ASSASSIN'S LOVE

CHAPTER FOUR – NIGHTMARES

Since that day, Makoto hadn't seen Minako for three days in a row. She wondered if the blonde was purposely avoiding to see her or if she really had other work to do. In the room she was accompanied by another blonde, Usagi. For Makoto, she felt more comfortable with the two blondes. After a few days, she had learned a few things about the people in the house.

Minako, the woman who found her and had decided to keep her in her house. How she wishes she would repay that woman one day. Ami, the cute doctor. Didn't say much but she was very intelligent in doing her job. Rei, the dark-haired woman, she was a tough woman but caring at the same time. Usagi, the most cheerful woman in the house. Always made Makoto smile. Mamoru didn't talk much. Michiru, one of the beautiful women in the house after Minako in Makoto's perspective. The last one was Haruka, the boyish woman who seemed not to like her presence in this house.

"Usagi," Makoto called up to the blonde.

"Yes," she looked up from her comic book.

Makoto was hesitant to ask the question, but she finally did. "Where is Minako?"

Usagi blinked a few times. "Oh, Minako has a job out of town with Rei."

Makoto nodded. "She and Rei…?" Usagi's big blue eyes stared at Makoto, waiting for her to finish her question. "In a relationship?" Makoto asked.

Usagi laughed hysterically. "Minako and Rei?" She continued laughing. "Why are you asking that?"

Makoto blushed lightly. "Well, they seem close," Makoto's eyes darted away from the blonde. She still remembered the last time she saw Minako; it was in the kitchen, where Rei and Minako were hugging each other.

Usagi thought for a while. "Well, they're partners in their job, but they're not romantically involved." She explained.

"What do you mean, partner in their job?" Makoto was curious.

The blonde shook her head. "Let Minako explain that to you," she winked at the brunette.

When Makoto wanted to ask more to Usagi, Mamoru had entered the room. "How are you doing, Makoto?" he asked before bending down to kiss Usagi's head.

"Good, doctor," she answered simply.

Mamoru smiled. "Just call me Mamoru," he said. "I'm not in the hospital."

The woman on the bed nodded her head.

"Ami had updated me about your condition," he took the file next to the bed. "Your wound is almost fully recovered, but you still can't remember your past?" he asked.

Makoto shook her head.

"Have you felt something that seems familiar to you?"

Makoto shook her head. "I just had a few nightmares," Makoto admitted. "I hope it was just a nightmare," she said in a sad tone.

Mamoru stared at the brunette woman. "Well, tomorrow once Minako is back, we should let you have a physio session. You've been in bed for almost a month. Your legs need to learn how to walk again. And I need to monitor the wound on your leg."

Emerald eyes light up at the mention of Minako's name. "Minako will be back tomorrow?" she asked softly.

Usagi looked at the brunette's face. She could sense how much this woman liked to talk about Minako. "Yes, she will be back tomorrow."

Makoto smiled at Usagi. She can't wait to see Minako again.

-

Makoto ran through the dark jungle. Another bullet hit her shoulder.

"Arghh!!!" Makoto groaned in pain as she fell to the ground. "Damn!!!" she cursed. She looked up and decided to push herself to stand again. She hid behind a tree and shot her enemies randomly.

Click, click!

Her gun was out of bullets. "Shit!" She threw her gun and continued to run.

-

Minako, who had just returned from work, placed the house key on the key rack. Then she heard a sound coming from the guest room. Her eyes widened. "Makoto!" She ran to the room where she found Makoto struggling on the bed. Usagi looked at Minako in a panic state.

"She had a nightmare. I tried to call her name, but she didn't wake up," Usagi explained.

"Where is Mamoru?" Minako asked.

"It's my fault. I was hungry, so he went out to find me some food to eat," Usagi told Minako the situation. "I'm sorry."

It was not time to blame anyone for Minako. Makoto was still moving violently in her sleep, and Minako saw her handcuffed wrist bleeding. "Usagi, give me the handcuff key!" Minako gave an order.

"But…"

Minako turned to face another blonde. "She will hurt herself more if I don't release her!" Minako shouted at Usagi.

Usagi looked at Makoto's hands. "Okay," she took the key out of her jeans pocket. Her trembling hand gave the key to Minako.

Minako took the key and unlocked Makoto's right hand. Makoto's hand suddenly choked Minako's throat like the first time it happened. Usagi gasped. "Minako!" Usagi screamed.

"Mako…it's me…Minako," Minako said between coughs.

Emerald eyes widened when she realised she was choking the woman in front of her. "Minako?" She loosened her grip on Minako's throat.

Minako's teary eyes stared at Makoto's. "Yes, I'm back," she smiled at the brunette.

"I hurt you again," she said, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Minako shook her head. "It's okay," Minako wiped the tears from Makoto's cheeks with her thumbs. She could feel the woman shaking.

Makoto couldn't stop crying when she felt Minako's touch. "I'm sorry," more tears fell from her eyes.

"Shhh…" Minako sat in front of Makoto and pulled her into her embrace. "It's okay. I'm here. I'm here," Minako whispered and wrapped her arms around the woman to calm her down.

-

When Makoto finally fell asleep again, Minako looked at the woman's face for the last time before leaving the room. She knew all eyes were on her in the living room.

"Why did you take off the handcuff?" Rei asked coldly.

Minako looked at her partner. "She was hurting herself," she explained.

"Minako, this is the second time she became aggressive towards you," Haruka said.

She shot a glare at the taller woman. "What do you want me to do? Her wrist was bleeding while she was having a nightmare. I don't know what her nightmare was, but I know I need to save her from getting injured again." Minako shook her head. "I know you all worry about me. But this woman needs our help. My help!" Minako shouted before storming to her guest room.

Usagi looked around the living room. "Minako is right. Makoto was unconscious when she tried to hurt herself and Minako. She didn't mean to do that. We should stop treating her like a prisoner here."

Meanwhile in the guest room, Minako sat next to the bed. She took Makoto's hand in her own. She stared at the woman's face under dim light. "I'm sorry for leaving you these few days," Minako said to sleeping Makoto in a whisper.

Makoto sighed in her sleep. She was still having a nightmare, which worried Minako.

"Mina…" Makoto whispered in her half sleep.

"Yes, Makoto. I'm here," Minako squeezed Makoto's hand softly to tell the woman that she was there with her.

"Can you hold me tonight?" Makoto requested.

Minako smiled at the woman in front of her. "Sure," she answered without hesitation. She immediately kicked off her boots before sliding onto the bed next to Makoto. She wrapped her arms around Makoto's shoulder slowly to avoid touching her shoulder wound and pulled the woman closer against her body. Makoto wrapped her arms around Minako's waist. It felt so calm to have this woman around her. "Feeling better?" Minako asked.

Makoto was too sleepy to answer Minako's question. She nodded her head against Minako's chest before dozing off.

Minako placed a small kiss on Makoto's head. "Good night, sweetheart," she whispered before her own eyes slid shut.

-

Bang!

Makoto's eyes widened as she jerked off the bed. Her breath quickened and she was sweating badly. Her hands shook badly because of the bad dreams she had just had.

"Makoto?" Minako called her name.

She turned her head slightly to see that Minako was staring at her.

"Another nightmare?" she asked as she moved her hand up and down on Makoto's back. Her simple touch had made the brunette calm.

Makoto nodded at her question.

They were silent for a few seconds. Minako tried to give the woman some time to calm herself. Blue eyes watched Makoto's back while Minako looked at her trembling hands.

"What if I'm a bad guy?" she suddenly asked.

Minako blinked several times, trying to find an answer to Makoto's question. However, she decided not to answer.

"I will leave this place once I am fully recovered," Makoto decided.

The blonde remained silent. Too many things were playing in her mind right now. Losing this woman was one of them.

"But your memory?" Minako asked.

Makoto closed her eyes as she felt safe in Minako's soft touch. "It doesn't matter anymore," she said in a whisper. "I don't feel right to stay here any longer. I don't want to let anyone of you get hurt because of me." She arched her head to look at Minako's face. "Especially you. Not from my enemy, not from me."

Minako stopped herself from stroking Makoto's back when their eyes met. She knew Makoto couldn't stop blaming herself for hurting her earlier.

Minako smiled at the woman in front of her. "What if I ask you to stay?" Minako asked sincerely. Makoto's emerald eyes lit up at Minako's question. She took Makoto's hand in hers. "I had lost someone who was important to me in the past. I don't want something like that to happen again," Minako's eyes glistened at the confession.

"Minako…" their eyes still looking at each other.

"Please, Makoto. Let me help you until you get your memory back," Minako begged.

Emerald eyes examined the blue eyes and knew this woman really meant what she had said. "What if I can't remember forever?"

"Then you have to stay with me forever," Minako joked.

Makoto chuckled at Minako's blunt answer. This woman had made her heart warm just by looking at her beautiful face. She tried not to think too much about her feelings toward this blonde. "I'm sleepy." She said, trying to brush off the weird feelings in her heart.

The blonde smiled at her. She couldn't deny that she was tired and sleepy too, especially after a long night's work. She felt relieved that she had come back early from work instead of tomorrow, as scheduled.

"Come here," Minako patted the empty space beside her.

The taller woman laid down next to Minako as Minako wrapped her arms around Makoto's shoulder like the earlier position. She snuggled closer to the smaller woman's body. Even though she tried not to think about her feelings, she couldn't help but feel comfortable in this woman's arms. It felt warm and sometimes she thought the chemistry between her and Minako felt natural.

"Minako…"

"Humm…" Minako hummed sleepily.

"Are you single?" Makoto asked.

Minako chuckled at the question, even her eyelids were closed. "Are you trying to ask me on a date?"

"Only if you are single," Makoto said against Minako's neck.

Minako was too sleepy to answer Makoto's question. "Yes, I'm single…"

A wide smile appeared on Makoto's face. "Would you date me then?" she asked the other woman. When there was no answer from Minako, she looked up to see Minako's face. She smiled to herself when she saw Minako was soundly sleeping. "I will ask again, Minako." She leaned closer to kiss Minako's cheek.

Suddenly, the image of her kissing a woman's cheek appeared on her head.

"Mako…"

Makoto's eyes went wide. The image was too blurry. "Who was that woman?" Makoto wondered.

-

The violet eyes stared at the two women on the bed in the guest room. Minako had her arms around Makoto, while Makoto had buried her face on the crook of Minako's neck with her left hand wrapped around Minako's waist. She smiled at herself when looking at these two women snuggled on bed.

"They look like a couple," Usagi commented while having her morning bread.

Rei smiled at Usagi. "Yeah." She shrugged her shoulders. "That's something about Makoto that made Minako want to keep her."

Usagi nodded.

-

The glass was thrown to the floor, startling everyone in the room. They all just looked at the floor, afraid to look at their leader's face.

"What do you mean you let her fall from the cliff?" Kunzite yelled at Jadeite. "Have you seen her body?"

Jadeite shook his head.

"Then how do you know she is dead?" Kunzite couldn't hold his temper in front of his subordinates.

"I had shot her in the chest. She might have lost a lot of blood…" Nephrite tried to explain.

Kunzite released a shot which hit Nephrite's left shoulder. The brown-haired man groaned in pain as he knelt on the floor. "Did you lose a lot of blood?" he questioned the man on the floor. His eyes glared at all his subordinates. "I gave you all one job! To kill Kino Makoto! But you just said you shot her and she fell from a cliff to the ocean?"

Jadeite and the rest remained quiet.

Kunzite's eyes found Jadeite's again. "I need you to bring me the evidence that she is dead!"

The smaller man nodded understanding.

The white-haired man sighed. "Now leave!" he gave them his final order.

When all his men left the room, one woman sitting on the sofa at the corner of the room smiled at Kunzite. "You shouldn't have hurt him," Beryl said, holding a glass of wine.

"I will do anything to kill that woman," he said in a fit of irritation.

The red-haired woman smirked with her evil eyes staring at Kunzite. "Killing her wouldn't make the woman you loved back to life."

Kunzite's eyes widened. He pushed Beryl against the wall with harsh force and glared at the woman with full of hatred. "Don't you dare to mention her in front of me again!" he warned.

Beryl looked into Kunzite's angry eyes. "Fine," she said.

Kunzite let go the woman before walking to his desk. "Now, please leave," he said without turning around.

Beryl didn't say anything. She just walked to the door. Before leaving the room, she looked at the man in the room and smirked. When the woman finally left the room, Kunzite punched the desk with his right hand.

"Damn you, Kino!"
