Disclaimer: This is my first fanfiction ever, so yes, I know this might not be great, but I'll be learning along the way. I know other stories have tried Naruto as a Claymore, but this is my attempt, so don't roast me too hard y'all.

If you have any advice or ideas for future use, please put them down in the reviews, as well as any future pairings or powers/abilities. I'm open to criticism as well.

In this story, I do plan on fully making Naruto a claymore, so I would rather him not use chakra or have Kurama. Also, lemons will probably be rare or none at all, as I have no experience writing them, though if this fanfic continues, I'll go with the flow and figure something out.

I also plan on keeping chapters short and in parts, as I am really busy in school. However, each part will continue the last chapter, so don't worry.

Chapter 3: The Road to Doga Pt 3

Last time on Naruto the Kind: Our number 48 finally makes his way into Doga, greeting Raki and the village chief John in the process. He finds out his target is a group of three Yoma that specifically attack single parents; he then is given information about an orphanage, where he decides to conduct an investigation seeking to learn more information. He is now on his way to meet a kid at the Orphanage named Ernst, whose parent is a recent victim of the Yoma.

After his recent conversation with John, the village chief, Naruto is on his journey to St. Clare's orphanage, which is around 20 minutes west of the village center, through a more abandoned part of town. On his way towards the orphanage, Naruto's surroundings become run down. It is clear that the rest of the village has let this side of the village fall into disrepair, though Naruto has no idea why. As he walked down this area, he saw homeless people seemingly starving and struggling. Naruto was surprised at this as the other side of the village he had just left was much better off than this side was, but he had no idea why once again. Naruto then decides to stop, spots and begins to walk toward a young woman with her child. Both of them were seemingly malnourished. The woman was aged around, if he could guess, 30, around 5'6 ft, with blond hair and green eyes.

Naruto then begins to speak up, "Miss, are you alright? The village chief had said the Yoma I'm after has been attacking single parents at this time." The woman responds, "Yes, as fine as I can be. We have been struggling here for many weeks after I was kicked out of the establishment where I worked." Naruto responds, "Where were you working? You seem to be unfazed by the comment about the Yomas." The woman responds, "I was working at the nearby brothel down the road, though they kicked me out for some random reason. I ain't worried about no yoma; I gotta figure it out for my little boy and me here."

Naruto is a little surprised and responds, "You aren't worried about Yoma? Aren't you scared for your little one there? His life." She responds, "No, I'm not worried about Yoma out here; there haven't been any attacks in this part of the village in a long time." Naruto surprised by this information, responds, "Yoma not attacking a specific area? Would you maybe have an idea of why any Yoma in particular wouldn't come around here?"

The woman responds, "Yes, I don't have much better to do, so I suppose I can tell if you spare some bera. It'll be a little bit of story if you have time to listen." Naruto responds, ready to listen, "Yes, I can spare a bit, Miss; I am conducting an investigation on the Yoma on a spree here, so I'll need every little bit of information I can get."

The woman responds, "Very well, the stories say a claymore came many years ago, around 50 years ago, I'd say; she was much more brutal than claymores we had encountered in that she smiled when she killed Yoma like a crazy smile." She continued, "The village had hired her from the organization to do a job at the time, as there were multiple yoma running rampant. When we saw her, we immediately knew she would be in trouble; she had that look in her eyes. The type of crazy look, you know?"

She goes on, "The yoma at the time stayed in this part of the village and killed many here, slaughtering seemingly for sport; however, we knew when she arrived, it would only get worse. She would eventually come to slaughter those yoma, though while they died, they said something about her aura and how it had tainted the land forever." She goes further, saying, "That claymore had an aura about her; everyone could feel it, even us humans; anything around her, including emotions or events, were soured. Ever since that claymore had left the area, the place went to shit; everything bad you can name went wrong here fires, deaths, loss of fortunes, anything you can name. Eventually, over time, this whole area of town became pretty much abandoned by the rest of the village."

Naruto responds, "Hmm, a claymore tainting a place forever with their aura? I have never heard of it personally. Any reason if this place is so tainted you are staying here?" The woman responds, "Well, for one, the yoma refuse to step foot here, and for the second, they won't allow me into the other side of the village as they consider me "dirty." Naruto responds, "Hmm, I might be able to get you back into the other side of town, though until I kill this yoma, I'd rather you stay here. Many consider me a monster, too, so I understand you a little bit. Are there any inns or taverns in this part of town I could bring you to?"

The woman, surprised with a raised eyebrow, responds, "A claymore helping a human? What is in it for you, hmm?" Naruto responds, "Well, I see your situation, and I see a mother who is currently struggling. Yes, I am a claymore, but I think it helps me to keep what little bit of humanity I have left by helping others. I also have made a personal goal to protect humanity in any way I can even when others consider you "dirty"." The woman, satisfied with his answer, responds, "Ya know, with those few words, I see more of a human in you than I do in those on the other side of the village. You don't seem like the stereotypical claymore to me, you know?"

Naruto responds smiling, "Well, thank you, miss, I appreciate you saying that. However, I do have to get back to my investigation soon. Could you guide me to the location of any inns or taverns? I wouldn't mind bringing you there and setting you up for a few nights." The woman responds, "Yes, the closest inn is about a block from the village orphanage." Naruto perks up, knowing that is the location he needs to go to, saying, "St. Clare's Home, right? That was actually the location I was heading to in particular." The woman responds, "Yes, that is the place." Naruto responds, "Good, let's get going then."

The woman responds, "One small issue: I haven't been able to walk. I was messed up pretty badly when I got fired from the brothel. I'm pretty malnourished, and so I have been struggling to walk from my injuries not healing well." Naruto, walking towards the woman and proceeding to pick her up, responds, "No worry, I can carry you the way there. Just hold your child tight, and we will be off. Just guide me the way we should go." The woman, at this point, blushing a little bit from being picked up, holds her child tight and responds, "Ok, Mr. Claymore, just head further straight for about 10 minutes." Naruto responds, smiling, "The name is Naruto. What is yours?" The woman responds, " Nora."

With this, the trio are on their way to the Inn; they eventually arrive at the inn named The Hidden Gem. An ironic name considering the shabby look of the outside; this place could most definitely need a fix-up if it even wanted to remain standing for more years, considering it looked like it wanted to fall apart. Though once inside, the aura of a comfortable place could be felt as a homey type of vibe for sure. Everyone in the inn becomes silent, turning to see the large silver-eyed witch among them, and their eyes widen. Naruto begins walking through the door and towards the innkeeper carrying Nora, who in turn is carrying her child.

Naruto speaks up, "Innkeeper, any rooms available?" Weirdly enough, for a place in such an abandoned part of the city, this place was packed. It seemed there would definitely be no rooms available. However, the barkeep speaks up, "Yes, claymore, we have a room available, two beds with access to the bath. Would you want it?" Naruto speaks up, dropping a pretty hefty bag of bera on the counter, "Yes, I'll take it and make sure to bring a couple of meals up as well, would you?"

The barkeep, shocked as this was way too much money, speaks up, "Sir, this is too much money for the room!" Naruto responded blankly, "Well, I plan on staying for a little bit, so this should cover it completely. Would you mind leading us to our room, please, sir?" The innkeeper nods, now leading Naruto, still carrying Nora, towards their room, opening the door and speaking up, "This is the room, sir; I hope it is to you and your woman's liking." Nora blushed, and Naruto responded laughing, "No Sir, this is just a new friend, I assure you." The Innkeeper, going back downstairs, not wanting to anger the scary-looking warrior, apologizes and speaks up, "I will run and get the food that you requested, sir!"

Naruto speaks up, asking, "Well, will this be enough for you and the boy for the night?" Nora responded, "Of course, Naruto, this might be too much, honestly. You know I won't be able to repay you, sir?" Naruto responds, "That is fine. I did say I'd put you up somewhere for a little bit, and here we are. Though I am afraid I have to get back to work, Miss Nora." Nora responds, "Thank you, Naruto; I really am thankful. Will you be back?" Naruto responds, "I will be back, I assure you, Nora, though I do have to find this yoma before they kill more people. I have an investigation to get to. I'm giving you some more bera. Spend it the way you see fit." Naruto then proceeds to drop another bag of bera, which is a little lighter than the one before and then proceeds to leave. Nora was surprised again.

She quietly spoke, "I wish you luck, friend; come back safe." With this, the innkeeper brings up the paid meals, walking up the stairs, and speaking out loud, "Well, Miss, here are the meals; I hope you like them! Where has your Claymore friend gone?" Nora responds, "He will return. It seems he will be taking care of the village Yoma problem." Nora then begins to dig into the food, taking care of her child, and eventually, the two fall asleep.

With that, we get back to Naruto, who is exiting the inn and on his way toward 's Home, which is about a block away. He eventually finds the building a rundown-looking home made of wood, with a statue flanking both sides of the double door entrance. A large name plaque above the entrance etched 's Home. The statues are the twin goddesses Clare and Teresa, who are seen as symbols of love. Fitting for an orphanage where children come to find a new home and love from new parents who hopefully adopt them. Naruto stops at the front of the building.

Naruto speaks up, looking up at the sign, "This seems to be the place; let me head on in." Proceeding towards the door and begins knocking, hoping to find someone willing to answer. A woman, seeming very old in her late 60s, proceeds to open the door. She is then very surprised to see a large male claymore standing in front of the orphanage. She then proceeds to say, "Hello, dear. A claymore that is very odd for you to be coming to a place like this. I thought you claymores were female. As well as how could we help you, sir?"

Naruto responds, "Well, ma'am, it seems my investigation of the current Yoma killings has brought me here. The organization made an exception with me. They seem to think of me as special, my handler tells me, though I doubt that." The elderly woman, ignoring the second part of the statement, responds, "A claymore investigating an Orphanage? How would this place have any of the answers you seek? The only thing we have here are children without families." Naruto responds, "Well, these yoma, in particular, have been targeting single parents on the other side of town; these children of the families are then brought here after the tragedy." The woman sadly responds, "Yes, it truly is a sad time; we have had many children brought here these last few weeks. What would I be able to help you with, Mr. Claymore?"

Naruto responds, "Well, it seems the village chief has pointed me here. I suppose I am looking for a child by the name of Ernst. Would he be here by any chance?" The woman responds, "Yes, Ernst is here, though he isn't doing so well; he lost his mother recently to this yoma and has isolated himself." Naruto, understanding the child, responds, " Victims of the yoma tend to isolate themselves after events like these. It's sad, truly. I understand the boy's emotions; I lost my own parents to Yoma. It is one of the reasons I became a claymore to stop others from this suffering."

The woman responds, "Yes, he is struggling. Would you like me to take me to him? And you chose to become a claymore? Why would you put yourself through the scrutiny of others? You know as well as I do many consider you a monster?" Naruto responds, "Well, yes, please take me to him. I have some questions for him. Yes, I had somewhat of a choice to become a claymore, and I took it. I realized from my own experiences that I would want to save others from the suffering I have endured by attempting to eradicate the yoma menace. I'd rather be hated by those very civilians than to see another civilian die because of my further inaction."

The woman, accepting Naruto's answer, responds, "Very well, Claymore, I'll take you to the boy. Do try not to scare the boy; he has already been through enough. I hope this can help you gain a little bit of information for your investigation. You also seem to have a good head on your shoulders, claymore." Naruto responds, "Well, let us get to it. The longer we wait, the higher the potential there is for more to die. Thank you; others have said the same."

As the duo walked through 's, Naruto saw many children suffering with sad and pained looks on their faces. They had lost their loved ones, and now many seemed hopeless and pained. These looks remind him of the looks his fellow claymores had during their conversion into warriors. This brings back memories of Naruto's training and interaction with his other warrior friends.

Flashback to Naruto's training days

Naruto was unique as he was the singular male of the generation. The reason was a prophecy he was a part of, the organization kept telling him, though he doubted it. He knew the risks of being a male claymore; they were seen to awaken much quicker than females, and thus, male claymores weren't produced anymore, but the organization had assured him he was different. Naruto's training was like any other Claymore, though he trained his yoki control and sword handling double that of the other warriors; the organization had made sure of it. His training in yoki control had resulted in his eye being stuck in a permanent cat-like slit which was a bump in his training. Owing to the fact that he incorrectly controlled his yoki, a freak accident occurred.

Moving on, though, Naruto, after his training, would spend his time with his fellow warriors, where he had earned the nickname The Kind. He walked through the housing facility the warriors were contained in and, while walking past them, saw the hopelessness on their faces, some with fear, others with anger, probably seeking revenge. He knew many of their stories, but still, he had not judged them. In fact, it brought him closer to the rest of his generation. Everyone knew his name; even if he was 48, the so-called weakest number of their organization, they still admired him for the little bit of humanity he put back into them in his conversations and his treatment of them. He treated them differently from the others who would be quick to call them monsters, and because of that, they were happy to call him a friend.

To him, all of his generation were his friends; however, in particular, he got along with Number 6 Phantom Miria, Number 3 God-eye Galatea, Number 46 Elena, and Number 8 Windcutter Flora rather well. Surprisingly, Ophelia, the blood-soaked, seemed obsessed with him, which he knew he would have to answer to later on. After finishing their warrior training, this group of friends had planned to meet back up in the future, though only time would tell if this were to come true.

However, out of their group, Elena would be missing. Hanz, his handler before this assignment, had handed him a black card; Naruto knew what this meant as he was tasked with ending Elena, who had given her black card to him. It seemed Elena had awakened before they could have their reunion, and he knew he had the task of her taking her life, though this would be handled later on after this mission. He would be dreading that moment, surely.

Back to Reality

We come back to Naruto and the old woman walking through the orphanage, and the woman begins to stop in front of the child, pointing at him. She begins to speak, "This is Ernst, the child you were looking for. Make sure to be nice to him and try not to ask too many questions. You know he isn't in a great state currently." Naruto speaks up, "Thank you, ma'am; I'll let you get back to work. How are you doing, Ernst? I'm just here to ask you a few questions." With that, the old woman leaves, and Naruto and the child strike up a conversation.

Ernst responds blankly, having no thoughts in his eyes, "Yes, sir? Would it be about my mother's death? I would assume, with the sword on your back, you are going to help." Naruto responds, the boy listening intently, "Yes, I have been hired to clear the yoma terrorizing this village, though it seems my first lead has led me to you. I'm sorry I wasn't there to save your mother, kid; I know the feeling of losing parents myself." Ernst speaks up sadly, with clear tears in his eyes, "Yes sir, I miss my mother dearly. Those monsters killed her straight in front of me and made watch before beating me till everything went black."

Ernst continued with a blank expression, "When I woke up, it seemed the village had decided to send me here with the other victims of the Yoma. All of us here are devastated, and we are fearful for our lives. What if the Yoma were to come back? What if they killed us next? Will you protect us?" Naruto responds, assuring the boy, "Don't worry, kid, I WILL get rid of these yoma I assure you. I will keep all of you safe even if it results in my death."

Ernst responds, happy with his answer, "Really, sir, you would do that for us? You don't know any of us?" Naruto responded, "It is my job to eliminate yoma, and I have made it my personal mission to protect humans in any way I can, even if I have to go the extra mile." Naruto, with a thumbs-up and a smile, continues, "Don't worry. I'm built strong, and I can handle anything these yoma throw at me." Ernst responds, "Well, sir, what exactly would you need of me? I'm just a child, so I won't be much help physically, but I can help give you details if need be." Naruto responds, "I don't need any physical help, kid. I'll take care of it, but I will need you to relive some of the memories of your mother's death. Can you do that?"

Ernst, sad, knowing he has to retell an account of his mother's murder, responds, "Yes sir, it was a night clear as day, the moonlight lighting up outside as we walked together. My mother and I had just left a local store to pick up some food for supper." Ernst continues, "We had been walking through an alleyway when we saw three homeless-looking men on the ground begging for money. At this time, the streets were empty, but we had seen these men before. My mother had decided to give money to these men; she was commonly seen as charitable, and that's when it happened."

Ernst further continues with a sad look, becoming angry, "That when it happened, the men had transformed into terrible beasts these yoma, as you say. They began to tear my mother apart, looking happy as they did it! What kind of monster is happy while killing someone so giving?" Naruto responds, "Yoma are terrible monsters, kid, a true blight on the land; that is why people like me exist to get rid of them. Yoma can do truly terrible things while wearing a smile; it's truly angering, but I will get justice for you, kid. Do you have any more details that could help?" Ernst responded, "No, I am afraid, sir; after I watched the scene unfold, they began beating me up laughing until I fell asleep."

Naruto, handing the kid a bera and pulling out a map of the village he found, responds, "Hmm, alright, kid, take a bera. Thanks for the help. I gotta get going it seems to be nearing night; I might be able to catch them if I am quick enough. I will be back, I assure you. Would you have any friends in the other part of the village?" Ernst, pointing to a spot on the map, responds, "Yes sir, his name is Adam. He lives in this place right here; he and his dad walk around during the night." Naruto's eyes widened, and he made his way out of the orphanage; knowing this could lead him straight to the Yoma, he began running to the point the boy picked.

With this, we move on to the end of the investigation and into combat in the next chapter.
