Our Future
Grabbing her planner from the table, Regina looked into the mirror and held it against her chest. Sucking in a sharp breath before exhaling. Their wedding was only a few months away and slowly everything was coming together. She still hadn't talked to Emma about her conversation with her mother from months ago considering she'd been watching Emma struggle slightly and behind the curtains herself as well. Regina had decided today she was going to talk to her and probably was best to do it today before their wedding coordinator came over.
Coming up behind her Emma leaned in and kissed Regina's cheek, "You okay? You look nervous about something." She brushed her hand over Regina's entangling their fingers together. "We have everything in order down to the smallest placement."
"I know, I'm excited and overjoyed that it's coming together so wonderfully. It's just… there's something I wanted to talk to you about but I just haven't been able to find the right words to describe what I'm feeling… and it's not about the wedding it's about after." Regina sucked back another deep breath while turning to face Emma. Her fingers clamped tightly over the binder.
Tilting her head confused, her brows furrowed and lips rubbing together. "What's there to talk about? I've practically moved in already and we've been raising Henry together for a year now if not longer."
Closing her eyes tightly Regina blurted out, "Future children. I— I can't have any it's one of the other reasons why I adopted Henry." Her heart was racing and she couldn't bare to look at Emma to see her reaction. Slowly she peeked through her lashes without fully opening her lids.
Emma thrown back by Regina's concern couldn't help but smile and lean in against her, pressing their foreheads together. "It's alright. Honestly, I thought about it too and I don't ever want to carry another again since let's be real, I did not have a great experience while being in jail pregnant but… I did want to discuss that maybe we adopt another or…. Even two. After all, I was raised in foster care and I know how terrible it is, and if given the chance to save someone from that hell… who better to give them a home than us? If… that's alright with you."
Breath taken Regina's eyes opened slowly seeing Emma's beautiful soft smile. The tension she felt faded within seconds of hearing Emma's words. Setting down her binder she wrapped her arms around Emma's waist while giving her a soft passionate kiss. Tangling their tongues together. Caught in the romance that this wonderful understanding woman was to be her wife. Pulling away she smiled at her, "Emma, I'd love to have more children with you. And I think that's a wonderful idea and Henry would be an amazing brother. How long have you been thinking about this?"
Stroking her thumb over Regina's cheek and gliding it over her lips, "Since my mom told me she was pregnant. It got me thinking I want more myself and realized we obviously can't have any so we'd have to find a donor, I didn't want to get pregnant again… and I wasn't sure about you. Then it hit me, why not just give someone a better chance at a happy home? It makes me so happy and a little turned on right now that you would want the same. Regina, I didn't know you couldn't have any and I'm sorry… I'm sure all this with my mom," she bit down on her own lower lip giving Regina sad eyes, "I know it's hard on me but I can imagine how it is for you."
"It's been rough but you've needed me and now that we have had this talk I feel so much better. The envy and jealousy I had for your mom just dissipated. Don't get me wrong I know it'll resurface that it's an experience I'll never have, but, it's my fault." Regina admitted sadly.
Shaking her head thrown back from Regina's words, "Regina, don't say that. It happens, sometimes—"
Giving her another soft kiss Regina shook her head, "No, really it, it was my fault. I made a potion back after my mother had me marry Leopold that would make me infertile. So I honestly did do this to myself."
"Wouldn't there be a cure? I mean it was magic's doing after all." Emma looked deeply into Regina's sad brown eyes. "There is always a loophole or something. Isn't there?"
"No, my dear Swan, that isn't how that works. If that were the case soon as he died I would have reversed it. But it is permanent. And I'm okay with that. Because it got me Henry which led me to have you and our future together. So, please don't be sad for me." Regina pulled away and held onto Emma's hands, "We're going to still have a bigger family together and give children who feel unwanted a better life by giving them all our love."
Resisting the urge to cry Emma nodded while looking down at their hands. "You're right," she looked up to meet Regina's gaze. "We will. But first, we need to make it to our wedding and any moment now the coordinator will be here. So we need to make sure we have everything in check." She pulled away and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." Regina frowned reaching to hold her but Emma just inched away looking at her with a smile. "I promise you I'm okay and this will be the most amazingly wonderful wedding of our dreams."
"I know, I'm just a little emotional. Excited that this is happening. I never dreamed of a wedding for myself until you and I like our theme." She nearly forced a laugh but yet it was her being genuine.
Laughing, "I do too. What's better for us than the apple-cinnamon theme?" Regina winked picking up her binder after she wiped her tears from the corners of her eyes. "Your mother thought she was just teasing us but it fits perfectly to our relationship brand I thought."
"It also makes perfect sense for your always dreamed of fall wedding too." Emma beamed hearing the doorbell. Walking over to open it, hearing Regina's heels clicking against the tile behind her. "Apple cider and hot cocoa with cinnamon for drinks."
Her smile widened, "And French vanilla cake with cinnamon apple filling with a silky cream cheese frosting. The door opened and Regina nodded to the curly red-head woman that stood before them, "Welcome! Thank you so much for helping us put together our plans for the wedding. I am Regina Mills and this is my fiance Emma Swan. Please do come in." She gestured while stepping to the side, Emma moving with her.
"Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of this beautiful Swan-Mills wedding." She shut the door behind her, "You are in good hands my darlings. I will take great care of you."
"We had a lot of people want to help us but we felt it's nice to have someone that isn't so well acquainted with our families." Regina walked them all outside to the patio. "We wanted to have it in the backyard under my apple tree."
"I'm wickedly excited to be working with you. The apple tree is a perfect spot for the theme you chose." The woman walked around the tree her hand outstretched touching the bark as she circled it, "Yes, this will be magnificent. You wanted an arch in front of it covered in vines and flowers correct? I'm sure the floral shop can whip you up something perfect. A perfect about of greenery to help— make the apples shine if I do say so."
Emma watched the woman with curiosity, her arms folded over her chest. "Yeah, and some white chairs with fabric to spruce them up going towards the back of the house. I'm sorry, we never caught your name."
Regina nudged her, "She was recommended by—" She paused and blinked. "Yes, actually I can't recall who or how."
Turning to face them her ruby-red lips tightened in the corners as she smiled toothily. Clasping her hands together, "Zelena. And I was probably recommended to you by your newspaper. I did have an ad out." A light cackle escaped her. "Trust me, you will have a wedding you will never forget dears."
