Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who that goes to the BBC
Rory found himself on a street as he looked around and put his hands in his pockets and headed for the nearest building, which had the name 'Winter Quay' at the building's roof and had an angel on a pedestal near the building's entrance doors.
Back at Grayle's mansion, Amy sat on the bottom steps with Rose as the Doctor paced around.
"So is this what's going to happen?" Amy asked them, "We just keep chasing him back in time and they keep pulling him further back."
"It's possible, Amy," Rose answered.
River then came out of the study with her trench coat back on and was reading from her handheld tablet as she kept her right arm hanging at her side.
"He isn't back in time. I'm reading a displacement, but there are no temporal markers," the archeologist told them, "He's been moved in space, not in time, and it's not that far from here, by the look of it." She then looked at the Doctor and Roose.
"You got out," the Doctor said with relief in his voice.
"I can't believe you got out of the Angel's grasp without breaking your wrist," Rose muttered, agreeing with her husband.
"So where is he?" Amy asked her daughter.
As Rory approached Winter Quay, he slowly climbed up the front steps. The doors suddenly opened on their own with a creak. Rory looked around at the street before entering the building. The angel on the pedestal had its arms out to attack.
"Well, come on, come on, come on, where is he?!" The Doctor asked River as he continued to pace across the front hall again, but this time more excitedly.
"If it was that easy, I'd get you to do it," River told him.
"How did you get your wrist out without breaking it?" The Doctor asked her.
"He's right, how did you manage to free yourself without breaking your wrist?" Rose said, agreeing with her husband.
"You asked, Doctor. I did," River told them, "Problem?"
"You just changed the future!" The Doctor stated as he laughed, happily.
"Yeah, you managed to change the future, River," Rose muttered, agreeing with her husband, "I didn't think that was possible after you read something in a book."
"It's called 'friendship,' River told them, "Now, hush. I'm working."
"She's brilliant, isn't she?" The Doctor told Rose as he sat next to her and Amy, "Oh! Have you noticed, love? Really, really brilliant."
"Yeah, she is brilliant, Theta," Rose said, agreeing with him.
"Ah, wherever it is, it's within a few blocks," River told them, "There's a car out front. Shall we steal it?"
"Show me!" The Doctor requested as he stood back up in a rush.
"And show me as well," Rose said, agreeing with her husband as he grabbed River's right hand on the way out the door with his left hand as she followed him, causing River to gasp in pain as the Doctor and Rose stopped and looked at River's bruised and swollen hand.
Inside Winter Quays, Rory looked around the building. He then turned to face the lift as it came down before its gates slid open by themselves as its bell dinged. The nurse then walked towards the lift.
Back at Grayle's mansion, River was sitting on the steps with Rose as Amy was standing by the wall with her reading glasses over her eyes again.
"Okay. Um, when all those numbers on both units go to zero, that's when we've got a lock, okay?" The Doctor told Amy as he handed her Jack's vortex manipulator and River's handheld, "That's how we find Rory."
"Got it," Amy replied as the Doctor went to sit in between Rose and River on the steps.
"Why did you lie to us?" The Doctor asked the archeologist.
"Yeah, why did you tell us that you got your wrist out of the Angel's grasp without breaking your wrist, River?" Rose said, agreeing with her, "Why did you tell us that instead of telling us that you actually broke your wrist while doing so?"
"When one befriends an ageless God who insists on the face of a 12-year-old and their wife, an ageless Goddess that appears slightly older than him, one does one's best to hide the damage," River explained to both Gallifreyans.
"It must hurt," the Doctor muttered as he looked at River's broken wrist.
"Yes," River confirmed, "The wrist is pretty bad, too."
"River, we could use a bit of our regeneration energy to heal your wrist. It won't cost us much, but we thought we should ask you first," Rose told her, "Are you okay with that?"
"Rose, go ahead and heal my wrist," River answered, "But let's not tell Jack about this, alright? I know he'd worry if he found out."
"Alright, River, I'll do it. And don't worry, your secret's safe with us," Rose assured her, "Let's get you fixed up and back in action."
The Time Lady then placed her left hand above River's as the archeologist's right hand began to glow gold regeneration energy. Within a few seconds of River's hand being engulfed with Rose's regeneration energy, the archeologist's wrist was healed as she removed her left hand from River's right hand.
"There you go, River. Good as new," Rose told her, "Just remember, try to stay out of the grip of Weeping Angels next time, alright?"
"How is it, River?" The Doctor asked her.
"Well, let's see, shall we?" River muttered to herself as she flexed her right hand before she slapped him on the right side of his face.
"Ah!" The Doctor yelled in pain.
"Being with a Weeping Angel nearby is dangerous enough, but leaving me with one alone, really?!" River said with anger in her voice, "Nothing is gained by you being a sentimental idiot!"
"River!" The Doctor yelled out at her.
"No!" River muttered with disbelief in her voice as she stood back up, "You embarrass me!"
"I'm sorry!" The Doctor yelled out to her as River walked out of the room as Amy watched River leave before she looked back at the Doctor as he sprawled himself on the steps.
"Tell you what," Amy said as she walked over to the Time Lord and removed her eyeglasses and leaned over him, "Like Rose sticks with the history part, stick to the science part, Doctor." She then gave the Doctor River's handheld and handed Rose Jack's vortex manipulator before she followed River outside before the Doctor stamped his feet in frustration as Rose began comforting him.
"Okay, why did you lie?" Amy asked River as she walked over to her outside of Grayle's mansion as she was standing by the car that she and Rory arrived at the mansion in earlier.
"Never let either of them see the damage," River explained to her mother before Amy walked over to her and put her right hand around River;s right shoulder before she turned around towards her, "And never, ever, let him see you age. He doesn't like endings. She doesn't either. Ever since Rose opened her fob watch when she was 220, she's become slightly more like the Doctor. They both resist endings in their own ways."
Back in the front hall of Grayle's mansion, the tracker of River's handheld beeped as the read-out showed the name 'Winter Quay' and showed that it was nearby and a few streets away from the East River.
"There you are," the Doctor muttered to himself.
"That's where Rory is," Rose muttered to herself.
"Got it! He's in a place called Winter Quay," the Doctor announced as he left the mansion with Rose and ran down the stairs towards Amy and River, "The car, yes? Let's go."
"Like he said, let's go," Rose said, agreeing with her husband as they ran towards the car and got in as a statue of a mother and son watched them as the car drove away.
Back inside Winter Quay, Rory exited the lift as it reached the top of the lift's shaft. Electricity crackled as he slowly walked down the hall and peered at one of the nameplates and reached for the door. It opened for him by itself and as he turned to walk into the room, he didn't notice an Angel at the end of the hall and entered the apartment.
The car that both Gallifreyans, Amy and River were in turned around a corner with the tyres screeching and broke to a halt. Amy climbed out from behind the wheel. The Doctor and Rose were in the back seat and River was sitting in the car's front passenger seat. River had her handheld in her left hand.
"Why would they send him here?" River asked both Gallifreyans, "Why not zap him back in time, like they normally do?"
"That's what we're trying to find out," Rose told her.
"And, we'll know that when we know what this place is," the Doctor added before he and Rose got out of the car as River did the same.
"Winter Quay," Amy stated as she looked at the building before the four of them ran towards the building as the Doctor, Rose and Amy ran up the stairs with the doors opening on their own with a creak like they did before with Rory.
"Rory?" Amy called out to her husband as she left the lift as it reached the third floor with its gate sliding open and walked out of the lift.
"He's close," River told her as she, Rose and the Doctor followed Amy out of the lift.
"Rory!" Amy called out to her husband again as she strode down the hall before she peered inside the open door and saw him in the entrance to the apartment, "Rory!" She then ran into the apartment and approached him.
"Amy," Rory muttered before they hugged each other.
Outside of the apartment, River was still using the tracker from her handheld as she, the Doctor and Rose began to approach it, but stopped short outside the apartment as the tracker began to beep rapidly.
"Doctor, Rose," River called out to both Gallifreyans as she saw something at the other end of the hall, "Look at this." Both Gallifreyans then looked at the other end of the hall as well and saw an Angel at the other end of the hall and that it was smiling, "Why is it smiling?"
"I have a grave suspicion why, River," Rose told her as she and the Doctor saw the nameplate by the apartment door and that it read 'R. Williams.'
"Amy. Rory!" The Doctor called out to his and Rose's companions before they, along with River, ran into the apartment where Amy and Rory were hugging, "Get out of here. Don't look at anything. Don't touch anything."
"You both better do as he says," Rose said, agreeing with her husband as River locked the apartment's door behind them, "Because we've just worked this all..." As she said that, they looked into the bedroom.
"Who's that?" Amy asked them as she saw an old man with light skin, white hair and blue eyes lying on the bed and reached out with a gasp when he sees them with his left hand.
"Amy," the old man muttered, hoarsely, "Amy, please." The Doctor and Rose both looked away as Amy slowly walked towards the old man, "Amy." She then took his left hand with her own left hand, "Please. Please." She then knelt before him as the old man wheezed and panted as Amy looked at him.
"Rory?" Amy muttered with shock in her voice before she looked at the younger Rory, "He's you." Rory then turned away from his future self.
"Amy," the older Rory gasped as he rested back against his bed's pillows before passing away as Amy let go of his left hand with her own left hand.
"Someone, please, tell me what is going on," Rory requested with confusion in his voice.
"I'm sorry, Rory, but you just died," the Doctor apologised as he slowly turned around towards him with Rose doing the same.
"I'm sorry, Rory," Rose said, agreeing with her husband, "I'm so, so sorry. But what you just witnessed was your own death, caused by a paradox created by Weeping Angels." Rory then gulped before turning around to watch Amy with his future and dead self.
"This place is policed by Angels," the Doctor stated, "Every time you try to escape, you get zapped back in time."
"So this place belongs to the Angels?" Amy asked them, "They built it?"
"Not exactly, Amy," Rose told her, "The Angels didn't build this place. They're scavengers, not builders. They've taken over this place because it's full of time energy, which they feed on. It's like a farm for them. They zap people back in time, creating time energy from the days they might have had, and that's their food. This place, it's more like… their hunting ground."
"Exactly," the Doctor said, agreeing with her, "How many Angels in New York?"
"It's like they've taken over every statue in the city," River answered.
"Yeah, the Angels take Manhattan because they can," the Doctor added, "Because they've never had a food source like this one, the city that never sleeps."
"Doctor, when they called it 'the city that never sleeps' I never thought they meant it quite so literally!" Rose chuckled, "Leave it to the Weeping Angels to take a figure of speech to a whole new level." They then suddenly heard crashing footsteps outside the room.
"What was that?" Rory asked them.
"I don't know, but I think they're coming for you," the Doctor answered.
"Yeah, I think so as well," Rose said, agreeing with her husband.
"What does that mean?" Rory asked both Gallifreyans as the Doctor sat down in a chair nearby and placed his hands over his face, "What is going to happen to me? What is physically going to happen?"
"The Angels will come for you. They'll zap you back in time, to this very spot, 30, 40 years ago," The Doctor answered, "And you will live out the rest of your life in that room, until you die in that bed."
"And will Amy be there?" Rory asked him as the crashing sound continued outside the room.
"No," both Gallifreyans answered at the same time.
"How do you both know?" Amy asked them with confusion in his voice.
"Isn't it obvious?" Rose retorted with sadness in her voice.
"Because he was so pleased to see you again," the Doctor explained.
"Exactly," Rose said, agreeing with him.
"Okay. Well, they haven't taken me yet," Rory stated as he chuckled, "What if I just run? What if I just get the hell out of here? Then that never happens."
"It's already happened, Rory," the Doctor reminded him, "You've just witnessed your own future."
"Doctor, he's right," River told the Time Lord.
"No, he isn't," the Doctor argued.
"If Rory got out, it would create a paradox," River explained.
"River's right, Doctor," Rose said, agreeing with him, "If Rory runs, it would indeed create a paradox. But paradoxes aren't always destructive. Sometimes, they can be our greatest weapon. If Rory creates a paradox by escaping, it would cancel out the original paradox. It's risky, and it could cause a lot of temporal instability, but it might just rewrite the future. It's not an ideal solution, but right now, it might be our only chance."
"What is that?" Amy asked them as the crashing sound outside became louder.
"This is the Angels' food source," River answered, "The paradox poisons the well. It could kill them all. This whole place would literally unhappen."
"It would be almost impossible," the Doctor added.
"Loving the 'almost,'" River told him as she and Rose crossed their arms.
"Me, too," Rose said, agreeing with the archeologist.
"But to create a paradox like that takes almost unimaginable power," the Doctor stated as he stood back up, "What have we got? Eh? Tell me. Come on, what?"
"I won't let them take him," Amy answered as she went over to Rory and stood by him and took his left hand into her right hand, "That's what we got."
"Whatever that thing is, it's getting closer," Rory stated as he joined the Doctor by the window as the crashing sound became even louder.
"Rory, even if you got out, you'd have to keep running for the rest of your life," the Doctor told the nurse as Rose and River lowered their arms, "They would be chasing you forever."
"Well, then, better get started," Amy suggested before she opened the door with her left hand to reveal an Angel, "Husband, run!"
Rory then rubbed the Doctor's right arm in farewell with his right hand before joining Amy by the door and made a run for it. The Doctor and Rose both took out their sonic screwdrivers as he headed to the door himself to reveal that there were now two Angels.
"Arkytior, River, I'm not sure this can work," the Doctor admitted to them.
"Love, shut it," Rose ordered her husband.
"Like she said, Doctor, shut up," River said, agreeing with the Time Lady before the three of them began to run out of the apartment and as they began to leave the room, they nearly ran into two Angels blocking the hall as the lights went out as the Angels were even closer than before as both Gallifreyans activated their sonic screwdrivers.
Rory and Amy ran down a staircase on the other side of the building before stopping when they ran into an Angel, who was blocking the way.
"Up!" Amy ordered her husband.
"What good's up?" Rory asked her with confusion in his voice.
"Better than down," Amy explained as they turned back around and ran back up the stairs.
Back on the third floor, the Doctor used his sonic screwdriver to keep the light on as they were surrounded by Angels as Rose was using hers against one of the Angels to break their quantum lock mechanism.
"I can't keep doing this," the Doctor told Rose and River.
"Me neither," Rose said, agreeing with him.
As Rose continued to use her screwdriver on one of the Angels, its usual steady hum began to into a high-pitched whine. Sparks flew from the Gallifreyan device as it fizzled for a split second with smoke beginning to curl from it.
The Time Lady stared at the now useless device in her right hand as it became too hot to the touch as she dropped it with a sense of dream filling her.
"I can't believe it… After all these years, all these adventures… My trusty sonic, gone. It's been with me for nearly a thousand years," Rose muttered to herself with shock in her voice "It's more than just a tool, it's a part of me. But we can't let this stop us."
"Rose, I know how much that sonic meant to you. But remember, it's not the end. The TARDIS made me a new one after I regenerated into this me, and she'll do the same for you," the Doctor reminded her, "It won't be the same case, but it will be yours. And who knows? It may even have a few new tricks up its sleeve. So, chin up. We've got a paradox to solve and Angels to outwit."
"Thanks, Doctor. I know it's just a tool, but it's been with me through so much. I appreciate your words. And who knows, maybe the new one will be even better," Rose said, agreeing with him before she placed her right hand over her stomach, "Although, I have a feeling that a new sonic screwdriver won't be the only new addition we'll be dealing with soon, you know, how I've been feel at times over the past few weeks."
"Anyways, do either of you have any ideas?" River asked both Gallifreyans.
"Yeah, the usual," the Doctor answered, "Run."
"I had the exact same thought," Rose said, agreeing with him before they ran away from the angels.
Rory burst through the door and onto the building's roof before he looked around for a way down as standing behind him was the Statue of Liberty and looked like one of the Angels with its teeth bared as Amy followed and closed the door behind her with her right hand.
The Doctor, Rose and River ran down the hall towards the door at the end. The Time Lord opened it onto the staircase. He then looked down and saw Angels blocking the way before he ran back into the hallway.
"Uh, okay, fire escape," the Doctor told them as he grabbed Rose's left hand with his right hand and River's right hand with his left hand and pulled them away.
"I always wanted to visit the Statue of Liberty," Rory stated as he had turned around with Amy standing next to him as they saw the Statue of Liberty standing next to the building from behind and looming over the roof with its mouth open as he panted, "I guess she got impatient." He then tugged on her right arm with both of his hands and ran over to the edge.
"What?" Amy asked him, "What is it? What?"
"Just keep your eyes on that!" Rory ordered her as he leaned over the side of the building.
"Is there a way down?" Amy asked him.
"Uh...no," Rory answered, nervously as he saw the traffic passing down below, "But there's a way out."
"What are you doing?" Amy asked him as unbeknownst to her, he climbed onto the ledge of the building.
"Oh," Rory muttered as he tried to regain his balance.
"Rory, what are you doing? "Amy asked her husband before she turned around towards him and saw what he was attempting to do, "Rory." She then walked over towards him, "Stop it! You'll die."
"Yeah. Twice," Rory confirmed, "In the same building on the same night. Who else could do that?"
"Just come down, please," Amy pleaded with him.
"This is the right thing to do. This will work. If I die now, it's a paradox, right? The paradox will kill the Angels," Rory told her, "Tell me I'm wrong. Go on, please, because I am really scared." Amy didn't respond to what he asked her, "Great. The one time you can't manage it." Amy then cried as Rory lost his balance and nearly fell off the ledge, only for Amy to reach for him, but he regained his balance again.
"Oh, God," Amy muttered to herself.
"Amy. I'm going to…need a little help here," Rory told her as he reached out for her and took her left hand with both of his hands and placed them over his chest before he threw his arms out to his sides.
"No. Just stop it!" Amy ordered him as she grabbed his shirt into her left fist.
"No, just think it through. This will work," Rory stated, "This will kill the Angels."
"It will kill you, too," Amy added.
"Will it?!" Rory retorted, "River said that this place would be erased from time, never exist. If this place never existed, what did I fall off?"
"You think you'll just come back to life?" Amy said with disbelief in her voice.
"When don't I?" Rory asked her, recalling the times he's died and come back to life in their travels with the Doctor and Rose.
"Rory," Amy muttered to herself.
"And, anyway, what else is there?" Rory asked her, rhetorically, "Dying of old age downstairs, never seeing you again. Amy, please. If you love me, then trust me and push."
"I can't," Amy told him.
"You have to!" Rory stated.
"Could you?" Amy asked him, "If it was me, could you do it?"
"To save you, I could do anything," Rory answered as he looked at her.
Amy then let go of Rory's shirt and climbed up to stand beside him on the ledge.
"Prove it," Amy urged him.
"No, I can't take you, too," Rory protested.
"You said we'd come back to life," Amy reminded him, "Money where your mouth is time."
"Amy, you…" Rory began to protest again.
"Shut. Up," Amy urged him as she put his hands over her waist, "Together. Or not at all."
"What the hell are you doing?!" The Doctor demanded as he, Rose and River climbed up onto the roof from the building's fire escape.
"Like he said, what in the name of Rassilon are you two doing?!" Rose said, agreeing with her husband.
"Changing the future," Amy explained before she ran her right hand along the right side of Rory's face, "It's called marriage." The two of them then fell over the side of the building with their eyes on each other.
"Amy!" The Doctor yelled as he and Rose ran over to the side of the ledge.
"Amy! Rory! No!" Rose called out to them as she looked over the side of the ledge.
"Amy!" The Doctor yelled again as he also looked over the side, "Amy!"
Amy and Rory both continued to fall down from the building with their arms wrapped around each other.
Back on the roof, the Doctor and Rose both watch their friends as they continued to fall to their death. Just then River noticed a light beginning to surround them and the building as the air around them as the air began to fluctuate.
"Doctor! Rose!" River called out to both Gallifreyans before they turned around from the ledge as he took River's left hand with his right hand and Rose's right hand with his left hand, "What's happening?!"
"The paradox, it's working," the Doctor answered, "The paradox is working!"
"Molto bene!" Rose said with relief in her voice, "Not much longer till the paradox overrides the original paradox." The light around them then suddenly got brighter before surrounding them in an explosion.
Back at the cemetery in 2012, Rory and Amy both sat up with a gasp in front of two of the graves.
"Where are we?" Rory asked her.
"Back where we started!" The Doctor explained as he and Rose arrived behind them, causing both humans to stand back up and look at them, "You collapsed the timeline. The paradox worked. We all pinged back where we belong."
"And not a moment too soon," Rose added with relief in her voice, "You two gave us quite a scare. But you did it. You broke free from the Angels' grasp."
"What? In a graveyard?" Rory said with disbelief in his voice.
"This happened last time," Amy recalled, "Why always here?"
"Does it matter? We got lucky! We could've blown New York off the planet," the Doctor told them, "We can't ever take the TARDIS back there. The timelines are too scrambled." He then sighed in relief, "Oh, We could've lost you both." He then hugged them both in a group hug, "Oh. Don't ever do that again."
"Like he said, don't either of you do that again," Rose stated, agreeing with her husband.
"What did we do?" Rory asked them with confusion in his voice, "We fixed it. We solved the problem."
"I was talking to myself," the Doctor told him before he kissed them both on their head and walked away.
"So was I," Rose said, agreeing with him as she followed him as Amy and Rory laughed to each other, "And now that we've dealt with the Weeping Angels, I think it's time for the TARDIS to make me a new sonic screwdriver. And while I'm at it, there are a few… personal tests I need to run as well. Just to make sure everything's in order."
"Of course, Rose. The TARDIS will have a new sonic ready for you in no time. And as for the personal tests, take all the time you need," the Doctor told her as they approached the TARDIS, "Remember, it's important to take care of yourself too, especially everything we've been through. If you need any assistance or if there's anything you want to talk about, you know I'm here for you."
"I know," the Time Lady replied as she opened the TARDIS' doors and entered the ship.
As Rose entered the TARDIS, she closed the doors behind her and walked towards the console as it made a sound with a screwdriver emerging from it coloured turquoise and gold with pink at the end and its casing resembling the Doctor's, especially with its claw. She grabbed it with her right hand and removed it from the console before extending it as he activated it with a smile on her face.
"Thanks, old girl," Rose muttered as she placed her new sonic screwdriver in her jacket's pocket, "Now, that's settled. Let's run those tests."
The Time Lady then walked around the console and clicked a few switches around it with her right hand. She then approached one of the devices around the console that appeared similar to the telepathic circuit and placed her hands over it.
"Let's see if my suspicions are correct," Rose sighed as she closed her eyes for a second as the scanner above her began flickering between positive and negative before finally stopped, causing her to smile to herself.
Outside the TARDIS, River and the Doctor were standing around it with the Doctor wiping it down as River held a bucket in her left hand.
"It could do with a repaint," River stated.
"Me and Rose have both been busy," the Doctor told her.
"Does the bulb on top need changing?" River asked him.
"Just changed it," the Doctor answered.
"So, Rory and Amy, then," River told him.
"I know, River," the Doctor muttered to himself, "And so does Rose."
"I'm just saying, they're going to get terribly bored, hanging round here all day," River explained as Amy and Rory began walking over to them.
"Doctor," Amy called out to the Time Lord.
"Ha!" The Doctor laughed.
"Next time, can we just go to the pub?" Rory asked him.
"I want to go to the pub right now," the Doctor told them, "Are there videogames there? I love videogames."
Just as he said that, the TARDIS' door suddenly opened back up with Rose walking back out and closing it back shut behind her.
"The four of you won't believe what I just found out," Rose told them, causing everyone to look at her.
"What is it, Rose?" The Doctor asked her.
"I just found out that I'm a few weeks pregnant," Rose answered, causing everyone to smile at her.
"Rose, that's… that's fantastic news!" The Doctor said, happily, "I'm… we're going to be parents again!"
"Yeah, aside from when we went to Mesaline with Martha and Donna, we haven't been ones since we lived on Gallifrey," Rose said, agreeing with him.
"Well, that's a surprise," River told the Time Lord couple, "Congratulations, you two."
"Thanks, River," Rose replied as she smiled at her.
"Wow, Rose, that's amazing!" Amy told the Time Lady, "Congratulations!"
"Like she said, that's wonderful, Rose," Rory said, agreeing with his wife.
"Thank you both," Rose replied as they walked up towards the TARDIS.
"Right, family or in this case friendly outing, then," River muttered as she, Rose and the Doctor reentered the TARDIS with Amy following them as Rory walked back and found the gravestone bearing his name.
"Amy!" Rory called out to his wife as he looked at her, "Come see this."
"What?" Amy asked him as he stepped back out of the TARDIS.
"There's a gravestone here for someone with the same name as me," Rory told her.
"What?" Amy said with disbelief in her voice when an Angel that was standing behind Rory suddenly touched him, causing him to disappear, "Doctor! Rose!"
"Ah," the Doctor muttered as he, Rose and River came rushing out of the TARDIS and were shocked to see the Weeping Angel.
"Where the hell did that come from?" River asked them.
"It's probably a survivor," Rose surmised.
"You're right, Love. It's a survivor," the Doctor said as he pulled out his sonic screwdriver with his right hand and scanned the Angel with it, "Very weak, but keep your eyes on it."
"Where's Rory?" Amy asked them.
The Doctor slowly walked forward as he noticed that the Angel was pointing at the gravestone that Rory was referring to before he vanished before he looked at the gravestone and saw Rory's name as well as the words 'Aged 82.'
"Oh, Rassilon," Rose muttered to herself as she followed the Doctor's gaze and looked at the gravestone.
"I'm sorry, Amelia," the Doctor apologised to Amy, "I'm so, so sorry."
"Like he said, I'm sorry, Amelia," Rose said, agreeing with him, "But the Angel sent him back again."
"No. No, we can just go and get him in the TARDIS," Amy said with disbelief in her voice, "One more paradox."
"Would rip New York apart and we-" the DOctor began to say.
"No, that's not true," Amy told him, "I don't believe you."
"He's right, and not just the city, but the surrounding area like Ellis Island and the rivers," Rose stated, confirming what the Doctor was going to say.
"And Mother, it's true," River muttered, tearfully, agreeing with the Time Lady.
With shuddering breaths, Amy then began walking towards the Angel.
"Amy? What are you doing?" The Doctor asked her and Rose's ginger companion.
"Like he said, what are you doing, Amy?" Rose said, agreeing with him.
"That gravestone, Rory's, there's room for one more name, isn't there?" Amy asked them.
"What are you talking about?" The Doctor inquired as he and Rose began heading for the TARDIS and reached for Amy's right hand with his left hand as they walked past her, "Back away from the Angel. Come back to the TARDIS! We'll figure something out!"
"He's right, we'll figure this all out!" Rose said, agreeing with him.
"The Angel, would it send me back to the same time, to him?" Amy asked them.
"I don't know," the Doctor answered, "Nobody knows."
"Like he said, nobody knows for sure, Amy," Rose stated, agreeing with her husband, "When we and Martha were sent back to 1969 by the Weeping Angels, it was just by chance that all ended up in the same place and time. It's not something we could control or predict."
"But it's my best shot, yeah?" Amy asked them as she took a step closer towards the Angel.
"No!" The Doctor yelled as he rose his hands in a vain attempt to stop her.
"Like he said, no!" Rose exclaimed, agreeing with her husband, "Amy, it's too dangerous. We can't predict where or when the Angel will send you. It's not a risk worth taking."
"Doctor, Rose, shut up!" River ordered both Gallifreyans, "Yes, yes, it is!"
"Amy-" both Gallifreyans began to say.
"Well, then, I just have to blink, right?" Amy asked them.
"No!" The Doctor protested.
"It's too risky!" Rose said, agreeing with her husband.
"It'll be fine," Amy assured them, "I know it will. I'll… I'll be with him, like I should be. Me and Rory, together. Melody?" She then held her left hand out behind her.
"Stop it!" The Doctor ordered River as he turned towards her, "Just, just stop it!"
"Please, Amy!" Rose pleaded with her and the Doctor's ginger companion, "Don't do this. We can find another way. We always do."
"You look after them with Jack," Amy ordered River as the archeologist took her left hand with her own right hand, "And you be a good girl and look after them with him." River then kissed the palm of Amy's left hand.
"You are creating a fixed time," the Doctor stated, "We will never be able to see you again."
"Like he said, you're creating a fixed-point, Amy," Rose said as tears began falling from her eyes as she began crying, "We won't be able to see you again. Please, reconsider."
"I'll be fine," Amy assured them, "I'll be with him."
"Amy, please," the Doctor urged her as he began crying as well, "Just come back into the TARDIS. Come on, Pond, please."
"Amelia, listen to us," Rose insisted, her voice choked with emotion, "We care about you. We don't want to lose you. Please, step away from the Angel. There's always another way."
"Raggedy man and Rose, goodbye," Amy said as she turned around towards both Gallifreyans as she disappeared.
The Doctor broke down and began crying as the gravestone now had new writing on it with the words 'And his Loving Wife Amelia Williams, Aged 87.'
"No!" The Doctor yelled with anger in his voice.
"Amelia…" Rose whispered, her voice barely audible and eyes fixed on the gravestone, "She's really gone." She then turned towards her husband, tears streaming down her face, "We couldn't save her."
The Doctor bent over in anguish before standing, sobbing, looking at the place where Amy last stood as River went over to him and put her right hand around his back in a comforting manner as Rose did the same with her left hand as tears continued to fall down from her eyes and sniffed her nose.
A while later inside the TARDIS, River was at the console controls as the Doctor and Rose sat on ascending stairs, grieving and next to each other. Rose's left hand rested gently and slightly smiled at herself for being a few weeks pregnant. In her right hand, she idly tossed her new sonic screwdriver a few inches into the air, catching it deftly as it landed in her hand, it was a habit she picked up from the Doctor's last incarnation when she regenerated into her current body. Despite the grief that hung in the air, a faint glimmer of hope sparked in her eyes as she thought of the future.
"River," the Doctor said as he looked up at the archeologist, "They were your parents. Sorry. I didn't even think."
"I'm sorry, too, River," Rose said, agreeing with her husband as she stopped tossing her new sonic screwdriver in her hand and placed it back in her jacket's pocket, "I didn't even think as well."
"It doesn't matter," River told both Gallifreyans.
"Of course it matters," the Doctor stated.
"Yeah, of course it matters," Rose muttered, agreeing with him, "They were your parents, River. They will always matter."
"What matters is this, Doctor and Rose," River said as she looked at them, "Once your child is born, don't travel with just each other and your child."
"Get your husband and have you and him travel with us, then," the Doctor told her.
"Like he said, get Jack and travel with us," Rose said, agreeing with her husband, her voice filled with warmth, "Once our child is born, we'd love to have you both on board. You and Jack could be like an aunt and uncle to them. It would be wonderful to have a family around."
"Whenever and wherever you both want, but not all the time," River told them, "One psychopath per TARDIS, don't you both think?" She then set the TARDIS in motion before facing them, "Okay, this book I've got to write, Melody Malone. I presume I send it to Amy to get it published?"
"Yes. Yes," the Doctor confirmed.
"Yeah, send it to Amy for publishing," Rose said, agreeing with her husband, "It'll be a fitting tribute for her and Rory."
"I'll tell her to write an afterword. For the two of you," River sighed as she walked past them, "Maybe you both will listen to her. And once I'm done, I'll return to Jack. I borrowed his vortex manipulator for this, and I need to give it back." She then left the console room as both Gallifreyans were left with each other to deal with their grief.
"The last page," the Doctor muttered as he suddenly remembered the page of the book that he ripped out back at Central Park.
"Amy must have done as River suggested and sent us a message," Rose realised as they exchanged a look.
In Central Park, the Doctor and Rose both ran across Bow Bridge to the area where they had picnicked earlier with Amy and Rory. He grabbed the last page out of the basket with both of his hands before they walked towards one of the park benches across the Mall and sat down on it. As they sat together, Rose gently leaned her head on the Doctor's left shoulder and intertwined her right hand's fingers with his left hand's fingers.
"'Afterword, by Amelia Williams. Hello, old friends,'" the Doctor said, reading the last page, "And here we are, you both and me, on the last page. By the time you read these words, Rory and I will be long gone. So know that we lived well and were very happy." He then put on Amy's glasses, "And, above all else, know that we will love you both always. Sometimes I do worry about the two of you, though. I think, once we're gone, neither of you will be coming back here for a while and you both will be with each other and your child, which you two should never be. Don't be alone, Doctor and Rose with only your child. And do two more things for me. Depending on the gender of your child, when naming them, consider giving them a middle name after one of us. A little piece of us, carried forward in time with you both. It would mean the world to us, knowing that we're still a part of your lives, even if it's just in name." Also, there's a little girl waiting in a garden." The two of them then gave two small smiles, "She's going to wait a long while, so she's going to need a lot of hope. Go to her. Tell her a story. Tell her that, if she's patient, the days are coming that she'll never forget. Tell her she'll go to sea and fight pirates. She'll fall in love with a man who'll wait 2,000 years to keep her safe. And that Rose, will be with him to keep her safe as well. Tell her she'll give hope to the greatest painter who ever lived and save a whale in outer space. Tell her this is the story of Amelia Pond, and this is how it ends."
A while later back inside the TARDIS, the Doctor had Amy's or now his glasses removed from his eyes and ran around the console to work the controls with Rose standing by his side.
"Doctor, I've been thinking about what Amy said in her message. About naming our child," Rose muttered as she turned towards him and placed her right hand over her abdomen, "Depending on the gender, maybe we could give them a middle name after Amy or Rory. It would be a nice way to remember them, don't you think?"
"Arkytior," the Doctor said, softly, using her name from when they went to the Academy on Gallifrey as he reached out, gently touching her right hand with his left hand, "That's a wonderful idea. A fitting tribute to our dear friends. We'll do just that."
