"Do you think you should have left like that? Your brother was really upset," Miles rubbed his neck, skimming over his work.

"Boo hoo, he'll get over it," Miguel read through the sheet Virgil had given him.

"What is that?"

"Some suggestions for HQ mainframe. Ideas and such," he read through, "Food for thought."

"How's homework going?" Jess checked on the boys.

"It's good. Are we about to cook?"

"Yep. The dough is done rising. So you both can help with the knots," she waved them into the kitchen.

They hurried next to her, like ducklings, watching as she separated the dough for each one of them.

"Wash your hands please."

"You sure like to cook, huh?" Miles imitated her in kneading the dough.

"Cooking is soothing, and it's a way I can show my love to others," she expressed, "Virgil only married me because of my cooking. If I recall he proposed to me after eating a pulled beef sandwich I made him."

"It was more than just your cooking, that was just the cherry on top of the perfect cake," the man confirmed, holding GG's hands in an attempt to get him to walk, "You would have to be a fool to let all that go."

"Stretch it out," Jess pointed.

"How did you guys meet?"

Virgil sighed, explaining the years they had known each other as teens and how a friendship blossomed into a courtship after they had dated a few others. None of that love at first sight and highschool sweethearts thing. They both had other romantic experiences before they decided they wanted to be with each other.

"He proposed on a picnic we were having in late spring," Jess pointed out how to add some cheese to the dough before she let Miles put it in the oven, "It was a small wedding though, which I kinda liked at the time."

Virgil sighed, "I was such a sight in black," he put an arm over his head, getting an eye roll from his wife, "Jess was there too, I think."

"Fool," she shook her head.

"And it's been a great ride the whole time," He winked at the boys.

The teen smiled at him, "That's pretty cool. But…" he scurried over to Virgil, "You told my dad you were a hero. What kind were you?"

"Oh, psh," he shrugged, "I did things solo, worked with a group. I once had to take down a whole group of far more experienced superheroes than me when they were being mind controlled," Virgil shook his head, feeling a bit nostalgic, "It was something, buddy."

Miles leaned forward over the couch, "What's your power?"

"Curious," he snickered, gently tapping his nose, "Well, for one, I'm a smart guy. But that's pretty common."

"I don't know if I could just stop, even if I wanted to," Miles sat on the arm of the couch, "Its like…If I don't help and I have the power to, I'm part of the problem."

"That's the outlook most of us have," Jess agreed, grabbing Gunner, "But sometimes being in the midst of the fray just isn't for everyone. And when there is enough help, it's best to take a step back. Even if it's just temporary."

Mig straightened his back, feeling Jess run her nails up and down his spine. He leaned onto her head with a sigh.

The teen nodded, satisfied with the conversation. It was nice hearing about mature heroes and how things were for them. Peter was cool and all, but uhm…wasn't dropping wisdom these days.

"Hey wait," he hopped on Virgil's stomach, "You didn't answer me on what your powers are. Do you have powers?"

The man grunted, "Isn't super strength," he held his palms out, producing small surges of electricity.

Miles eyes widened in amazement.

"Formerly known as Static," he smiled, "We got something in common, don't we?"

"Mmmm," Miles moaned happily as he ate the garlic knot, "It's so good!"

"Taste better when you make it yourself, right?" Virgil dipped his lamb in bbq sauce.

He nodded, continuing to eat. Mig snickered at his reaction to the food.

"Is it good?" He teased the teen.

"Better than empanadas," he jeered, "How is your salad?"

"Blasphemous. Would have been better if it was broccoli to mix into pasta," he turned his nose up, handing Gunner a piece of lettuce.

Miles snickered, stabbing the salad and putting it to his mouth, "Come on, if you don't eat your veggies you'll start to shrink."

Mig narrowed his eyes, biting the veggies, "Mmm, not broccoli," he cut the baked potato and put it to Miles' face, "Eat your carbs or you'll stay small."

"I'm not small," he chewed the tuber.

"I know you two are having fun, but try not to talk with your mouths full. I don't want anyone choking," Jess chided, checking between those two and Gunner. She wanted to make sure the food was cut small enough for him to go at with his little teeth.

"Yes Aunty," Miles leaned over, still playfully feeding Miguel and getting the same treatment.

"Aren't you two having a blast?" Daddy chuckled to himself, finishing off his food, "Finish up boys. Gotta clean up, Gunner demands his show and then it's baths all around."

"Help, he's eating me!" Miles yelped as Mig playfully chewed his arm.

Spider-mom beamed at the silliness.

"Did you swing through a mud puddle?" Virgil teased, washing Miles' face, "How am I supposed to get all these little spots off your cheeks?"

The young Spider-man laughed, "That's not mud, they're my freckles."

"Speckles huh? So it's like marker?"

"No, it's freckles," he smiled, grabbing at the bubble leaker, "I have a duck like this. Mami got him for me," he held up one of the rubber duck toys, "His name is Winston, but he doesn't have a swim tube."

"Winston sounds cool as heck," he unplugged the tub and let him out, "Just like these PJs. Those geese are awesome."

Miles smiled, "I stole them from Mami."

"I mean, y'know. I can't blame you," Virgil laughed.

Jess quietly sang as she rocked, allowing Gunner to nurse as he fell asleep. He got his Sesame Street and it was almost 8, so he could get his full night's sleep in and she could go patrol after.

"Ok guys," she walked out, dressed in her heroine outfit, "I'm gonna head out."

"Are you sure?" Miguel furrowed his brows.

"Yes, honey, mommy has to go out and work. But you two are going to have a good night with daddy," she gave him a kiss, "Be good," she turned to her husband, gifting him a kiss, "Be good," she could see Miles puckering her lips. His goofy face made her laugh as he got a kiss too, "Be good."

With that settled she was out the door for a night of being Spider-woman.

"Well boys, I don't have to work tomorrow and it's way too early for you guys to go to bed," Virgil began, "What do you say to a horror movie and game marathon?"

Of course they were down for the challenge. Miles didn't even know the last time he saw a good horror movie!

They built a blanket fort in the front room and had all the proper ambience as they spent hours watching classics and newer movies.

"He went down that hallway," Miguel warned.

Virgil tsked, tossing some popcorn into his mouth, "You're gonna run into it."

"It wont let me progress any other way!"

"Go backwards."

"You SAW me go the otherway. There was nothing there for me, I have to go forward," he slowly progressed, feeling all the anxiety as he forced his character to peek around the corner. Ok, it was clear, no weird creatures.

"No, no not that room!" Miguel tried to warn

Miles flinched, "Shut up, shut up, shut up! You're not helping!" A screeching from the TV caused all three to shout. Miles tried to hurry from the monster.

"Dude you're screwed!" Virgil pointed, "Go to the locker!"

"There isn't one!" he hurried down the hall, "I didn't even look at him! Why is he mad at me!?"

Miles screamed when his character was stabbed through.

"Well, there goes my legacy," Virgil heard the baby crying from upstairs, "Go get him."

"My turn," Miguel smirked, taking the controller as Miles huffed.

"I'm ready to watch another movie, this game is on bull," he wiped his forehead, "I didn't even know that it was based off a movie."

The trio stared at the screen, feeling the nervous and tense nature as the warehouse was traversed. It was a nice reprieve to have a smart character that was just trapped in an unfortunate situation. They were so deep into it that none of them heard the motorcycle pull up. All of them flinched when they heard the key hit the knob.

Jess sighed, wiping her forehead as she strut into her house. Walking in and seeing them all in the fort, she turned, glancing at the tv, "Oh that was such a good movie. Babe, it's like 2 am. Have you all been up this whole time watching horror?"

"Playing it too," Virgil nodded, "How was patrolling?"

A shrug, "It was fine. Please tell me my baby hasn't been up watching with you guys. The one I actually birthed."

"Of course not! What kind of father do you think I am?"

She glared, "Ok, I'm going to go use the toilet and then check on him. If he is not asleep, I'm going to be very upset, husband."

"You go on, sweetheart," he stood, taking her jacket, "I have your pajamas in there for you as well as a towel in the warmer, you just have to turn it on. And while you freshen up I'll make you a light meal, and get the first aid kit to patch you up."

Jess stared at him, "Right. Thanks. I'll just make sure he's good before the shower."

Soon as she was out he whispered to the kids, "I got the food, Miles, get the munchkin to his crib, use the ceiling. Don't go now, she's just running water to catch us slipping. Miguel, you listen to see when it sounds like she's actually peeing, since you have the more sensitive hearing." he hurried to the kitchen having given the assignments out.
