Danny's POV

"Holy shit". Merle follows that with a breathy chuckle.

"I know right", I put my hands on either side of my stomach, "But don't swear, the baby can hear you".

"Its a real shame", I don't respond to Merle, instead I just stare down the hill towards the building at the bottom.

Merle and I have walked away from our vehicles after Merle saw a sign saying `Hitchhikers may be escaping inmates`. He convinced me to take a walk with him to see if we could see the prison. Was about a fifteen minute walk before we could see it in the distance. Thankfully that means Merle is satisfied with how close we are and isn't getting me to walk any further.

What's a shame?" Daryl doesn't need his question answered because as soon as he steps up beside me he can see for himself. "Huh".

I glance behind us but Carol and Sophia haven't come with him.

The prison below us is huge, the yard is completely fenced in but it's full of Walkers just ambling around in their prison get ups.

"Looks like it fell pretty early on", Daryl takes a couple of steps forward. "It would be perfect".

"Yeah" Merle scoffs, "But it ain't happenin'".

Daryl turns to face his brother rather sharply, "Why?"

"Why!" Merle gestures towards the building in the distance, "Because it's overrun by fuckin' Walkers".

The And? look Daryl gives Merle is the sassiest thing I've ever seen him do.

"Don't fuckin' look at me like that, ya lookin' at the same thing I am and there ain't no way we're gonna be able to clear that shithole."

"We could do it". Daryl looks at both of us in turn. "They're behind a fence, it'll be easy to pick them off. We just need a plan". He then just focuses on his brother, his eyes pleading. "We need somewhere safe, soon. So far everywhere we've stayed hasn't been enough. We don't have the option to keep lookin' anymore, we're nearly out of time".

He wants to do this for me and you know what, I'm gonna let him. If he thinks we can do it then so do I.

"I'm in".

"And I ain't, no. It's fuckin' batshit crazy. We still 'ave time, we can still look for somewhere else".

I sigh with a slight shake of the head. This is gonna turn into an argument and I'm not up for listening to it this time. I start walking backwards, "I'm just gonna head back to the car. Leave you two to it". Merle doesn't even acknowledge me but Daryl tilts his head at me to tell me he hears me.

I only walk for about a minute before I hear Merles raised voice behind me, I think this is gonna be a long fight and honestly I don't have a single clue on who's gonna win this one.

I finally make it back to where we left the vehicles. Sophia spots me first from her advantage point on the top of the cab. She waves at me which causes Carol to turn towards me.

"Five more minutes and Sophia and I were gonna drive off with the supplies". Carol follows it up with a full on smile.

"I'll come to. I'm ready when you are".

Carol is still smiling but it drops slightly. "What have they done?"

We definitely know each other well. "They're arguing."

She rolls her eyes as I finally stop beside her. "And what is it about this time".

"The prison. Daryl wants to try and secure it and Merle doesn't".

"Secure it?"

Right, she hasn't seen it. "All the prisoners are still inside, they're Walkers but it should mean that outside Walkers shouldn't be able to get inside so it could be a safe place to stay... If we can clear it".

Carol stares down the road in the direction of the prison as if she can see it.

"Go down there with Sophia," I think she needs to see it for herself. The decision to do this should be unanimous. "If you agree with Merle then I'll get Daryl to drop it and we move on".

"We can't leave you on your own".

"I'll get the rifle and I'll be fine. Just don't be gone too long". She stares at me without saying anything for a good while before sighing and nodding.

"Sophia, come with me we're gonna go check out the prison".

I know Daryl's idea to take the prison is crazy and reckless but if he fully believes that we can take that place then I'll believe him. He's right when he says we're running out of time. I don't have long left because we estimate that I'm already at 37 weeks which means this baby could come at any moment.

I can't give birth on the road nor do I want a place that can easily become unsafe at any given moment.

The four figures walking over the hump in the road are a big relief. Not gonna lie, I was starting to get a little nervous being out here by myself. Knowing my luck I'll go into labour with absolutely no one else around.

Daryl helps me step over our supplies before helping me down from the bed of the truck.

"What's happening?"

He glances at Merle over my head quickly. "He thinks it's impossible and that we shouldn't do it".

I sigh, of course.

"But he's willing to give it a go".

"Really?"

"Yeah, but the plan has to involve all scenarios".

"And do we have a plan?"

"The start of one".

He holds my hand as we move to the front of the truck where the others are standing.

Merle clears his throat. "Right, we do this then we don't divert from the plan". He doesn't go on and until we've all nodded our heads. "Good. We don't take our cars too close, by what we can see there is a fuckin' shit load of Walkers just out in the yard and we don't want to catch the attention of those that aren't in the fenced area. We don't know if the front gates are locked but if they are we cut a hole in the fence down the side. Danny you are our best shot, you take one of the towers, Carol you go to. The three of us stay on the ground". He takes a deep breath before letting it out rather loudly. "The rest of the plan depends on what we see when we get a bit closer. Need to use the binoculars to see what's actually going on in there".

"We also", all eyes turn on Daryl, "come up with an alternative plan once we can see everythin' just in case". Daryl looks up at the sky. "We have about three hours till night fall. We better go now".

Merle goes to walk round to the drivers side but I duck under his arm and block his way. "I'm driving otherwise I won't be feeling well".

He scoffs, "It's literally a two minute drive".

Sophia pops her head out the back window. "She got sick just sitting in the car the other day". Merle throws her a glare but she just smirks at me. "Sit behind him that way when you throw up it'll be on him".

"Good idea Soph, I'll do that", I take a step towards her and go to open the door. "Move over".

Merle's defeated sigh causes Sophia to laugh. "Fine". He then opens the drivers door to let me climb in.

I lower my rifle after staring through the sight to see what we're about to get ourselves into. A part of me, want's me to change my mind on attempting to do this.

Daryl is still staring through the binoculars and I fully believe he's thinking the same thing. The plan got a little more complicated, a little more dangerous. The inside gate that connects the yard to the actual prison is open so even if we cleared the yard, Walkers could just keep filling it up again. We have ammo, but not that much.

Someone has to make a run for the gate and that someone is Daryl, not that I would want any of them to do it.

Merle stuffs his gun into the waistband of his trousers and then picks up the bolt cutters. "I can't believe ya've roped me into this".

I give him the side eye, "This plan is your idea".

"Don't mean I want to do it".

"Your negative attitude is not going to help".

"Lets go". Daryl's instruction stops the no doubt sarcastic retort Merle was going to say back to me.

We take off at a slight jog, thankfully it seems I'm still able to manage it.

The front gate was once opened and closed by a push of a button so it sits on tracks, but now the only thing locking it in place is a chain which Merle awkwardly manages to cut off with the bolt cutters. Daryl having two hands would probably have been quicker at it but Merle's too proud to ask for help.

Once the gate is closed behind us Merle points at the tower he wants me to go up and the one he wants Carol to go up. They'll give us a great over view of the yard and the perfect advantage when it comes to covering Daryl.

Daryl puts his crossbow onto his back as I take out my handgun. He wraps his fingers around it but I don't release my grip.

"Tell me what you are going to do".

He holds up a set of climbing clips that are attached together with climbing rope. "I run up the path through the Walkers, with you coverin' me, I shut the gate and lock it before jumpin' into the tower next to it. We then clear the field".

"Sounds easy", Comes out rather sarcastically.

"Never said it was goin' to be easy".

"Can't you just say it'll be easy".

His lips twitch but he doesn't smile. "It'll be easy".

I roll my eyes with a sigh, "Yeah it's not the same when I know you're lying, please, just be careful."

"I will, I trust ya to have my back". He then dips his head down and kisses me. He doesn't let it deepen which I'm thankful for because then it doesn't feel like a possible goodbye. "Go".

I release my gun to him and hurry over to my assigned tower. I open the door but nothing comes out, I wait a couple of seconds but when I don't hear anything I take the few steps up before climbing the ladder and going through the hatch. A small bump comes in handy. Not sure they'd have let me do this if they new it didn't have actual stairs inside.

With my rifle resting against the barrier I watch as Sophia lets Daryl through the other gate, my heart picks up speed as he runs around an upturned inmate transport bus and then he's out in the open. I look through my sight and make sure every Walker that comes within 4 feet of him is put down.

He makes it to the gate as I shoot the Walker that's trying to get through it, he closes it and latches the clips into place. I only let my shoulders relax when the tower door closes behind him. He's safe.

When he emerges out the top he gestures for us to shoot at will.

The whole thing lasts about ten minutes but it's one of the longest ten minutes I've had in a long time.

I know there wasn't many changes in the way they took the prison yard, but honestly the plan they had in the episode wasn't a bad one and I feel like Daryl would have had part in that plan anyway.
