4th chapter here! super excited for this one because I liked this story. For me, it's so far been a lot easier to write a Tobias POV: his intimidating character is so fun to write, with his conflicted emotions. Tris is also so fun to write: it's harder than I thought though, trying to convey her broken thoughts and emotions that still linger, and she's still recovering.

Anyways, enjoy this chapter!

Chapter 4 - Death Footage

Tobias POV

I gasp as Christina and Tris crash head on, before I can warn Tris. Christina groans and rubs her head. "Sorry...Oh. It's you." I glare at Christina but she doesn't notice me.

"If you have something to say, go on." Tris snaps. Part of me is enjoy her fire in the moment.

"Well, aside from the fact that you shot Will, I really don't have anything else to say." Christina says sarcastically. She hit Tris in the perfect spot and Tris was visibly trying to control her face from changing expressions.

"Hey." I snap at Christina, not being able to take their interaction anymore. "I guess you forgot that you were also under the simulation huh? Do you not remember the feeling of nearly shooting a person? Let me bet, you probably also shot someone while under the simulation. You don't get any right to accuse her of killing him when you also killed innocent Abnegation."

Christina glares at me. "Actually, I'm not a cold, brutal murderer, unlike her." she jerks her chin at Tris, who also glares at Christina. "I did not shoot anyone in the simulation, and if the simulation told me to, I would've woken up and stopped myself. You weren't even under the simulation and you killed him." she glares at Tris. "And you nearly killed her while you were under the simulation." she turns her fire gaze at me.

I stare back at her, frowning intimidatingly. "First of all, I wasn't even under the simulation to begin with."

"You also can't wake up from a simulation just by instinct, only Divergent can do that." Tris says, cutting in. "If you could wake up from a simulation just from instinct, did you wake up during your fear simulation? Did you manipulate stage two? I guess not huh, you would've killed someone, except I was able to stop the simulation just in time! Did you ever think about that?" Tris is all anger now. "Now, if you'll excuse us, I have better things to deal with besides your shit! Will died, yes, because of me! And don't you think the guilt overwhelms me? I saw my both of my parents die right in front of my eyes. Stop accusing me of everything, because we're in a war, and if you don't stop, we will not be able to unite together like Dauntless! And don't you remember who was your first friend, who helped you when you hung over the railing? Will was also my friend Christina, think about that. At least he didn't die right in front of you. And you're right, it's better that you didn't shoot anyone. At least you wouldn't have to live with the guilt of killing innocents. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy."

Tris side steps Christina and I follow her, giving Christina my intimidating instructor look. I think she remembers that I'm still Four, the intimidating instructor that trained her to be Dauntless, because she lowers her eyes as we pass her.

Once we are out of sight, I grin at Tris. I've never seen her so fired up, and I'm glad to see this stubborn side again, the side that won't back down, because I haven't seen it since the simulation attack; and I miss it. "That was something." I comment as we head down the hallway again.

Tris shrugs, grinning. "I guess I remembered I don't want to be depressed anymore. I want to fight, and seeing Christina and you reminding me helped that."

I nod. I originally had tried to keep Tris and Christina separated; trying to make sure if we were going one way, Christina wouldn't be there; I was afraid that Tris's guilt would overwhelm her, and she would go down the dark path she went down in Candor. But I'd forgotten about her fired up spirit, and seeing it again comforted me.

"Well, that definitely does not help for when I need to talk to her about the mission." I say, smiling. I didn't really mind though; she kinda deserved that talk down for acting like a bitch. She needed to grow up and realize this war was bigger than all of us. She didn't sacrifice as much as Tris has; Tris lost two of her friends and her parents, and her ex faction within the span of two months.

Tris just grins and skips ahead. "What are we going to do now?" she asks. That thought hasn't occurred in my head yet.

"You should go find Uriah and Marlene or some of your friends." I suggest. "I have a difficult conversation with Tori ahead of me." I add, wincing at the thought of introducing Tori to her supposedly dead brother.

Tris winces as well for my sake. "Well, that sounds fun for you." she teases. "I need to go ask Uriah something anyway. Divergence." she adds when she sees my questioning face. "I'll see you at dinner, okay?"

I nod. "I'll see you then." I give her a kiss before turning and heading to Tori's tattoo parlor, where she'll surely be.

Tori doesn't look up when I enter the room. "I'll be there in a few seconds-" she looks up. "Oh. Four. I haven't seen you in a long time. I assume you're not here for a tattoo?" she smirks at me. Considering I already had six different tattoos, on my back of all the faction symbols, and fire over my ribs, etc, I was definitely not here for a tattoo. I smirk back at her.

"Nope, but I do need to talk to you." I say.

Tori nods, with no more questions. "I'll meet you in the back room in five."

I nod at her, just realizing I didn't have a way to break the news to her. I head back to the back room, where different designs for tattoos cover the walls; there's so many and I admire all of them, but I immediately detect Tori's footsteps into the room and tense up.

"What's up, Tobias?" Tori says, and winces when my Four mask returns and I turn around. "Sorry. I forgot you don't like that name. How are you, Four?"

I mutter under my breath, "Clearly," before speaking up. "I'm fine. Pretty good. I have some news for you, and it's the kind where you need to sit down."

Tori's face immediately tenses up and she lowers herself into the armchair across from me. She seems to sense the tension in my tone. "What's going on? Is it Erudite?" she inquires.

"No, it's not that." I say, searching for a way to break my news to her. "Tori, remember that you had a brother named George?" I say cautiously.

Tori immediately freezes. "What? What did you find?" she whispers. I've never seen this side of Tori. Her walls are collapsing and her eyes are made of steel, staring intently into my soul. I shift uncomfortably.

"Promise me you won't freak out, okay?" I say. Tori nods, searching my expression for a giveaway. "He's alive, and he's in the compound right now."

She sinks to her chair, mumbling to herself. I search her face, worried. "How?" she whispers, and looks up at me. I have never seen this side of Tori; we are similar, and we are different. We both are fueled by our pain and past to keep on going, and have walls up. I just didn't realize until now, as I witness her steel walls crumbling. "I saw the footage. I saw him jump on the camera and I was there for his funeral. He isn't alive, Four." she covers her face with her hands.

"He's alive, and he's here." I say softly, a little bit confused about the camera footage comment, but I made a mental note to check it out later. "His death was faked. He had to escape because they were going to kill him. If you want to go see him, I can bring you to him if you'd like."

"There's no need." says a voice softly from the doorway, and I don't even need to look to recognize George.

"George David Wu." Tori mumbles under her breath and her gaze slowly shifts and locks eyes with George. The tension in the room is vivid, waiting to explode. I hold my breath.

"I'm so sorry I left you." George approaches cautiously, Tori still frozen to her seat. It was probably a good idea to have her sit down. "I was dumb to do that to you."

"You made me think you were dead." Tori whispers quietly. "You left me here, and I spent all these years tossing my rage around. It has turned me into a awful person. You have no idea."

The words echo my words to Amar earlier, and I wince, and so does George.

"I didn't fake my death." George says sternly. "I didn't consider doing that for a second. I left you a note, and I left. I went with Amar. We'd been planning it for weeks. I would never hurt you like that." George's gaze turns to me. "Amar left you a note too. Did you not receive it?"

Me and Tori exchange looks. This was the first time either of us had heard anything about a note. "What note?" I say icily. "We never received anything. Both times you 'died' there was a body in the chasm and they zipped it up in a body bag."

George stares at both of us. Confusion is evidently written on his face. "Someone tampered with our escapes and planted us as dead. I swear, we never wanted to inflict that kind of pain on anyone."

Me and Tori glance at each other for a moment, reading each others minds. "We need to check out the security footage." We say in unison.

In the control room I tap in a series of different number and touches; because we had covered all security cameras with paintballs, there was no reason for the control room anymore. So no one was in there when we entered and locked the door. Near the door, Tori and George are talking rapidly at speeds I couldn't understand. I think Tori was trying to forgive her brother.

"What night did you leave?" I ask, without looking up, my eyes glued to the screen.

"August fourth." One of them says. I can't tell who. They sound so similar and act so similar it's pointless in trying to guess.

I tapped the screen several times and pull up the footage on one of the screens. "Amar left on July fifteenth." I mutter underneath my breath. "Nearly a year after George."

I tap away at the keys, my fingers rapidly trying to keep up with the code. I slip in a chip to download the data and then I press play on George's camera first.

As Tori had said earlier, a figure around three am entered the camera but quickly disappeared. On a different camera it shows a similar figure entering and looking around before staring directly up at the camera and disappearing off sight. This repeatedly several times throughout the footage, before finally a footage near the chasm showed two figures rapidly whispering on the edge of the camera. Suddenly one moved and jumped off, into the dark depths of the chasm. I close the tab.

"I don't remember seeing the other footages. I only remember the person jumping off the edge into the chasm." Tori whispers.

I smirk, still my back facing them. "That's because all the other footages were in a leader folder. I had to hack into it to access it."

Tori furrows her eyebrow in the reflection of the screen. "It's still only one guy though." she says. I'm surprised she didn't spot the other guy talking in the tape.

"No. Look." I rewind the video and pause it before pointing at the screen. "In the chasm tape, there are two figures. They are talking before one of them jumps off."

I finally turn around. George is confused. "So, basically that was a whole lot of nothing. They were either trying to make it look like I committed suicide or there was something else going on."

"I don't like this." I mumble. "It's unsettling that two figures were at the chasm at a time that wasn't allowed, and the other one certainly was killed after jumping. The person in the camera clearly knew about the cameras; it seemed like they were purposely trying to avoid them. Also, how come no one bothered to check on the security footage until now? George supposedly died three years ago, and Amar supposedly died two years ago. How come your 'death' footage is in a locked and private leader folder?"

We all stare at each other, none of us having a answer to that question. That was the most unsettling part; why was it hidden?

My mind is turning and I shake my head. "We should watch the camera for Amar on his death." I say, turning around.

I pull up the footage from that night, and I had to hack into the leaders folder for it as well. Why were death tapes in leader folders?

I press play and we huddle closer to watch it. It starts out similarly. Unidentifiable figure, dark clothed, traveling throughout the Pit and Pire, sticking so close to the shadows I can barely make it out. Several times the main figure approaches people, also closely sticking to the shadows. Finally it reaches the chasm with someone and they jump in together. Plunging into the icy depths of their deaths. I wonder who would be insane enough to do it before remembering Tris was incredibly close to doing it. I will never allow that to happen again.

I tear a hand through my hair. "That's absolutely lovely." I grumble. I take three calming breaths before turning to face them again. "Well?"

Tori shakes her head slowly. "This is interesting. Both Amar and George's deaths are faked. Someone is behind this. Also, is it just me, or was one of the figures in blue?"

"Rewind it." George says but I'm already on it. This time I slow the tape down and suddenly Tori jerks at the camera. "There!" Me and George look closely at it. A flash of blue. Erudite blue. I growl under my breath.

"Somehow, this is connected to all of this." I mutter, awake now. I needed to show this to Tris and Harrison later. Maybe they would have a idea. Harrison needed to know because he's a leader; but Tris might be able to figure something out from her smart brain.

George nods. "That's a good idea. Tris is pretty smart; she might also spot something from the tape. After all, she did come up with the genius plan of attack for Erudite."

"What plan?" Tori asks, interrupting him. He glances at me and I nod. "You can tell her," I say. "She's one of the leaders for Dauntless now."

I see a hint of pride in George's eyes as he explains the plan entirely. Amar and Kyra and Tamsyn and Erin arriving, me greeting them, the plan they created, how they were going to reveal themselves to the entire Dauntless, and the attack group of people who aren't rigged for simulations.

I tune out someway through but the next thing I hear is Tori saying, "Do you want to reveal it tomorrow morning?"

I join in on the conversation. "That's a good idea. You, me, and Harrison can announce it and we can immediately start the attack training. We also need a list of all active Dauntless members in the compound who are Divergent."

Tori nods. "I can do that. I know everyone from working in the tattoo parlor anyway."

George grins. It seems that the two have made up. I turn away, my Four mask still on. "We need to leave now. We've been in here for far to long, and I need to talk to some people."

They both nod at me and we leave, me secretly stealing the chip with the security footage when they weren't looking. I lock the control room door behind me and we exit this part of the compound.

We needed all the information we could get right now. And I had a feeling, a deep feeling, that the deaths were connected to our war right now. I couldn't shake off the tenseness as much as I wanted to. There was some reason why the files were hidden in a classified leader folder, and the flash of blue Tori had caught. But why would something from three years ago be connected to the current war raging? Something was up. The fact Candor and Erudite haven't done anything yet was unsettling. And we had just discovered a major piece in the puzzle. We just didn't know where it belonged.
