Tom opened his eyes.
He found himself in his orange wetsuit, flippers and helmet, atop a yellow life raft in the middle of the ocean.
He looked around, there seemed to be wreckage for miles.
"—DAD?!!!" He called, but there was no answer. "DAAAAA-AAAAD!!" He called yet again. "HEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!!" He called once more, but still no one seemed to answer.
He scanned the horizon. A lot of bodies floated up to the surface along with flotsam and jetsam. Suddenly, he appeared to notice that one of the bodies was moving!
"HEY YOU!!" The survivor shouted. "HELP ME! OVER HERE!"
"HEY!" Tom shouted. He looked to the side of the raft and grabbed an oar from one of the lifeboats. Quickly he started to paddle over towards the survivor. "HEY I'M COMING!!"
The survivor in question was a young boy about Tom's age. He was blonde and shorter than Tom, and rather chubby, with freckles dotting his round cheeks. He also wore the same orange wetsuit, helmet and flippers as Tom.
"THANK YOU!" The boy exclaimed, extending his hands to Tom. "I dunno what happened, one minute I was on the ship and then BOOOM!" The boy exclaimed, mimicking the explosion and nearly tipping the raft over with his weight.
"Woah big guy it's alright, I've got ya…" Tom pulled until the other boy was in the life raft.
"Thanks so much, man!" The chubby boy spoke, panting and vomiting up some seawater and stomach acid. "EuGH, it got in my helmet…" he removed his helmet and rinsed out the vomit.
"Hey, do I know you? From, uh, Scuba 101?" Tom snapped his fingers. "C-Clancy, right?"
"Yeah, Clancy Tubman." The blonde boy screwed his helmet back on. "But I think Clancy's a stupid name, so you can call me 'Tubb'."
"Well okay then, Tubb, my name is Tom." Tom introduced himself…and tried not to snicker.
Suddenly, in the distance, both kids spied something small with brown fur. This was a friendly little seal that had been given to Tom's father as a gift from the Navy. He was trained to locate and defuse underwater explosives, as well as defend the SS. Barbera from any enemy forces.
"—SCOOBY!" Tom shouted, whistling for the seal to come closer. "YOU'RE ALIVE! C'MERE, BOY!"
"ORT! ORT! ORT!" Scooby barked, noticing Tom and swimming towards the raft.
"Good boy, Scooby!" Tom smiled, rubbing the seal on the stomach as one would with a regular dog.
After rubbing the seal's belly, Tom gazed out at the open ocean and cloudy skies alongside Tubb. There the boys felt extremely small amidst the vastness of the sea as the waves pushed them along to who knows where.
"…So, this is it, huh?" Tom spoke once Scooby was in the raft. "It's just us and the seal."
"Yeah, think everyone else is dead." Tubb replied. "There's no radio signals for the coast guard. This is our new life now."
The boys silently looked at each other before smiling.
"SWEET!!" Both of them exclaimed in unison, high-fiving one-another.
"Yeah, to be honest, I think civilization was kinda overrated anyway." Tom replied, smiling.
"Me, too." Tubb replied.
