Disclaimer : I own neither Wednesday or Harry Potter.
"What are you doing?" A bored 12 year old Wednesday said towards the weirdly dressed boy who held a rather large tome and a large silly hat.
Infact she was attracted to the rather dour looking tome as it looked like something she could find out of her own home.
She had been taking a walk trying to see if she could escape the dreadfully gleeful atmosphere of her parents with no such luck.
So contemplating the infinite suffering of life she had seen this rather strangely dressed boy and decided she needed to immediately investigate.
Watching him turn towards her she looked at his green eyes humming as she waited for his answer.
Seeing the conflicting thoughts on his face she heard him say." Well...if you have to know. I'm trying to add magical properties to this plant." as he turned kneeling down gesturing to said plant.
Wednesday could only raise a curious eyebrow at the statement.
Kneeling with him Wednesday observed the plant with a keen eye also seeing the rather beautiful crafted circular shape surrounding it with a massive amount of symbols ingraved inside.
Looking at it transfixed for a second she looked towards the strange boy who was no doubt the orgin and said " Asclepias meadii, Mead's milkweed a rather rare poisonous plant not fit for consumption. You're rather lucky to find it but why do you need it? Do you have plans to have your family killed?"
Looking at the boy who was staring at her owlishly she nodded in confirmation thinking 'Not for murder then.'
"No. No family killing I'm afraid. A bit late for that. It's just this plant was much more receptive to absorbing magic than the others but it's still not enough" Harry said glum glaring at the flower.
'Magic?' Wednesday thought thinking about her grandmother and thing.
She never really thought about it much but.. magic was real huh? And this boy was clearly knowledgeable about it as well.
Looking to him as she glanced around seeing other symbols surrounding more plants no doubt him trying them out she said " What does this circle do and how does it make a plant gain magical properties?"
She took a bite of the hook. She was awfully curious about it and though reluctant to show such dreadful enthusiasm she couldn't help it.
Even the most morbid minded child couldn't. It was simply wired in their brains.
Hearing the boy smack his lips glancing at her no doubt deciding her fate she said " Don't worry if you don't want me to tell I'll take it to my hopefully early grave."
She didn't mind keeping it a secret from her family. Infact the more she thought about it the more she wanted to do it.
Seeing his slow nod she nearly cheered before settling on a rather eerie grin causing the boy to look at her in concern.
For himself or her was yet to be seen.
"Okay since you promised I can tell you." He said a bit uncertain scooting closer gesturing her foward as Wednesday did so looking down deeply intrigued.
'You would need a very steady hand to do that. He has some practice using knives. Or something similiar.' She thought as her mind screamed to her 'A rival!' before she squashed that thought.
"So these symbols you can call them runes though they have many names are here to interact with magic." The boy said pulling out a beautifully crafted tiny silver dagger red gems adorning it as well as symbols upon its blade.
Looking at the blade in hunger Wednesday was immediately jealous. 'I'll have to ask mother to get me one too. Of course mine will be longer.'
"Hey! Are you listening!" The boy said clutching his dagger close to his chest feeling threatened.
'As he should.' She thought reigning in her greed.
If he didn't know about magic she would probably swiped it from him. Though that option was still on the table.
"Of course I am." Wednesday said in a deadpan concealing her thoughts.
Never let your next move be known. Rule number 1.
"Hmpf. What did I say then?" The boy said snooty looking at her in disbelief at the lie that seemed to have the bare minimum of effort put in it.
Clearly she was just drooling over his sword uhh dagger. His!
"These runes have to be slightly adjusted every 30 minutes do to the ever changing flow of magic. You also said the runes don't have to be perfectly drawn just that the intent has to be perfectly communicated otherwise they will have no effect. Though if they are perfectly drawn the effects will be bolstered massively." She said as a tiny wicked grin surfaced out of her control at seeing his pale face.
Wednesday Friday Addams was a multi tasker and he better remember.
"Ahahaha! Let's move on." The boy said obviously trying to get out the embarrassing situation with the blunt topic change.
Typical boy behavior.
Wenesday however would not have it as she coughed looking down at him.
His face crumpling the boy quickly coughed out something she didn't care to hear.
Raising a pointy brow she kept the sterner than usual face.
'It's like I'm talking to Hermione!' The boy though dropping his head as he said " I'm sorry okay?!"
Wenesday tapping her chin nodded saying " I'll accept it for now."
Sighing the boy turned back to the circle squinting his eyes in embarrassment as the admittedly pretty girl came closer again.
"Like I was saying" He started off sarcastically heavily hinting at the usual follow up ' Before I was rudely interrupted' turning his head away from her eyes ignoring it intentionally.
"These runes are made to passively draw in the ambient magic and filter out all but the most malleable non harmful parts before infusing it into the plant." He said looking down at the failure.
"I haven't worked out exactly how to give it specific characteristics however that isn't the problem. It's that it's taking too long to mutate! By the time it actually does something I'll have grand kids!' He said in frustration, palming the dagger nearly waving it to showcase his thoughts.
It was clear why he was so agitated if it took that long Wednesday thought.
Who wanted to do magic when you already had a foot in the grave?
Wenesday nodded in understanding looking at the plant to him asking "Can't you just find plants that have already mutated? It seems much easier."
Glancing at her he said " This place doesn't have any magical plants. Trust me I've checked. And even if it did? That means I can't see them. Then that would mean I would have to go carving another runic circle over every single plant to measure how much magic it accumulated... Do you understand how crazy that is?" he said sighing not even thinking about doing it.
'It does sound crazy.' Wenesday thought using the clues he left to make a picture.
'So somewhere out there has plants that are noticeably magical in origin huh?' She thought humming at the gleem of information he gave smoothing her dress out standing.
"Can't you just take more magic and put it in?" She said a bit confused on how the specfics were.
Harry nodded then shook his head saying " It's true more magic will make the process go faster but there's only so much magic you can draw in so fast without overloading the runes because of the need to filter it for the right type of magic. This circle was based on magics humans could use so I'd have no clue how to even interact with the others let alone use them to speed up mutation. "
He was hurting his head trying to figure out how to get around it. And the hat just had too much knowledge for him to actively pinpoint something.
"So what you need is a already filtered source so you can skip the filter part?" Wednesday said correctly hitting the nail on the hammer.
Nodding a tad suprised she saw the boy say " Right on the money. You're pretty good at this."
Inclining her head in acknowledgment at the compliment she thought about a solution wanting to solve this little conundrum.
She was loathed to admit it but this day had gotten so much better. And the world looked far more intresting than it once did.
'Ugh.' She thought closing her eyes in pain at the admittance of life being anything other than positively dreary.
"Do you have anything else that's magical that can help?" Wenesday said looking towards him inquiring getting over her bout of self incflicted mental harm.
The boy shook his head sadly confirming what she deduced.
"Are you magical?" she said sounding it out slowly.
'What the heck kind of question is that?' Harry thought before nodding hesitantly confused.
"To be more specific your body contains magical properties? " She said to the stunned boy who finally caught on getting a wary head nod.
"Have you tried using that?" She quickly came out saying not beating around the bush.
"Have I tried using what?" The boy looked at her like she was crazy.
"Keep up! Your body have you used it in your experiment?" She said leaning foward getting the boy to lean back.
Seeing the quick headshake she said "Well get on with it!"
Looking at her like she said something completely insane the boy pulled out tbe dagger as he slowly carved new symbols.
Watching deeply fascinated at the certified art, Wednesday leaned over his shoulder tracing each cut with her wide eyes
'Do they need a special material to contain magic? Are those symbols on the blade the reason why?' She thought glancing at it.
Seeing him gulp glancing at her she knew he was hesitating at the final step.
"Don't punk out now!" She said glaring at him in annoyance.
Didn't he know there was no gain without pain?
Watching as he flinched she peered at the blade slowly descending onto his finger.
Seeing it still at him hesitating again she immediately gripped both of his hands doing it herself.
"Don't be a baby. It's just a little nick." She said at the unnecessary shaking as she drew blood over the circle.
Watching as it glowed letting go of the hand not seeing the boy suck his finger glaring at her, she watched as the plant slowly gained orange spots.
"Well. It would seem it worked." She said lips twitching glancing at him seeing his wide eyes.
Of course she wasn't prepared for the one armed hug that followed as she froze for a second before quickly scrambling away glaring at him.
"What are you alergic to hugs or something?" The boy said with wide eyes at the overreaction.
Dang even he didn't react like that and he thought he was pretty bad.
Wednesday glaring at him nodded sharply saying " That is indeed the case! Also badly dressed boys as well!" She said referring to the ridiculous robes.
Face twitching thinking something he got up before a mischievous smile lit his face. 'You cut my finger, so this is just fair play '
Wednesday seeing him quickly ran already knowing what was going on in his mind.
To late however.
"Gotcha!" The boy said gripping her from behind in a bear hug pushing through the uncomfortable feeling of starting contact to get his well deserved revenge.
"Put me down now. Or I'll gut you alive and flay the skin from your bones." Wednesday said in a deadpan squirming at the disgusting warm feeling.
'I'm dying and not in the way I want!' She thought wiggling like a worm succesfully escaping.
Rolling away getting up she immediately took a defensive stance glaring at the bearer of the wide smile that had open arms her pale ear tips red.
"You know. I'd probably be concerned if I didn't know you're acting like this from a hug." He said feinting foward as if about to rush her getting her to jump back like a startled porcupine.
Giggling feeling he got his revenge he put his arms down not looking at her as he went to pick up his tome glancing at his finger.
Glancing back at her still in defensive stance he said " I'll see you the same time tommorow here! Cya!" As he walked away dissappearing.
Glaring at him as he left she puffed out air glancing around in caution making her way back home.
'Stupid boys. I'll wipe that smirk off his face and replace it with a knife! '
Slamming open the door she walked inside ignoring everyone as she stomped to her room to 'plan'.
Mortica glancing at her daughter did a double take seeing the smile on her face blinking in suprise.
"My dear did something good happen today?" She said inquiring concerned.
Stopping hearing her mother adressing her Wednesday glared at her at the insinuation that any thing good just happened as she said, "And how exactly did you conjure such a inane idea, mother?"
Fluffing her newspaper Mortica said " Well for one that tiny smile your sporting, next your cheeks and the tip of your ears are red. And finally-" She was interrupted when the door to her room slammed shut in a panic.
"Hmm." Mortica said wondering what exactly could get her little raven in such a tizzy.
Inclining her neck to the side feeling the familar fingers she bared it allowing them to run down her throat.
"Tish? What is wrong with our little girl?" Gomez said in concern.
Mortica thinking about it for a second said "There are 3 reasons I have gathered so far."
Clearing her throat she said " First she's hiding a murder, second it's a boy, and lastly puberty."
Gomez nodded at them all before pausing on puberty asking " My dear what do you mean by puberty exactly? I don't understand how it is relevant "
Mortica rolling her eyes pulled him down before whispering in his ears.
"Ah. Perhaps I'll leave it to you then my sweet?" Gomez said sweating leaving immediately the classic reaction for any dad.
Mortica looking at the sudden cowardly act rolled her eyes as she said " Men" knowing he wouldn't be back for some time hoping the conversation ended before he returned.
Folding her paper resting it down she slowly glided the stars preparing herself to educate Wednesday on the blossoming of a woman.
Knocking on the door she opened it hearing heavy sigh accompanied with permission.
"My dear? I think we need to have a talk?" She said glancing at the newly embedded knives in the wall.
10 to be exact.
Wednesday scrunched her face glancing at her mother saying " It isn't anything mushy is it? I will have to pass if it is so."
She had enough of that feeling from today for a life time.
Shaking her head at the typical response she sat on the bed saying " No. Well it can be if you have a impressive imagination. We need to talk about exactly what happens for a woman during puberty."
Wednesdays flinching peered at her wildy saying " And what exactly brought on this decision mother...!?"
It was truly out of left field. Completely unexpected.
"You came back rather flushed this afternoon unlike yourself and because you didn't tell us why exactly... we or I anyways decided to cover all bases." She said as way of explanation.
Conflicted Wednesday said " So if I tell you what happened, you will spare me this boorish torture?"
"Spare isn't the word I'd use. More like delaying the inevitable." Mortica said patting the side of her gesturing her to come.
Dragging her feet deciding to delay her torture rather than suffer it now she sat down beside her clamping up.
Mortica glanced at her as she waited 2 minutes not getting any response.
Deciding to scare her a bit she began speaking " When a man meets a woman-"
"Stop! I-I will speak Ok?! Just give me a minute." Wednesday said huffing glaring at her.
Smilling at the plan working Mortica listened to her.
Her eyebrows climbing higher and higher Mortica could not stop the smile on her face if she tried.
"What is with that vile expression you have mother?" Wednesday said feeling some apprehension.
"Hmm~ Let me get this straight. You found a new friend whom you played magic with. He then hugged you goodbye and now your embarrassed? " Mortica said sighing dreamily.
Wednesday looked at her in deep and utter shock. She just spent the last 10 minutes describing in gruesome detail the arduous torment she went through and this was what her mother got from it?
How did you even-
"Unfortunately for you, playing with boys means you most certainly need the talk. And no I dont care if you already think you know." Mortica said smilling down at her in a benevolent manner.
Looking up at the devil sporting the smile Wednesday took a furtive glance towards the open door.
Wednesday making a break for it was stopped when Thing blocked the door off closing it and putting a chair on the handle.
Wednesday slumped on the door as she glanced back at her mother thinking. 'My vengeance will be swift and without mercy.'
"Morning!" The boy said as he came into the clearing.
Though he paused at seeing the girls appearance.
Bloodshot eyes, a frumpled black dress and messed up pigtails. One Wednesday Adams was a right mess.
"Are you all right?" The male voice said after a minute in concern.
"...You are the bain of my painful nonending existence. When you die I will scatter your ashes over my home so that you may never be put to rest even in death."
"Oh. That's sweet of you."
"Hello Mrs. Addams!" Harry said waving towards her as he was dragged inside the house.
Mortica glancing up with a smile said "Good Morning Harry dear are you well?"
It was always nice to have him over.
Nodding Harry about to respond he was yanked away as Wednesday said " Do not engage with conversation with mother. She will trap you in a endless abyss of warm smothering torment. Slowly wearing away at your sanity with well meaning words and warm hugs."
Blinking as they went down stairs Harry said " That actually sounds kinda nice?"
Looking at him like he was insane she turned foward saying "Don't be a fool."
Shrugging Harry looked around at the modified basement that now looked like your standard potion lab.
"I would like to succeed in this potion experiment today so let's get to it." Wednesday said putting on her new safety equipment.
"...Wednesday what is that? Why?" He said in confusion as he pulled the hat off digging around pulling out jars and vials.
"It seemed appropriate at the time... and there was a sale." She said looking down at the black lab equipment.
Sighing Harry said nothing picking up the jars placing them on the tables in order.
Sitting down he dug in his hat taking out a quill and ink along with parchment and a book.
Opening the book he said " Ok experiment #9 for the potion -"
"Get on with it Harry." He heard from the grumpy girl.
"Get on with it Harry." He mocked lowly making sure she couldn't him.
Only god knew what she would try to do to him.
"Alright! 125 fluid ounces of water brought to a boil." He said towards her writting down the steps.
"5 ounces of crushed exhibit A. Along with 10 fluid ounces of liquified exhibit C." He said to her.
Wednesday following the orders did so making sure to take extra care not to mess up.
"When purple smoke rises stir clockwise 5 times and counterclockwise 3 times." He said glancing up in excitement seeing the smoke.
This was the best they ever did so far!
And Wednesday knew that too if the twitching of her lips were anything to go by.
"Next Harry dont get distracted!" She said as he quickly put his head in the game.
"After done with stirring add in 5 ounces powdered exhibit D and wait 5 minutes for the final step." He said quickly getting the timer setting it down.
Wednesday stepped back after doing so hearing the bubbling as if it was about to explode.
Hiding behind the counter with Harry they both watched as they smoke got more and more pronounced during the 5 minutes.
Jumping hearing the timer Harry hit it as he looked towards Wednesday nodding.
Taking a deep breath nodding back she got up listening to him " Take 5 ounces of diced exhibt B and stir counterclockwise twice!"
Dumping it in she took the skinny tube of glass stirring once before quickly hiding again.
Both kids watched as the concoction bubbled in deep anticipation.
Holding there breaths they released it when the concoction died down not exploding like the anticipated.
Glancing at Wednesday catching her own they each approached warily.
"I'm not doing it." Wednesday said resolute not about to die to such a thing.
Harry looked at her in shock " I thought you said you wanted to die?! Shouldn't you be front and center?! You can atleast save me!"
Turning away not hearing it she ignored him.
Gulping Harry went foward glancing inside the cauldron. Breathing out he took a vile and a ladel as he poured it in capping it quickly moving away.
Wednesday who was waiting for something to happen said in disappointment " He didn't explode in a gory mess?" Getting a glare from said he.
Both children looked at the potion on the desk as Wednesday said " You never actually told me what it was for you know?"
Harry said nothing pulling out a picture of her family as she looked at it in suprise .
" Your Mom gave it to me." He said explaining pulling of the cap as he dumped it on the photo.
Both children watched as the photo slowy started moving showing the family inside as if they were alive.
"The Developing Solution potion. It allows pictures to move." Harry said with triumph.
'Can't we do that already?!' Wednesday thought in a deadpan looking at it.
"It is rather fascinating I suppose." She said conceding looking at the motions.
She was glaring at Puglsey who was scratching his head as her parents were being lovey dovey as usual. The photo went through the exact sane motions as they moved around before standing still for what was no doubt the camera.
"Hmm shall we give it to your parents? They already know I think and it would be a nice gift." Harry said a bit weirdly as he begun unpacking several vials and containers.
Wednesday glanced at him in confusion at the melancholy that surrounded him.
'What on earth is happening.'
"Harry? Shouldn't you be packing up?" Wednesday said a bit confused seeing him unpack so many things.
Perking up Harry said" Ah that? I'm just making preparations for future potion making." He responded with a mysterious smile.
Though it came out rather pitiful.
Still feeling the weird air Wednesday said nothing. If he didn't want to talk about it then it was no skin off her back.
Though she still glanced at him from time to time despite what she thought.
Walking up the stairs to the main floor Harry took the picture saying " I'll carry it to them and here take this." He said handing her a ring.
Picking it up in confusion Wednesday looked at him imploring .
Smilling saying nothing Harry separated from her going towards Mortica asking for a moment of her time.
Glancing at the ring Wednesday looked at the runes adorning it for a second admiring them.
'This is really weird. And I have a rather foreboding feeling. I would usually welcome such a thing but..' She looked up to see Harry's departure feeling the emotion come full force at the faces.
"Cya Guys! Let's meet again!" Harry said waving towards the makeshift family as he walked out.
Stopping glancing back at Wednesday one more time looking her in the eyes he hestiated as he left without another word.
Wednesday watched as if a spectator of her own body simply standing as he left with the ominous sentence.
Unable to move her feet she glanced at her mother who looked away slightly though she caught the sadness.
Then to her father whom smiled in sympathy saying nothing.
Blinking she walked to her room in silence feeling like the walls were closing in a tad.
Waking up Wednesday looked up at her dreary ceiling.
She did not want to get up feeling like it would not be a good day at all.
Alas she did so knowing it was impossible to stay inside all day.
Dragging herself downstairs after washing up and changing clothing she paused.
Because she could see a rather large moving portrait of her entire family.
Uncle Fester, Lurch, Thing, Pugsley, Mother, Father and her...
Waving towards it idly she went downstairs seeing her mother and father waiting for her grim faced.
Looking at them silently she sat across not saying anything.
Looking at the unopened letter on the table she glanced at her mother getting a nod.
Reaching out with a shaking hand she picked it up hestiating for a moment glancing up getting strength from the silent stares of her parents.
Taking a deep breath she opened it unfurling the parchment reading.
Dear Wednesday,
I know this may come as a shocker but I'm not from that world. And no not like Romeo and Juliet like really I'm from a entire different dimension! It's eerily similar to your very own down to everything but things revolving magic!
Anyways I could have probably told you this in person but...you get kinda scary when you're ready and I didn't want to be locked in the basement as a potion slave to your whims.
Now enough with the jokes. I'm really sorry for leaving like this if you got the letter. Didn't really have the courage to tell you. Ironic considering my school house though you won't understand.
Well I just wanted to say I enjoyed the time we spent together even if you get a bit rough, and murder happy and maca maca well you know that word probably.
I gave Thing a little list to leave on your bed when you're reading this. It's a tiny ritual list that I could make in my short time here based on the materials we discovered. Things like boosting strength and agilty just some minor stuff but I'm sure you'll like it.
Your ring has some special properties and one is turning into a magic knife so be careful! Though its enchanted against such things accidents could still happen. Maybe I don't really know. It's able to make magic runes so go nuts!
I also left a book on potions in the basement so you can use it. So I hope you're not too mad at me for leaving or maybe you're happy. It's hard to get a read on you, to be honest.
I don't think I can come back. The way I did seems very unstable! So I can't risk it. I may die. So I hope you and your family have good lives.
Anyways it's time for me to go so, cya.
Slices and Stabs.
Harry.
Blinking at the letter, she blandly noticed new stains on it wondering how they got there.
Glancing up she felt 2 pairs of arms around her as she said nothing being hugged by her parents.
She simply stayed silent not knowing what may come out if she decided to start talking.
Ignoring the burning in her throat stubbornly refusing to focus on these feelings she could only think one thing.
'That idiot forgot to leave the potion book...'
Watched a single episode of Wednesday and thought it looked pretty neat.
Never watched the Addams family so if the personalities seem off then sorry.
Ignore the magic mumbo jumbo aswell. So long as you get some idea its alright.
No idea where in the story to start it honestly.
