The next morning Ash and the rest of the group thank Prof. Sycamore for breakfast.
"It's not a problem given how tired and beat up everyone was yesterday with what happened with Garchomp and Team Rocket as a whole, it's one of the things that I at least want to do for you rescuing Garchomp."
"Well we weren't going to let those idiots get away with putting Garchomp in that collar, causing destruction throughout part of Lumiose City and trying to take ours and possibly all of Lumiose City's Pokemon plus we're glad nobody else got hurt in the process." Drake said.
"Well, all in a day's work especially since it was the first day we were in Kalos." Andrew chimed in.
"Well, not just us our Pokemon and the Froakies helped save the day too." Ash added.
"And don't forget the power of science." Clemont said, mentioning his robotic arm in his backpack. Sophie walked towards Prof. Sycamore with a note in one hand and walking right next to her was a fully recovered Garchomp healed from the damage the collar that Team Rocket put on her yesterday did.
"Here's the note you requested, Prof. Sycamore." Sophie said handing the note to Prof. Sycamore who took it and thanked his assistant.
"Wait a second, professor. You said one of the things you least wanted to do for us, right? Then what's the other thing?" Bonnie asked wondering what professor Sycamore meant.
"This note here is for a couple of friends of mine who work in Lumiose City's Holo Caster store not too far away from here. Ask for Leon and Cesaire at the desk, tell them Professor Augustine Sycamore sends his regards and hand this note over to them right here." Professor Sycamore said answering Bonnie's question and giving said note to Clemont who pocketed it.
"Um, what's a Holo Caster?" Ash asked curiously with the others having their interest piqued too.
"I'm glad you asked Ash." Prof. Sycamore said. "They're special devices that create a hologram of someone you wish to speak to." He showed them a red one.
"That's awesome." Everyone was impressed by the device.
"I think I'll also send Prof. Samuel Oak for sending not just one, but two regional champions to my lab here in Kalos." The professor added further with the last part causing Clemont and Bonnie to turn around and face Ash and Drake with looks of shock, surprise and awe on their faces.
"Ash, your brother's the regional champion of Kanto!?" The siblings exclaim to the Pallet Town native at the same time.
"Yep." Ash confirmed with his trademark smile.
"Wow Ash, you're so lucky to have two Regional Champions for traveling partners for your journey here in Kalos." Bonnie said with stars appearing in her eyes. Then, her expression turned into a little bit of a disappointed one.
"Aw man, I wish I could go on a journey too." She says, sighing. Clemont noticed this, putting one of his fingers under his chin in thought for a moment before his eyes lit up
"Ash?" Clemont asked.
"Yes Clemont?" The teen in question turned to the blonde-haired boy.
"Can me and Bonnie come along on your journey across Kalos with your brother Drake and your friend Andrew?" Clemont asks again this time with a little bit of a serious tone in his voice. Ash stares at Clemont and Bonnie for a moment before a big smile appears on his face.
"Of course you can go, both of you." He replied to the siblings surprise. Both looked at Drake and Andrew who also nodded with smiles on their faces before turning to each other and gaining smiles of their own complete with happy expressions.
"Yay happy Bonnie!" Bonnie said out loud with lots of excitement before continuing.
"We get to go on a journey! We get to go on a journey!" She sing songed while jumping around and dancing. Everyone's laughing at the scene before it's interrupted by the Froakies.
Before they could say their goodbyes, Garchomp gives one of her own in the form of a very affectionate hug to the Kalos group and a kiss to Pikachu and both Froakies with the former blushing with his cheeks redder than before and the latter turning beet red and fainting with smoke coming from their heads. Everyone's laughing again and they say their goodbyes to professor Sycamore with the Froakies giving each other a fist bump and promising to meet up again before waving with Garchomp and the professor heading to the place Prof. Sycamore requested.
As they were leaving, Nick was on a plane heading for the Kalos Region with Eevee sitting on his lap. (His outfit was a recolored version of Ash's Kalos outfit combined with Albedo's clothing from Ben 10 Alien Force and Ultimate Alien). Nick also had a gray T-Shirt, blue jeans and red and white sneakers with black accents. His hat had a light shade of black.
The group eventually arrives at the store.
"Is Leon here?" Ash asked.
"That would be me." Leon approached them.
"We have a note from Prof. Sycamore." Leon took the note from Clemont.
"Thank you." He replied. "Say how would you like to try a Holo Caster."
Ash and Drake huddled together.
"Should we try them out?" Ash asked, whispering.
Ash then noticed a box elsewhere in the store.
"What's this?" He asked. There was a note attached to the box, left by his mother. Inside was a red and gold Holo Caster. One of several prizes for winning the Pokemon World Tournament along with a trophy. Clemont was impressed and surprised by this achievement as he knew about the tournament and searched for it on his Holo Caster.
Everyone was shown some highlights of the Pokemon World Tournament and a regional champion handing Ash and celebrating with his Pokemon in addition to his friends Misty and Brock, as well as Iris and Cilan. There was a huge party consisting of a parade and other celebrations. Clemont then explained that the Kalos Gym leaders would be inducted into the tournament along with the Kalos Elite Four and Champion, while also mentioning the Orange Island gym leaders, led by a different Drake, also participated followed by the Frontier Brains, Contest challengers and Ribbon Cup winners while explaining the Pokemon World Tournament to Bonnie, who had a worried and concerned look on her face in regards to the Kalos Gym leaders.
"We should probably send a Holo Caster to Mom, in the event we don't come across a Pokemon Center." Ash suggested and Drake nodded in agreement.
"Lysandre, the creator of the Holo Casters has a cafe in the city." Clemont mentioned.
"Can we go there next?" Ash asked.
"Well, big brother." Bonnie added. Then the younger sibling started looking for some women to take care of Clemont.
The sun rose in Vaniville Town and everybody was waking up for the day. There Grace was already up making breakfast for the day before calling Serena down to eat.
"Serena breakfast is ready!" Grace said, calling from downstairs. Then she heard something she didn't expect.
"I'm coming." Serena said, making her way downstairs. Grace was surprised to find her daughter already up and not needing to send Fletchling to peck her awake. By the time Serena was in the kitchen, Grace found her standing in the doorway already dressed while holding two kinds of hats in each hand. She wore a black tank top with a white collar, black stockings, a red skirt and finally black high tops with a pink colored Poke Ball logo on both sides.
"Hey mom." Serena said, getting Grace's attention.
"Which one should I wear?" She asked while holding both hats up high. One was dark red with a pink ball of fluff on top while the other was a pink top hat with a black ribbon around the top. Grace thought before making a choice.
"I'd go with that." She pointed to the dark red hat and just like that Serena made her choice.
"Okay this one then." She did the opposite and picked the pink hat instead.
"If you already knew what to pick, then why did you ask?" Grace said, feeling somewhat offended.
"Because whichever one you didn't pick is the better one, that's why." Serena said while putting on the pink hat. She figured that when it comes to fashion, her mother always picked what she considered to be less fashionable, and so she picks the opposite of what she picks. They then sat down and start to eat. A few moments later, Grace then decided to ask.
"So, what's the occasion?" She asked from across the kitchen table.
Serena then responded. "Mom, I decided that I'm going to Professor Sycamore's lab to get my first Pokemon."
Grace was surprised by her daughter's gesture and then thought back to last night.
"It's him, it's Ash, Ash Ketchum." She remembered what Serena had said and wondered before asking.
"So, is this about the boy you knew during your childhood?" Grace asked, which made Serena blush.
"Wha-no, no, no, no it's not about Ash." She lied, it was about him.
"I can see you're blushing Serena, so it is about him isn't it?" Grace said. Serena knew she couldn't win against her mother but then thought of an idea. She took a deep breath before speaking.
"Actually mom I thought if I go on a journey, it might help me gain some confidence and open doors to new opportunities." She said, hoping her mother would buy it.
"I'll go to Prof. Sycamore and get my first Pokemon." She continued.
"And who knows, maybe I'll run into Ash and maybe he can help me." She said. The last part she hoped would come true. She was hoping to see him again. Grace thought about this and thought this new journey would help Serena in many ways, but not before asking again.
"So, this isn't about the boy." Grace asked.
"N-n-no it's not." Serena said nervously, hoping her mother would let it go.
"Alright you can go on your journey." Grace said, causing Serena to hop off her seat and hug her mother tightly for letting her go.
"But on one condition." Grace said.
"What is it?" Serena asked.
"You let me meet my future son-in-law." Grace said, knowing by Serena's expression that she really cared about this boy.
Serena then blushed heavily at her mother's request and then Grace asked another question.
"So tell me about this boy that stole your heart." Grace asked.
Serena continued to blush but then calmed down after speaking. She told her she and Ash met as children and how she spent a month living with Ash and his mother while Grace was still racing in Kanto after summer camp had concluded. They did everything together, they played together, ate together, helped and supported each other, there was even one night that Serena had a terrible nightmare and woke up screaming loud enough for Ash to come barging in to see if she was okay. She then asked him if he could sleep with her so she wouldn't be alone and Ash said yes which made her heart skip a beat. There she then intertwined her hand with Ash's once he fell asleep and closed her eyes with a smile on her face. Grace was moved by this story, now she knew this Ash boy was special to her daughter.
"That was a very special story dear, now I really want to meet the boy who made my little girl feel special." Grace said.
"Well mom I'm gonna pack up and head out." Serena said before heading back upstairs. After finishing packing, she bid her mother and Rhyhorn farewell.
"I'll miss you Serena." She said with a few tears in her eyes.
"Don't worry mom, I'll call every once in a while." Serena said, before running off.
"Don't forget about our agreement." Grace said, trying to mess with her daughter one last time.
Serena stumbled before saying, "Very funny, goodbye."
Grace then thought, 'Go find your lost love, dear.' She said while getting food for Rhyhorn to eat.
Meanwhile on Route 4 we find the group walking towards Santalune City. From the lab Ash and Drake were already up and having breakfast with the professor until the other three walked in. From there they met Drake, they were awestruck to find out he is a champion back home. There Ash got his Kalos Pokedex (which was identical to the version from the XY series, but was much bigger) and was interrupted by the two Froakies, one of them wanted to join him on his journey. Drake then came back down after changing into his new outfit, he wore a red T-shirt, above that was a black jacket with red patches on the shoulders, black jeans and black and red running shoes similar to Ash's. He also has a dark brown bag with a strap that goes around his shoulder to carry all his things and gear. From there he contacted the president of Silph Co, the company who made him the suit and the staff, and he told him about the suit and how it was damaged during a skirmish. He then sent the suit back using the teleporter, but the President sent him something called the Pokewatch DX. It was a black digital watch that Drake can wear around his wrist. Aside from telling time it can also set up a holographic screen in front of the wearer to scan Pokemon for information like a regular Pokedex, it can also be used to make calls, scan habitats, has a world map of every region to not get lost, and has apps that a poketech commonly has. Drake was mesmerized but the president insisted for his valiant service to Kanto. After saying goodbye to the professor they made their way to the Pokemon Center for Ash to register for the Kalos League. When they got there and Ash registered, people and other trainers noticed the three trainers from the night before. Everyone thanked them for what they did, the brothers felt obliged to accept even though neither of them were ones for praise, some women tried to get their numbers but they lied about having a phone especially Drake who just got a new gadget to make calls on. After leaving the Pokemon Center, they figured they needed to take route 4 to get to Santalune City. Before they can continue however, Clemont and Bonnie asked the other three if they can come along, as they hoped to learn more from the brothers and Sinnoh Champion, they didn't have a problem with it and said yes.
Now back to where we left off.
"Wow I can't believe that one of the biggest companies in the world gave you these things, Drake." Clemont said, drooling over his staff and Pokewatch.
"I know, they told me that the staff was made out of reinforced steel, but somehow that's even beyond me to understand, that they mad scienced the metal to make it lighter than it appears to be. That's why I can wield it to the best of my abilities without struggling over the weight. Plus it can break into two pieces by turning it clockwise or attached by a special steel fiber composite cable by turning it counter-clockwise, and besides I consider the staff a multi-purpose tool rather than a weapon."
"Whatever about that science stuff, I'm still surprised you're a champion." Bonnie said, all of a sudden.
Drake chuckled before saying, "Thanks Bonnie." and kept on going.
Meanwhile a small orange Pokemon with medium sized ears and whiskers coming out of it's cheeks was trying to get a berry from a tree up high. As it tried to pull it out, the group was walking below. It then pulled too hard and the berry then slipped out of it's paws and fell down, hitting Bonnie on the head. Everyone then approached where the berry landed until a sudden jolt sent the berry hurtling towards Bonnie, but Drake caught it while it was in midair. From there the small Pokemon emerged from it's hiding spot to get it's lunch and was confronted by Pikachu. From there, everyone stared at them while both Pokemon did something with their cheeks.
"Huh, maybe it wanted the berry?" Bonnie asked.
Clemont then said, "They're electric types, so they communicate with electricity."
Meanwhile Ash and Drake scanned the Pokemon.
Dedenne: The Antenna Pokemon. Dedenne can send electrical waves to other Dedenne to communicate via it's antenna-like whiskers.
"Wow, so it's a Dedenne." Ash said.
"Aw, it's so cute." Bonnie fangirled over it.
Meanwhile Pikachu and Dedenne were still communicating via electricity.
"Clemont, can you catch Dedenne for me?" Bonnie asked.
"What do you mean by that Bonnie?" Drake questioned her.
"I mean Clemont can catch it for me to take care of until I'm old enough to become a trainer." Bonnie explained.
"Uh...well?" Clemont said, unable to decide.
"Please Clemont, pretty please." Bonnie begged with puppy dog eyes.
"Do it Clemont, I can help you if you want." Ash said.
"Alright I'll do it." Clemont finally said, causing Bonnie to jump in joy.
"Here Bonnie, you can use this to lure Dedenne out." Drake said, as he gave Bonnie the berry from earlier. Bonnie then offers the berry to Dedenne while Clemont got a Poke Ball ready. Suddenly something small and fast snatched the berry from Bonnie's hand. It then lands on a tree branch, staring at the group while Ash and Drake scan it.
Fletchling, the Tiny Robin Pokemon. Despite the beauty of it's lifting voice, it's merciless to intruders that enter it's territory.
"Huh, cool Pokemon." Both brothers said, they looked at each other with the same idea.
"Are you thinking about catching it, Ash?" Drake asked.
"Well yeah, why? Are you thinking the same thing." Ash said. Drake nodded in response, but then decided the best thing for Ash.
"Well me being the older, more generous brother. You can take this one." Drake said.
"Hey, I can be generous too." Ash said.
"True, but I can be a bit more so are you gonna catch it or not?" Drake asked. Ash nodded and summoned Froakie to battle.
Froakie then saw tears in Bonnie's eyes, so it thought Fletchling had done something to her. Before they could start however, they turn back to see Dedenne crying, probably due to it's berry being stolen and eaten. It then ran away, much to Bonnie's dismay as she started to cry. After that Froakie had enough.
"Alright Froakie use-" Before Ash could finish the command, Froakie had already launched a Water Pulse at Fletchling, but since Fletchling is a flying type it had more mobility in the air.
"Froakie wait!" Ash said, but the Frog Pokemon didn't listen as it tried to use a Bubble attack with limited success after Fletchling used Double Team and Peck to hit Froakie, leaving it's mark.
"Froakie wait up, we need a plan first." Ash said, but Froakie still didn't listen as it went for another direct assault with Water Pulse that Fletchling effortlessly outmaneuvered, and then it followed up with a Razor Wind. The Razor Wind sent Froakie hurtling towards a tree, but Ash caught him while the force and speed caused him to hit his arm on the tree leaving a fresh bruise on it.
"Ash, are you okay?" Drake asked.
"Yes, but it's Froakie I'm worried about." Ash said.
Froakie was surprised by this. He thought Ash would yell at him for his disobedience, after all every other trainer Froakie had did that after refusing an order. But Ash was different rather than putting him down, he was more concerned if he was okay.
"Froakie, are you okay?" Ash asked.
Froakie nodded and noticed the bruise on his arm, feeling terrible his trainer was hurt because of him.
"Fro, fro?" Froakie asked.
"He said are you okay because he noticed the bruise." Drake said.
"Oh, I'm fine Froakie." Ash replied.
"Fro, kie, kie, Fro!" Froakie said.
"Froakie said he's sorry you got hurt." Drake explained.
"Don't worry about it Froakie." Ash said.
"Fro, Froakie, kie." It said.
"He said he did what he did because he saw Bonnie become sad because of Fletchling." Drake said.
Ash now understood why Froakie attacked without being told to. He was trying to get back at Fletchling for hurting Bonnie.
"It's okay Froakie I understand, but if you want to get back at Fletchling we'll do it together, okay?" Ash said. Froakie nodded and accepted his trainer's help.
"Well, it may not matter because Fletchling's gone." Bonnie said as Clemont brainstormed a idea.
"Ha, you leave that to me. The future is now thanks to science CLEMONTIC GEAR on. May I present the Bird Pokemon Luring Machine." Clemont presented a record player with dignity.
"That's a dumb name." Bonnie said. She couldn't believe her brother's inability to come up with names.
"It is quite a mouthful." Drake said.
"Will this even work effectively?" Andrew asked.
"Ha, believe me when this device emulates a magnetic substance that controls a flying type's homing instinct via sound waves of a certain frequency." Clemont explained while Ash and Bonnie looked dumbfounded, as Drake understood what he was saying.
"You mean, kinda like how a magnet attracts metal." Drake said, as Ash and Bonnie caught on.
"Exactly my champion friend now here we go, power on." Clemont then cranked up the record player, there Fletchling sat on a branch watching what's happening.
"There it is." Bonnie said.
"Ha I told you." Clemont said, while still cranking the device.
But there, Fletchling remained in place looking unscathed while something in the trees surrounded the group.
"Uh, you should probably stop." Ash said, nervously.
"Clemont?" Bonnie said.
"Huh, it should be working." Clemont said, looking a bit confused. Then a hive of Beedrill came out.
"Oh, it's working alright." Andrew said, sarcastically.
"Beedrill!" Drake shouted.
"THEY WERE ATTRACTED BY IT?!" Clemont exclaimed, not realizing his mistake.
"RUN." Ash said.
Then everyone started running down the path, while Clemont was still cranking the machine.
"The frequency I must've picked was too low and a higher frequency would've worked on bird Pokemon." Clemont said while still cranking the machine. He then started to crank faster which attracted the Beedrill a lot more.
"Clemont stop!" Drake yelled.
"You're only making the Beedrill angrier!" Ash yelled
"I'm sure I can still attract the bird Pokemon if I crank it up to full blast, here goes." Clemont said.
Boom
The blast sent all the Beedrill away while sending the group into a canyon.
"*grunt* is everybody okay?" Drake asked while recovering. Everyone was dirty and covered in dirt, regardless they nodded yes to Drake's question.
"Wow Clemont, I'm impressed your device worked." Drake said.
"Yeah just not in the way it was supposed to." Clemont said with his head hung low.
"Aw come on, I'm impressed how it attracted all those Beedrill, you should be proud." Ash said happily.
"Aw thanks you guys." Clemont said.
Meanwhile the group looked up to see Fletchling circling around and laughing at them.
"Hey it's laughing at us." Bonnie said.
"Well this time I'm gonna catch it." Ash said with confidence along with Froakie.
"Alright, you ready Froakie?" Froakie nodded and prepared for battle.
"Froakie, use Water Pulse." Froakie launched the attack, but Fletchling outmaneuvered it and used Peck to hit him which was successful.
'Alright, try to restrain it.' Ash thought.
"Use your frubbles to hit it." Ash said. Froakie then tried to hit Fletchling with it's frubbles, but it kept dodging.
"Quick, use the canyon walls to keep up with it." Ash said. Froakie then hopped across the canyon wall to keep up and then came up with an idea. While Fletchling wasn't looking, Froakie set up a decoy behind a pillar. Fletchling thought he saw Froakie hiding behind the pillar. It took the bait and used Peck on the frubble decoy before feeling sticky.
"Quick use Water Pulse from above." Ash took the chance and Froakie fired at Fletchling, hitting it.
"Alright, end this with Pound." Froakie's paw glowed white and hit the downed Bird Pokemon from above. There, Fletchling was too injured to do anything and Ash prepared a Poke Ball.
"Alright go Poke Ball." Ash threw the ball and it hit Fletchling, sending him in. The ball shook and shook in place until
*ding*
Ash then picked the Poke Ball up and released Fletchling.
"Welcome to the family, Fletchling." Ash said as Fletchling chirped saying thank you.
"And Fletchling the next time you're hungry tell me, because stealing food from others is very bad." Bonnie said, scolding Fletchling as he apologized.
"It's okay Fletchling I forgive you." Bonnie said.
"Here you go Fletchling, Froakie." Ash said handing each of them an Oran Berry.
"Alright, let's get moving before it gets dark." Drake said. But before they could, a small Pokemon approached them.
"Hey is that the Dedenne from before?" Ash asked.
It then approached Bonnie and nuzzled her leg.
"Aw how cute." Bonnie said, before picking it up. She then nuzzled it causing electricity to discharge electricity from it's cheeks, shocking her.
"Huh Dedenne can use Nuzzle, who knew." Clemont said.
"Wow, that was shocking." Bonnie said, feeling paralyzed.
"Do you want one Dedenne?" Ash offered it an Oran Berry and Dedenne accepted. After it finished, it went to Clemont and spoke to him.
"He said he wants to come with you Clemont." Drake explained.
"Really, you do Dedenne?" Clemont asked and Dedenne nodded.
"Alright Poke Ball go." Clemont threw the Poke Ball and hit Dedenne, sucking it in. It dinged with almost no resistance and Clemont let Dedenne out.
"Can I take care of it Clemont, please?" Bonnie asked and Clemont nodded. Then Bonnie took Dedenne and put him in her bag. From there they continued to Santalune City. They got there in the afternoon, but the gym was closed so they decided to stay at the nearby Pokemon Center.
A plane arrived in Lumiose City and Nick Parker and his Eevee disembarked.
"Well, we finally made it to Kalos." Nick told his partner as they came down the ramp.
"Eh-vee." Eevee said back.
"Now what should we do while we're here?" He asked the evolution Pokemon.
"Oh yeah, there's supposed to be a gym here." Nick added. "Might as well kill some time."
The two questioned a cab driver. For a small fee, he drove them to Lumiose Tower. When the two stepped inside a computer voice asked how many badges Nick possessed.
"Badges? I just arrived not that long ago." He admitted.
"Please return when you have four badges." Nick and Eevee left the gym feeling disappointed.
While looking for Ash, the black-haired trainer bumped into someone on the street.
"I'm sorry." He apologized.
"It's okay." The woman said reassuringly. "My name's Alexa."
"My name's Nick Parker from Mt. Silver, in the Johto Region."
"I'm actually looking for someone in a red hat. He and two others were involved in a recent incident." Nick explained. This caused Alexa to realize he is one of Ash's friends and both have more in common than just knowing Ash.
"Yeah, also Prof. Sycamore's lab is on South Boulevard." Alexa informed him. After they parted ways Alexa felt there was something familiar about him.
"Where have I heard the name Nick Parker from?"
As Nick and Eevee continued towards the lab, Froakie felt his potential as they got closer.
Nick and Eevee then arrive at the lab and notice the damage to the building with construction crews repairing it.
"Whoa, what happened here?" He asked as Eevee wondered the same thing.
"Let's just hope that Prof. Sycamore is alright." Eevee said something in agreement.
Meanwhile Prof. Sycamore and his assistants were continuing to clean up the aftermath of the lab incident when someone walked in.
"Hello is Prof. Sycamore around?" Serena asked, there the professor appeared while reading a book on the steps.
"That's me, I'm here." The professor said.
"Hello, I'm Serena Yvonne." Serena introduced herself.
"I bet you're here to become a Pokemon Trainer." The professor said, and Serena nodded.
"Also I saw three trainers on the news last night. The reports are all about how they defeated a giant robot and saved a Garchomp."
"Oh, you're referring to Ash, Drake and Andrew?"
'Ash I knew it was you. Huh Drake? I remember him telling me about a older brother who was already on a journey when we were younger. Guess that must be him.'
"I'm afraid they already left. They said they were heading to Santalune City."
"Santalune City. Okay professor can I choose a Pokemon?"
"Very well, everyone come out." From there Sophie and three Pokemon came out. One was a yellow fox with patches of red fur on the tip of it's tail and ears. One was a brown nut with claws on it's feet and green spikes on it's head. The last one was a blue frog which was a Froakie.
"These are the three Pokemon new trainers can choose. Fennekin, Chespin and Froakie. Which one will you choose as your partner."
Serena looked at all three but decided long beforehand.
"They're all great, but you see I've already made my choice before leaving home." She then approached Fennekin and said.
"Fennekin I pick you, I'm Serena." Fennekin barked happily that she was finally chosen.
"Now take these, your Pokedex and Poke Balls." The professor gave her some items.
Serena then took them and thanked the professor.
"Okay professor, thank you for everything."
Then a young black-haired man with blue and silver eyes and a Eevee on his shoulder knocked on the door, gaining the professor's and Serena's attention.
"I wonder who that is." The professor said.
"Hello professor Sycamore, are you still there?"
"Yes, you may come in." Prof. Sycamore replied and Nick entered.
"Hi. My name is Nicholas Parker but you can call me Nick. I was told by professor Oak that you have a Kalos regional Pokedex and some Kalos starter choices for me to choose and pick up when I got to the lab." Nick said, introducing himself and explaining his reasons for coming when he locked eyes with Serena recognizing her hairstyle and face. His eyes then widened.
"Nick is that you?" Serena asked as he nods yes.
Flashback
"Hey there, my name's Nick Parker. What's yours?"
"Serena Yvonne."
"Nice name. Say what do you intend to do when you get older?" He questioned the blonde-haired girl.
"I have no idea, honestly." Serena admitted.
End flashback
"Serena, is it really you?" He asked her, a smile starting to form on his face.
"The one and only." Serena confirms it with a smile of her own.
"Ah, yes Nick. I was told about you coming here to Kalos and stopping by my laboratory to pick up a Pokedex and a Kalos starter very soon by Samuel. By the way, you two know each other?" Professor Sycamore asked looking back and forth at Nick and Serena.
"Hmm? Oh, right. Yes, me and Serena here have been friends for 8 years ever since we met back when we were in Prof. Oak's Summer Camp together. I still remember it like it was yesterday." Nick explained, rubbing the back of his head.
Meanwhile, the Froakie right beside Clemont's Chespin who was friends with Froakie had been looking Nick over ever since he came in as his eyes seemed to glow in the sunlight. Froakie then looked at the Eevee on his shoulder who was still smiling then back to him.
"Ah, yes I happen to recall Samuel talking about doing several of these Summer Camp classes over the years. I believe that he still does them to this day. I didn't think I would get to meet some of his students from one of his classes." The professor replied back accepting Nick's answer thinking about a former assistant that he had working for him up until a few years ago.
"Actually, Ash is also another one of Prof. Oak's students. In fact, I was in the same class with Nick and Ash plus one more who is also a longtime friend and neighbor of mine named Calem." Serena chimed in to correct Prof. Sycamore's statement which surprised him.
"Calem?! The Calem?! He's the one who won the Kalos Junior Tournament a couple years back and is said to be one of the best trainers ever in the entire Kalos Region plus he's even given our current Champion Diantha a really tough time when she and Calem had an exhibition match some time ago to the point they battled all the way to a draw. It's even said that he's an early favorite to win the entire Kalos League this year should he enter." Professor Sycamore said surprising Serena but majorly shocking Nick about hearing how far Calem has come since they last met 8 years ago.
"Wow, so Calem has gotten that much stronger that he's practically a celebrity. Of course, there are a couple of people out there who could put him on the ropes and have the potential to beat him and me and Ash are just 2 of them." Nick said, looking shocked for a moment before gaining a grin and a very determined look on his face at the last sentence.
"Yeah, I've seen him the other day before I left to come here. He told me a couple of things he did over the years but not all of it judging from what I just learned from the professor here. He must be really of himself and his Pokemon making it this far." Serena said still mildly surprised remembering some of the talks that she had with Calem over the years. Nick then remembered what he wanted to talk to Prof. Sycamore about and facepalmed.
"Oh right. By the way professor, what happened to your laboratory? It looks like a Mamoswine went charging through the place." Nick asked wondering about the construction crews outside and probably inside fixing up the laboratory. Prof. Sycamore's expression turned a bit serious before he answered.
"It was because of a group of Pokemon thieves named Team Rocket who targeted my Garchomp which caused her to go on a rampage here and throughout a large part of Lumiose City but thankfully Ash, Drake and Andrew with help from some siblings and a man in a Blaziken mask managed to stop them and save Garchomp from serious harm." The words "Team Rocket" immediately caused Nick and Eevee to frown as well as Froakie's friend who remembered the situation from yesterday.
"Those guys again?! I know Team Rocket all too well because they've caused a lot of trouble mainly in both Kanto and Johto, Ash and mine's home regions and I remember hearing about their takeover stunt a little over a year ago before Ash, Drake and Andrew with some help from friends took them down and they got disbanded. Looks like some of them still didn't learn their lesson." Nick said, with some sarcasm and anger in his voice with Eevee also voicing his displeasure at the news since they both saw what happened here in the city on the plane to Kalos. This surprised the Froakie as the trainer he was watching also had encountered the group he helped send packing the other day and that he was a friend of the boy his friend chose to go along with the girl that chose Fennekin as her partner. He smiled at this turn of events and he's chosen his trainer well who can bring his full power to the surface plus he started to take a liking to the teen.
"So, which one of them caused this mess?" Nick continued.
"A man, a woman and a talking Meowth surprisingly." Prof. Sycamore answered causing Nick to do a double take with Eevee.
"Those 3 clowns did this?! I thought that machine on the Tower yesterday looked oddly familiar. They tried to take my Pokemon especially my Eevee several times when I've encountered them but I'm surprised they've gone this far for Pokemon. Still, it makes sense about them talking about this particularly powerful Pikachu that they've been trying to catch because it must be Ash's Pikachu they're talking about catching especially since they attempted to do that yesterday." Nick said, thinking about what they said before. Serena is thinking about this "Team Rocket" Nick and Prof. Sycamore are talking about thinking she needs to be careful with her Pokemon in the future.
"Now with that out of the way, I guess we can continue with giving you a starter and a Kalos region Pokedex. That's the reason why you're here, right? Serena here has already chosen Fennekin as hers." Prof. Sycamore asked Nick with a smile appearing back on his face, handing Nick a red and silver Pokedex.
"Oh right." The black-haired trainer said before scanning the 3 Pokemon choices.
Chespin, the Spiny Nut Pokemon. The quills on its head are usually soft. When it flexes them, the points become so hard and sharp that they can pierce rock.
Fennekin, the Fox Pokemon. Eating a twig fills it with energy, and it's roomy ears give vent to air hotter than 390 degrees Fahrenheit.
Froakie, the Bubble Frog Pokemon. It secretes flexible bubbles from its chest and back. The bubbles reduce the damage it would otherwise take when attacked.
Garchomp then arrived from another part of the lab noticing Nick and Serena, sensing they were trustworthy before walking over to them and the professor.
Garchomp, the Mach Pokemon. It flies at the speed of sound searching for prey, and it has midair battles with Salamance as the two compete for food.
Garchomp then allowed Nick and Serena to pet her and she warms up to them.
"These two are longtime friends of the trainers who saved you the other day." Prof. Sycamore explained. Hearing this, Garchomp showed the two affection along with their Pokemon. Just like yesterday Garchomp kisses Froakie causing him to pass out again and then Eevee receives one as his head becomes bright red and everyone laughs.
"That reminds me." The professor added. "Nick, Serena, Prof. Oak, Prof. Elm and your mother ordered each of you a Holo Caster." Cesaire delivered the Holo Casters and gave them to both trainers who thanked the woman. Nick had a yellow one while Serena's was pink and white.
Just like Serena though, he knew which Pokemon he wanted to get. Nick walks over and stops in front of Froakie with him and Eevee smiling ask the blue frog: "Hey there pal, I'm wondering if I can ask you something: Would you like to go on a journey with me and my Eevee through Kalos? I promise that you'll be well taken care of and I see us making memories while we go on adventures and have fun together and also become stronger together. So wanna go on an adventure together?"
"Fro, fro, fro." Froakie said, holding a hand out to bump fists with Nick, who does it immediately. Froakie then jumps onto Nick's remaining empty shoulder, giving birth to a new friendship.
"I actually had a dream that I chose Froakie on my way here." Nick explained, intriguing Prof. Sycamore and shocks Froakie's friend even further that this trainer had a dream about choosing him as his first Kalos Pokemon partner and he's moved by this.
"Hey, where did Ash, Drake and Andrew go anyway?" Nick asked, hoping they were still in Lumiose.
"Odds are they're already heading to Santalune City so Ash can obtain his first Kalos badge." Serena told him.
"Well, could I come with you to meet up with Ash?" Nick asked.
"Absolutely." Serena nodded yes and from there it was decided they will be traveling together for the time being to Santalune City. After receiving goodbye hugs from Garchomp and best wishes from Prof. Sycamore, Sophie and Cesaire everyone waves and said goodbye to each other.
"That reminds me. Let's head to Lysandre Cafe before we leave Lumiose City." Nick and Serena walk to the Pokemon Center in Magenta Plaza and Lysandre Cafe isn't that far away from it. Nick wanted to see how good the food from Kalos was.
Time skip
"Man, was that food great or what. And boy how surprised will Ash be to find two childhood friends after all this time." Nick and Serena conversed with each other.
Serena and Nick then headed off to Santalune City. It was getting late and Serena and Fennekin were in Santalune Forest. Both felt lost and tried to get directions from a person only for it to turn out to be a Vespiquen. It attacked Serena, as Nick released Froakie and with Eevee alongside, the two fuse Shadow Ball and Water Pulse to form as Nick described it "Shadow Pulse" just as Fennekin used Ember to cancel her attack and scare it away.
"You okay, Serena?" Nick asked his childhood friend.
"I am." Serena replied. "What was that attack your Pokemon used?"
"I'll tell you later."
From there Nurse Joy found them and directed them to the Pokemon Center nearby. There they had dinner and booked a room for the night. In bed she was thinking about how Ash would react to seeing her after all these years.
'I'm coming Ash and I'm not alone.' She thought before going to sleep.
