for All. Then, to everyone's surprise, she jumped high into the air and pulled her arm back to charge the power. She then threw the ball with tremendous force. Once she landed, Aizawa flipped the phone to show she reached a distance of 1502.5 meters.

"Wow! That was amazing!"

"Yes. An impressive showing indeed."

Uraraka and Iida said. As Izumi passed Aizawa, he stopped her.

"Midoriya, why did you jump?"

"Oh, well, you said I can do whatever I needed to do to throw the ball. So I jumped up high to give my throw more distance before it hit the ground. And I thought it was fine since I was still inside the circle."

Aizawa nodded, impressed by her clever thinking.

"Good job. A lot of heroes end up being too dependent on their quirk and forget to think outside the box when fighting villains. I was worried that you would fall into that category since your quirk is so strong, but you proved me wrong. Keep up the good work."

"Yes sir!"

Izumi went back to join the others who were complimenting her.

"That was a good showing Izu."

Bakugo said.

"Thanks Kacchan."

"I should've realized that there was more to these tests than just testing how strong our quirks are. He's seeing how we use them as well. I should've shot myself into the air before throwing the ball damn it."

"It's fine Kacchan, it is just the first day after all. We'll all get better in time, both in body and mind. And if you need help with ideas, I'd be more than willing to help out."

Izumi said with a beaming smile.

"Y-Yeah, thanks Izu."

Bakugo said as he turned his head to hide the blush he had. Meanwhile, Todoroki watched the interaction between the two. He overheard Izumi earlier and knew they were friends, but was curious if they were something more. It was his turn next and he walked up to the throwing platform. Taking inspiration from Izumi, he created an ice pillar and made it go as high as he could. The ball was frozen at the very top, right at Todoroki's feet. He then placed his hand on the pillar and created another one under the ball that launched it far into the horizon.

"Good, it seems the others are learning from Midoriya's throw. Maybe this class has potential after all."

Aizawa said to himself before looking back at Todoroki.

"But why is he only using half his power?"

Aizawa narrowed his eyes pondering over this in his head. Uraraka was up next and just did what looked like a normal throw. However, when Aizawa revealed her score of infinity, everyone was shocked.

"Dude, I didn't think anyone would beat Midoriya's score."

A teen with electric yellow hair said. Everyone agreed with him when Uraraka joined the group.

"Good job Uraraka. But how did you do that?"

Iida asked.

"Oh, it was my quirk. Anything I touch becomes weightless."

"I see. That would explain how you got such a score with such a simple throw."

"True, you don't need to complicate everything. Sometimes simple solutions are the best."

Izumi said. Uraraka and Iida nodded in agreement with her. The next events were simple ones such as push-ups, sit-ups, and the seated toe-touch. Once all the tests were over, everyone gathered in front of Aizawa.

"All right, I'm just going to show all your scores at once. It'd be a waste of time to go over them one by one. I ranked you all from best to worst. Though you should have an idea of your standing already."

Aizawa pushed a button on a remote he had. A holographic screen appeared and showed the students their rankings. Izumi was pleased to see she had gotten first. Bakugo looked and was frustrated he got third coming behind a girl named Yaoyorozu. He didn't mind losing to Izumi, she was one of the few he respected, but getting behind someone else infuriated him. In the back of the group was a small purple boy named Mineta, who was shaking with fear. Why? Because he was in last place.

"And as for what I said earlier, I lied. No one's going home."

The class stood dumbfounded at this.

"WHAT!?"

They all screamed.

"It was a logical deception. To make sure you gave it your all."

Aizawa said with a smile.

"I thought it was obvious, I guess I should've said something."

Yaoyorozu said.

"Yeah, you should have."

The class thought.

"Enough. Make sure to pick up the class syllabus when you get back to the classroom. Class dismissed."

Everyone left to change and get ready for the rest of the day. Later, after school was over, Izumi was walking to the train station when Uraraka caught up.

"Hey Midoriya!"

"Oh, hey Uraraka. What's up?"

"Are you heading to the train station?"

"Yeah."

"Then we should walk together."

"Okay."

"Hello there."

Iida said as he approached the two girls.

"Hey, Iida. Are you heading to the train station too?"

Uraraka asked.

"Yes."

"Then you should join us."

"Thank you."

"Man, that was an intense first day."

"I know. But still, it was exciting. U.A. is shaping up to be everything I expected it to be."

Izumi said with a smile.

"Agreed. However, I do worry about our trust in our teacher if he continues these actions. I understand he used deception to bring out our full potential, but it makes me wary about trusting his words from now on."

Iida said with concern.

"He's probably using this to prepare us for our future as heroes. When we become pros, we can't just take everything at face value. Sometimes we need to look for truth behind someone's words. Like if we're investigating a group of criminals who robbed a bank and are trying to hide the money. Or if we're trying to catch drug dealers. I'm sure Aizawa means well with his actions."

Izumi explained.

"I see. As to be expected of a teacher from U.A.! Good observations Midoriya."

Izumi just chuckled as she, Iida, and Uraraka continued toward the train station.

The next day

Everyone was sitting in class, excited for today's lesson.

"So who do you think is going to teach us today?"

Mina Ashido, a girl with pink skin and an acid quirk, asked.

"Probably a famous hero."

Tsuyu Asui, a girl whose quirk gives her the abilities of a frog, answered. Everyone was wondering who the teacher was. That's when.

"I AM HERE."

Everyone turned to the doors as All Might entered while striking a heroic pose.

"Coming through the door like a hero!"

"Whoa, it's All Might! He really is a teacher here. Man, this year is going to rock!"

Ejiro Kirishima, a red-haired teen whose quirk allowed him to harden his skin, said in excitement.

"And look, he's wearing his silver age costume."

Asui pointed out.

"It's so retro. I'm getting goosebumps."

Mashirao Ojiro, a teen who had a tail quirk, said. All Might strutted to the desk and turned to address the class.

"Welcome to what might be the most important class you have. Think of it as heroing 101! Here, you will learn what it means to face evil and fight for justice! Now let's begin. This lesson... will hold no punches!"

All Might explained as he pulled out a cue card that said 'BATTLE!'.

"Combat training!"

"Already?"

Bakugo and Izumi said.

"But one of the keys of being a hero is looking good!"

All Might pointed to the wall and compartments with suitcases slid out. They had numbers that corresponded to the seating order of the students.

"These costumes were designed by our support team here at U.A.. They were made based on your quirk registration forms and the requests you wrote down before school started. So get suited up, and meet me at training field beta."

"Yes sir!"

Everyone left to change into their hero costumes. All Might was waiting for them at training field beta, which was a mock city designed to simulate fights in urban areas, to arrive when he heard footsteps coming from the school entrance.

"You know, they say the clothes make the pros. And behold! You are the proof!"

All the students came out in their hero costumes. (Not going over them because you should know what they look like by now.)

"Man, you all look so cool! So, are you ready to begin? You bunch of newbies."

All Might went into the mock city with the students following. As they were walking, Uraraka approached Izumi.

"Hey, Midoriya, is that really your costume?"

Izumi's outfit was a simple one. A green vest with black pants and red boots. She also wore white gloves with ribbons wrapped around the cuffs and had a mask with goggles hanging from her neck.

"Yeah, since my quirk allows me to change costumes already, I decided to go with a simple base outfit."

"That makes sense. But what are the ribbons on the glove for?"

"They're for Stella."

Stella then came out and waved at Uraraka.

"She's part of my quirk, and when I'm not wearing a costume I can control ribbons to wrap around someone or something."

"I see, nice thinking Midoriya."

Izumi just nodded at Uraraka's compliment.

"I like your outfit by the way."

"Thanks, but it's not exactly what I had in mind. I guess I should've been more exact in my descriptions. I didn't ask for a skin-tight suit."

Uraraka said as she pulled at her outfit.

"I see."

"What's the mask for by the way?"

"Oh, it has air filters in case I have to deal with someone using sleeping or poison gas. The good thing is that it can transform with my costumes as well."

"That's so cool!"

Soon everyone made it to the building where the training would take place.

"Okay, so listen up! In today's exercise, we will be conducting a battle simulation."

"Will we be fighting robots again sir?"

Iida asked.

"Not this time, young Iida. Today, your opponents will be each other! You will be grouped into teams of two and placed into a combat simulation."

"Isn't this a bit advanced sir?"

Asui asked.

"The best learning is done on the battlefield. Now does anyone have any questions?"

Soon All Might was bombarded with questions from the students.

"All right, calm down now! Okay, so here's the low down. A group of villains have stolen a nuke and are threatening to blow it up. The heroes are to go in and neutralize either the villains or the weapon. The villains win if they run out the timer or capture the heroes."

"How do we capture the opposing team, sir?"

"With this, young Iida!"

All Might pulled out a roll of white tape.

"If you wrap your opponent with this capture tape, then they are considered out of the battle."

"I see. And how will you pair us up?"

"Through lots!"

All Might then pulled out a box with everyone's names in it.

"Is that the best way to pair us up?"

"It makes perfect sense. Think about it, Iida. In the field, you wouldn't have the luxury of choosing your partner in an emergency. You would have to team up with whichever hero is nearby."

Izumi explained.

"I see, life is a series of random events. Pardon my rudeness, sir!"

"No sweat, now let's draw!"

All the students drew their lots and found their partners. Izumi looked at the name of her partner.

"Minoru Mineta, hmm, who is that?"

"Right here."

Izumi looked to see the short, grape-themed, boy.

"Oh, hello there. I'm Izumi Midoriya, let's do our best."

"Right."

Mineta said with a creepy smile. Izumi is a little weirded out by it, but she brushes it off to focus on the training.

"Okay, the first team to fight, will be these guys!"

All Might pulled out two balls that had the teams' designation on them. The first teams to fight would be the team of Kyoka Jiro and Denki Kaminari. Versus the team of Izumi Midoriya and Minoru Mineta.

"Okay, Midoriya and Mineta will be the villains while Jiro and Kaminari will be the heroes. The villains will have ten minutes to prepare before the heroes are sent in. Afterward, the heroes will have fifteen minutes to capture the villains or the weapon. Understand?"

The students nodded.

"Good. Now you are allowed to use your quirks, but if things get out of hand, I will stop the battle. Now, villain team enter!"

Izumi and Mineta went inside the building and found the bomb on the fourth floor.

"Okay, we found the bomb. Now what to do? Hmm, Mineta, do you have any ideas?"

Izumi asked, but Mineta was too busy staring at Izumi's rear.

"Mineta? Mineta!"

"Huh! What, what!?"

"I was asking if you had any ideas."

"Oh, um, no."

Izumi sighed, before collecting herself.

"Okay, so what's your quirk?"

"It's sticky balls. The balls on my head can stick to anything, but I just bounce off of them."

Mineta demonstrated by taking one of the balls off his head and sticking it to the wall. Izumi thought about this and came up with an idea.

"Okay, I have an idea. Stella!"

"Right!"

Stella came out and Izumi transformed into her ninja outfit. Mineta was silently cursing that it was more of a magical change and he didn't get to see any of Izumi's assets.

"Come on Mineta. We need to set some traps."

Izumi grabbed Mineta and they set traps at the entrances to the stairs on the third and fourth floor, and at some windows. Izumi combined some of Mineta's balls with explosive tags she made. These explosions were non-lethal and just strong enough to incapacitate someone. After setting up the traps, she and Mineta returned to the bomb and placed one more trap at the door. Now they wait.

"Hero team, enter!"

All Might announced, signifying the start of the exercise. Kaminari and Jiro entered the building with Jiro using her quirk, earphone jack, to listen for Izumi and Mineta. Her quirk was earphone jacks that grew from her ears. When she stuck them into the walls of a building, she was able to hear even the faintest sounds, making her an excellent scout. She could also use them to stab into someone and send her heartbeat vibrations into them giving her some combat capabilities.

"They're on the fourth floor. More than likely guarding the bomb."

Jiro said.

"Do you hear anything else?"

Kaminari asked.

"No, but let's be careful while going up. They could have set some traps."

"Right."

The two began to walk up the stairs. They made it to the ones leading to the third floor and thought they were in the clear, until.

*Snap!*

"What was that?"

Kaminari had stepped through a trip wire Izumi made and the explosive tags with Mineta's balls attached to them fell on the heroes. The tags went off, pushing Kaminari and Jiro back while sending Mineta's balls flying at them. The two were now stuck to the wall.

"What the hell are these!?"

Jiro asked as she tried to pull herself free.

"I think they are Mineta's balls."

"What!?"

"His quirk, the balls on top of his head."

Kaminari explained.

"I can't free myself. I'm stuck!"

"Hang on, maybe I can do something."

Kaminari used his quirk to surround himself with electricity. The electric current fried the balls that were sticking to him, freeing himself.

"A little help here."

Jiro asked. Kaminari had to be very careful about freeing Jiro. Since he couldn't control where his electricity went, he only activated it on his hand and freed Jiro one ball at a time. Now, while this did free Jiro, it also wasted the time they had. And now they had to hurry up or they would lose.

"Couldn't you have done that faster?"

Jiro asked in annoyance.

"Hey, did you want me to shock you too? I can't control where I send the electricity so I was only able to do one ball at a time."

Kaminari explained as they ran up the stairs. Jiro stopped Kaminari before they started running up the stairs to the fourth floor. She pointed out the trip wire that would set off the trap Izumi had set.

"Heh, leave it to me."

Kaminari pushed Jiro back and walked up to the trip wire to set it off. But he activated his quirk while doing so surrounding him with electricity. The electric current set off the tags before they got close to Kaminari and fried Mineta's balls as well. Back in the bomb room, Izumi stood ready for the heroes in case they made it past her traps, but Mineta was doing something else. As soon as he felt the rumbling from Izumi's bombs, he set off his plan.

"Ah! I'm so scared!"

Mineta screamed as he jumped towards Izumi.

"EEK!"

Izumi let out a shriek as Mineta grabbed onto her butt. Izumi's face was bright red, but she could hear the footsteps of Kaminari and Jiro getting closer. She decided to deal with Mineta later and brought her hands together. She vanished and left behind a log that Mineta was holding onto. The door was busted open by Jiro's support gear. It was speakers built into her boots so she could send out shockwave attacks. This attack managed to destroy Izumi's trap before they came in.

"Alright! Now it's time to, huh?"

Kaminari and Jiro were confused by what they were seeing.

"What the heck? What are you doing Mineta?"

Jiro asked.

"I was so scared, that I just grabbed Izumi's butt by instinct. It's harder than I thought though."

Mineta said as he rubbed his cheek against the log. Jiro couldn't help but start snickering, the same could be said by most of the other students who were watching.

"Oh man, that was a good one Midoriya."

Sero, a boy who shoots tape from his arms, said while laughing.

"That creep deserves it after what he tried to pull."

Mina said with Toru, a girl whose quirk made her invisible, nodding in agreement.

Back with the teams.

"Dude, that's not Midoriya."

Kaminari said while trying to hold back his laughter.

"What do you mean? It's obviously, huh? What!? What the heck!?"

Mineta looked to see he was holding onto a log with Jiro and Kaminari laughing at him.

"Man, you got wood."

Kaminari joked, causing him and Jiro to burst out laughing.

"And you're distracted."

"Huh?"

Before Kaminari or Jiro could react, a rope wrapped around them and pulled them down the hall.

"YEE-HAW!"

Izumi was behind them in her cowgirl outfit and threw them into a wall. While they were dazed, she hog-tied them both and wrapped the capture tape around their heads for good measure.

"The villain team wins!"

All Might announced.

"Sorry about that partner. Hope I wasn't too rough on ya."

Izumi said as she freed them. But both Kaminari and Jiro shook their heads.

"Nah, I'm good. Nice outfit by the way."

"Thanks Kaminari."

"I should've been more alert when you weren't anywhere to be seen. I was just too distracted by what you did to Mineta. Good one Midoriya."

"Thank you, Jiro."

"We make a good team. How about a celebratory hug?"

Mineta asked, trying to brush past what had happened. But Izumi wasn't having any of it.

"Don't make me hog-tie you, you little pervert."

Izumi said with an emotionless glare. Mineta got the message and backed off. The four went back to the observation room where everyone was congratulating Izumi. Because of this, no one noticed the death glares Bakugo and Todoroki were giving Mineta.

"All right, now the MVP of the competition is young Midoriya!"

Izumi rubbed her head while everyone clapped for her.

"Makes sense. She pretty much did all the work."

Ojiro said.

"Hey, I helped out too!"

Mineta yelled trying to defend himself.

"Maybe at the beginning, but after that all you did was stand there and try to touch Midoriya."

Asui explained with everyone agreeing.

"I was scared by the explosions."

"Then why were you rubbing your cheek against what you thought was Midoriya's butt? Plus the explosions weren't that big. You were just being a creep."

Sero said. Mineta looked around for support, but everyone was giving in disappointing stares. Except for Bakugo and Todoroki, theirs were more aligned to killing intent. Seeing that he was not winning, Mineta resigned himself to his fate and just looked down in shame.

"Okay, now that that's dealt with, onto the next match!"

All Might said getting everyone back into the spirit of the exercise.

And that's the end of the chapter. Thank you all so much for reading, and feel free to leave a review and have a nice day.
