Big Kid Teacher

This one is set before season 1. A moment between Snow and five year old Hanna.

Hanna ran as fast as she could up the sidewalk towards the school. She had a very important drawing in her desk. Hanna knew if she hurried, she could have some time before school started to work on it. She was almost done with the drawing part, and then she could finally color it. Hanna may have been a little too excited though. She was running so fast that she tripped over her shoes and fell onto the sidewalk.

Hanna instantly felt stinging on both of her hands and both of her knees really hurt.

"Hey little one, are you alright?"

Hanna looked up and saw a big kid teacher kneeling down beside her.

"My name is Miss Blanchard. Can I help you up?"

Hanna nodded. Miss Blanchard reached out her hand and helped her stand. Hanna looked down. She saw the blood on both of her knees and started to cry.

"Oh, it's okay, sweetie. How about I take you to the nurse?"

Hanna lifted her arms up towards the teacher.

Miss Blanchard smiled and picked the little girl up into her arms. She carried her through the front door and down the hallway towards the nurses office. "What's your name?"

"Hanna."

"That's a very pretty name." She wiped the tears from Hanna's cheeks.

Hanna smiled. "Thank you."

"How old are you, Hanna?"

"I'm five."

"What a big girl. I bet you're in kindergarten, right?"

Hanna nodded.

"Do you like school?"

"Sometimes."

"What's your favorite part?"

"I like it when I can draw and color."

"Oh I bet you really like art class then, huh?"

Hanna nodded. "Oh yes, I do. And guess what?"

"What?"

"I have a very special picture I'm drawing."

"You do?"

"Uh huh! I'm almost done with the drawing part, then guess what?"

Miss Blanchard couldn't help but smile at the little girl. "What?"

"I can color it! Coloring is my favorite."

"I like to color too."

"Really?"

"Yup."

"Guess what I'm drawing?"

"Umm…a pony?"

"Nope."

"A mermaid?"

Hanna shook her head. "A big castle and a princess!"

"Wow!"

"Guess who lives inside the castle?"

"Who?"

"The princess's mommy and daddy…and her sister!"

"Are you going to draw them too?"

"No…I don't know what they look like yet."

"Well, I bet the picture will be beautiful."

Hanna nodded.

"Okay, here we are." Miss Blanchard walked into the nurse's office. She explained to the nurse what happened, then set Hanna down in the chair. "I have to get to my class now. The nurse will get you all fixed up, okay?"

"No, I want you to do it!"

Miss Blanchard sighed and looked up at the clock. She still had some time before she needed to be in her classroom. Her students would be okay if she was a few minutes late. "Okay." She got some supplies from the nurse and started to clean Hanna's knees.

Hanna could feel the tears start to well up in her eyes. "That hurts."

"I'm sorry. I just need to get all the germs out. Can you be brave for me?"

Hanna nodded.

Once the scrapes were clean, Miss Blanchard held out a few band-aids to Hanna. "Which ones do you want?"

"Ummm…" Hanna examined all of her choices. She pointed to a purple one with silver stars. "This one and…" She pointed to one that was yellow with white stripes. "This one."

"Good choices." Miss Blanchard gave her a wink, then applied the band-aids to each of her knees. She reached down and kissed each one. "All better?"

Hanna smiled and nodded.

"How about your hands?"

Hanna held them out. "They still hurt a little."

Miss Blanchard wiped her hands as well. "I think they'll feel better soon. Are you read to go to your class now?"

"Yeah." Hanna stood and reached her arms up to Miss Blanchard again.

Miss Blanchard picked her up and walked towards the kindergarten class.

"How many minutes until school starts?" Hanna asked.

"It started a few minutes ago, actually."

Hanna sighed. "I guess I have to wait til recess to finish my picture."

"That's okay. It'll give your hands some time to feel better."

"Yeah you're right."

Miss Blanchard stopped out side the classroom. "Alright Miss Hanna, here you go."

Hanna wrapped her arms around Miss Blanchard. "Thanks for helping me."

Miss Blanchard return the hug. "Of course." She put the little girl down and couldn't help but smile as she watched her run into the classroom. She felt as if she could have talked with this little girl for hours. There was just something about her. Miss Blanchard couldn't quite put her finger on it.
