Here we are again! This is a concept that has been resting on my brain for some time. It will be set during their 2nd year of college, approximately one year, maybe more after their public "break-up".
This will be short. Just some scenes. Hope you like this idea!
Now, to the usual warnings:
- English is not my first language. Feel free to warn me of any mistakes you find along the way.
- I used some Thai words during the ff. I searched about it, but I absolutely recognise that they may be used wrongly. I don't mean any offence by that. I just like reading some Thai words during the story as I can totally hear them say those. Probably you can too.
- You can also find this on AO3 and Wattpad under the same name.
Disclaimer: This is a fanfic. I used the characters as a source of inspiration, but I don't own them.
Fanfiction doesn't have (for now!) a category for BadBuddy. I'm sorry that I put it down this one.
Let's gooo!
Sumary:
#He doesn't remember me?"
#You are my faen, dumbass.
The one where Pat had an accident and forgot his relationship with Pran.
#C'mon, Pran! Did you think I would believe that? You would be luckier if you had chosen to tell me you're dating my sister.
#I know this is a prank. You and I? Together? Never.
And thinks Pran is pranking him.
Chapter 1 - Forget About Me
"Pat, here. Have your phone back. And go take out the trash!"
"Pa, can't you do it yourself? Pat came back just now!" Pat's mother screams back at her daughter.
"The doctor said he was fine and could return to his normal life."
Pat laughs at the interaction and notices his phone.
"Is this my phone? We bought a new one?"
Pat looks enthusiastically at his "new" phone and lights the screen. Fortunately, it has fingerprint recognition, so he manages to unlock the phone easily. It has a few notifications, some messages… He opens the most recent one.
[Ai tao Dimples: Meet outside in 5.]
What? Who is this now?
The profile photo only shows a smiley/sad emoticon ):) on a dark blue background. It has been sent 15 minutes ago. Besides this message, there is only one more in the chat.
[Ai tao Dimples: I'll be back in 10 days. Don't miss me too much! 555] This one is dated four days before the accident.
He doesn't remember what happened. It is all blank. But from what people said, he was in a cab, and a truck came in their direction. So, the driver drove them off the road, and they hit a tree. With the impact, he hit his head and stayed unconscious for three whole days. In a certain way, the driver was worse. He broke his arm, his wrist and a leg. Pat had visited him in the hospital before he got released one day ago. Nevertheless, when Pat came to consciousness, he didn't remember a part of his life.
He remembers meeting his new friends in college. He remembers hitting it off with Korn in the initiation. He has been messaging Pa to check on him and has visited him at the hospital after he had woken up. Apart from that, it's blank. He remembers nothing more. It will be a disgrace to come back to school and remember nothing of what he has learned from the last year and semester.
"Pat, trash!"
He shakes his head, his phone getting into focus again.
"Pa, no. I'll go."
His mother makes a movement to get up, but Pat stops her.
"No, Ma! It's fine. I even want to go and get some ice cream."
"I can go and get it for you."
He shakes his head, "No. I stayed in a bed for so long. I want to walk!"
She presses her lips, considering what he said.
"Okay. But take your phone and call me if you need something."
"Yes, Ma. Do you want something from the store? I can bring it for you." She smiles and pats his cheek.
"You're so cute, luk chai. No, I don't need anything."
He beams at her.
"Well, I know someone to whom I won't be bringing ice cream!" he screamed to his sister.
She sticks out her tongue to him, and he grabs the trash bag, heading out. Closing the door behind him, he steps outside to their red trash bin, throwing the bag inside. His eyes slowly switch to the yellow bin by its side that belongs to the neighbouring house.
"Pat!"
His head jerks up to the sound.
Pran! Pran is in front of him. He returned!
Before he could say anything, Pran pulled him by his hand. Looking side to side, he makes Pat cross Pat's front gate to a shadowy spot by the wall. Once there, he turns around and hugs Pat, catching him off guard.
Wait…. What's happening, now?!
"I cannot believe this happened! How are you? They took our phones away at the camp. I only got to know today, once I got out of the bus. I'm so sorry, teerak!"
TEERAK?!
Pat laughs nervously at the absurdity of this situation and pulls him away from his chest.
"Wow! What kind of new technique is this one, now?"
Pran seems to ignore him, "How are you feeling?"
Pran raises his hand to Pat's face, and Pat jumps back, beating his hand away, his first thought being that Pran wanted to hit him. Pran frowns but, surprisingly to Pat, doesn't move to attack.
Pat then takes that moment to notice the other boy. He is taller, just a few centimetres shorter than Pat. His features got sharper, but he still looks cute. And his eyes are red as if he had just been crying.
Why would he be crying?
"Are you okay, Pat?"
He's the one that seems to have been crying. Pat should be the one asking that. He decides to laugh it out. That's what they do, right?
"Don't tell me you return just because of my accident. Worried much?"
Pran seems surprised but still smirks hesitantly.
"Unfortunately, they didn't open your skull. If they would have, maybe we would have been able to understand what the hell is wrong with you."
Pat suppresses a laugh. This is it! He missed it. Damn! Much more than what he cares to admit. The adrenaline of their fights, the push of their teasing...
"But seriously. I'm sorry. I didn't know they were going to take away our phones. I should have been there with you."
Pat is having a hard time processing what is happening. Pran saying sorry to him... The hell!? If this was another situation, Pran wouldn't hear the end of it. But Pat has just lost part of his memory, and he didn't know in which step they were.
When Pran went away, they weren't really on bad terms anymore. They were playing in the band together and talking like normal and civil people. Almost like friends? Of course, the teasing was always there, but it was different then. Maybe Pran had returned for some time already, maybe they had started off from where it stopped. That would be nice. Putting their rivalry aside, Pat didn't share the animosity towards Pran and his family as their parents did.
Pat's focus is startled by the contact of the other boy's hand on his. He gets closer, and Pat looks at him, searching for any clue of what he is trying to do. But he finds the other boy looking around like they did many times, checking to see if their parents or someone who knew them was close enough to see them together before talking about the band, football, or school stuff. As if it is muscle memory, his eyes also sprint around to check the area.
The exact moment when his head turns back, his lips are pressed by Pran's.
FUCK!
With the shock, he leaps back, hitting his head on the wall, and pushes Pran, who falls unprepared to the ground. It is only a second after that Pat understands what just happened. Pran kissed him! He kissed him! On the lips!
WHAT?!
"Shia! Pat!" Pran looks at him baffled but gets up fast to check on him, "Did you hit your head? Are you alright?" he slaps Pat's arm, "What is wrong with you, idiot?"
Pat is still in shock. His eyes widened, and his chin dropped. He takes some time to put some sloppy words together.
"Wha– what's wrong with me? We… We should ask what's wrong with you!"
Pran's face is wrinkled with confusion, and his teeth shut. He is getting angry. Pat can tell. But it is just a moment in his face. Then, it passes, his lines softening much quicker than usual.
"Pat, are you all right? Why did you push me?"
Pat raises his hands to his mouth.
"You kissed me!" Pran arches a confused eyebrow, and Pat licks his lips, tasting them now that Pran can see the movement, "Why?"
The shock was still travelling Pat's body.
"I don't know… I wanted to? Nobody was watching!"
"So? Who kisses someone without asking?"
Pran blinks in confusion, and his tone takes a higher note, "Now, I have to ask?"
"That's usually how this works."
"What are you joking about?", Pran shakes his head, and the line of annoyance on his forehead shows again.
Wait! That's it! Joking. Pran is pranking him!
"You always want to kiss me!"
Pat can't contain his laughter. Of course, he is pranking him. But, damn, this is a whole new stock of pranks he's pulling. Quicker than he could answer, his sister appears from nowhere, shushing them up.
"Guys! What the hell is wrong with you two? You are talking way too loud," the head of the little girl switches from Pat to Pran, her tone low as a secret, "If you don't tone it down, our parents will come to see what's happening. Ma was almost coming!"
Pat presses his lips together, and Pa notices the desperate look that Pran is sending her.
"Phi!" she gets closer to Pran, grabbing his arm, "I'm sorry. I was thinking this could go another way. Definitely more romantic than what seems to have gone…"
Pran lowers his head to look at her.
"Is there something that I don't know?"
She looks apologetically at him.
"Pat lost part of his memory after the accident, P'Pran. He remembers just up until he started university. More than that is all blank."
Pran steps back, frozen in a shocked expression. He stares at Pat, his eyes glowing in worry, and somehow Pat feels hot inside.
"Meung, I didn't know you would get so worried about me!" Pat teases with his characteristic grin.
Pran returns his eyes to Pa.
"He doesn't remember me?"
"As far as I know, no."
What? I do remember Pran!
All of Pran's posture drops. No more signs of the annoyance or anger that were there before. He seems sad. Just sad.
"What are you saying? I know who Pran is!"
Pran's kitten eyes rise to him, and Pat smiles in what he hopes to be a comforting way. But Pa sighs and brings her hand to Pran's arm, squeezing.
"Don't worry, Phi. The doctor said the memories will probably come back. We have to talk to him about them, give him some clues, show him pictures, that kind of stuff… So he can remember."
And then, she hugs him.
Since when are they so close to hug like that?
Pran rests his face on her head, closing his eyes. They seemed comfortable around each other.
Are they… Dating?
He remembers the times Pa praised Pran as handsome and nice. It also didn't escape to him how she had mentioned Pran subtly when he woke up from the coma. The thought of his sister and Pran dating is shutting his brain down.
"Are you okay?"
Their eyes are now on him. The hug already broken.
"Did you remember something?" asks Pran.
This feeling is strange. Pat knows Pran is a nice guy. He would be a nice person for his sister. But…
"Are you two dating?"
Wasn't Pran gay? He definitely doesn't like the thought of Pran and his sister dating. And it makes sense! After all, he's his rival. His thoughts were interrupted by Pa's laugh and Pran's "no".
"No. We are," Pran responds, pointing to both of them.
Still laughing, Pa concludes, "I'll let you both sort this mess out before Ma comes looking for me."
They stay alone again. Pran is now smiling, though worry is still in the lines of his expression. But welcome dimples! When they were children, Pat used to be jealous of those dimples. He used to suck his cheeks inside and smile in a certain way to try to make dimples appear on his face but was never successful. There were fights he started just because of that annoyance. Then, he grew up. And, there was a day when it became easy for Pat to understand all the colleagues and grown-ups who used to shower Pran with compliments about how cute his smile was because of its dimples and how beautiful they made Pran. Afterwards, it all became a game where he no longer got annoyed by Pran's dimples but instead looked forward to teasing Pran just in the right way for that smile and the sparkle in his dark eyes to appear.
Pat notices he is staring, and the air between them becomes awkward. He has to say something, but Pran beats him to it.
"We are dating."
"With whom?"
Pran raises his eyebrow and sighs deeply. "We. With us."
Dating ourselves? Yes, I guess I have been dating myself. And I'm a catch!
That thought makes him chuckle. Pran looks at him sideways, hesitantly.
"You and I? You with me. I with you," repeats Pran to confirm that Pat understood.
It appears Pran's suspicions were right. To that, Pran rolls his eyes.
Oooooooooooh!
That makes Pat all twisted inside! That sign of superiority Pran liked to send him. It makes him want to squish Pran's eyeballs out. He breathes deeply once to control his hands, and Pran speaks again with a smug smile.
"You are my faen, dumbass."
There is silence between them. Pran keeps looking at him hesitantly, his smug smile trembling. But Pat understands it. Oh, he understands it perfectly. It is much more elaborate than what he thought! He starts laughing and laughing like a madman, and it's Pran's time to look confused.
"Oh meung, you almost got me there. Man, that's a whole bag of new tricks you got! What do they teach you in that private school?" Pat shakes his head and starts heading in the opposite direction.
"What? Pat! What the hell? We are talking. Where are you going?"
"To buy ice cream," Pat halts his steps, touching the pockets of his shorts, "Dang! I forgot the money."
Pran is already behind him when he turns again to their house.
"Pat. Honestly, it's true! I'm your boyfriend."
He raises his hand.
"C'mon, Pran! Did you think I would believe that?" he passes through him and keeps talking, "I think you would be luckier if you had chosen to tell me you're dating my sister."
"Pat! Do you think this is a prank or what?"
Pat turns around. Pran is facing him, hands on his hips. Pat smirks and gets closer to the shorter boy.
"I know this is a prank. You and I? Together? Never."
Pran doesn't back down, standing his ground.
"You are in love with me."
Pat hesitates a little but begins to step back towards his house.
"Pran, you chose bad! Nobody, nobody would ever believe that. You should have gone with something a little more credible."
Then, he turns around and gets inside his front gate, leaving Pran to his thoughts.
"Oh, trust me. You will believe."
