Prologue

The wind barely blew as the stars shined brightly by the moon. It was quiet on the grounds. The guards had finished sweeping the surrounding area for the fourth time in the past hour. The princess' mansion was quiet as well, no lights gleamed from the upstairs rooms where the princess resided. Her caregiver's courters were dim, yet still as the lady sat with her back to the window, she looked through her documents from the day. Reports of patients requiring serums and magic therapy lay on the end table by a cup of tea. The silence gave the lady time to shift through her secondary work; as well as caring for the princess, she was to offer guidance to the hospitals in the kingdom, as per the Queen's wishes. Her work was never really finished; however, she was able to enjoy any little bit of silence she can get. The lady ran a hand through her blonde hair, unaware of the gentle thuds of the royal guards' bodies being laid on the grass. Movements so swift, yet so silent, she didn't hear the light jiggle of the window from the other side of her room. She did notice, however, the tingle that ran through her ears which caused her to pause her reading. The silence was too silent…

"Magic?" the lady carefully stood from her chair and glanced from her windows to the outside.

She didn't see the guards who were supposed to be stationed directly outside her windows and the main door. Did they do another sweep? The tingles did not subside as she walked over to the door and opened it carefully. If she was sensing magic, then she had to be cautious. This magic was not from the individuals who guarded the princess' mansion. It was colder, more airy…almost invisible. The lady gasp as she noticed the Uchiha guards carefully laid upon the grass, their eyes wide open. She looked around before kneeling by one, putting a hand over his eyes. The guard's eyes were in the middle of shifting from their usual onyx color, to their red counter color. She concluded that they had been ambushed. His skin felt frosty under her fingers. She glanced around as she summoned her own magic to unfreeze the guard. The lady looked for any trace of an intruder; foot prints, branches breaking, eyes in the shadows… Nothing but a sense of tingles and the frost that crawled in the air. The guard grunted as he came back to consciousness and looked alarmingly at the lady.

"What-"

"Shh," she covered his mouth and stopped him from sitting up too quickly.

As she carefully stood, her skirts were tucked into her belt as she kept herself bent at the knee. Motioning him to follow, the lady carefully led the guard around the perimeter of the mansion. As they got closer to the balcony of the princess' third floor room, she noticed more guards on the ground, frozen. How did she not hear them? She was about to blink when a whisp of air pushed against her face. A figure had climbed down and hovered over the grass. In their arms was the princess. It was unclear if she was frozen as well, however, the lady did not hesitate in raising her arms. In a swift movement, she grabbed a knife from the guard's belt and hurled it at the figure. In that same breath she and the guard surrounded the figure and made a grab for them. The princess was dropped onto the grass as the figure dodged the attempted contact. Their movements were silent and swift as their feet barely grazed upon the grass. The lady had had enough of the song and dance; she gathered her magic to her hands as she closed her fist and swung. Her fist collided with a wall of ice as the figure threw themselves back, the force of the punch was enough to make distance by pushing the figure backwards a few yards. Before she could approach again, the figure slid back into the shadows.

Gone.

"Fuck!" she cried. "Fuck, fuck, fuck!"

"She is alright, Lady."

She turned to the guard. The princess was in his arms with her eyes closed. No visible damage, no imbalance in her magic flow. Perhaps under a sleeping enchantment? The lady nodded to the guard and they quickly carried the princess back upstairs. The caregiver searched her some more and noticed a broken chain dangling from the princess' neck. Proof an attempt, she thought as she tucked the princess back under her covers. Turning to the guard, she sighed.

"I will help the others. You stay here."

"Yes, ma'am." The guard hummed. "Shall I write a report?"

The lady shook her head, her blonde locks now out of place. "I will handle it."

She stood straight and tucked the other side of her skirt into her belt. She made haste as she went to work unfreezing the rest of the guards that had been silently disarmed. There had to be more than one. There is no way one person could do such a thorough job in a kidnapping attempt. The lady paused. Wait a minute. Her mind cleared a bit as she helped the guard she was kneeling over to sit up. Swift, magic heavy, she had an idea of who to get information from. She had her clue; the type of magic that was presented was not common in this kingdom.

"Fuck." She said again.

The lady glanced at the clock tower and ran a hand though her blonde hair. So much for a quiet night.
