A/N: Hello my lovelies. I've had some time to myself and actually got into the mindset of doing some writing, so here's a little one for you. I hope you like it, sorry I've been away, I'm still waiting for a diagnosis, I've gone through so many tests that I'm like a regular at the hospital now. To the point where I debated just going in with my PJ's on for one appointment. I have good days and bad days just like everyone else, but more bad than good lately, hopefully uploading this chapter and seeing what you all think of it might cheer me up.
Please be mindful, that this is just fanfiction, a story that I'm making up as I go. With moments loosely based on the movies and book. If my work isn't something that you enjoy or think is inaccurate, for the sake of my sanity and my obsessive need to overthink and over worry, just either be open minded and go with it or stop reading and go find something else.
Because telling an author that their work is horrible, inaccurate, that this would never happen and proceed to continue with derogatory comments, is just a waste of your time and mine. And I'm not here to be bullied or have someone else bullied on my half for that matter either. So, if you're one of those people who like to slander and shame others, just get on your bike and pedal until you reach the Sun. And then keep going.
But other than that, enjoy!
Breakfast
Aurora's P.O.V
Questions. So Many Questions!
Even with my sudden disappearance during the early morning causing a slight panic amongst the group. The brood full of dwarves, Gandalf and a Bilbo, had eaten breakfast already. Clearly some had realized that I was not awake, had come to wake, realized that I wasn't there and sent the whole camp into a panic. Someone, I'm not entirely sure who, had also saved me some breakfast too. Which, thank the heavens for because as soon as Gandalf had stopped laughing at me and the others had gotten over their initial shock, I was all but carried over to my bed roll, dumped down (well gently placed on it I should say) and a bowl full of food is shoved into my hands.
And then the questions started, it's a wonder I'd managed to get some food down my throat with their eagerness. I'm half listening to their endless questions about my recent, unexpected adventure, that gained me a new power as I shovel spoonful after spoonful into my mouth, suddenly ravenous.
"So, how does it work?"
"What happens to your body?"
"Where did you go?"
"Can you do it again?"
"Does it hurt?"
The voices of the whole company, Gandalf included but minus Thorin and Dwalin, continue to bombard with me all sorts of questions. Overlapping each other in their haste to get my attention and answer first, causing minor scuffles between them that quickly ended when another person asked a question, and they stop to add onto that question instead.
"Alright lads." I say as I quickly scoff down the last mouthful of my breakfast, barely tasting it in my haste to get it down, not in order to stop them from talking but due to my sudden bought of hunger. "Just a second please. It's all still very new to me, still very raw." I say in between a few breathes and a few gulps of water to wash the food that may not have been chewed properly and is currently lodged in my throat. "I'm still processing it myself." I try to burp as discreetly and elegantly as possible for a Lady, but it comes out as a great big belch that I try to hide behind my hand. "Excuse me!" I laugh as the lad's cheer.
"Now Lassie, start from the beginning." Balin says fondly and quickly shoots his gaze to the others, silently telling them to hold out on anymore questions until I'm finished. Ori, bless him, is posed with his journal at the ready, waiting eagerly to take notes.
"Okay, so, the way I communicate with the Spirits, is through my mind. I simply call out to them with my mind, and it opens a pathway to them, it doesn't matter what realm they're in or where I am, they can hear me and I can hear them. I don't quite know how it works per say but it's called telepathy. It comes in handy if I need help or guidance and as they are able to move from realm to realm, with just a blink of an eye, they're able to get to me very quickly. They call it teleporting, being able to move one's body from one place to another without actually moving, just by simply using their minds. But my way is just a little bit different and I like the way I do it better."
I take a breath and a sip of water before continuing.
"Sometimes when I'm asleep I can project an image of myself to them, as in appearing to them, in their realm with mind, not my body but they can see me as if I am there, as a whole. But I've never been strong enough to physically move my body to them or anywhere else, it takes a toll on the body as well as the mind, the soul and my powers. I've been working with them to strengthen all of that. So, whilst my body is getting the rest it needs, my mind tends to wander. Sometimes, I project an image of myself to places, no one can see me though. But I can make myself visible enough so that you can just see a wispy version of me, like looking at a reflecting of yourself through a running water of a river. You with me?" Everyone nods.
"When I project this image of myself, it's just an image of myself that I create through my mind, it's like looking into a mirror, I'm reflecting an image of myself, but it tends to coincide with what I look like at that moment. I can't use any of my other power's because they can only be activated through my body and then controlled by my mind. I may be able to use the flames from a fire here, where my body is unconscious but the fire will spread here and not over where I need it to be where my projection is." They all nod in understanding.
"When you project yourself, it's just a opaque version of yourself, not whole, not including the use of your other powers." Gloin summarizes, ignoring Balin's glare.
"Yes and I can't be hurt in that form, though, if I hurt when I project myself to you, or my body gets hurt whilst projecting, it'll show."
"You're vulnerable when you project?" Dwalin inputs, his eyebrows furrowed.
"I am, because my other powers essentially are cut off from me when I project, I also loose my senses, because they're busy being used by that projection, I haven't quite figured out yet I can use my powers whilst projecting, I've tried, just out of curiosity but it's never worked, I don't know if I can be done or not but considering I've evolved from projecting an image of myself to actually moving my body through space and time, then maybe, it's a possibility for the future."
I look towards Gandalf who raises his eyebrows at the thought of my idea and shrugs as if to say, he's not sure himself.
"Your powers are growing, not only are they getting strong but as you've said, they're evolving, who's to say if it is a possibility of you just simply trying and trying to then not trying at all and it suddenly happening." I nod at his words before getting back on track.
"But anyways, that leads me to this Orbing power that I have now. Whilst I was asleep, the Spirits called to me, normally, I'd reach out, see where they are calling me from and send an image of myself to them. Except this time, I didn't."
"You actually travelled through time and space to them, whole." Bofur confirms excitedly, gesturing with his hands to his body.
"Yes, but I didn't realize this, I thought I was still this wispy image of myself. Until I landed on my back and hand the wind knocked out of me." I giggle, somewhat entertained by his antics as well as the rough landing I had. "Once it was explained to me what I'd done, the Spirits helped me practice, how to go to one place to another through visual aid and again through someone calling to me through my mind. I was some how able to figure out and it was like a door had been opened. Once I was able to do Orb multiple times, it was easy, but that was in their realm. Time moves differently there. I heard you calling for me but it was almost like you were trying to talk to me through water."
"So how did you actually hear us? In order to realize that time was running like normal here and that you'd disappeared." Nori asks.
"Because of how far away I was, it was different, I usually hear people a lot more clearly, so I had to concentrate more to find you. I know where this place is but to find you through time and space, I had to really focus. Every time someone calls to me, they are like a beacon. I simply follow that beacon in my mind to find out where they are. I'll communicate with the individual and if I am close to that area and they're not in immediate danger, I'll travel to them by foot." A chorus of murmurs amongst each of them as they discuss this.
"And if they are in danger?" Thorin asks, his deep tone cuts across the rocky shelf we're on, silencing everyone.
"Then I call for the Spirits. Sometimes they postpone the threat the best they can before I get there, simply by making it out to be that their presence is just an act of nature. Thieves in villages, catching fire by candles, tripping over tree roots that appear from nowhere, almost disappearing in what they thought was a puddle until they're suddenly elbows deep in it. Stuff like that, they can't intervene too much. After that, I'll sort it from there once I arrive but if I'm needed, right there and then, one of them will come get me and transport me there with Cas, or by simply snapping their fingers and we'll appear within a blink of an eye if they're in the thick of it and neither of them can get me themselves."
"And with this new power, when someone calls for you, are you in control? You're able to travel if and when needed, it's your choice." Thorin buts in again before any of the others can but once hearing his question, they swing their heads back to me.
"Yes, I have the choice, it's not as if I'm being summoned against my will, the minute that someone calls for me. This was a one time thing, I didn't know I could do until the Spirit's called me, like they always have. Now that I know how this power works, I can control it. But if a scenario comes this way, it would take someone, with powers far greater than mine to do such a thing." I look off to the side, where Gandalf sits among the trees, present enough to join conversation but far enough to be left out if needs be.
"Even if that someone was able to summon you to them, it would drain them greatly, it will more than likely leave them depleted of their powers and leave them physically and mentally weakened. For how long for, that will remain unknown. But someone with that kind of power, no longer exists is this world anymore." He says gruffly but there's something underlying in his gaze and tone that suggests otherwise.
"Indeed, we wouldn't want to lose Middle Earth's greatest protector, now would we." Dwalin comments, I almost take offence to it before I see the twinkle in his eyes.
"I don't know about greatest protector, but I can promise you if it ever happens, I won't go down without a fight, or without taking a few of the bastards with me as well." Cheers erupt around me, and a few hands pat me on the bat.
"Back to the Orbing." Kili appears in front on me, seating himself so close we're sitting crossed legged, knees touching. "You Orbed right on top of me." He says with a smirk and the heat that travels up from my chest is so quick it's ridiculous. Not to mention that guffaws of laughter around me, including Bilbo. "How'd that happen?"
"You were the last person that I heard calling for me, when I managed to pin point everyone, I wanted to make sure I didn't land on the edge of the cliff or something but when you called, and I saw everyone in a panic, it's like my own panic over you all overshadowed my powers and next thing I know." I gesture to him and clear my throat as I try not to blush. "But clearly I didn't stick that landing that I was hoping for. Between my powers being connected to my emotions and moving from the Spirits Realm to Middle Earth, I guess you can say it's difficult at most. I struggled to do it through my mind and now that I can do it, body and all, it's going to take some practicing. Speaking of which." I trail off, focusing on Gandalf before feeling that tingly sensation again, I quickly closing my eyes for a split second, before opening them and find myself sitting next to Gandalf.
"Aaaaaahhhhh!" He gasps, losing his perch against the tree trunk that he's leaning against, I duck as his arms flail as he tries to find his balance. All the while, I'm giggling, finding it all too amusing that I've finally managed to catch the old sod by surprise. "Oh Aurora, you terror." He tries to scold me as he sits back up but there's a hint of a smile on his face as he does so, he moves his left hand to reach out for me, but I pull that tingling feeling back up, blink and I'm back in front of Kili, who's watching the little blots of swirling light as they linger a second longer around me before disappearing.
"As it would seem, being back on the realm that I was born in, I'm able to Orb around quite easily." I grin, Kili smiles back, leaning backwards slightly taking me in, assessing me for a moment, his face going serious.
"It doesn't hurt you though?" I smile lightly at his concern.
"Otherwise, they'll be no more of that happening ever again." I hear Bilbo chime in, with a very serious voice.
"No, it doesn't hurt. It's more like that tingly feeling you get, when you've been sat for too long and the circulation comes back to you. Or that funny feeling in your stomach when you jump from a great height. That feeling. But it's just for a split second, for that second that my body is no longer in one place but travelling to another, I get that tingly feeling. Before and after that, there's nothing."
"Well, good." And that's all Bilbo has to say on this new power of mine.
"So, you can Orb to anywhere you want, at any given time, should you choose to."
"Pretty much, yes. But I think it takes a toll. When I Orbed here the first time, I was suddenly hungry, like I hadn't eaten anything, for far longer than what I usually go without for. Orbing long distances, must take a great deal of energy out of me. I'm okay now, probably because I ate not too long ago, and I only moved a few feet. But I did feel like I'd gone ages without food and my powers felt a tad bit drained."
"So, you need to make sure your energy levels are kept up, should anyone call for you and you need to Orb further than what you've done today." Thorin hums.
"Which means we will need to train you more, we will need to test this theory, of how far you can Orb back and forth, and what it does to you."
"I'm sorry if it got your hopes up for a bit, thinking that I'd be able to Orb to the mountain and get the Arkenstone for you. Or at least take someone with me, I did it with one of the Spirit's but they're magical beings, I don't know what would happen if I was to Orb with one of you." Murmurs around the camp distract me for a moment, but Kili's hand on mine pulls my attention back to him.
"I wasn't thinking about that, I was thinking more along the lines of going somewhere you've visited before, somewhere nice. Somewhere you could get away, you know, from all of this, just for a little while, if we get too much for you." I smile at his concern for me. He uses his other hand to gesture to the others in the camp as an afterthought. "Somewhere, you can be alone. Somewhere private." More fire spreads up my body at that, paired with the fire in his gaze and his touch it's a wonder I haven't accidentally set something on fire. I usually lose control when my emotions get the best of me.
"Ermm." I stutter back unintelligible words but he just grins and that sets me off. The fire that had all but become charred pieces of wood and dwindling smoke, ignites into a roaring blaze. "Ah, woah, woah." I quickly say, using my free hand to snuff if it out, the others looking on very amused at the sight. I clear my throat and look away when I see Fili and Bilbo's grins.
"Something to think about then and maybe when you're powers are strong enough and you're confident enough, you might just be able to take someone along with you." He trails off leaving all sorts of scenarios to play out in my head. He lets go of my hand gently before taking my empty bowl and standing, grinning down at me the entire time. Not that I looked up, otherwise God knows what my powers will do next.
"Move out in 10 minutes, Nori, Ori, ready the ponies, everybody else, pack up." Thorin commands, his gaze not wavering from mine, having witnessed the exchange between me and Kili. There's something in his eyes that I can't quite identify so I swallow harshly before nodding at him and averting my gaze, finding his gaze to be penetrating, right to the bone.
Alright, tell me what you think!
