To celebrate the 24th anniversary of the first Final Destination film, I decided to write a fic based on an idea I came up with upon watching the film back in October. I wanted to see what happened after Alex saved Clear from the car explosion at the end of the film and how would his parent would have reacted following his hospitalization. This will take place before the final scene of the film, which took place six months later.
Disclaimer: I do not own the Final Destination franchise. It belongs to New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Hospital, Mt. Abraham, New York
The last thing Alex Browning remembered was being stuck down by the explosion caused by the electric cable when he had saved Clear Rivers from her own death. Just as the world was fading in his eyes, he heard Agent Wiener and his partner Schreck trying to revive him. Believing he couldn't respond, the two agents called the emergency and rushed Alex to a hospital.
There, the doctors attempted to revive him by using the electric defilibrator on him. Though at first he couldn't respond, it was a miracle that Alex actually ended up surviving the incident, as he was placed under care.
As he struggled to open his eyes, Alex sensed his vision was getting blurry as he found himself in a hospital bed. He couldn't believe the possiblity of being alive and thought that he was dead, that he was now in the afterlife.
"Hey, Alex."
Upon hearing a voice greeting him, Alex turned around and saw his parents, Ken and Barbara, sitting next to him. When they heard Alex was hospitalised following the explosion, Ken and Barbara were concerned for him and wanted to support their son. Both of them were relieved when they heard Alex managed to survive.
"Mom. Dad. What are you doing here?" Alex asked.
"We were worried about you. When we heard about the incident at Clear's house, you scared us." Barbara told her son.
"We didn't want to imagine the possibility of losing at such a young age, but when Clear called us and told us that you survived, we made sure to stay by your side." Ken explained.
"She called you?" Alex wondered.
"Yeah. She assured us you were okay now. You're lucky to have her as a friend." Ken told Alex.
Alex turned around and saw Clear sitting next to him.
"How are you feeling, Alex?" Clear asked.
"Never been better." Alex quipped.
"You know, I never imagined she would care about you, since the two never spoke to each other for four years until now." Ken inquired.
"Yeah." Alex nodded.
"The doctor told us you'll be out of here tomorrow. You'll have lot of explaining to do." Barbara said.
"I suppose you two have a lot to talk about. We'll be outside speaking with the doctors." Ken told Alex.
Just as Ken and Barbara left to speak with the doctors about Alex's condition, Alex turned around to talk with Clear.
"Thank you." Alex said to Clear.
"That's what friends are for, right?" Clear said.
"Yeah, I guess so." Alex nodded.
"You saved my life twice and I wanted to repay that. When I was stuck in my car and was about to get caught in the explosion, I felt as if my life was passing by in front of my eyes. That I could be with my dad now." Clear explained. "But then you came around and sacrificed your live to save me. I was scarred for you."
Alex smiled as he realized that the both of them had finally conquered Death, or so they thought.
"It's all over now, baby." Clear assured. "He's not come after us anymore."
Clear reached out to Alex and kissed him in his forehead.
"Let's hope the hospital doesn't explode on us tomorrow." Alex joked.
Clear playfully punched his arm and giggled. "Stop it."
Both Alex and Clear laughed. Though Alex was doubtful that Death might come back to take out, he was now happy that he had his loved ones beside him and he could now focus on living his life, having temporarily beaten Death.
And that's the end of the story. What bothered me the most about the ending of the first film is that Alex's parents weren't mentioned or the aftermath following the incident at Clear's house, so I decided to add this bonus scene to explore what happened after Alex saved Clear. Since this fic takes place six months before the ending, where Carter gets killed in Paris, both Alex and Clear have defeated Death for now.
As for Alex's father saying that neither Alex or Clear haven't spoken to each other for four years, Clear mentioned in the first film that the two of them haven't spoken one word to each other during their time at high school.
Let me know your thoughts on this story and I hope you enjoyed it. Stay safe everyone and take care.
