Chapter 3 - Plan
Tris POV
I watch Tobias slip out of the room and quickly force my eyes to dart back to Lynn and Uriah's bickering so they don't notice that he was here.
"Fine, then I'll show you." Uriah says and he flings a knife towards the same muffin they were throwing knives at before; this time it lands in the same spot as Lynn. I quickly fake a yawn to stop them from bickering even more. And so I can hurry and get out of here to find Tobias.
"Sorry guys, I think I'm getting a bit tired from all this training," I say with a airy laugh, "can we meet up tomorrow to keep training?"
Marlene shoots me a thankful smile for saving her from Uriah and Lynn's bickering, and I smile back quickly before returning to my act.
Uriah shrugs. "It is a bit late in the afternoon, and I'm getting kinda hungry..." he concedes. "We'll continue this muffin duel tomorrow and I'll show you that I have better aim than you." he says the last part while giving Lynn a look that read, I am the best and I'll show you!
I had to stifle my laughter at his face before saying "Bye guys, I'll see you at dinner," and then leaving the room to search for Tobias. My heart is pounding. I have not seen Tobias all day, and I'm excited and more than ready for him to give me a damn explanation, otherwise I'm probably going to stab something. Or punch someone.
Surprisingly, the hallways are mostly clear except for a occasional group of young Dauntless talking excitedly and animatedly before they see me, then start to exchange whispers. I guess stabbing Eric before he got executed has earned me a reputation.
I keep my head down as I hurry down to the one place where I can guess he might be: the Dauntless training room. He couldn't possibly be in his apartment; he avoided it like a plague except for bed. I also know he probably won't be with Tori or Harrison. That only leaves the training room. Of course he'd be in the training room, even though he's just about perfect at everything Dauntless fighting, shooting, and throwing.
I turn down the hallway and turn left, going down the hallway of the leader apartments. I spot a flash of green, and blue, and pink before it disappears inside of a apartment. I frown. Green and pink aren't faction colors. Blue can only mean one thing...Erudite.
My heart stops.
I'm too late. Erudite are here. They will take everything. They will kill everyone.
I pick up my speed and turn into a run. I need to tell Tobias.
I race down the hall and quickly throw open the door. I gasp for breath as Tobias turns and his eyebrows shoot up in surprise.
"Erudite. I saw blue and green and pink. They're here." I gasp.
Tobas's eyebrows furrow together. "Impossible. Erudite is not genius enough to open the gates that are bulletproof and impossible to open..." Suddenly his eyes have a flash of spark, and I recoil back. "Ah. I know what you mean. That's why I wanted to talk to you."
I tilt my head in confusion, still trying to make sense of all this. Blue...green...pink. Green and pink clothing are impossible to access unless they're not from here. But how? Why?
Tobias nods, seeing the confusion settle in my eyes. "I knew you were smart enough to figure something out. You know how in initiation there are instructors and trainers?"
I nod.
He exhales slowly, sitting down and putting down the gun he was holding. "My instructor's name was Amar. He was probably the best Dauntless, and had the lowest amount of fears until me."
I nod, still not seeing how any of this connected. But... "You said was," I clarify, trying to make sure I heard correctly. And he had the lowest number of fears..."he was Divergent." It was not a question.
He nods. "Suicide death. Until it was not. I discovered about two months before you arrived that he did not die, and the entire death was staged. It's easy to fake a suicide death into the Chasm. I mean, everyone's too drunk to even notice that it didn't look like him, right?" Tobias laughed bitterly. "During initiation a couple of Erudite came to inspect me and Amar through a simulation because I think something was wrong with our aptitude results or whatever. I was able to fake it. Amar was not. So he pretended to die, but the Erudite still thought something was wrong, so he left me here by myself to survive."
It dawns on me that Amar left him here in this frightening Divergent mess, with the fear of getting killed and the fear that he was going to get caught. He left Tobias without someone to hold onto through this mess, and that is awful. Even though it was awful for me to keep my Divergence a secret, at least I had Tobias and my mother to keep me alive and guide me.
Tobias bitterly smiles. "Well, because we need help, I had Evelyn contact Amar for help. I don't know how she contacted him but she did. He's here with four friends; Tamsyn, Kyra, George, and Eris. George is Tori's brother, so I'm sure there's explaining to do. I did some researching and they're all old faction members with Divergence that died of suicide. Kyra was Candor, Tamsyn was Erudite - though she doesn't act like it - Eris was Abnegation, and George and Amar are Dauntless. I thought it would be good to get some insight and have them be able to help us. With their knowledge we might be able to hack into Erudite and be able to delete all the simulation files and things."
I nod thoughtfully. That admittedly, was the most genius plan I've heard. I was ready for a change of pace.
"There's something else I need to tell you though." Tobias says warily, eying me. I cross my arms. I'm nervous judged by his expression. "We are not going to be telling the factionless the plan. Their goal is to take out the factions - based on my spies - and our society is too fragile to have us take out the factions right away. However, I do have another ultimate goal in mind, but I'm only going to tell you for now."
I smile a bit, before catching onto what he said. "Spies? You have spies and you didn't tell me?"
Tobias's smile falters a bit. "Some people have protests against the factionless ideas, so I used that to my advantage, with the promise I'll introduce them to the society again with my new plan. My genius idea is, I don't have a single fucking clue of what to do when we close the wars."
I grin. I haven't felt this alive for a while now, and it feel good to take my mind off of some of the guilt that is still riding on me. "I know what we can do." I say with a mischievous smile on my face. I whisper to him my plan, and my smile transfers to him.
"See, I knew there was a reason I liked you so much." he says, smiling. I feel myself become more self-conscious and I stare at him and suddenly warmth spreads throughout my body. He also seems to feel the nervous energy in the room, humming and buzzing. He nervously watches me and without even realizing it, I have already gotten closer to him.
He is standing and I wrap my arms around him, and I feel his hands moving up the small of my back, as he kisses me. The humming and buzzing grows louder and I gasp, and I kiss him back. It feels like nothing ever came between us, and we are two young teenagers still learning about the world.
I kiss him again, more insistently this time, and I feel his head tilt and kiss the three ravens on my collarbone. The warmth is through me, like a warm winter evening, and I don't want to leave. I want to be here, fit in to him, and we are fit together perfectly, and we are one.
I brush down my hair and tie it back again, and I don't even remember how it got untied during our make-out session.
"You know, I forgive you for Will you know." he murmurs into my ear, and I freeze. We haven't talked about him at all since the interrogation. "I know that the guilt is killing you right now, and I can see it too; I saw it in your eyes when I asked you about the chair I know you threw off the building. And it's not your fault. And...please know I'm sorry for not being there for you, and i was too blind by my anger that you lied to me. But I'm here for you now, and I promise I'll never be like that again."
I breathe in, and exhale. There's a invisible weight that is lifting off of my shoulders, that I didn't realize until now how heavy it was. It had been pressing down on me, thinking that Tobias was angry at me for killing Will. But knowing he doesn't hate me, and knowing he still loves me, gives me the support and help I didn't know I needed to lift the weight off my shoulders. And it might be the first step for me to forgive myself, but I'm glad that at least he can help me.
"Thank you." I breathe. It is small, it is simple, but it carries so much meaning behind it. And Tobias squeezes my hand, letting me know that he felt it. So then we head to the apartment the five were staying in to meet them.
I inhale. This was it. This was Tobias's ex instructor, the one who abandoned him but also kept him alive. I have mixed feeling about him, but I feel like I should at least give him a chance.
Tobias reaches up and knocks the door.
A man with dark skin and eye-drawing brown eyes opens the door. Internally I am wondering if this is George, or Amar, or Eris.
"Four! You're back." the man says, grinning. Four is rigid beside me. I assume this is Amar.
"Hello again, Amar." Tobias says icily.
Amar's smile falters a bit at Tobias's icy tone, but he looks at me and extends a hand. "I'm Amar. And what's your name...?"
"Tris. You can call me Tris. I was one of Four's initiates." I say, and I shake his hand. I hope it is not a bad one, but I can never tell. My Abnegation childhood sometimes still showed, and the way I still didn't know how to do a proper handshake was part of it.
"Tris. Hello Tris. It's extremely nice to meet you. And you're a leader now?"
"No. She's here because she's my girlfriend and she's here to make sure I don't let my emotions impact my decisions." he interrupts.
Amar nods. "Would you like to come in and meet my comrades?" he holds open the door and we enter and he closes it behind us.
Sitting on the couch was a girl with long black hair and almond shaped eyes, her hair tied up into a ponytail. In a blue top and black jeans, I assume she's the flash of blue I saw earlier. She's leaning against a man with brown hair and blond undertones, with green sneakers. He's the green I saw.
Finally, another girl with short brown hair and silver undertones had a pink jacket on, and black sneakers. She is reading with a man who looked nearly like Tori, in all black, was with her, explaining some sort of formula to her. I have never seen so much colors that are not the faction colors I am astonished.
"That's Kyra and Eris," Amar says, gesturing to the two on the couch. "And that's Tamsyn and George. Guys, this is Tris."
They all give me a nod of acknowledgement and then turn around, waiting for someone to talk.
"So...since you guys are all here to help, we should organize a meeting for them with Tori and Harrison, right?" I say, realizing that important step. "And I bet we should have Tori and George see each other first." I add, glancing at George, who is nervously twisting his fingers apart, his smile gone.
"We should probably also host a training session tomorrow." I turn towards Tobias, who is leaning against a bookcase with his arms crossed. "We can teach Kyra, Tamsyn and Eris Dauntless style fighting, and they can teach us hacking and how to use their weapons."
Amar smirks. "No wonder she's your girlfriend, Four. She's damn smart." My cheeks turn red and Tobias smirks back.
"Well, we've got introductions settled and things." he says. "I need to talk to Amar about some of the small group planning for our break in. George, you can join us."
George gets up and joins us in a corner of the room, where we lower our voices to discuss. "Me and Tris are leading a small group of Dauntless to break into Erudite and hack into their simulation data and erase it. However, while I'm probably able to hack into the data, I need someone else to be trained to be able to take their lab reports and planning documents." Tobias says.
"I can do that." the words come out before I can stop myself, even though I know by Tobias's face that it's a bad idea.
George also shakes his head. "They want you the most Tris. Their control room is also the most secure room in the compound, besides Jeanine's office. While you're great at fighting, you won't be able to stop yourself from getting rigged for simulations and testing. Didn't they shoot like 96% of Dauntless with simulation controllers? You all are rigged for simulations and they wouldn't take that risk unless they had a simulation rigged for the Divergent too."
My jaw drops. He is right. I stare at Tobias. "That means only you, Cara, Christina, and maybe the other Dauntless who are not shot can go on the mission. Uriah's also shot and rigged."
Tobias's mind is also moving fast. "We should take you then, because you're also trained in Dauntless, and according to Tori, you were good with computers." he looks at George. George nods, satisfied with his role. "We can also take Kyra, because she's ex-Erudite and she can be able to help us navigate. But we will have to make our break in group smaller."
Amar nods. "I can stay back and in case while you guys are over there and the Dauntless traitors figure out what you guys are doing and decide to retaliate or attack you guys, we will be prepared to defend."
"We should send Eris over to Amity then, to let them know. He'd be able to communicate with the alive Abnegation better." Tobias adds. Our plan is coming together perfectly.
"And then Tamsyn can stay back here to help Tris and Amar train the rest of Dauntless." George finishes.
"That's perfect. We'll meet up with Tori and Harrison tomorrow morning before a meeting with the entire Dauntless to discuss the plan. But, I think you guys shouldn't tell the entire Dauntless about the break in plan; in case you still have secret mics or security cameras we don't know about recording us." I say, turning towards Tobias.
We all nod. "Then that's settled. Me and Tris have some things to discuss, if we're done here." Tobias says, glancing at me. I'd forgotten Christina and her likely objection to be working with me. We needed to talk to her first.
We shake hands with Amar and George, before we wave at Kyra, Tamsyn, and Eris and leave. I close the door behind me and close my eyes as we turn over the corner.
When I open them again, I barely see a flash of brown before I crash, head first, into Christina before Tobias can stop me.
Whew, that chapter done! I did it in two sittings, and I'm actually pretty happy with how the plot is turning out. Let me know in the reviews if you enjoy the plot or not!
This is a bit of a early chapter hehe (yes, I know, it's only Tuesday lol, but I wanted to get this out) so I'm already starting on chapter 4. If possible, I might have chapter 4 and 5 out on sat and sun; a treat for you guys, three chapters in 1 week instead of just 2! :D
It was a bit harder for me to write the intimate moments in this story, as I'm finding, to be able to describe the intensity and like, feelings that go with the moment. If you have any suggestions for making me write better, I'd love to here them :3
If you enjoy this story, I hope you review and/or favorite and follow this story, it encourages me a lot to keep writing, knowing that there are people reading these. If you have suggestions for other Divergent fanfics you would like me to write, also leave them in the reviews or PM me, I love ideas, so if you have one, please let me know!
With that, I hope you liked this. Thank you for your support!
