Run To The King
Mary Rivers was upstairs in her families home. She was putting the last of the bathroom towels away. She place the last one on the shelf when she heard the front door open and close. Mary smiled and went to greet her father. Her father was a Major in the British Air Force. Mary got to the bottom of the stairs and heard her father yelling at her mother. Mary moved closer to the side of the doorway to hear what was being said. She looked in and saw George in her mother's face screaming at her.
"She isn't mine! Why didn't you tell me that Mary belonged to that bastard!" George turned around and saw Mary standing there looking at him.
"I should have known that you were not mine! You look just like that fucking American trash!" Elizabeth looked past her husband to Mary. She moved herself to where she was between Mary and George.
"George, I was one month pregnant when you and I got together. I told you that I was carrying another man's child." Elizabeth tried to calm the man down. George looked at his wife with hate in his glassy eyes. The two women saw this and backed away from him. Mary had moved from the edge of the doorway to within the hallway. Elizabeth walked backwards toward her daughter.
"You did tell me that yes, but you never said that it was his child!" George turned and walked away from them disappearing into his study. Elizabeth ran over to her daughter and grabbed Mary by the arm. Mary watched the doorway to the room where George had disappeared to.
"Mary you have to run." Her mother told her in a low voice. Mary looked at her mother with wide eyes.
"But mother?" Mary started to say. Elizabeth moved them to the hall closet and opened the door. She reached inside and got out a small bag. She took out a paper out of the bag, and pushed it into Mary's hands.
"Go to the air base, ask for General Butler. Tell him what is going on here tonight and what will happen." Elizabeth turned her head away to hide her small smile.
"But mother you and I don't know what is going to happen?"
"Mary my dear child I do know what will happen to one of us tonight. Now tell Butler to get you to your father by anyways means necessary." Mary was about to tell her mother that everything was going to be alright; when she heard George walking around in his study. Mary heard a low click within the room that George was in. Mary's eyes widen as she looked at her mother who was looking toward the study.
"Mama?" She whispered.
"Mary run; he will kill you if you are still here."
"I will tell you something Lizzie." Both women heard from the study. "I am about to send both mother and daughter to hell where they belong!" Both women's eyes widen. Elizabeth opened the front door and grabbed Mary. Elizabeth pushed her daughter out of the door.
"For the love of god Mary run and don't come back no matter what you hear." Elizabeth kissed her daughter on the forehead and slammed the door in her face. Mary backed away from the house that she secretly hated. She looked threw the small window that was in the door; she saw George standing in front of her mother. The last thing she saw, and heard was him telling her mother something while raising his arm up with the gun in his hand. He pointed the gun at her mother's head; while her mother's eyes widen.
Mary ran off the porch and to the street when she heard the shot. She then started to run toward the air base. Mary was half way down the block when she heard a shot come from behind her. She quickly ran down a side alley. Mary had to lose George, because if not then she knew that she was going to die this night, and that she would never see her father ever again. Mary ducked behind many trash bins that was in the alleyway. She folded the papers, and place them into her upper undergarment. Laying down onto her stomach; she tried to hide herself better. Mary placed her trembling hands over her mouth. Trying to calm her breathing down; she knew that George would kill her next. Closing her eyes tightly; she heard George run into the alleyway that she was hiding in. She knew that he was only a few feet away from the trash bins that she was hiding behind.
George was panting hard from where he had ran after the girl that he did indeed thought was his. The anger grew within him again. 'How could this have happened? I knew that Elizabeth was with that trash before I had met her.' He thought to himself. He never thought that his wife that he had once loved so much; didn't tell him that Mary was not his. He had been out drinking with a friend of his when his friend told him the truth about who Mary's real father was. George had gotten so angry that he had hit his friend, breaking the man's jaw. George could not believe this, and didn't want to. That American had out ranked him so quickly. When he had first met him he had liked him a lot, but now he was still a Major and that bastard was now a…
George was brought out of his thoughts, and became aware of his surroundings as the air raid sirens started to scream. George smiled to himself. He knew that Mary was hiding somewhere close by. He took in a deep breath and yelled into the alleyway.
"If the air raid doesn't kill you; then I will find you little girl. I don't care where you are; I will find you and I will blow your brains out just like your whore of a mother!" George stood there for a few seconds to see if that would scare Mary out of hiding. He knew that he couldn't hear her make a noise cause of the sirens. He yelled again in anger, and ran to save himself from the soon to be falling bombs'.
Mary moved to a crouching position, and slowly looked around the side of the trash bin. With large eyes; she saw George run off. Mary was scared out of her mind at what he had yelled out to her. 'I have to get to Papa.' She told herself. Standing up slowly; she quickly ran out of the alleyway. She had to make it to the air base. Once there she knew that she would be safe. Mary ran in the opposite direction from George. She was soon on a road that led to the air base. When she heard a man's voice yell out her name; she stopped dead in her tracks. Mary turned slowly toward the man's voice. 'No don't be him!' She screamed in her head. Her eyes watched as the man run toward her. Mary was shaking with fear, but she would fight for her life if she had too. When the man ran into the street light. Mary smiled wide when she saw that the man was a friend of hers. Mary threw her arms around his neck.
"Bash!" Captain Sebastian Flint moved his hands to her arms, and pulled Mary away from him.
"Mary! What the hell!" He yelled.
"I will tell you everything later, but I have to get to the air base NOW!" Mary yelled at him. The young man went to say something, but stopped when he could hear the sirens do the final warning before the attack. He then grabbed Mary, and pulled her into his car. He then quickly drove to the air base. Once they were out of the town; Mary looked in the mirror to see the first bombs' hit the town. She closed her eyes, and prayed for all those that didn't find shelter in time. Bash looked over at Mary and sighed. He wished that he could tell her that everything was going to be alright. He smiled slightly when he remembered back to when they had first met. Mary was only ten at the time. She had asked him for his name and he had given it to her. She had only smiled at him and told him.
'I like your name, but I hope you don't mind I am going to call you Bash for now on." Mary had smiled at him and walked off. Mary was always full of life and energy, but now Bash looked over to see the sixteen year old woman watching her hometown burn to the ground. Bash moved his hand over, and took one of hers into his.

Mary was now sitting in front of General Butler's desk in his office. Butler was looking at Mary with his mouth open, and eyes widen. He knew who Mary's father was, and he had thought that George had enough brains to know that Mary wasn't his! Elizabeth had left his son in September. Then when Elizabeth had came to a party with George when they were first together; Elizabeth was a month and a half along. They all knew who Mary's real father was. Well all but two that is. Butler knows his self adopted son, and either his son didn't do the math on Mary's age, or just didn't want to break Elizabeth and George up. General Butler was brought out of his thoughts when the young Captain cleared his throat. Butler looked at Mary who was looking down at her hands. Her long jet black hair was around her face. Butler frowned and knew that this girl had been threw hell tonight. He did wondered if Mary had always known who her father was this whole time?
"Mary?" Mary looked up at him with watering eyes. Bash frown when he saw a tear fall from her whiteish blue eyes. He remembered joking with her in the past about her eyes. He would call her Snowy; mostly because her eyes were actually white with just a hint of blue in them. He started calling her this, because everyone on the base had always called her Snow. Even her father would call her Snow, but Bash could remember when Mary's father would tell her to go to The King and Queen. He was meaning her mother and father. He had once almost told him that she was with The King; meaning him, but he had to stop himself. Then a thought came to his mind. What if Mary's father didn't want her? He knew that would hurt Mary so deeply. Then from that thought came a different one a much more scary one. If her father didn't want her; would Mary take her own life? He watch as a tear ran down her cheek.
"Yes General?" Her voice was low, and shaky.
"Mary, did you always know that George was not your real father?" He asked her. Mary nodded her head.
"Yes I did. I was four when I found my birth certificate. There above the word father and on the line was his name. I asked mama about it."
"What did she say?" General Butler asked her.
"She told me that he was my father, and that he was not told about me. That no one was to know that he was my father, and I his daughter. She told me to never tell George, or anyone." General Butler looked away. He in a way knew why no one should have known about this; George may have tried to kill his son. But he also knew that not telling his son was wrong, and he should have been told before all of this had happened. He had wanted to tell him before he had went to fight in Germany, but he couldn't bring himself to do so.
"What is going to happened to me?" Mary asked the General.
"Well Mary, I have to send you to your father."
"Your joking right?" Captain Flint cut in. "He is in Germany, in a POW camp and you want to send her there?"
"Yes. I have no choice. Your father will keep you safe, and the Kommandant will also keep you safe." General Butler was about to go on; when Captain Flint cut in again.
"Are you sure about that? Are you sure that he will not kill her, or use Mary against him to get him to talk?" General Butler looked at the young man with a warning look. Mary watched as her friend moved back into his chair.
"No he will not. From what your father has told me about him Mary. The Kommandant is a very good hearted man, and in away has helped your father out…unknowingly of course. But you will be safe from George. Now Mary it will take three days for you to get to your father." General Butler told her as he got up from his desk and walked to the door to his office. He opened the door and told an unseen person to get a underground agent by the name of Bonnie. Butler turned and motioned his hand for Mary to come to him. Mary got up, and walked over toward him as she held the papers her mother had given her close to her chest. Once by his side Mary looked over as a young woman in her thirties with auburn hair walked into the office. General Butler turned toward Bonnie and told her what to do.
"Yes sir I will get her to her father. But General Butler, where is her father?" Bonnie asked him.
"He is in Stalag 13." He told her. "You will take her to one of our underground agents in Hammelburg. Once there he will take her to Stalag 13 threw the front gate. I will write a letter it will be given to her father and the Kommandant. The letter will say what has happened here and the Mary needs protection from George. I may even put in there for your father to sign you a bodyguard as well Mary." Mary nodded her head. She heard Bonnie agree with Butler that he was right in that. That a sixteen year old pretty girl needed a bodyguard. Mary stood there and didn't know how she felt about this. She was in away happy to finally to be with her father, but in away what if Captain Flint had said would come true? What if they did use her to hurt her father or even the other way around? And would this bodyguard actually keep her safe, or were they not skilled enough to do so? She only hoped that what General Butler had said about this Kommandant was true and the he would help her and help her father.
"Mary?" Mary looked at Bonnie as she heard her name being said.
"Yes?" She asked.
"Are you ready to go?" She asked her.
"Yes I am." Mary smiled and looked over at her friend. Bash had moved and stood beside her now. Mary hugged him and kissed him on the cheek. She then turned and hugged General Butler; who hugged her back. As Mary pulled away Butler told her one last thing.
"Now Mary, I want to know that you have made it safely to Stalag 13 so when you get there." He sighed and smiled at the young girl. "Tell your father to radio me with this code. Snow White is with The King." Mary smiled at him and nodded her head.
Mary walked out of General Butler's office with the underground agent. Her smile grew; when she imagined what her father will say or do when she got there to see him.
